This place is so cute! And the service was so great too! They were so polite when you walk in! Also, if you're waiting for their food, they have games on the side and coloring sheets for the kids. The, Puerto Rican wedding cake flavor and quesitos are soo good and they are not stingy with the guava sauce. Definitely check it out :))
Delicious and fresh got the sampler that included 6 soaked cup cakes 2 quesitos 6 cookies and some tiny pastelitos it's in a small strip parking can be tough but there is a side street you can park at. Pricing is good and it's a cute space
The soaked cakes as Ana who works there and is amazing said it's a traditional Puerto Rican cake soaked to make it moist and of course I bought a dozen. The choices of flavors were amazing. Ok I dove in with a coquito cake OMG paired so well with my cafecito (black cofffee) just sat here and just truly enjoyed the experience. A comfortable space decorated to make you feel welcome even the music was part of the whole experience. Ana took her time to explain the soaked cake and saw that I dint finish my soaked cake and asked if something was wrong or was it to sweet. I am not a really big sweet eater but love to partake and she offered a less sweet option Chantilly topping. I thought that was so extra to go out of her way and take her time to make sure everything was ok. And they were steady busy!!! Thank you for a lovely afternoon treat !!! Almost forgot the cute little kid area with crayons and paper kept me occupied for hours LOL very family friendly
There's not many places in Chicago that truly have authentic puerto rican food, I was reluctant on trying this place because of all the disappointing places i've tried before. I am so glad I went in to try this place, this will not be the last time I go. The service was amazing, the vibe was great & most of all the food was PHENOMENAL. I will be catering them for my daughter's birthday. Thank you guys.
Absolutely loved the tripleta! The lechón was so juicy and it had the little potato chips they use in PR! I also loved the guava cheese cupcake, but I like everything guava. They were playing Bad Bunny Binny and coqui sounds which was so nostalgic. I also got a coquito frappe, very sweet.
The first thing that I can say about this establishment is that it is very welcoming. When you walk in, you immediately see the bright colors. You hear the upbeat Spanish music; a blend of everything you can think of. It was also cool that you could hear the sound of the Coqui frog from time to time. The decor is simple, Bistro-like but you can see the Puerto Rican pride on display. It felt like walking into someone's home. There were games for people to play. I saw a group playing a game of Uno. My son and I played a game of chess. It was great. The menu was pretty diverse. You had your drinks, desserts/pastries and their version of water based paletas in a cup (Limbers). Don't let me forget the sandwiches. The menu included a lot mentions of pina colada, coquito, matcha, guava, mango, passion fruit. I had a Coquito flavored ice coffee! Amazing! I never would have thought of that! I had the Tamarindo Limber. The Limber was an educational experience since the cashier shared that no spoons are used and are usually squeezed out of the cup and flipped over. The cup kinda becomes your cone as you enjoy the flavored ice. I felt why that would remind someone of their culture. My wife ordered a couple of tropical drinks: Mango colada, Strawberry guava colada and Mango passion fruit cherry splash. My son had one of their cupcakes. The service was great. I looked over a few photos and it seems to be a small family business. You can feel all the time and love that went into this venture. We were greeted with a smile. I want to say the lady at the cashier may have been the owner. She was very attentive and personable! I cannot believe more people do not know about this local gem! I live in the suburbs and we were visiting my sister in law but I can say we will definitely be going back. They also have a punch card reward. Oh and they had Tripleta, which I heard about from a coworker. I will have to try that next time. If you are from the area, you have to check it out! Even if you're not but you're looking for a different Puerto Rican experience, I think this may be it! As always check it out for yourself.
The cakes are incredibly dense and delicious but way too pricey and sweet. I love their guava and cheese items but I found places to purchase the same taste for a lot less. If you can spare the extra cash in this economy, I say try them out; they are very tasty.
What a great little gem by midway. Amazing pastries, avena and sandwiches! Make it a stop on your way to wherever!
*stocks up, stocks down, tarrifs, no tarrifs, it don't matter. rey is still outside eating a sweet treat because he's the absolute guvna. the sweet treats here made my whole weekend
Soy Boriqua wepaaaa!! Found this on tik tok excited to finally come try them this very cute place out. Bien linda adentro afuera no, outside not so much. Yo ordene Coquito frappe, frappe se ve deliciosa de afuera pero el sabor no. No sabía nada como coquito o café tampoco. Yo creo que el heilo the ice waters it down alottt. Sabía como agua. They need to put more stronger café y coco so when they blend it, it still be strong in flavor. El sabor no estaba ahí de café o de coco. Es mi opinión. Sandiwich cubano sabía rico. Y Más con el pan sobao. oredene pa llevar a casa los mini Cakes. Se ven bonitas pero Too sweet too wet. Los quesitos de dulce de leche were perfectly deliciosa , de guava no. Nada de queso adentro. Wud I buy again? maybe no se era un poquito caro bit expensive for these tiny cakes y los quesitos. Long ride to come try i spent 48.00 to much for what I got. Cakes muy dulce, bebida too watery. Quesitos de guava no queso, dulce de leche muy rico. Sándwich cubano was good too, liked the pan sobao. The place is very cute, had the experience but definitely don't think I wud come back. I would go to San Juan bakery for my quesitos better price y sabor muyy rico!!
Oh gosh, I was hesitant even giving a review. I so wanted to really joy these as it's been quite a while I've been wanting to try them out. I bought a four pack and for over $20 it was supposed to be the type of cupcake that dropped kicked me down the stairs! Wah wah, it wasn't. The frosting is super dense and sweet and the filling was supposed to be oozing of flavor, I mean it had flavor but wasn't oozing as the young lady at counter said it would be. Could it be since it was late, there are early morning cupcakes? Hmmm,i wanted them to seriously be the equivalent to other cupcakes in Chicago but alas, wah wah.now, I will say the actual ambience is beautiful. It was tailored made to look like a cute bistro. But that isn't enough for the 4 or 5 star review. Now you all know me, I will be trying them again, and maybe next time earlier to make sure the cupcakes are fresh. I was hoping for more, but I paid more and got less. I gave away a few and the same thing was said by others, they were hard on frosting and crumbling, this isn't something you want on a cupcake that is more than $5. Awww, I'll try again soon.

