Tacos are soft by default, which I think makes good sense in terms of trying to hold them together when eating them. I'm happy enough about the food but after having to wait for weeks turning to months for this place to open, they could have given more consideration to the people-flow aspects of design and layout. If the place is busy, the queue obstructs the flow of people from counter to seating. Then anybody sitting by the window has to cut through the queue to access the waste bins. Surely there are better ways of doing this. The counter could have been operated in the opposite direction with the queue directed anticlockwise around the wall by a balustrade. Then anybody leaving the counter could access all seating areas and bins without crossing the queue or squeezing past it.

Seitan tacos with vegan cheese (so good, they are heavenly) have lately appeared as a special. In addition menu staples such as oyster mushroom, prickly pear cactus and fire-roasted pepper tacos and quesadillas, along with a wickedly delicious guacamole starter are the main vegetarian/ vegan fixtures. Cocktails are exquisite and the frozen margarita is quite possibly one of the best drinks on earth. Interior is relaxed, if a bit small/ cramped and I love the Mexican themed wall art and murals. My only criticism is that it's an inconvenience to have to go to the counter to collect and pay for your bill - especially awkward when with a group and you have to stand about trying to work out what everyone owes. As La Taqueria are a table service restaurant it would be much easier if a bill could be left to a table first to be looked at before payment. Not quite sure why they don't do this. Both the veggie soft and hard shell tacos are delicious, as is the sharing breadboard starter. Though I wasn't a fan of the veggie burrito - thought it lacked flavour. There's a fantastic outside area which is a suntrap on summer afternoons/ early evenings - lovely to relax in. Plus, El Chapo run a range of daily offers, eg Taco Tuesdays during which you can order a Taco dish and get a Frozen Margarita for only £1.00. They didn't bother covering the place with staff from the other four Boojums within a three-mile radius (what would there be, 100 staff between the other four?), they just closed. Or maybe all Boojums were randomly closed for a staff party, I don't know. Can you imagine if you went to do your food shopping and you got to the front door only to discover that they had, for no reason, decided to close for a staff party? It wouldn't happen because large food retailers don't view their customers with disdain. Maybe the attitude is, "Screw customers, they'll come back." I won't.
