Beautiful food with quite a few Vegetarian options on the menu e.g. baguettes, toasties, soups, porridge, bagels, quesadillas, blackeyed pea and lentil gumbo. Today (3/11/16) I choose a daily special of spicy pinto-bean quesadilla with Swiss cheese, dressed side salad and coleslaw. The food was immense; fresh, filling, delicious and moreish. Service was brisk and cost excellent at circa £5 for my meal plus a bottle of mineral water. Grapevine's major drawback is the size, it's a very small cafe with few seats. Ambience is relaxed and there's some seriously cool soul music playing in the background. I will definitely return, but only outside of the hectic lunchtime rush hour. read more

I've been out and about a lot this week and this is the third café/sandwich shop in have visited in the past 3 days. This puts me in a good position to critique it in relation to the others. The positives of Grapevine are there for all to see, it is in an excellent central location for both office workers and hungry shoppers. It also has brilliant outside seating. Smokers will feel welcome, as each table is equipped with an ashtray, which is actually something you don't see too often these days. Inside they have Special Boards literally crammed full of delicious lunch options. Whitebean Stew and Homemade bread caught my eye and it's definitely something I'm going to try on my next visit, provided it hasn't been scrubbed off the specials board. I love the seating set up inside; they have those big high benches with stools that face out and you can sit and watch the world go by while enjoying a coffee, bit of fruit or a hearty stew. Overall I think the Grapevine is an endearing wee café, it's got everything you want from a city center food shack - beaut grub and a relaxing set up, I'll be back that's for sure. read more

Working in town can really hit your pocket when it comes to lunch. Thank goodness for the Grapevine! This place is brilliant, and definately my go-to for a light lunch in town. They have a brilliant variety of baked potatoes, chillies, chowders and specials. Their soups are awesome, not to mention the sandwiches! Basically, once you've gone Grapevine you'll not need to look for anywhere else, and it's value equals the taste. Even if you have to work at your desk, everything can be done to take away. Just be careful timing your visit though, as from 1pm there is usually a queue out the door...and I know why! read more

Standard sandwich shop. Was hoping for more after seeing all the five stars. Was expecting a larger menu. Didn't see any choices for sandwiches or wraps. Just breakfast,meals,specials and paninis. Wick that they only accept cash. Staff are not very welcoming or friendly. The sandwich was not overly stuffed like I would have expected for all the stars it had got. My advice would be to go round the corner to doorsteps instead. You get way more for your money. read more

I had walked past The Grapevine a couple of times, and thought it looked (and smelled!) great, but after reading the reviews on here, decided I had to make a point of visiting, and we were NOT disappointed! There was so much delicious options on the menu we struggled to make our minds up what we wanted, as there were some fantastic options on offer. Having quite similar taste, in the end we went for the smoked chicken Quaesidillas. I don't have a suitable adjective in my vocabulary to do justice to how delicious they were! On top of this the prices were very reasonable and the staff were lovely. All this together had created a top quality establishment that Belfast was very much in need of. It's so nice to go somewhere like this and get an immediately positive response when you ask if there's anything gluten free - especially when it includes the more unusual menu items. Chicken and prawn gumbo was delicious - very generous, filling portion, with gluten free bread provided too. Prices were very decent, staff attentive, and lots of choice on the menu. The whole street has a kind of hidden alley vibe to it and it seemed to get quite busy with its regulars while I was there. It's not a place you'd wander past accidentally, but it's worth setting out to find. read more

Grapevine is now my favourite quick lunch eaterie of all I've tried in Belfast. The chicken and prawn gumbo there was delicious and I'll never forget how much better I felt for having eaten it.I I was torn between that and the black eye bean and lentil one but I'll be back for that and the other chillis, chowder and stews on the glorious menu. I just discovered this place a week ago when myself and a friend were pottering about looking for a place to eat. We were in a bit of a sandwich frame of mind and were most impressed when we spotted Grapevine. The name makes it sound more like a classy offie but the name of their game is 'food with soul' apparently. The small café had a great selection of creole/Cajun type stuff from blackened chicken down to gumbos and the like. The special of the day was a chicken and prawn gumbo so hoping for a slice of Southern hospitality we both went for that. My friend had never had gumbo before so I described it as a 'kind've paella', how very enlightening of me. Regardless of my ropey descriptions the food was spot on and I thought the staff were really friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. It's a pity this isn't located in a more noticeable slot as I can imagine a lot of people really getting into their menu. Hopefully this may happen via word of mouth and the 'power of Yelp'. Grapevine is a great little place for lunch in the characterful Pottingers entry. Full of people at lunchtime, and a healthy queue for food to take away, but the turnover is pretty quick so waiting for a seat is never that big a deal. The sign on the door which says 'food with soul' says a lot really - it's tasty-well-put-together- melty- cheesy- saucy-delicious. And it's not expensive - most baguettes, soups, gumbos, baked potatoes etc are £3-4, specials are a bit more, and a cup of tea costs a quid. The honey pork sausage baguette and the tuna cheese melt are winners for me, while my lunching partner can't tear herself away from the chicken with peppered sauce. All of which come with a nicely dressed salad coleslaw so you're not overwhelmed by the crunchiness of the really fresh baguette. Great spot. read more

Belfast has needed Grapevine! When my friend suggested we meet at Inn Shops for lunch I was expecting to be treated to a gravy chip (classy to the chaisse.) I could not believe my eyes when I read the menu in grapevine. What appeared to be a standard sandwich and soup outlet was offering me gumbo...pulled pork...chilli. Tucked away on one of 'The Entries', Belfast's oldest (and narrowest) thoroughfares, it's easy to miss this unassuming café. It is however, ideally situated on these streets that gave birth to the city, a rare beacon of hearty sustenance for a city centre workforce let down by complacent chainstore delis. Rarer still is a vegetarian menu on a par with and often exceeding it's carnivore choices. Whilst still serving up the standard sambos, toasties and salads, it's real appeal is the truly excellent bowls of chilli, gumbo, chowder and stew, augmented by a tempting specials board that will have you returning. My only criticism is that it would be nice to see some fresh juices to match the food instead of the uninspiring bottles in the fridge.The styling is simple, with as much seating as it's modest footprint can handle and the recent addition of outdoor seating reason enough to take an early summer lunch hour and grab these prized spots. Add to all this the fact that you're hard pushed to break £4 for most fare and you have the standard by which all lunches will now be judged. read more

This is the hippest little coffee and sandwich place in Belfast. Their chef has spent time abroad, and has picked up some nice recipes like American chili and gumbo along with the usual Irish favorites like sausage rolls. They also have some nice offerings for the vegetarian-minded. The coffee is quite good, and the servers are both extremely friendly and personable. I didn't stay long enough in Belfast to try their breakfast, but I would love to come back one day and give it a whirl. read more

Amazing spot. I'm from the states and the chef there had been to a lot of the cities and had taken a little drone everywhere. He has a super funk fusion thing going and the prices are simply easy going. Both he and his wife work there and they and the rest of their staff could not be nicer, a complete gem! read more
