First off, the service is amazing! We had reservations at 8pm and our table wasn't ready so the manager came up to us to explain the delay. The Che's family were sitting at our table and so they were a bit delayed leaving. Gold stars for that! The decor is modern, inviting and comfy. We ordered several appetizers including the artichoke, anchovies, focaccia (more of a flatbread). For entrees, we shared the special steak (strip/medium rare) and the roasted chicken which was delicious! For sides, we had the arugula and broccoli rabe. Both very good, although the arugula was a tad bit salty. For dessert, we ordered the flourless chocolate cake (yum!) and they brought out a slice of a another cake that reminded us of a fancy fig newton which was good! My SO (significant other) had two glasses of red from Alsace which he liked. I had a glass of white - Vermentino (good!) Overall a good meal and impeccable service. Great energy at the bar, beautiful, lighting, and fantastic food. It was my first time, and I just had a drink and an appetizer at the bar, but it was a great experience. I've had chicken liver mousse on fresh bread before, but this was on another level. Beautifully prepared, nuanced and balanced, what a dish! The bartender told me this appetizer would pair great with the old-fashioned I had already ordered, and he was not lying! I can't wait to try more of their food!. This review refers to the East 27th street location. Firstly, the portions were quite small for the prices charged. The food had a wee bit too much salt. I seriously dislike this, would appreciate adding my own if needed. This is an acquired taste, the more you use, the more you want. The dining room is seriously nothing appealing in this price range . I visited many times and really enjoyed the previous Italian restaurant and food that was there years ago and seeing the outdoors in the rear of the dining room. I arrived a little before our reservation and they seated me (I LOVE IT WHEN THEY DO THAT) and my fellow diners arrived shortly after. You have to start by admiring their decor. There's a huge fireplace in the center of the restaurant, beautiful arched doorways and little decorative touches throughout the entire space that give it an elegant and cozy and warm feeling. I'll have to get the name of their decorator on my next visit. Service is also excellent. Just enough attention and our server gave us all the best recommendations. We got the: - Citrus salad (must order) - Buffalo mozz (must must order, for just the olive oil alone) - Beef tartare (the chip that comes with it, is very very good) - Fettuccine (died and went to heaven good) - Risotto mushroom (heavenly) - Fennel sausage and lentil (just ok, I'd skip it) - Broccoli rabe (terrible presentation, but divine to eat!) Went in on Thanksgiving and want to give the upmost gratitude for the staff and crew for working on a holiday as I know this is a tough thing to do. However, for a restaurant that required prepaid and pretip billing for a pre fixe meal you would imagine that the menu would be well planned & prepped. However, that was not the case. We were heavily encouraged to all order the prime rib option for the main as we debated ordering mains to show. The server mentioned that the prime rib was the star of the show and was very adamant about getting it. Before we could even all make our minds up he said he wrote down prime rib for all of us. About 5 minutes later he comes back and announces that the kitchen has said that prime rib is out. We literally thought it was a joke as we had started to build a friendly rapport with him. It was a bit of an awkward stand off I won't lie & I let out a very uncomfortable laugh as one does in a time of grief. I felt bad for our server in this moment. I felt management should have help him out in this situation as the prep work in this kitchen was obviously not his wrongdoing. Mind you - we chose Borgo for our Thanksgiving menu option of many in the city as it had a beef option and our lot isn't really keen on traditional Turkey entrees. But nonetheless we went on. We reorder. As we were still - about 45 minutes later - waiting for any morsel or food to hit the table - of the pre fixe. Any bread. Any spread. Any item of the many items listed. We were approached yet again that one of the items we ordered as main was out. Now two of the items listed on the pre fixe were gone. Now it was just silly that we had prepaid for options and all the options were slowly but surely drying up. We eventually started to get food. It was fine. Fried artichokes with no sauce. A crispy cracker type bread that wasn't their famed Focaccia. A fava bean spread. All in all substance was good at this point. I will say - 10 stars for the bar program and the martini cart. This part and Lee on the wine program is why this rating isn't lower than 3 stars. Truly delightful individuals who helped define our evening! But we originally asked for the Martini 2 that game with Gin with vodka and we were told everything was pre batched and they proceeded to then make our martinis table side so this was a bit confusing. However - it was a tasty martini if not very unique. Next we got the pastas. Thank god for the one dish worth loving the risotto because other wise I would have left the whole evening wanting. The risotto was delicious!!! More of that. The rigatoni was dry and had been under a heat lamp waiting to go to a table far too long. The sauce was sauce less to say. It was dryyyyy. For the mains we all had to get turkey as that was all that was left and as typical turkey goes - it was fine. But when you pick a menu that has prime rib on it and have to settle for turkey it's obviously underwhelming. The sides and dessert were fine. I think the most disappointing part of it all was no recognition in the lack of care to the amount our group paid for the meal and the portion