The food was amazing. The cups and plates are plastic which is a little underwhelming, but for $11 and good food - I'll take it.

I would eat here more but the steak tastes like some weird spongey fat substance. It's gross! Chicken and shrimp are ok.

Enjoyments * Many fresh, hot buffet dishes…read more* Excellent egg rolls, wontons, honey chicken, black pepper chicken, pot stickers, Chinese donuts * Friendly atmosphere and attentive, gracious wait staff * Good ice cream bars for dessert * Full restaurant with only moderate noise * Great price Improvements * None that I have experienced Go YELP! Because it was my first time visiting Walker, Louisiana, I shopped on Yelp for restaurants near the place where I was to meet later that night, and when I stumbled upon this Chinese/Asian spot, I had a strong feeling, based on the highly positive reviews, that I was in for a treat there. BTW, I fully enjoy Yelp's feature that enables a person to view restaurants/other businesses near a given location before the user is in that location. But, back to the grub! You know that feeling you get when you walk into a place as if you've entered your home away from home for dinner? I rarely have that experience, but both times that I've been here, I was moved by those emotions. This place simply has quite a welcoming atmosphere. Further, I think many patrons experience these feelings as the place was packed well after the lunch hour this past Sunday afternoon. In addition to the ambiance, the buffet is stocked with a bevy of selections, and I found the dishes I heaped on my plates to be hot, fresh, and delicious. The egg rolls had a crispy, light batter with flavorful veggies inside. Unfortunately, I cannot remember all the names of the chicken dishes I enjoyed, but the sesame seed chicken, the black pepper chicken, and the honey chicken dishes definitely stood out to me. Further, I found the wontons to be a hit with a slightly crispy outer shell with a balanced mix of cheese and onions on the inside. I also found the Chinese donuts (small biscuits, sprinkled with sugar) to melt in my mouth as they were not excessively doughy and didn't taste like they'd been sitting around for a couple days before hitting my plate. The mushroom and pepper steak dishes were also very good. Before leaving, I was also blessed to find and enjoy tasty vanilla ice cream bars with chocolate coating. Yummy! In addition to the delectable eats, I was pleased and appreciative of the genuine friendliness and attentiveness of the wait staff. From my arrival to my departure, the employees seemed to be truly happy to serve me and my party. Moreover, my server was punctual in both taking my drink order and in keeping it topped off. Though I find most servers/workers of Asian restaurants to be friendlier than at other American restaurants, the attitude of the staff at Foo Chow seems to be a cut above the norm. Finally, though this restaurant was packed during both my visits, amazingly, the noise is not oppressively loud. Woohoo! Though the restaurant sits a few miles outside the main BR area, its wide selection of grub, tasty dishes, affordable cost, and happy ambiance makes Foo Chow a great first try for American Chinese food lovers.

I was so hungry because I waited a little too long to order (even though it got to us in 30 minutes which is pretty impressive for a Saturday night!) so I forgot to take pictures when the food arrived. I did take some of my leftovers the next day, though! We ordered the Mongolian beef and broccoli combo, honey chicken combo, 4 seasons combo, and crab Rangoons. We all had leftovers for the next day and I have enough for a third meal!!! I love that the broccoli was cooked, but not mushy! The shrimp in the 4 seasons were so big! The shrimp in the picture were from the shrimp fried rice, not as big as the 4 seasons but still a great size and lots of them! Each combo plate comes with your choice of rice or lo mien and an egg roll, too! The combos are around $11.25-$14.99. They have wings, noodles, and soups, too. The crab Rangoons are just $5.45 for 8!!! Now, I'm a bit of a Rangoon snob so they were ok, a little chewy and the filling was sweet with no other flavors really. But, they were good enough to eat lol. All the other food had great, rich flavors. Definitely gonna order, again!

The inside was clean, spacious, and wasn't busy, which was nice bec we weren't fighting swarms of people like at a typical buffet. I tried a little sample of just about everything. I loved how the food was hot and I'd say the chicken dishes were my favorite. I was pleased with the price, it was a little over $30 for 2 adults, which I felt was good for an AYCE buffet on the weekend. Overall, I'd recommend Hunan if you're in the mood for a fair priced delicious AYCE Chinese buffet!

** UPDATE ** 3/13/26 Guess management read my prior review…read more Came again for lunch today and they had a young man making the sushi fresh. Although limited selection, 2 offered rolls incorporated tempura shrimp, and since I only eat cooked sushi - I was thrilled. Hunan still has great fried wonton, dumplings and the BEST spicy pork dish on any buffet in town. Today I also tried their steam fish entree which was offered in a very light (soy/mirrin?) sauce - sooo tasty, and I don't even like fish much but keep trying to incorporate into my meals for light protein. When I asked the workers there what type of fish it was because it did not taste fishy at all, he said catfish which I was frankly shocked. I usually don't like fish because it's so FISHY tasting, but the way that they steamed it in there light Asian sauce really made it flaky and delicious without a strong fishy taste. Although this buffet is by far one of the smallest in the Sherwood / Broadmoor areas, if you haven't tried it yet I definitely recommend you do so. Especially if you can come going to buffet is fresh when they open at 11:00 a.m.
