I think…read moreit took me about 2 years before I tried it, despite the fact that it's right on my doorstep. It's not like me! Since my first visit, I have been to Josh Mac's about 5 times so far, and they have been consistently fantastic. Josh Mac's offer a grill, American/fusion type menu, with loads of delicious dishes on offer to suit anyone's taste, such as burgers, pasta, chicken dishes, fish dishes, and a Veggie menu too. Each time I have been I've got something different and it's been just amazing. It's hard to choose, but I'd say my favourite so far was the Piri piri chicken quesadilla. Most of their mains come with two sides, and unusually for me, I struggled to finish this, but it was worth every bite! The braised Cajun rice and coleslaw were the perfect accompaniments. It's a very pleasant experience to sit in Josh Mac's, with great decor and really spacious and airy inside, with massive windows which are great for watching the world go by. I've always been seated quickly any time I have been there and the staff are friendly and efficient. The restaurant (and importantly the bathrooms!) are spotlessly clean. Definitely a must visit!

The interior is lovely and comfortable with high booth style seating which is very nice adds a touch of privacy which I like. They take reservations or you can just arrive. At the weekend you may have to queue but they have a waiting area which is OK.

Whether it is a post night out fry up, pre-cinema dinner, or Sunday night meet up with friends for a hot chocolate and slice of cake, Springsteens meets all of our requirements with ease. The style of the restaurant is that of an American diner - it is spacious and very well laid out. The seating arrangements are pew-like booths, which allows for a comfortable relaxed envioronment where you can chat with friends and not feel like other patrons are listening in! The menu will suit people of all tastes, aside from the usual 'American Diner' type burgers, fries and shakes, there are options such as soups, club sandwiches, wraps, and my personal favourite, a number of Mexican options, such as Burritos and Chimichangas. Drinks wise, this is a licensed premises, and as such can purchase alcoholic beverages in addition to tea, coffee, and soft drinks. All of the food is reasonably priced, and the portions are huge, you will not go hungry after eating here! Last but not least, and the reason why I give this establishment the full five stars, is the service. The staff at Springsteens in Carrickfergus are always cheerful and helpful, facilitating any special additions or changes to our order without any fuss (I'm one of those annoying customers who always wants my order slightly different to how it is on the menu) The staff always get the balance just right, checking how the meal is shortly after serving, and noticing when drinks are running low and offering refills, but without being overly intrusive to our dining experience.

Mouth watering diner style dishes are to be enjoyed with a beer or whatever you fancy. They even have thrown into the mix some local dishes as well; for example you get a great Ulster Fry any time of day so forget about the colesterol levels and go for it! Finish off with one of their hot beverages or something from their ice cream selection.

I hate it when restaurants do this, I can understand it for Christmas party bookings, but dislike when deposits are requested throughout the year. It would prevent me from returning with a large party in future. It's just a hassle trying to collect money from people you won't necessarily be seeing before an evening out. Alternatively one person has to cover the deposit before the meal, which is unfair and leaves them out of pocket until the night out. Other than this we had a good overall experience. Waiting staff were excellent and the menu is huge with a vast selection of dishes, even plenty of veggie options - burgers, pizzas, pastas etc. I ordered vegetarian fajitas which were served with a side of fries, 3 fajita pancakes, a large sizzling plate of mixed veg (mushrooms, peppers, onions, tomatoes) plus guacamole, sour cream and salsa. The guacamole and salsa weren't fresh, instead they seemed quite processed. But it was good food - not great - but filling, tasty and reasonable for the price. Our whole party enjoyed their meals. We also ordered dessert and the Banoffee Pie was absolutely gorgeous- though I did have dessert envy when I saw the Nutella Dough Balls some of the others ordered! Ginger, gin, beer and plenty of wine flowed. In total two courses, drinks and tips cost approximately £35 per person. A good night was had by all. This is a nice, casual, relaxed restaurant and I would return - but not with a large party as I dislike the insistence on a deposit and enforced service charge. Whilst I recognise the reasoning for these charges and appreciate they are becoming common in a lot of restaurants, I will primarily take my custom to establishments who don't insist on a deposit. A good, solid 3.5 stars from me...

I'd make one anyway, the downtown area can get busy. We were eating lightly, so ordered off the app menu. I ordered scallops, comes with a haddock and leek cream sauce. Having eaten lightly, we rewarded ourselves by order dessert, a buttermilk pancetta with quince a biscuit crumb. Another delicious hit. Fine place, highly recommended.

Although the place was quite fancy, and we were not, we were still treated very well and didn't feel out of place. The ambience was very chill with great music, super art, and efficient service. They have 1, 2, and 3 course meals with wonderful choices across the board. I was gunning for the 3 courses and fortunately the server said that they wait to take the dessert order because it is a lot of food. And it was! For the first course I ordered the mussels and fish cake, which was served in a velvety creamy sauce and surprisingly also came with a perfectly poached egg, which only added to the richness. This could've easily been doubled from 3 to six mussels and from 1 fish cake to two to make a main course, and I wish it was, because it was one of the most delicious seafood dishes I've had in a long time! For the second course I got the halibut with potato croquettes, served over a romesco sauce base with a little bit of cream sauce and some kale garnish. It was cooked perfectly, but after the first course, I wanted to be wowed again. It was tasty, but I like a spicier romesco sauce, and it could've been wonderfully balanced with the same cream sauce the mussels were served with. Very good dish, just not quite what I was looking for. My teenager got the roast beef, medium rare, topped with cloves of roasted garlic. It was served with mashed potato, a crusted mashed potato fritter, whole roasted carrot and parsnip or turnip, bits of kale and Yorkshire pudding. All were cooked perfectly and even the vegetables were gobbled down like candy, which is unusual for my kiddo. Although we were the first customers of the day, by the time we left most of the restaurant was full of happy diners, many of whom seemed to be regulars. I can see why. I imagine this is the kind of place where they get to know what you like and aim to make you happy :)

Dimmed with a vegetarian friends and on first glance the menu appeared to have no veggie options but after asking the waitress she let us know that there was separate menu for vegetarians and a decent selection. Maybe I've been watching too many American films... My boyfriend, his parents, his granda and I all descended upon Blue Chicago for my boyfriend's 21st birthday lunch. On a chilly Sunday in January, this place was absolutely packed! We were led to a small booth, which was far too tiny for all five of us, but were moved when another, larger booth had been vacated. This style of restaurant doesn't allow for big groups mind you, and even in the bigger booth, we were slightly cramped. However, the friendly waitresses (not a roller-skate in sight) were great, and the food was delicious. Chicken goujons, salad and steak were all had at our table...not a critical comment about any of them. The portions were huge, particularly for lunchtime, but I love getting my money's worth, so that was definitely a plus. Without a doubt, the best moment was when the 60s soft rock music was replaced by an incredibly cheesy version of 'Happy Birthday'. It did take me a few moments to realise that the huge cake coming towards us was for my boyfriend, who was slightly embarrassed by this stage. Obviously his parenst had arranged this with the restaurant, but it really was a lovely touch. Grabbing some cake, my boyfriend and I rolled out of Blue Chicago, our stomachs fit to burst. I'll definitely be doing that sometime again soon. Perhaps not the rolling though.
