Because it was my first time visiting Walker, Louisiana, I shopped on Yelp for restaurants near the place where I was to meet later that night, and when I stumbled upon this Chinese/Asian spot, I had a strong feeling, based on the highly positive reviews, that I was in for a treat there. BTW, I fully enjoy Yelp's feature that enables a person to view restaurants/other businesses near a given location before the user is in that location. But, back to the grub! You know that feeling you get when you walk into a place as if you've entered your home away from home for dinner? I rarely have that experience, but both times that I've been here, I was moved by those emotions. This place simply has quite a welcoming atmosphere. Further, I think many patrons experience these feelings as the place was packed well after the lunch hour this past Sunday afternoon. In addition to the ambiance, the buffet is stocked with a bevy of selections, and I found the dishes I heaped on my plates to be hot, fresh, and delicious. The egg rolls had a crispy, light batter with flavorful veggies inside. Unfortunately, I cannot remember all the names of the chicken dishes I enjoyed, but the sesame seed chicken, the black pepper chicken, and the honey chicken dishes definitely stood out to me. Further, I found the wontons to be a hit with a slightly crispy outer shell with a balanced mix of cheese and onions on the inside. I also found the Chinese donuts (small biscuits, sprinkled with sugar) to melt in my mouth as they were not excessively doughy and didn't taste like they'd been sitting around for a couple days before hitting my plate. The mushroom and pepper steak dishes were also very good. Before leaving, I was also blessed to find and enjoy tasty vanilla ice cream bars with chocolate coating. Yummy! In addition to the delectable eats, I was pleased and appreciative of the genuine friendliness and attentiveness of the wait staff. From my arrival to my departure, the employees seemed to be truly happy to serve me and my party. Moreover, my server was punctual in both taking my drink order and in keeping it topped off. Though I find most servers/workers of Asian restaurants to be friendlier than at other American restaurants, the attitude of the staff at Foo Chow seems to be a cut above the norm. Finally, though this restaurant was packed during both my visits, amazingly, the noise is not oppressively loud. Woohoo! Though the restaurant sits a few miles outside the main BR area, its wide selection of grub, tasty dishes, affordable cost, and happy ambiance makes Foo Chow a great first try for American Chinese food lovers. read more

I visited at noon on a Wednesday. Service was ok for a quick lunch. Staff was polite. What you want to drink, etc. and it arrived quickly. Not too many visits after we were seated. I didn't get my tea refilled after the first glass. I tried a variety of the Asian selection, pretty bland, coconut shrimp, sweet and sour shrimp, teriyaki chicken, beef and broccoli, etc. I likely won't visit again soon. The "American" cuisine section I did not try. The sushi was below par, even for a buffet style Asian restaurant. There were few items available and the ones I chose were falling apart as I attempted to move them from the serving area to my plate. All in all, a 3/5 choice if you are in a hurry and want to grab some items from a buffet with no wait and get back to your day. They've added some new decor and have this really cool cotton candy machine now. Not sure the price though. We went for crab legs and they wasn't as seasoned as usual which was ok because you know we should be watching out sodium intake The sushi looked good so I grabbed a few pieces, they wasn't kept chilled and I'm pretty sure that's why I got sick, so thanks because that's always fun! I ended up just sitting there watching him eat which was fine, he got his fill. They actually ran out of plates at one point. Busy night! Cold food during peak dinner time, ok service but the lady up front had her child (in the 5ish range) running to get to go peoples drinks. The server stood over us while my fiance was signing the tip and total, pointing where to put the tip and saying "sign here, tip goes here" until my fiance wrote something there. They really need to train better manners and rotate the food. read more

Maybe I am tired or maybe I am just being critical but just not going to give a Chinese buffet 5 stars --just not feeling it. But I will give this establishment 4 stars because what they advertise is what they provide--a large buffet, with seafood. Hibachi (I think) , sushi and other stuff, for a reasonable price. That said, not everything on the buffet is great and there's a lot of offerings which are downright average---but that's why there choice and selection--you get something you like and then stick with it. With that attitude, I am more than satisfied with this establishment and will return when I want this type offering. Overall, place is clean and service is acceptable. This has to be one of the cleanest and best Chinese buffet restaurants in the area. Food is always fresh and hot and actually has great flavor. You are always greeted with a smiling and welcoming face and graciously acknowledged when you leave. read more

