We chose Takumi to celebrate my daughter's 21st birthday, & it turned out to be the perfect place for such a special occasion. The ambiance was live. We were seated right away. Our hibachi chef, Nendo, was hilarious & kept the entire table entertained with nonstop tricks, jokes, & incredible skills on the grill. Our waitress, Yeetea, was wonderful, attentive, friendly, & made sure we had everything we needed throughout the evening. We started with a variety of appetizers, including sushi, rolls & the Bang Bang shrimp, which were delicious. The hibachi portions were huge, so generous that we all ended up taking leftovers home. I also tried the Volcano cocktail made with 6 different rums. It was refreshing, smooth, & definitely packs a punch, so be sure to drink plenty of water! To top it all off, the staff surprised my daughter with a birthday celebration with a drum performance, a birthday sign, a cupcake with a candle, & everyone singing "Happy Birthday." Could've been better. We arrived at opening on a Sunday so we were the first ones seated. We've eaten here many times in the past, especially for lunch.. just not with our kids (2 & 4). The server took our order & the drinks came a few minutes later. It was a 40-50 minutes until the chef arrived. Apparently they wanted to wait to see if someone else came in. There was a family of 6 that chose to sit elsewhere, so that "policy" is weird. We requested to pay for our drinks & leave but the server informed us the chef was almost done prepping. When he did finally come out, it was a good show. Even the kids enjoyed it. Our food was delicious: 2 hibachi chicken & shrimp with rice, kids meal hibachi chicken with noodles. Their cocktails were sweet but strong. The staff & environment is chill & kid friendly (booster & high chair available). Always clean. Came in with a party of 6 and were told it would be a 20 min wait for the hibachi to open. We were offered menu dining instead, so we agreed and were then told it would be a 15-20 wait. The restaurant was empty. 5 min before hibachi opened, they seated a couple who walked in asking for it. I will never visit this restaurant again. My review is based SOLELY upon customer service. Overall: 1.75/5 Got the Gyoza, California, and Shrimp Tempura. The Gyoza was the best thing on the list, tasting the most familiar with a slight difference. When it comes down to it, I usually prefer the Shrimp Tempura roll to California, but in this case it was the opposite. The California roll, though I usually despise cucumber, made the meal better. When it came down to the Shrimp Tempura roll, the breading on the shrimp wasn't as tasty as other establishments I've been to. Then, I wasn't use to cucumber being in the roll so it tasted even more off to me. The sauce on it wasn't my favorite either. Usually, there is eel sauce but that was definitely not eel. read more

Craving sushi! We decided to try out Takumi on a Saturday late afternoon - yum!! We sat at the bar as the lunch crowd dwindled down. We started out with the tuna tataki which was delightful! We both have a great love for fried soft shell crab so ordering the golden spider was a no-brainer! We loved it so much we ordered two!!! The bartender was great - attentive (even stepped out to take a lunch break as she was working a double) and ensured that we would be waited on by another staff member until she returned. They never skipped a beat! We ended up ordering two rolls and some fried rice once hibachi opened and they were amazing! We will certainly be back! There is plenty of seating in both the bar area and restaurant. Definitely a good place to grab a quick bite if craving Japanese. read more

Nice place to eat if you don't feel like eating. 9 out of 12 people showed up at the restaurant and we're told we couldn't be seated because the whole party wasn't there. 10 minutes later, when the rest of the party arrived, we were told it would be 25 minutes to be seated. 40 minutes later a second party walked in (about 16 people) and where seated immediately. When I spoke to the manager, I was told they had a reservation. While I didn't ask what time their reservation was for, I'm sure it was not in the last 45 minutes. While waiting a third party of 5 was shown to a table. We were finally taken to a table, seated right next to the party of 5 that had walked in. After about 15 min or so, orders were taken. Fifteen or twenty minutes after that, I sat and watched while half of my party was served food, while the rest of us sat there and watched them eat. When I complained to the manager about the wisdom of making the whole party show up before we were seated if she had no intention of feeding everyone, I apparently was annoying her because her short answer was " That's company policy" and went back to reading her pad. I was in the restaurant 2 hours, never saw a cook, and had to leave my family in order to find something to eat elsewhere. Not the worst service I've ever had in a restaurant but it was definitely in the bottom 3 and without a doubt the worst hibachi I've never had in my life. read more

We went for lunch yesterday. We sat at the hibachi table. Chef was funny & the food was fantastic. We had the filet mignon and the other one had a chicken. Another one of us had the shrimp and one had a sirloin steak that everything was cooked to perfection. Service is a little shaky, however the hibachi lunch special here seems unbeatable. While I was in town, I along with a few others came here for lunch before they stopped serving for lunch at 2. The hibachi lunch special comes with your one choice of meat and either a soup or salad. If you want to turn your meat choice into a combo then you pay for the extra side of meat. The average was about $12 for the hibachi shrimp meal without adding the extra side of meat. They also have two sushi rolls for $16 during lunch as well. Disappointing Experience! It's truly disheartening to have a negative experience, especially on a special occasion like a birthday. My husband and I recently took my mother-in-law to Takumi for her birthday while visiting from Houston, but unfortunately, our experience fell short of our expectations. From the moment we arrived, we encountered a rude host and unprofessional servers. Policies regarding outside food were not clearly communicated to us. Which would not of been an issues we would have happily paid the $10 if it would have been properly communicated to us when first entering. We were unaware that our son's happy meal, which we had purchased beforehand, was not allowed. The hostess who seated us was unaccommodating, insisting my mother-in-law could only sit in a specific spot, despite the fact that the restaurant was mostly empty. It's disappointing when such situations aren't handled with care, especially for a milestone birthday celebration. In my years of working in hospitality, I've learned that accommodating guests is crucial, and that was unfortunately lacking here. Living in Houston, I've had the pleasure of dining at many high end and nicer establishments than are offered here where customers are treated with consideration, making this experience all the more surprising. Additionally, we were informed that we would be charged $10 for the happy meal, which only cost $6. Which again would not of been an issue frustrating yes! but not an issues if explained prior to sitting us especially since we were not made aware of this policy prior to being seated. To our dismay, another server laughed and remarked, "There goes three waters," as they walked away, which struck us as dismissive, rude and unprofessional, particularly since we hadn't even placed an order yet. I can only assume due to us dressed as if coming from church. Which working in hospitality I know the comments made towards church people and how they only order water and tip poorly. Working in hospitality I always tip $15-$20 if not more when needed because I know a servers income depends on good tips The manager, Lisa, did not help to alleviate the situation, as her demeanor was also unwelcoming. Overall, the staff seemed to lack basic customer service skills, leading to an unsatisfactory dining experience. I can not and will not recommend Takumi for families dining with children, given these staffing issues and the negative atmosphere. There are many other restaurants that prioritize customer service and create a much more enjoyable dining! If I could leave less than one star I most certainly would. read more
