A friend of mine suggested this place when I asked where to visit in kingston and out of all the options, I'm glad I chose this one to visit first. It's really nice inside, I had the brownie and hot chocolate. best hot chocolate I ever had when compared to the one I usually get at the cafe by my job. The Borrowed Kitchen is a great little bakery in the shopping plaza, so plenty of free parking, which is difficult in downtown Kingston. Stopped in here with a friend to discuss a project and wanted a space to have great coffee, with a baked treat, and be able to sit at a table and talk. This place checked all the boxes! There are so many delicious baked goods to choose from, it's hard to decide. I will definitely be returning to try their freshly made bread, and soups to go! read more

I absolutely love Borrowed Kitchen Bakery!!! Every time that I visit my family, this my favorite stop!! Borrowed Kitchen Bakery is a classic small batch bakery in which every item does not disappoint (I have practically tried everything on the menu)! My favorites have to be the chocolate cake, lemon blueberry danish, and apple fritter. The chocolate cake is a three layer cake with a chocolate ganache frosting. This is definitely something to share between two people or have extras for tomorrow. The lemon blueberry danishes generally are out by 8/8:15 ish and served warm from the oven. They are so fresh and I love the addition of fresh zest on top. If you generally prefer a donut as opposed to a danish, Borrowed Kitchen Bakery makes a delicious baked apple fritter! They split into thirds then bake it so that the fritter opens in the open with a cinnamon apple center. You have to try it! read more

This place is so cute and the bakery items are delicious! I got the orange cinnamon roll and a scone and they were both so good. I was surprised to see that they have sandwiches and an entire lunch menu so I'm excited to go back and try some of those items. And it has a door connecting to the bookstore nextdoor! The sandwhiches, soups, burrito's, and the savory crossant here are not good and are overpriced. Who is asking for a crossant that tastes like a poorly made slice of pizza? The $14 dollar tuna melt is an absolute catfood nightmare joke, I gave the other half of it to the dog. The cinnamon roll here is good but nothing special. The bread here is nothing special. Had a mocha here once and it was not good. The bear claws, scones, danishes, and crossants here are actually quite the opposite of everything else...they are very good provided their oven is working correctly that day...I once got a crossant with a raw center bc of a misbehaving oven...note to staff: if the oven is not working dont operate it. It is the owners responsibility to ensure the kitchen is functional and it is the health departments responsibilty to shut you down if the owners dont want to do that. They did replace the raw crossant upon request a few days later but the mistake of serving raw dough really should not be happening at a bakery. read more

This morning, I stopped by borrowed kitchen and purchased a cup of soup to go for seven dollars. Once I settled in at work and opened my lunch, I noticed that my "cup" of soup was served in a much larger container -- but with less than a cup of soup inside. Even though I felt a bit embarrassed, I decided to return to address the issue because I had paid for a full serving. The woman at the register was very kind and helpful, which I appreciated. However, when she went to speak with the kitchen staff, I could clearly hear the frustration in their voices. They weren't quiet about it, and I found that to be unprofessional. In the service industry, presentation and attitude go a long way. When I looked at my soup, all I saw was a lack of care -- not just in portion, but in attention to detail. If the wrong container is used, the right thing to do would be to fill it appropriately or remake the order correctly. A "cup" of soup, especially one priced at seven dollars, should be served as advertised. While the tomato basil soup itself was delicious, the experience left a poor impression due to the attitudes I overheard and the lack of effort to correct the issue properly. In the end, I was handed a smaller container with about the same amount of soup -- which didn't resolve the problem. read more

These folks are so great. We search out sourdough breads and they have so many choices, baked fresh every day, warm and crusty. Plus, their pastries and sandwiches are so good! I love their polenta orange cake with a cup of hot tea on a rainy day. Can't beat sitting at a window table, listening to the hubbub of the customers, reading my book from Saltwater Books right next door that shares the building, watching the winter rain outside. Borrowed Kitchen is a great bakery, lunch spot, hang spot! Oh and they have a huge freezer case of ready to go take-n-bake hand prepared meals too! A guilty pleasure that leaves me with a clean conscience... If there's one place I will without fail bring any visitor, it's Borrowed Kitchen. No matter what you crave, from make-your-mouth-water savory to giggle-triggering sweet, you'll be satisfied. I try to choose something new every time. Today it was the sandwich of the day (Caprese) and a special order sparkling coffee request...both were excellent. My favorite thing to keep at home is a bag of their decadent-yet-guilt-free house granola (which I keep stashed and only get in to when no one will notice). I hope this doesn't come off as hype. I truly love what BKB does. I'd be there every day (and 30 lbs heavier), but if it became my "normal" I'd be setting myself for disappointment going anywhere else. I read some reviews about their ham & cheese croissants on here and obviously had to go try one. Rolled in around 8:30am, walked up to the counter, asked if they had any in stock today. They kindly directed me to where they were and my eyes lit up like a kid on Christmas morning. There stood over a dozen buttery, puffy, stuffed croissants of joy! Ham & Cheese Croissant: Huge! You can see the butter on the outside was baked to a delicious crisp. Mouth watering. The sides oozed melted cheese that seduced me to explore the inside. First bite...ecstasy! Flaky outside turns to soft, deliciousness inside...the juxtaposition was inspiring. I need more of this! Service: Excellent. When I came in on Saturday, I placed a phone order the girl who placed it for me when I called and totally forgot about my order so I had to wait an extra 30 minutes upon watching the girl prep my food. She was continuing to eat her burrito above my burrito While using the same gloves she was prepping my food with touching her food. This place is not very sanitary I already reported them to food and safety of Washington. I highly recommend you to watch the people who are prepping your food. If you decide to go here the owner came out when I made a complaint about it and she was highly aggressive towards me same with the staff I highly do not recommend this place. It has gone downhill ever since they moved to their new location! On top of that they messed up my order. They only gave me half of my gravy. They gave me two bacon burritos when I asked for one sausage and one bacon they can't get their crap together on top of that. My husband and I dropped by this cozy bakery for lunch at about 12:30 pm, yesterday (Saturday, September 28th). The young woman who served us was surprisingly unfriendly. It wasn't busy. We placed a simple order, each choosing a sandwich (no substitutions or special requests), and each ordering an iced coffee. The server barely responded to us and never cracked the slightest smile, though we were kind, and we left her a tip. We concluded that she must be having a bad day. We're all human, so we were happy to give grace. We shrugged it off and chose a table by the window. A few minutes later, another customer came in, and like a light switch, the young server became an entirely different person, friendly, bubbly, and chatty. We were stunned. Apparently, she just didn't like US for some reason. Because we aren't regulars, perhaps? (We do live locally, and this was our third visit). The food was pretty good, and the coffee was wonderful. I recently ordered a birthday cake from Borrowed Bakery and it was quite pricey but wow, was it amazing! The mocha chocolate cake for 25 people was a lot more than I thought it would be price wise ($140) but the thing weighed about 17lbs and was honestly the best cake I've had from a commercial bakery. It was dense but not in a bad way, and it wasn't too sweet. You could really appreciate the flavor of the chocolate and the mocha. It was an easy pick up process. I ordered it over the phone and the staff was very friendly. I also tried a drink and an orange roll when I went to pick it up and that seemed a lot more reasonably priced and the roll was delicious! I had never been to the bakery before and don't spend much time in Kingston, but it really seemed like there is a vibrant close knit community and this bakery/coffee shop/book store were a key part of it, which really makes me want to come back. Definitely worth the drive to Kingston! read more

