    After a friend recommended this place and said it had good authentic Thai food, I had to try it. I've been here few times and it's definitely good. Some of my favorites dishes are the appetizer sampler (a must if you go with a lot of people) and the pad thai Boran (different from their regular pad thai). Highly recommended!

    I can't believe this place doesn't have five stars across the board! We stopped in to escape a snowstorm on a Sunday late afternoon and it was nearly empty, super quiet and tranquil which is just what we needed. The staff were kind and the décor felt distinctive but nostalgic. I got the Meang Pla Tod (mackerel appetizer) and the Khao Knook Gapi. The appetizer was served in porcelain soup spoons with a pile of noodles and piece of fish each, to which you could add the spicy sauce. Very flavorful, a nice way to start the meal and try a fish I don't usually have prepared in a traditional way (reminded me a bit of the Korean breaded fried mackerel dish). But the standout for me was the main dish, which had shredded mango, scallions, cucumber, fried rice, juicy sausage, and flavorful pork to mix all together almost like a bibimbap. It was the perfect amount of food, the flavors were married beautifully, and the meat in particular was like nothing else I've ever tried. It was just such a cozy hidden gem in Carroll Gardens, and I want to try so many other things like the pad thai and duck curries. So delicious, quite reasonable pricing, a calming atmosphere. Truly a can't miss experience.

    I came here for dinner as a back-up option after failing to get into Ugly Baby, a renowned nearby NYC Thai restaurant that was closing that week. It's a small, but cozy restaurant adorned with bright decorations and colorful plates. To eat, I had pad thai with tofu. They uniquely prepare this classic dish by covering the noodles with a blanket of fried egg. The peanuts, scallions, and crushed pepper are arranged on the sides of the plate for mixing in. It was very tasty and included a generous portion of chewy tofu. Service was fast, though our waitress was a bit curt.

    Boran has to be my favorite Thai restaurant in NYC. Maybe even one of my top 10 favorite restaurants of all time. I came here on a Saturday around 2:30 PM with a group of six for lunch. The wait was about 30 minutes. There's no indoor waiting area, so we had to wait outside. There's parking nearby so you can also wait in your car until they text you that your table is ready. We ordered the mixed appetizer platter, fresh young coconut green curry with chicken, duck garlic, maing pla tod (their signature fish), crab meat fried rice, and beef pad Thai. Mixed Appetizer Platter: This is a must if you're indecisive and want to sample all the appetizers. It came with chicken satay, grilled honey pork, sausages, fried crab dumplings, curry puffs, steamed tapioca with sweet ground pork, and shrimp rolls. Plus, four dipping sauces to mix and match. It's perfect for sharing or just treating yourself to a little bit of everything. Fresh Young Coconut Green Curry with Chicken: You can pick your protein (we chose chicken), and they don't skimp on the chicken. The coconut flavor came through strong, but the curry itself wasn't as bold as I expected. It had a bit of heat, but nothing overwhelming. This used to come with sticky rice, but now it's served with regular white rice. I wish this came with sticky rice again. Duck Garlic: This dish was a standout! The duck was tender with crispy skin and served over Chinese broccoli soaked in a rich, flavorful sauce. Every bite was perfection. Maing Pla Tod (Signature Fish Dish): The fish was already cut into pieces (no bones!), making it super easy to eat, but they left the whole fish intact for presentation. The flavors were amazingggg, a mix of sweet and salty. Add a pepper if you want some spicy. Crab Meat Fried Rice: This dish was simple but so well done. It came with plenty of crab meat on top, and the sauce and lime were served on the side so we could customize it. A drizzle of sauce and a squeeze of lime made all the flavors come together. Beef Pad Thai: The presentation was so unique!The noodles were wrapped in an egg "blanket," and you had to cut it open to get to the Pad Thai inside. The toppings (chili flakes, peanuts, lime, bean sprouts, and chives) were served on the side, which was thoughtful since not everyone loves them all. We tried it without lime at first, and it was a little sweet, but adding lime balanced it out perfectly. Heads up: the chili flakes are super spicy! We also wanted to try the mango sticky rice, but unfortunately, they were out of mangoes. I was so disappointed because I'd been looking forward to it. I'd recommend Boran to anyone looking for amazing Thai food in NYC.

