Sorry folks, but when you go into a restaurant at 12:30 PM, on a Friday, it should be busy. Should have known to walk out when all tables were empty. The menu had about 7 or eight sandwiches on it. However they were "out" of 50% of them. Ordered Turkey Melt. My side choices were potato chips or homemade potato salad. Ordered the salad. When brought to us, told us they were out of the salad... but I could choose a bag of chips... ok. Not a great start. Sandwich was dry and flavorless. Bit into it and damn near broke a tooth! The crust on the bottom of the sandwich was completely black. Burnt to a crisp. Oh, had a latte as well.... The worst one I've ever had. No joke. The place was filthy. The Borrowed Kitchen Bakery in my neighborhood has come a very long way since their early days a few years ago. I went there today with a friend and I was more than pleasantly surprised at the extensive breakfast menu. I was also very pleased with how the food was presented and tasted. The quality was surprisingly very high. My friend got pancakes, bacon, and eggs. I ended up with the huevos rancheros. Honestly, my only complaint was there was not enough salsa or tortillas for the amount of food I got. I actually had to ask for more salsa. What a gem of a place. I highly recommend that you stop by and have a full breakfast. Yes, they have plenty of breakfast sweets like cinnamon rolls and other things but the actual meals are hearty and tasty. read more

My cookie was good. But the breakfast sandwich was inedible. I took one bite and spit it out. The biscuit was soggy and stale at the same time. It has probably been sitting for a few hours. And, they advertise lunch. That means 'get a pre-made sandwich from the fridge'. No. I can do that at a gas station. The iced tea was nearly flavorless. It's really hard to ruin iced tea. What I Got: Frozen Dinners [Chicken Pesto, Stroganoff] I really need to actually eat their baked goods someday, but I'm a huge fan of their frozen meals. The stroganoff is my favorite! Super flavorful, nothing comes out chewy or bland at all. Yum! read more

i love that kingston now has a proper bakery & lots of variety within it. there's something for everyone in this place. the last few times i've been in there have been kind of disappointing..... not with the baked items but with the service. there seem to be plenty of employees but even when there were only a few people ahead of me.....the wait was unbearable and not even acknowledgement that s/o was in the least interested in taking my order. and, when they did, sadly, without much enthusiasm. i'm not expecting a red carpet but maybe a 'hey, i'll be with you in a minute.' even some eye contact with a smile would be awesome. service is a huge part of why i go out & support businesses. my enthusiasm is waning in support of the lack of enthusiasm from some of the employees, unfortunately. a genuine smile goes a long way. read more

Had a lot of potential but misses the mark. There was no prices on any of the baked goods and they had very little left by the time I got there at 2:00pm on a Saturday. We ordered a iced vanilla latte (not good) and a Lotus and two raspberry shortbread cookies. The girl behind the counter only gave us one cookie and then made our drinks. I mentioned after paying she missed one cookie and she said she had only charged for 1... in an effort to get out of there I said forget the other cookie. After my bf drank some of his lotus the girl tells him "oh you need to stir it cause the syrup is on the bottom. It was WAY over syruped. The cookie was really good but I had to ask (after I paid for it) how much it was. $2! That's a lot for 4 bits of a cookie. The over all attitude of both the girls working there was lackadaisical. No smile, no thank you, no care. There were also a ton of flies flying around inside that made me think twice about eating there. I discovered today that I was overcharged in my card as well. "Disappointed on 4th visit" As witnessed in my last review, I have loved Borrowed Kitchens chops! But today was not good. Arrived at 9:15 anticipating another great breakfast. One couple and one elderly single ahead of us waiting for a table, while plenty of seats are available to place everybody in line, including a communal table. When we asked if we could sit at the communal table or do we put need to put our name in we were told to please wait as we did for 5 to 10 more minutes before we asked again. We were told that they're not seating people so that they can help pace the kitchen. How does customer service work in a fashion that customers are told to stand in line while there are empty seats and tables? You can simply say that tables are ready, but please be prepared to wait X period. CLUNK. read more

I had the eggs Benedict. Very good, would highly recommend, but the restaurant needs sharper knives. My knife just kind of crushed things rather than cutting. But the very careful wait staff replaced my super dull butter knife with a kitchen pairing knife and I was right the fault wasn't tough English muffins, it was the knife. Things don't have to be perfect, true excellence is seen how you handle problems. I'll be back next time I'm in Kingston. read more