This review is based on my sister and my husband's review of the baked goods. I am GF so was not able to eat here. My sister lives in Kingston and goes here every week for their fresh baked bread and a slice of the chcolate cake. She claims it is the best chocolate cake she has ever eaten! So of course we had to take my husband because he is obsessed with Chcocolate. He was not dissappointed. The cake was rich and dense--a chocolate lovers dream. Great place to stop by for a quick bite or breakfast! Was visiting around town and got hungry so me and my friend decided to stop by this place and give it a try. A sweet storefront in a shopping center that houses the local hardware store, a grocery market and a used bookshop. Borrowed Kitchen not only offers delicious fresh baked breads and cookies and a full coffee bar, but they have an entire section of take home meals and meal ingredients, including a wide array of house made soups to take home, heat and serve. Check out their board of daily meal kits for those days when you JUST DON'T WANT TO COOK. Brilliant. They've recently expanded in partnership with Liberty Bay Books, in nearby Poulsbo, to offer food themed books, cookbooks and other fun non-edible stuff. There are very few places to sit, but that isn't a big deal because the harbor is only a short walk away for a baked good with a view. read more

I'm thrilled to have BKB in my neighborhood. Their fresh sourdough is so good and I've always said they make the best Ham and Cheese Croissant in the world however I wasn't completely confident with that statement until now. I am so glad this store is here. I can't say enough about the yummy food. From the baked goods, to the premade food, sandwiches, soup and holiday pies, everything here is so delicious. We have yet to eat something that wasn't. Just like any good bakery, you need to get there early to get all the fresh baked goodies. The cashier usually makes the coffee so if you can't handle waiting for a few, go to Starbucks. They may be limited on staff but they are bountiful in quality. I actually like their baked good better than Sluy's in Poulsbo. And BOOKS! They have a lovely array of books including cooking, gardening, tide pooling, indigenous culture and more. We stopped in for chocolate cake per my sisters recommendation. Apparently her mother in law comes here every day on her visits to get a slice of their chocolate cake. I can understand why. It is nothing short of amazing deliciousness. I am not usually such a fan of chocolate cake, but man. This was a little slice of heaven. The slice is generous and enough to share, if you're feeling extra friendly. We also tried their Italian Cream soda which my son gave 2 thumbs up. I recommend stopping in for a slice. Sorry folks, but when you go into a restaurant at 12:30 PM, on a Friday, it should be busy. Should have known to walk out when all tables were empty. The menu had about 7 or eight sandwiches on it. However they were "out" of 50% of them. Ordered Turkey Melt. My side choices were potato chips or homemade potato salad. Ordered the salad. When brought to us, told us they were out of the salad... but I could choose a bag of chips... ok. Not a great start. Sandwich was dry and flavorless. Bit into it and damn near broke a tooth! The crust on the bottom of the sandwich was completely black. Burnt to a crisp. Oh, had a latte as well.... The worst one I've ever had. No joke. The place was filthy. The shared bathroom was worse and no paper towels. This place will not make it. read more

The Borrowed Kitchen Bakery in my neighborhood has come a very long way since their early days a few years ago. I went there today with a friend and I was more than pleasantly surprised at the extensive breakfast menu. I was also very pleased with how the food was presented and tasted. The quality was surprisingly very high. My friend got pancakes, bacon, and eggs. I ended up with the huevos rancheros. Honestly, my only complaint was there was not enough salsa or tortillas for the amount of food I got. I actually had to ask for more salsa. What a gem of a place. I highly recommend that you stop by and have a full breakfast. Yes, they have plenty of breakfast sweets like cinnamon rolls and other things but the actual meals are hearty and tasty. read more

My cookie was good. But the breakfast sandwich was inedible. I took one bite and spit it out. The biscuit was soggy and stale at the same time. It has probably been sitting for a few hours. And, they advertise lunch. That means 'get a pre-made sandwich from the fridge'. No. I can do that at a gas station. The iced tea was nearly flavorless. It's really hard to ruin iced tea.