'C' IS FOR CUPCAKE CATASTROPHE I'm glad to support this Puerto Rican bakery, even if a few things badly missed the mark. Borinken Cakes is a small restaurant and baked goods shop on Archer Ave, just east of Cicero in the Garfield Ridge neighborhood of Chicago. My wife insisted on coming here to try their 'tripleta' (a meat-heavy sandwich) as well as buy a few beloved pastries. The Cubano ($13) was better than average: roast pork, ham, pickles, mustard, and swiss cheese on lightly buttered 'pan sobao' (soft sweet bread). The sandwich itself was dry, a splash of hot sauce helped. Sadly, it doesn't come with chips or Yuca fries. The specialty coquito ($6) was a lot of fun, an eggnog-like drink with blue matcha powder and strawberry drizzle added to emulate the Puerto Rican flag. My wife got a fresh mango juice ($3.75) and a Puerto Rican coffee ($3) she said was "like a weak Keurig". Unfortunately, the cupcakes--which are supposed to be soaked--had all sorts of issues. Our experience with half a dozen cupcakes was brutal; either they were bone dry or had a troubling gritty texture, like wet sand. At least 1 went straight in the trash. Funny enough, our 3yo (a sweets lover) took one bite and spit it out, which we amounted to her being a picky eater. Later on, I tried a spoonful of the same cupcake and damn near had the same reaction! Turns out, little miss was right....and at $5/ea these weren't cheap blunders, either. They had magna-tiles and crayons to keep kids entertained, which we appreciated. The girl behind the counter wasn't very friendly, and though my interactions with her were brief, my wife detected an attitude while she placed an order. Ooof, not your finest hour mi gente. * TL;DR * Though I'm no expert baker, I can't imagine bungling a cupcake as badly as they did here. The quesitos were fine, but the acclaimed cupcakes had us shaking our heads in disappointment. One was drier than Death Valley, the next was like faceplanting into wet sand. It's one thing to be lacking flavor, but a poor texture is an immediate 'no'. Cuban was tasty if a little pricey; for $13 it oughta come with something more than air. Employees could benefit from some customer service re-training and the house coffee tasted like a K-cup pod (wife's words, not mine). It pains me to leave a lukewarm review for a Boricua business, but cupcakes priced at $5/ea need to be high quality and the ones at Borinken Cakes fell way short of expectations. read more

