This Boojum suffers from one of the problems of all Boojums - tables not being cleared/cleaned frequently enough.
If you get a meal in here, it's usually a good feed, but there are things that will get on your nerves. For example, why not have a board on the wall where the queue forms, saying
Here's how to order.
- Pick your wrapping (burrito, taco, bowl...)
- Pick your rice (Mexican or Lime)
- Pick your beans (pinto or black)
- Decide if you would like peppers and onions
e.g., "Can I get a burrito with Mexican rice, black beans, and peppers and onions, please?"
The number of times you'll stand and watch the following conversation
Staff: "What can I get for you?"
Customer: "Can I get a burrito, please?"
Staff: "Yeah, what rice would you like?"
Customer: "Can I get lime, please?"
Staff: "Yeah, what beans would you like?"
Customer: "Can I get pinto beans, please?"
Staff: "Yeah, any peppers and onions?"
You'll stand in a queue and watch this over and over again, and it all wastes time. Now, you might not think that the additional seconds it takes for this unnecessary conversation is a big deal, but when there are hundreds upon hundreds of people being served in a day, and when you are 28th in the queue, those conversations are a total waste of time, and a board such as the suggested one above would sort it out - when people are standing in the queue, bored, they'll read it. And the faster the queue moves, the less likely people are to walk out and go somewhere else because the queue is too long.
And why do I have to have onions and peppers? Why can't I have one and not the other? Can you imagine saying, "Can I get pulled pork, please?", and the response being, "Sorry, it's just pulled pork and chilli together - you can't have one or the other." Why are they mixed?
Speaking of mixed, you're probably as well not looking at the food when you order it. Due to the layout of the food station (where spatulas of food have to pass over other foods), and the rushed nature of the production line behind the counter, you'll often see hot chilli sauce streaked across the medium chilli; or the medium chilli dotted in the mild chilli; or bits of cheese in the sour cream.
All-in-all, though, not a bad feed! And if it's your first time getting a burrito, don't take the tinfoil off - you gradually peel it off as you eat, or it'll end up a mess. read more