of the menu that was not offered to us. Again I know it's tough to be open on Thanksgiving but the communication, messaging, ability to be nimble and offer different solutions didn't measure up. As someone who has worked in restaurants on holidays I know the care and extra attention it takes and unfortunately with this experience the mark was missed for our group who spent this holiday in the city. From the moment you step inside you are warmly greeted by the hostess(es). We were early and were escorted to the bar, where we were greeted by a friendly cocktail server. She helped us decide on drinks that arrived quickly to our table. We were soon collected by the hostess and seated at our table. Our server offered was very welcoming and offered water and topped off our wine. I ordered a delicious mushroom ravioli and my husband had large noodle ragu. We also ordered a salad/appetizer that our server recommended to eat with our entrees and it was all amazing. The service was impeccable and the food was perfect. I had dinner with a friend last night at Borgo and it was such a wonderful dining experience. It's not easy to score a reservation but when you do you will be treated to the most innovative menu filled with delicious choices and impeccable service. The restaurant is very beautiful with 2 dining rooms and a beautiful outdoor garden. This is one of the best dining experiences I've had in awhile. Everything we ordered we just absolutely loved. They truly are doing something very special here ....from the moment you walk in the door they're extremely accommodating their waiters and bar staff are very attentive and the ambience is just amazing, subtle cozy, and chic...... it was a very cold day, but we warmed up immediately in front of the gorgeous fireplace...... LOVED this restaurant! I was super impressed especially since they only opened 3 weeks ago. The vibe was so cute and cozy, we were seated in the open kitchen area at a corner booth and it was SO nice. Such a cool concept to be able to watch the kitchen, and the booth seats were very comfortable. The whole vibe felt like sitting in someone's dining room. Entire staff starting from the hostess was great- we had several staff members frequently checking in on us, clearing the table, etc. Lawanda was our server and she was so bubbly and sweet. All of the food was great; we ordered the squash, fava puree, marinated artichokes and the ravioli. I'm not even a huge fan of mushrooms and I thought it was delicious!! They bring each table lemon merengues at the end which is a nice touch and we also ordered the apple strudel for dessert. So good! The ambience and service was amazing. Food was a little slow but not bad. We ordered the focaccia, the fried squash, and the fettuccine. It was all really good, but everything was a little too salty (especially the focaccia). I could have managed if one dish was a little salty but all three were a little too salty, so the meal had less variety in flavor profiles than expected. I will definitely go back and order the squash and a pasta and likely a salad to balance out the salt with more freshness. read more

We decided to try Borgo given the good press and initially positive reviews. We were disappointed by the food and even more so by the service. One pasta dish arrived cold. I asked them to replace it. The dish that came back looked the same with the part I had eaten missing. I asked the manager if they just reheated the pasta dish. I called Borgo at 530pm on a Friday night asking if there was availability for walk ins she said depends on who walks in. But come on over, we got over in 5 minutes since we were close. We walk in the hostess let us know walk ins are only for the bar (wish she told us that on the phone). We then try to get a drink while we wait. There are little bar tables first come first serve you can sit at to wait for a drink, we go to order at the bar they tell us to sit down and someone will be over to take our order. 20 mins later someone comes over to take our drink orders we order 2 basic glasses of wine. During that time we get called up to sit at the bar. We're sitting the bartender throws us a menu asks if we want water, I tell him yeah and we also ordered drinks, I don't see our drinks being made he's making 5 martinis in front of us and 1 bartender. 30 minutes later no drink and no asking if we wanted to order an app or anything, it felt like we were in the twilight zone this is nyc. Should not take 30 mins to pour a glass of wine especially if you are AT THE BAR. So we left. read more

We anticipated our visit to Borgo for quite a while, but we left really disappointed. In short, underwhelming food and lousy business practices. We showed up on time for our reservation and got told our table wasn't ready. No big deal to us. They sat us at a temporary table to the side next to the front door and asked if we wanted olives and bread (specifically those two items) while we wait on our table. Thinking this was a kind courtesy given they were running behind, we said yes. We hadn't even been offered menus yet. We were later stunned to find they charged us for the bread and olives on top of not having our table ready for 35 minutes past our start time. We wouldn't have agreed to these had we known - we mistakenly thought they were being nice. The dishes varied from very salty to one-dimensional flavor, and one of our dishes was blatantly different from the menu description. We also didn't love how the staff walks around repeatedly cleaning crumbs off the table directly in between you and the plate as you eat forcing you to stop eating. It would make sense between courses, but not in the middle of dining. There were two positives for us - the ambience and friendly staff. We are sensitive to the fact that every restaurant has an off night, but all things considered, we don't plan to return. read more