    Delicious food both classic Thai staples and those a little more rare/creative. Seemed to do an equal amount of takeout as well as dine in. Cozy space but not too pretentious. The waitress was helpful in explaining dishes and smartly asked all tables about allergies. I've dined with friends with allergies and other dietary restrictions and here it seems they'd be more than willing to accommodate or offer dishes that suit the requirements. A little expensive to gain a spot in the regular rotation but a nice treat nonetheless.

    If you're looking for authentic Thai food, this is the place to try. It is run by Thai staff. It was pretty empty on a Saturday afternoon but it was one of the Thai restaurants I wanted to try out in Park Slope. Place isn't too big and can probably seat less than 10 parties at once. I ordered the Meang Pla Tod appetizer, which is basically a mackerel salad, Khao Knook Gapi Boran (one of their specials) and Mackerel Fried Rice. Presentation of food was A+++ and the taste matches its presentation. The mackerel salad was delicious and refreshing. I loved their spicy green sauce. All their sauces that accompany the dishes are pretty spicy but so good. The mackerel fried rice was one of the best fried rice I've had. The mackerel serving was generous -- slices on top of the bed of fried rice and surprised to find mackerel bites within the fried rice as well. The Khao Knook Gapi Boran comes deconstructed style but you mix all the veggies, egg and meat up with their sauce and you have flavor packed in a plate. All the dishes we tried were so good. Can't rave about this place enough and can't wait to come back and try different menu items.

    3.75/5 unfortunately. Highly recommended from a friend, but our delivery order experience was meh. The good: *Tofu Prik King - shrimp paste forward. *Shrimp Roll - big juicy shrimp. *Khao Knook Gapi (fried rice with shrimp paste, sweetened pork, chicken sausage) - very tasty, flavorful, pork and sausage were very soft and tender. Quite a uncommon dish I think? *Issan classic (platter of grilled chicken, papaya salad, larb moo) - the grilled chicken was great with fresh herb flavor larb was spicy yum. The Okayed: *Curry Puff *Chicken Satay *Mixed Vegetables The bad: - how can they mess up these two classic dish? *Pad Thai Boran - so bland... .. *Panang Curry - very watery and no flavor.

    This restaurant is a well kept secret of those who live in Carrol Gardens. A little old school space, with a rapid and super nice service and astonishing food. The appetizer platter is a must, and so the deep fried fish. Keeps being a place to check in every month. Don't miss it.

    This place came highly recommended by my friend who also heard the recommendation from two of her own friends so the word of mouth of how this restaurant is a must-go-to, is really phenomenal. Came here with my friend for the first time and was blown away by the excellent appetizer sampler. It's a perfect way to try out all the different appetizers to see which you like best-- the only problem was I loved all the appetizers and wanted more of each! I tried out their duck curry and enjoyed it so much. My friend ordered their pad thai but wasn't too impressed with it. Go with the duck curry, friends. Anyway, the interior is nice and cozy, albeit a bit tight on space, and their dining seats and table could use some upgrading as they creaked and seemed a bit old. Staff were welcoming and nice, and overall the atmosphere was super pleasant whether you're eating out with your girlfriends, or if you're on a date. I brought my new (at the time) boyfriend here for his birthday and he also enjoyed the food and experience and he wasn't too big on Thai food before coming here so that says something. If you do like Thai food then this is the best place to become a regular at or to save for special occasions. I think the prices here are fair and not too inflated for the portion sizes you receive. If you think you'll like it, you definitely will so come try them out for yourself, you won't be disappointed!

    This is a bustling little place, tho they do have seating outside. Don't be surprised if you come during peak time and you have to wait for a table. The dish that everyone orders is the Pad Thai, which comes wrapped in an omelet. Very good. We also got the Massaman curry which is my go-to dish and it didn't disappoint. The noise volume got loud depending upon how many groups were sitting and how close they were. At one point I could hear the couple next to us better than my dinner partner. Oh well. Small price to pay for a good Thai meal.

    Boran prides itself in serving authentic Thai food and is run by Thai staff. I can't be the judge of the former but the latter is definitely true. Regardless if Boran's food is authentic or not, the food seemed to lack minor components in the final execution. My family and I were seated immediately at a table for four on a Wednesday evening (no wait). We ordered one large tom yum soup, a mixed appetizer platter, khao soy kai, pad thai boran, and khao knook gapi boran. The best part of the meal was the appetizer platter with a variety of fried crab dumplings, curry puffs, chicken and beef satays served with different dipping sauces. The appetizers had a good balance of sweet and savory flavors, the fried appetizers are crispy, and the meat is tender. The rest of the food either was too salty or too sweet. The tom yum soup was too salty and too sour, the entrees were not salty at all. It's as if the kitchen at Boran misplaced the salt shaker when they served our entrees. While the seasoning of the food could use some work, the flavors were all there. Aside from the food, the service was friendly and the ambiance is cozy casual. For a quick meal, Boran is a fine choice. But I don't see myself coming back.

