Well the soup seemed fine, but what the heck kind of cafe doesn't have internet? I am here to have a late lunch and attend my dumb Zoom meeting. What the heck? A cafe with no internet? And it is right on my commute, but I won't be back.

We stopped here on our first morning visiting Poulsbo. My wife had their egg and ham breakfast sandwich on a biscuit and she said it was the best egg sandwich she has eaten . I tried the brisket Reuben which was also very good. The bakery items looked delicious

I absolutely love Borrowed Kitchen Bakery!!! Every time that I visit my family, this my favorite stop!! Borrowed Kitchen Bakery is a classic small batch bakery in which every item does not disappoint (I have practically tried everything on the menu)! My favorites have to be the chocolate cake, lemon blueberry danish, and apple fritter. The chocolate cake is a three layer cake with a chocolate ganache frosting. This is definitely something to share between two people or have extras for tomorrow. The lemon blueberry danishes generally are out by 8/8:15 ish and served warm from the oven. They are so fresh and I love the addition of fresh zest on top. If you generally prefer a donut as opposed to a danish, Borrowed Kitchen Bakery makes a delicious baked apple fritter! They split into thirds then bake it so that the fritter opens in the open with a cinnamon apple center. You have to try it!

This place is so cute and the bakery items are delicious! I got the orange cinnamon roll and a scone and they were both so good. I was surprised to see that they have sandwiches and an entire lunch menu so I'm excited to go back and try some of those items. And it has a door connecting to the bookstore nextdoor! Definitely recommend this place!

I have lived in Kitsap County for 23 years and have never been here. My friend took me here after our hike for a pastry. Our visit ended up not only purchasing baked goods but staying for lunch. Wow! The citizens of Kingston have wonderful gem in their community! This bakery features breads, amazing pastries and baked goods, a breakfast/lunch menu and coffees. I had the veg sandwich on bread made by the bakery. It was delicious. By the stream of customers, this is a popular spot. There are tables to dine on, self busing. The staff are friendly and helpful.

These folks are so great. We search out sourdough breads and they have so many choices, baked fresh every day, warm and crusty. Plus, their pastries and sandwiches are so good! I love their polenta orange cake with a cup of hot tea on a rainy day. Can't beat sitting at a window table, listening to the hubbub of the customers, reading my book from Saltwater Books right next door that shares the building, watching the winter rain outside. Borrowed Kitchen is a great bakery, lunch spot, hang spot! Oh and they have a huge freezer case of ready to go take-n-bake hand prepared meals too! Really great offerings (ranch n bacon Mac n cheese, root veggies n pork, Cuban pulled pork, chicken Alfredo, a whole Turkey dinner.... (Have to check out what they offer as it varies seasonally). Perfect for those I don't want to cook nights. We come here a lot!

    Ham & Cheese Croissant (Huge!)
    Justin H.

I read some reviews about their ham & cheese croissants on here and obviously had to go try one. Rolled in around 8:30am, walked up to the counter, asked if they had any in stock today. They kindly directed me to where they were and my eyes lit up like a kid on Christmas morning. There stood over a dozen buttery, puffy, stuffed croissants of joy! Ham & Cheese Croissant: Huge! You can see the butter on the outside was baked to a delicious crisp. Mouth watering. The sides oozed melted cheese that seduced me to explore the inside. First bite...ecstasy! Flaky outside turns to soft, deliciousness inside...the juxtaposition was inspiring. I need more of this! Service: Excellent. The staff I interacted with were very nice, welcoming, and helpful.

Chocolate cake! Some of the best that I've ever had.

Like baked goods from that one friend who is an at-home master baker and puts their love into their creations. Ham and cheese croissant is perfect. Chocolate cake was decadent and delicious. I am so glad to have stumbled upon this wonderful bakery. The store is not very apparent from the main road, just look for Henery hardware and Grocery Outlet, it's between.

The employees, even though swamped, took care of us and are cheerful. The restaurant has a homey feel. We ate outside, though in the park next to it. They carried Bedford's brand of sodas, and they are awesome! The Marion Berry cream and the root beer was so good. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. Would definitely recommend you trying it to get your own take on it. 2* = Not so good. Would not recommend at all. Waste of money. 1* = How are they still in business? Stay away at all costs!

I tried to revisit once during the holiday season, but the pastry case was cleaned out except for three cookies. I had much better luck stopping in and hanging out onsite (1/8/26). Same welcoming counter person/barista. Better available variety, and I opted for the featured special, 12oz mocha and a pain au chocolat for $9, which was a great value! There were just two others onsite. There were a lot of takeout customers, including regulars, that I observed while onsite at a nearby two top. My mocha was decent, the pain au chocolat was fresh, good flavor and texture, despite being pretty hollow. The photo I took created quite the illusion, looked like it had mass quantities of melty chocolate. Despite the bakery/cafe has an unassuming, now faded yellow exterior and well worn interior, French and Vietnamese inspired Grand Pere Bakery has quite the longevity record and staying power since March 2014. I'm not sure if it's because something changed on the side of the bakery (maybe recipe or personnel changes?) or on my side, having tried more bakeries around the area. On our last visit we bought two loaves of bread to accompany a butter tasting. Both loaves I found to be not nearly as high quality as I remember previously. Pane Bello ($9) - The crust basically doesn't exist in this bread. It's soft and leathery and doesn't give that satisfying crispness of a well baked bread. The interior, while having good crumb structure, is particularly dry and almost crumbly. The taste is mild, perfect for pairing with higher end butters. (3/5) Parmesan Black Pepper Sourdough ($9) - This batard has similar texture as compared to the Pane Bello. It has the addition of plenty of black pepper baked inside, spaced out rather evenly, allowing a peppery bite every time. There's salty and fatty parmesan baked on top, giving a caramelized salty umami. It definitely has more flavor than the Pane Bello, but suffers from the same textural issues. (3/5) We purchased both loaves at 10AM on a Sunday morning and they were consumed within 2.5 hours, so I don't think it's an issue with storage. I ate a bit of their regular foccacia at a work event too. It has a good crispy exterior and is salted well on the top. Unfortunately the interior isn't the best, having a really dense, chewy crumb. I'm honestly not sure what happened. I really loved The Cottage when I first moved here 1.5 years ago. Now? I have a number of bakeries I'd choose over here in a heartbeat.

I thought the items we grabbed were excessively sweet. Keeping an open mind that they offer a larger variety of pastries and goods I didn't try but my visit felt just average. While not overly impressed, I can appreciate a solid spot with fresh donuts and pastries managing high traffic. Line tends to be long but moves at a moderate speed, as the employees are open to chatting. Large Butterhorn - excessively sweet to a point where I felt sick of sugar because it's also pretty big. I personally would rather eat a fluffy donut because this felt more like a condensed block of sugar, but seems to be a favorite for others. Might just not be for me. Swedish Almond Pastry - while this was also super sweet, the almond flavor was able to pop out at times. Sliced almonds on top helped sprinkle some extra flavor but were ultimately consumed by the sweetness. A little flakier in texture which helped dissociate with the dense sugar block.