This place has all the precautions in place to ensure customer safety from the spreading of Covid-19. Besides the mandatory mask requirement, upon entry, you stand in from of a scanner that checks your temperature. When going to the buffet, you must wear gloves that are provided to serve yourself food. The one thing I didn't care for were the use of styrofoam plates and plastic utensils. I enjoyed the chicken items on the buffet, while other things I didn't care for. My wife went there for the hibachi grill, neither one of us knowing that the grill won't open while under phase 2 for restaurants. She did say the dessert bar was good. Once the hibachi grill is reopened, I'm sure we will return. read more

We used to go here several times a year to feast on snow crabs, but they got rid of them due to high prices. We just came back from Miami and they had a place called POC that had a similar buffet, with snow crabs, and charged $35.99 a head and there was a line out the door. I sure do wish Foo Chow would consider bringing them back! With snow crabs, it was worth the drive, and a 5* meal experience. Without them, it's not. read more

Yikes. I hate to leave a poor review but... Can I give y'all some advice from a Cajun who grew up eating seafood? 1. Learn to "purge" the crawfish before boiling. 2. Only boil seafood for the recommended time. Seven minutes for crawfish. If you leave seafood in hot water for too long, the meat gets mushy. 3. Use spices when boiling. Here visiting family and came mid day.. which can be scary for a Chinese buffet.. it was excellent! Kevin was our server.. he was great! Our favorites were sesame chicken, foo chow egg roll ( like a crab cake in a egg roll wrapper!) sweet and sour chicken.. the breading is delicious! Noodles were so good! Must try the Warm flan cake. We have went twice in a row. We wish Chinese restaurants near us was even close to the deliciousness of this one!!everything was hot .. oh and the deep fried white fish was so good. update: They have changed a little from last year. They do not have snow crabs anymore on the buffet. This was the perfect place to go for all your seafood but now, no snow crabs. They said the price went up on snow crabs. Maybe if they charged like 17.00 a person maybe and still include them on buffet? I love this place. The crawfish during crawfish season is real, unfrozen crawfish, not the chinese crawfish. The oysters are fresh and clean, not sandy like the other place on Bluebonnet. The last time I ate here was the last time I will eat here. When it first opened, the food was hot and fresh. However, over time, it seems that the food quality has decreased to the point that it has become less than desirable for me. Some items seemed to be leftover from perhaps the day or meal before. One of the BEST places to eat in Walker! If you want sushi they have it, seafood yup it's there, Chinese food all there, habatchi bar gather up what you want n they cook it up for you. Avid buffet goer here! So my family and I went on an Saturday night for the snow crabs. It's about $22 per adult plus extra for beverage. Sushi variety is extremely limited, all the rolls basically have some sort of variation of imitation crab. There's also tuna and salmon sashimi. Please don't try the gumbo. There's imitation crab in it and it tastes like it came from a box mix, there's also shrimp in there that turns to mush once it hits your tongue. The ribs are boiled first then slathered in bbq sauce and they taste like watered down bbq. There's not that many food choices overall compared to buffets in BR and Central and whatnot. So here's the overall impression: great place for boiled blue crabs, crawfish (shockingly pretty good and I usually hate crawfish from buffets), shrimp, and snow crab legs. I am not exaggerating this is the best Chinese restaurant I have ever been to! Chinese food is my favorite. I normally eat Chinese a few times a month. We recently moved to the area and decided to try this place out. This was a Wednesday around lunchtime. Every single thing on their buffet was hot and fresh. If you go you have to try their eggrolls, they're so crispy. If you like ice cream you're in luck! They have three coolers full of individually wrapped ice cream cups and bars. The service was nice, nothing over-the-top. For two lunch buffets and two soft drinks it was $20. The dinner menu is a little bit more expensive and dinner on the weekends is even more expensive due to the fact that they have a lot of boiled seafood on the menu. read more