As soon as we arrived, we were escorted to a table. I've noticed that this restaurant seemed very authentic. They had dishes that I've never seen at other Thai spots. It was great. Texture was very smooth in your mouth. Surprisingly, it had a spicy kick (but nothing too intense). I personally decided to try KHAO PAD MUN NEUR. This is a pricey dish, but very filling! It was said to have 2 pepper spice level to it, but I personally didn't find it very spicy. The rib eye was cooked just the way I like it - medium well (still with some redness in the inner portion). The meat had a perfectly charred/grilled exterior, but very soft to chew. This meat was probably the best part of the dish. Only slight complaint is that the rice was very saucy (almost a bit too much for my preference). But overall, I did enjoy it and was able to finish it, but left super full! Overall, I think it was worth a try. Their service is great. The servers are super great of making sure that your water is always topped up. They explained the recommended way to eat certain dishes. They were able to answer any questions that we had.

Pad Kee Mao (aka Drunken Noodles), chicken $15.00 Stir-fried flat rice noodle, bamboo shoots, garlic, basil, fresh chili, onion, carrot, string bean, bell pepper, long hot chili The flat rice noodle quantity was sufficient, but minimal and there were too much onion, insufficient string bean, two paucity pieces of carrot. I dislike bamboo shoot which is not a standard ingredient for this particular entrée. I think the bamboo shoot tainted this entrée. I am a traditionalist conservative which bean sprouts is a good substitute variation for bamboo shoot vegetable including string bean. This entrée is my favorite default and as a caveat, if any Thai restaurant or cafe do not offer on their menu I refuse entry to patronize. This entrée enticed my interest and embedded the lunch meal menu for the reasonable price. I personally despise and do not consume spicy hot foods, but occasionally consume mild or very mild in the smallest measurement of the Scoville scale which I specifically requested, but received medium hot spicy. The waitress forewarned me the intense heat level on the Scoville scale as Thai cultural spicy with two or more bird's eye chilies for a high level of spiciness. The spiciness of chili peppers were, in my opinion, medium spicy. Despite the intense medium heat spiciness, the stir-fried noodles lacked flavor with, tender chicken, minimal vegetables, and Thai basil in a bland taste. I wish I chosen shrimp as the protein. Pad Kee Mao sustained my hunger pangs and ate my fill. When eating Thai intense heat spicy foods, I visualize to think of the TV segment "Niall Horan & James Corden Take On Hot Wings" on "The Late Late Show with James Corden" in March, 2020. High heat spicy foods! Thai ice tea, large $3.00 This was a delight and neutralized the heat spiciness because it contains milk. It was served chilled in a large highball glass. Samyan is a Thai cafe located in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, NYC and accessible via MTA NYC Transit C local train at Clinton-Washington subway station. This cafe is a independently owned and operated, thankfully. The waitress did check-in with me during my meal for attentive customer service. The atmospheric conditions were a simple small dine-in cafe. There were many paintings, portraits hanging on their walls of white subway tiles. Gold metallic metal chopsticks and fork are provided. If utensils are gold then the interior cafe should contain these "gaudy" feature extensive gold elements, including gilded moldings and furniture. Peony rose are very simply and made pretty table centerpiece decorations. Takeout menu and business cards are available for grabs. I did received my sales receipt. At the bottom of the sales receipt there is a suggested gratuity in intervals of 18%, 20% and 22% where customers do not have to perform math calculation. I paid $23.00 in cash as the waitress' informative knowledge of the ingredients and preparation of the heat level on the Scoville scale.