Amazing food! We had the Cinnamon Roll French Toast and it was wonderful. The CRISPY(!) bacon it came with made for the best combo bites! It also came with a little mixed green salad with oranges. I don't know what was going on with the oranges but they were the best! And they made for amazing fresh orange juice too. The Breakfast Sammy with ham was big and made with a homemade biscuit. We commute via the ferry and literally drive by here every day (for the last year). We finally went in last weekend and we have been missing out!! I got the eggs bene and a mimosa and my husband got the gravy bowl and a Bloody Mary . Everything was phenomenal! It was all homemade and very fresh! We plan to come once a week now. read more

This is my parents favorite restaurant in Kingston. It started as a small bakery, then started serving food, and these days the restaurant business has really taken over. They specialize in breakfast. You can get omelettes or eggs Benedict or biscuits and gravy, Or you can go back to the glass counter and choose from the bakery items such as ham and cheese croissants or chocolate cake. Do not dismiss the possibility of chocolate cake for breakfast, at four dollars, it's not expensive, the sizes are huge, and very chocolatey. I just want to give a shout out to the wonderful people that run this restaurant (husband and wife Lacey & Kory Anders) I don't know them at all, but read on ....This is during the virus shut downs....they have become frozen food sellers. These frozen food entrees and all the other things they make (it is also a bakery) have been SO GOOD! It is awesome to go down to this place in Kingston and grab a couple of frozen meals that means that we don't have to cook EVERY night. So far I have had the enchiladas and the Vegi Lasagna....Both have been excellent. Support local businesses! read more

Nice space and location but our breakfast sandwiches were really bad. I couldn't finish eating it if I'm honest. And I'm not usually picky-- but the biscuits were old tasting, fake bacon and egg/cheese. The coffees were okay. Not great. Not terrible- just okay. Maybe we hit an off day but they weren't busy AT ALL. So you'd think they would take the time to do a good job. Also not very friendly staff. No one really said hi to us or anything. A wonderful find... just stumbled upon it while driving to the ferry... The staff were lovely and very engaging! I purchased a lovely peanut butter bar and had a bite or two of that while traveling home. For my little guy, I got a crab sugar cookie. As soon as I got in the house, the rest of the peanut butter cookie disappeared (hmmm...) and the crab cookie lost a claw. There was a great selection at the end of the day on Friday and they were still more items being created. Along with confections, there appeared to be bread selections available. read more

We found this little bakery after getting off the ferry! We love exploring new places and finding little bakeries. Unfortunately, this one didn't quite live up to our expectations. The biscuit was delicious, but the gravy left something to be desired - we are from the south, though, so gravy is eaten at almost every meal! The blueberry scone was very good, but the cheese croissant was not. Some of our cookies were very hard and almost tasted like they'd been there a few days. read more

The breakfasts were perfect. My son and husband loved their biscuits and gracy, and I thought the potatoes (with onions and vegetables )were "yum". The bacon was both crisp and chewy, flavorful and not every salty. We also shared (day-old) cinnamon roll (very good) and a chocolate brioche (delicious)! Extremely disappointed with the service this morning. We (two people) waited well over an hour and finally had to get our food to go because we needed to catch a ferry. When we opened our to go containers, both of our orders were wrong! They were understaffed this morning, and most tables were waiting for food that was plated and ready to be taken out of the kitchen, but the plates were just sitting there getting cold. Patrons at the counter received better service, so perhaps that is the key for a positive experience on a Saturday morning. I appreciate that they are a "from scratch kitchen" (as the main server loudly stated as she sat the table next to us as we waited for our to-go containers - which means "your order can take a while"), as it is part of their charm and appeal. However, the service was poor (my husband was served a cup of coffee that was far from full) and it took 45 minutes from ordering for the wrong food to be packaged. "From scratch" is not a justification for poor management. You pay for the cute experience of dining here with their usually delicious food and nice staff. This morning was nothing short of a disaster. I don't intend on returning - $40 is a lot for the wrong order and poor service. read more

Severely understaffed - we were seated at the Farmhouse Cafe immediately and two tables next to us complained about not having placed their orders yet. One table left. We waited 15 minutes before asking if we could place our order, and the waitress told us that they weren't taking any orders for at least another 5-10 minutes because the kitchen was backed up. She said that we wouldn't get our food for another 30 minutes. We shouldn't have been seated in the first place, or we should have at least been told this information before wasting 15 minutes. We tried to get scones at the Borrowed Bakery but the same staff was working there as at the cafe, so a line formed and we decided not to spend any money at a restaurant/bakery so poorly mismanaged. read more
