Papa Browns was the restaurant of choice the day we hit Carrickfergus, mainly because the seaside town doesn't really offer a huge variety of eateries. I must say though, I was mightily impressed. Lunchtime had arrived, and with it growling stomachs. The three of us (brother, sister and I) descended upon this Papa Browns ready to devour a hefty midday meal. Or so we thought. Having ordered scampi (my brother), a Southern Fried chicken burger (my sister), and some Southern Fried chicken strips (myself) with the waitress who didn't require a pencil or paper (I was somewhat doubtful), we were well prepared for a good, solid lunch. What we got, however, were humongous portions of the aforementioned dishes, plus huge bowls of fries on the side. Mine also came with the more ginormous BBQ sauce dip I had ever seen, a delicious side salad and a titanic tub of coleslaw. Oh heavens. I wasn't going to be moving too far after this mega meal. The food was delicious, the BBQ sauce was exquisite, and none of were able to finish. Try as we might, it just wasn't happening. Had the menu had a lunchtime option (with smaller portions), I would have been much happier, seeing as I don't like good food going to waste. However, dinner time would be an excellent time to pop into Papa Browns, and the prices were all reasonable (£10.95) for the large servings. Don't be expecting to eat for quite a few days after, that's all I'm saying...

I really can't get enough of Papa Browns! The food here is fantastic and the prices are really great too. We often make this our port of call before heading over to the cinema and always have a great meal served by great staff. The menu is pretty big offering loads of things from steaks and fish to ribs salads and chicken. They really do cater for all! I always go for their steak sandwich served with the best shoestring onions I've ever had! The steak is always perfectly cooked and add on a side of mash and I'm in heaven. Of course we always leave room for dessert and the creme brulee is so so good, as is the apple pie...in case you're wondering. They always have offers on buckets of bees (oh yes) and we always drink too much before the movie resulting in several runs to the loo. But if you're looking for great food at great prices then look no further than Papa Browns! Nom, nom, nom...

Carrickfergus isn't somewhere that I'd associate with good food but that idea has been firmly knocked on the head by Papa Brown's. I had grilled chicken with a mushroom sauce with cheese and was most impressed by the tastiness of it all. The chicken was properly grilled with a nice barbecue singed flavour and the hand cut chips were perfect. By then not hungry enough for much else, I shared a bit of delicious pavlova. For some reason I decided to indulge in a Hot Chocolate Royale which comes with marshmallows, flake and whipped cream, after which I could hardly move! For a new build place Papa Brown's has got character - it's reclaimed brick on the outside with a great interior. There are alot of wine bottles lined up behind the bar - you mostly get Australian and Chilean wines, plus the usual other drinks. Staff were nice too. A good relaxed place and excellent, no-nonsense, hot, flavoursome food.

Just had the most delicious lunch here. I had the sizzling pepper chicken, have to say it was one of the nicest thing I have ever tasted. It was cooked to absolute perfection. The side salad was so fresh and tasty too. I had garlic cubed potatoes as my side which again were perfect. The restaurant was spacious and beautifully decorated with lovely high ceilings and booth style seating. Good range of beers, wines and drinks available.

Describes itself as a colonial style restaurant but to me it's an American style diner. in a great spot too just adjacent to the famous Carrickfergus Castle. Eat anytime of day and you can choose from steaks, chicken and ever popular burgers to enjoy with some tasty sides. I have downgraded their rating as I think their menu is a little limited and, at the same time a little on the pricey side. Don't be put off by my remarks though , on the plus side you get great surrounding and the food is very good

Love it here, come frequently enough. Food is always delicious and the staff are friendly. I usually have papas chili chicken with garlic diced potatoes-amazing! I have had the burgers, steak and their breakfasts as well and I'm never disappointed. This is usually where we head for pre-holiday breakfast and it sets us up for the journey!

If you want a great burger, or a yummy chicken dish with the best garlic potatoes, look no further!! Papa Browns is one of my favorite restaurants in Northern Ireland. Always fresh food, the same great taste anytime of the day, quick service even on a busiest Saturday night. You can have a walk through the harbor after dinner, lovely location in Carrickfergus. Try it if you are nearby!!

Each time I have been I've got something different and it's been just amazing. It's hard to choose, but I'd say my favourite so far was the Piri piri chicken quesadilla. Most of their mains come with two sides, and unusually for me, I struggled to finish this, but it was worth every bite! The braised Cajun rice and coleslaw were the perfect accompaniments. It's a very pleasant experience to sit in Josh Mac's, with great decor and really spacious and airy inside, with massive windows which are great for watching the world go by. I've always been seated quickly any time I have been there and the staff are friendly and efficient. The restaurant (and importantly the bathrooms!) are spotlessly clean. Definitely a must visit!