My partner was running late, and even though the place is clearly very popular right now, they still accommodated us with a table. The staff explained every unfamiliar dish we asked about, always with a smile. I usually avoid the standard NYC Thai restaurant lineup of pad thai + generic curry situations and look for places that feel more regional and authentic. The menu here had a bunch of dishes I didn't recognize, which immediately made me excited. They even have a spice guide though the icons don't necessarily mean increasing spice levels. As I understood it, different symbols represent different types of heat. Three chili emojis and three meteor emojis may be equally spicy, but they hit differently. They recommended not to order the pad krapow nuer, and honestly, fair enough. Instead, we got the chicken khao soi, which was far better than versions I've had elsewhere - deeply flavorful, spicy, rich with umami. My partner was crying. I, meanwhile, was at "this is perfect and I'm having a great time." One Huge chunk of chicken cooked exactly right. Mix everything thoroughly before eating. Then came the kua kling which arrived with another warning. That dish became my personal challenge to impress the server, and apparently I succeeded because now they've promised that next time they won't discourage me from ordering the nuer. They kept refilling cabbage and cucumber for us to cool down from the heat. The kua kling itself was incredible. That dry curry heat was everything. It builds slowly, then suddenly punches you in the face - but alongside all that spice is an insane amount of flavor. They also recommended to order a non-spicy side dish to have a balanced meal and spice level, but we skipped it because it would've been too much food. Honestly, this is the kind of place where going with at least four people is ideal so you can try more dishes and balance the spice levels. Spicy food, in case you didn't know, connotes authenticity. Call it suffering for beauty, in a culinary wrapper. Ugly Baby took this S&M theater to its logical conclusion in all regards: tuck it in an inaccessible corner of South Brooklyn; use tiny chairs and brusquely inform diners they have an hour start to finish at their table. The more inconvenient it was, the better. I held my applause after my single visit to Ugly Baby, which closed amidst wails and lamentation last year from people who liked rough treatment. But something drew me back to this reincarnation, started by the same people. Maybe, I thought, they'd found a way to bring us that magnetic authenticity, and hold the ball gags and chain flails? The answer is no. I should have known from the name alone: another mysterious two-word phrase (both of whose words again end in -y) that sounds like it could be an overly literal translation of some ineffable Thai concept. I should have known when it opened in the same godforsaken corner of ... what is that? Gowanus? I should have known from the protracted negotiations for a suitable table that followed when my husband, mom and I arrived punctually for our 5:30 reservation and were primly informed we'd be squeezing onto a two top, then were refused an obviously empty three-top ("it's reserved"....oh you mean by a party of three with a reservation like us?), and then grudgingly seated at a four-top, half of which was literally in the kitchen. I should have known after being apprised that "you have one hour at the table." I should have known when there were no appetizers or desserts, and only two vegetarian entrees. This is the same thing as before. We're so back, baby. The mushroom curry, with its single fire emoj, was nowhere near the spiciest thing on the menu, but gosh was it still spicy. How do they make food with such complex flavors that's still hot enough to have emanated from the bowels of hell? It has to be one of the best curries I've had. It's a talent, special even, but it could easily coexist without Hungry Thirsty's other downsides. But I think all those inconveniences and discomforts are the point. They serve to reinforce the specialness of the special parts, counterintuitively increasing your mental investment in internally extolling Hungry Thirsty's virtues. They are to each element what spice is to food: it hurts, and you're proud that it hurts. It all adds up to the second coming of Ugly Baby, and why wouldn't it? Enough people liked being slapped around; maybe they felt like they deserved it. You know if that's you or not.

I enjoyed the food and the event so much that I've returned and told others to go as well. What I like the most is that Chiangmai's expansive menu showcases aspects of Thai cuisine that you're probably not getting at your neighborhood spot. Many items are Northern Thai style dishes. I'd never had Khao Soi before coming here and I was blown away. The chiangmai sausage is also delicious. The roasted duck curry boasts deep flavor while also maintaining the crispiest duck skin. For appetizers, we started with the crispy salmon belly bites and the moo ping. Frying salmon is risky, but the fattiness of the belly keeps it from drying out. The moo ping is nicely grilled and served with a sweet sauce. You just can't go wrong ordering meat on a stick. As an entree, I tried the Gaeng Awm Nur, a soup-like beef dish served with a side of sticky rice. Our server had been really nice and welcoming, so I felt ok asking how I should eat my meal. She advised that I make a ball of some sticky rice with my hand, mash it a bit, and then dip it into the soup. Thai food achievement unlocked! Now I know what to do next time I'm served sticky rice. There's so much on the menu it can be hard to choose. This is encouragement to go with someone else who enjoys food so you can choose things to share! You won't be disappointed and in fact may find that your regular Thai spots could step up their game in comparison.