My boyfriend loves this place so much and I love how much he loves this place. On our third date, he bought me a box of quesitos and recently we went back. This time, we got the coquito cupcake, piña colada, quesito de nutella, and a tripleta. My favorite thing was the nutella quesito, I'd definitely go back to get this. The piña colada was also good and a reasonable price and my boyfriend loved the tripleta. read more

So my husband and I tried these three cupscakes. The pinacolada, coquito, & wedding cake and two quesitos. The questio barely had any filling in it and was very dry. The cupcakes topping and flavors didn't really taste that great I didn't get that urge for another bite. Plus very overpriced cupcakes I love to support upcoming business not to Sounds like a complete ass its just honest feedback. read more

This was a treat. I found this bakery on IG and it looked so adorable that I wanted to take my tween to give it a try. I was in the area Sunday and decided to pop in. Super welcoming and friendly service. They seemed so appreciative to have my business before I even picked what I wanted which was a plus. I will be back often! I ordered 4 cupcakes: Coquito Cupcake - the coconut, icing and cake together were a lovely sweet mix. Piña Colada Cupcake - my favorite of the four that I bought! The icing was the perfect amount of sweet with the cake that was slightly soaked. The cherry on top gave it a nice complete finish. So yummy. Guava Dream - the perfect fruit like cupcake. The icing and cake makes each bite of this taste like ice cream for some reason sooooo delicious!! Dulce De Leche Cupcake - my second favorite! It tastes like a creamy caramel like cake that was so delicious. I didn't expect to love this one but wow read more

It hurts because I really wanted to love this place. It's super cute and the concept of it is amazing. However I was greeted very rudely when walking in. The place wasn't even busy I was the only one in there. The pack of four cupcakes is very expensive and I did not like any of them. They aren't moist as the claim to be and aren't sweet at all. It's supposed to be a treat, don't be afraid to make them a little sweet. The one thing I did like that ain't pictured here is the coquito coffee. It was more in the sweeter side tho and wish it would be taken down a notch because it doesn't taste anything like coffee. If I ever decide to give this place another shot it would be just for the coffee. read more

Didn't really know what to expect. Walked in about 15 minutes before closing. Still had a wide variety, service was good. I bought anything Guava they had to offer and it was amazing. The flavor was to be just good, cakes were so moist. Will definitely go again. read more

Love the concept behind this place in terms of flavors and Puerto Rican influence. Cupcakes are very cute and colorful, however, the container makes it very hard to eat. You probably need a spoon so it doesn't get too messy, so a little inconvenient there. The consistency of the cupcakes were a little grainy but overall, I liked the flavors and the fillings were excellent; coquito and guava were great. The coco parcha was a little sweet for my taste. The shop itself makes a great addition to Humboldt park and I would love to see some tweaks with cake base recipe and containers. read more

Ok so before I start I am a big cupcake junkie so I've had many different brands of cupcakes that I've tried. I was looking forward to tasting these and I finally had a chance to do so today. I tasted the guava cupcake today. The cupcakes are kind of cute not going to lie. As far as taste goes they weren't good, especially for that price. I tasted the guava and the actual sauce/syrup had a great taste but when I tasted the actual bread it was grainy like and not moist. I'm not sure if this is how it's suppose to taste but I wasn't too impressed. The container they come in also makes it hard to eat because it's so tight and let's not talk about the size- enough for a quick bite or two. I will definitely not be going for more especially for that steep price. read more

I love love love this place all the cakes are great but my ultimate favorite is the almond cakes. I go once a week and I can't get enough. Everything is good they have this ice cream that's almost like a mix between ice cream and marzipan that is great! The shakes are great too. Must go! read more