Whether it is a post night out fry up, pre-cinema dinner, or Sunday night meet up with friends for a hot chocolate and slice of cake, Springsteens meets all of our requirements with ease. The seating arrangements are pew-like booths, which allows for a comfortable relaxed envioronment where you can chat with friends and not feel like other patrons are listening in! The menu will suit people of all tastes, aside from the usual 'American Diner' type burgers, fries and shakes, there are options such as soups, club sandwiches, wraps, and my personal favourite, a number of Mexican options, such as Burritos and Chimichangas. Drinks wise, this is a licensed premises, and as such can purchase alcoholic beverages in addition to tea, coffee, and soft drinks. All of the food is reasonably priced, and the portions are huge, you will not go hungry after eating here! Last but not least, and the reason why I give this establishment the full five stars, is the service. The staff at Springsteens in Carrickfergus are always cheerful and helpful, facilitating any special additions or changes to our order without any fuss (I'm one of those annoying customers who always wants my order slightly different to how it is on the menu) The staff always get the balance just right, checking how the meal is shortly after serving, and noticing when drinks are running low and offering refills, but without being overly intrusive to our dining experience.

I hate it when restaurants do this, I can understand it for Christmas party bookings, but dislike when deposits are requested throughout the year. It would prevent me from returning with a large party in future. It's just a hassle trying to collect money from people you won't necessarily be seeing before an evening out. Alternatively one person has to cover the deposit before the meal, which is unfair and leaves them out of pocket until the night out. Other than this we had a good overall experience. Waiting staff were excellent and the menu is huge with a vast selection of dishes, even plenty of veggie options - burgers, pizzas, pastas etc. I ordered vegetarian fajitas which were served with a side of fries, 3 fajita pancakes, a large sizzling plate of mixed veg (mushrooms, peppers, onions, tomatoes) plus guacamole, sour cream and salsa. The guacamole and salsa weren't fresh, instead they seemed quite processed. But it was good food - not great - but filling, tasty and reasonable for the price. Our whole party enjoyed their meals. We also ordered dessert and the Banoffee Pie was absolutely gorgeous- though I did have dessert envy when I saw the Nutella Dough Balls some of the others ordered! Ginger, gin, beer and plenty of wine flowed. In total two courses, drinks and tips cost approximately £35 per person. A good night was had by all. This is a nice, casual, relaxed restaurant and I would return - but not with a large party as I dislike the insistence on a deposit and enforced service charge. Whilst I recognise the reasoning for these charges and appreciate they are becoming common in a lot of restaurants, I will primarily take my custom to establishments who don't insist on a deposit. I've had my fair share of memorable burgers from coast to coast in America, but just glancing at a picture of the beef shin burger transports me back across the pond to the Barking Dog. I remember the few days I spent in Belfast fondly and of the many memories, my meal at the Barking Dog was a definite highlight. In a rather quaint and charming neighborhood, I took a nice short stroll from my Airbnb and came across this gem of an establishment and decided I had to check it out. I had a nice beer to start, and it wasn't a Guinness because stouts aren't my thing, but whatever it was I remember it being excellent and local. Undoubtedly you could make this place a regular haunt and there is no shortage of drinks and food options to make this a go-to for a date, celebration, or a quick meal. The staff are welcoming, kind, and helpful and the general atmosphere is chill. The food for me was ethereal - a burger isn't just a burger here and what you get when you bite into the beef shin burger is a little slice of Heaven. Moist and tender are a given but the taste is just so divine with the caramelized onion, cheddar, and horseradish mayo melding into an union of perfection. It's hard not to describe one of the most memorable meals of my life in such hyperbole but the vivid recall I have of this particular place is uncanny and merits all the praise I can heap upon the fine folks that run the place. If timing had worked out, I would have eaten as meals here as I could have but I'll thank my lucky stars for at least giving me one opportunity to eat such a wonderful burger at such a wonderful eatery. He replied that he'd rather I didn't, so I said, ok, we'll do it your way this time, but we can do it my way next time, it's a good compromise. Once he'd served me my pint he said to me that it was my last one. I asked him why, and he said that he just didn't want to serve me any more. I then asked him if I was banned for good, and he refused to answer. After several attempts of trying to get an answer, he said that I wasn't barred for good. I tried to get a reason to why he wouldn't serve me any more drink, and he just replied that he didn't want to. I asked to speak to his manager, and he told me that he was allowing me to drink this pint, with the implication that if I caused trouble he wouldn't. I said that I didn't want the pint but did want to speak with his manager. He took my pint and emptied it. The manager, a short plump middle aged lady, with dark hair, came round from the other bar, and queried if I'd been barred (which I hadn't as I am only visiting newtownards from England to visit my mother who is in a nursing home). I then asked how I could make a complaint, to which she replied that I should write a letter. I asked if they had an email address, to which I was told that they did. I then asked 4 times what the email address was and received no reply. I was then told it was on your website. I feel that my treatment today has been very humiliating, for no good reason what so ever, and I am hoping for a satisfactory apology and retraining of your staff and management as this is well below proffessional standards.
