Attended an event here and had an amazing evening. The venue itself was great, I had been to this place for lunch when it was Maze. I was impressed then and was impressed last night. I had some tapas. We had some Lamb, Paella & Prawns. The food was good and came really quickly. We also had a trio of deserts. The lime cheese cake was the nicest. We also had some cocktails and I have to say they were gorgeous. The atmosphere for the restaurant is really relaxed. The staff where super helpful and nice. Can't fault the service at all. Price wise it's reasonable for tapas so you can choose to spend what you like. There is a full bar also so be sure to indulge. I'll definitely be back to Solo sometime soon. Check this place out

Last week I tried out a new restaurant which opened up in Belfast city centre in December. Solo Kitchen and Bar is based in Wellington Place at the former Wimpy and Carlton Bar. The restaurant seats 40 in the tapas area and 80 in the casual dining area which a mixture of Asian and European food. On Thursday my mum and I headed into town for a bite to a eat for lunch. The lunch menu is served Monday-Saturday between 12pm-2.30pm and prices start at £4 (for the soup of the day with wheaten bread) up to £10 (such as the steak sandwich.) I decided to go for my old favourite, salt and chilli chicken, while my mum opted for the seafood linguine. We also choose a side of Cajun spiced fries to share. The salt and chilli chicken costs £5 for the small portion and £8 for the larger potion and comes with naan bread, Asian slaw and chilli and lime aioli. I was extremely impressed by the amount of chicken and the brilliant portion size matched the brilliant taste. The chicken strips were crispy, flavoursome and spicy, without being too dry. It was completely 'more-ish' and I would definitely order it again. Equally, my mum raved about her linguine and remarked that the portion size was impressive. The pasta was served with mixed seafood including prawns and mussels (a lot, may I add), garlic, fresh chillies, cherry tomatoes and a white wine cream sauce. It also came with garlic bread. We didn't have time for dessert, but I would loved to have tried the puddings which include chocolate fudge cake, orange panna cotta and tiramisu. I didn't know much about Solo so might not have necessarily tried it any time soon, but I'm so glad I've found this little gem!

Pretty cool restaurant! I had the privilege of attending a secret supper event here and was astonished at the fact I was never aware of this place before. I visited a few days later with my fiancé, it was a Saturday night and the place was crazy busy. But this never impacted on the high quality service or the great food solo had to offer. I feel it's a little bit pricey for the food and drink e.g a fiver for a pint (not in my day) but would definitely call back or recommend to anyone looking a nice meal or a few nice tapas! With drinks of course....

    Thanks for the invite!

I visited Solo tonight with the Yelp Secret Supper - this was my first visit to the restaurant and I was thoroughly impressed. The interior of the restaurant is clean, modern, well laid out, and most importantly, comfortable! We were shown to our table, and given a drink, and after a very short wait, our food was brought out. The first course was a trio of meals: Paella, Chorizo and prawn toast, and beef salad. There was a generous amount of each to allow me to get a real taste of the food, and they were all delicious, particularly the prawn and chorizo! Once we had finished this, the waiter provided us with 'seconds' of the Paella, which of course I accepted! Next, was a trio of desserts; we got a lemon cheesecake, a kind of chocolate truffle dessert, and a mini brownie. The brownie and cheesecake were beautiful, hoever the truffle was slightly rich. Still ate it though! ;) On top of this, the service was fantastic, really personable and knowledgeable staff and a real credit to the business. Thanks for a lovely night guys!

    Yelp secret supper underway!

Attended a Yelp event here last night and have to say the food was outstanding! We're given a sample plate of their tapas...unreal! Plate included lamb, paella and prawns on ciabatta...sounds simple but the flavours were beautiful, well thought out and delicious! Were also given dessert...a little chocolate brownie type, a shot glass with choc, cream, nuts (all the good stuff) and a line cheesecake...this was HEAVENLY!!! Seriously I'd go back just for that! *droooooool!* Had a few cocktails...made to perfection...luscious and pretty to look at too lol!!! The staff were very attentive, friendly and couldn't do enough for us! The boss lady was so welcoming, spoke to us individually and as a group, getting out feedback and generally being a decent sort! The decor it's lovely..funky lighting, little booths for smaller groups, modern furnishings and hand towels in the bathrooms...I know that sounds so silly an unimportant..but it def adds a touch of luxury instead of using paper towels (which you can do if you so wish ) All in all had a fab experience...and absolutely can't wait to get back!

Some of the best Indian food I've ever had and I'm a native New Yorker! I was very impressed by the traditional curry with vindaloo spice level

I'd not eaten in Solo (formally maze) before so was eager to try new city centre venture. The staff were very friendly and attentive the entire night. The decor is quite simple with booths for a more private dining experience. There is a more casual seated area at front close to bar if you're just having tapas style nibbles. We had drinks to start(sangria) which was lovely and sweet. Food followed shortly, lovely marinated lamb, seafood paella and prawn/chorizo on toasted breads in great sauce. All dished were very rich and quite tasty. I would recommend the restaurant to most people as it has a varied menu if not all your party is into Indian or Spanish style dishes. We had a dessert trio, chocolate brownie which was dense and rich. Chocolate moouse with cream and fruit, again rich and not too sweet with cream. Lastly was a delicious cheesecake, really good sharp flavour mixed with crumbly base. The cocktails are generous in size and they don't seem to skimp on spirits. Lots of cocktails are just sugar and juice. All in all the new venture seems to be getting the service and food right, hope it gets the customers to keep it going.

Launch night tapas dinner. Absolutely bloody marvellous!

The brand new Solo has hit the ground running. I have been twice since it opened a few weeks ago. One for the Yelp event, and then the official opening night. It is seriously good tapas food - the salted chilli chicken is incredible. The deserts - not so much. Still decent. The portions are very good, staff are great and it's a nice location, beside the City Hall. Definitely worth checking out!

Cocktails, Singapore sling and a strawberry daiquiri, they taste great :)

The dining area is very chic with lots of sleek lines. Very elegant but modern style. Loved all the tableware as well - everything seemed earthy and hand thrown. Our favorites of the night were hands down the duck and truffle fried rice - we all fought for this dish toward the end. It was one of the most unctuous bites of food that I've ever had. The fried rice was PERFECT - each grain of rice was coated in beautiful fat and was the homiest and warmest kind of dish. Would come back for this alone. I highly recommend coming to YuGo, especially if you have a large group and want to try a variety of dishes. All the flavors and cook were spot on, and we really enjoyed our time. Thank you YuGo!

We sampled the fried dumplings, the wok fried green beans (YUM), truffle duck fried rice, and yellowtail nigiri. The yellowtail nigiri was insanely good. It didn't specify on the menu that it would be anything different than traditional nigiri, but it did have a non traditional sauce on it... and WOW it worked. The duck fried rice was delightful, but a bit too truffle forward (for us) to the point where it was too rich to eat much of. The 4 star review is purely because of the ambiance. The lighting is crazy. It's super dark in there, but the lights over the tables are like spotlights. It felt like we were on display to the other patrons. Additionally, the music is quite loud. Otherwise, food was fantastic and the service was also great! Highly recommend if you can exist in that sort of environment. Really cool concept very well executed.

While the Tofu Saag Main consisted of sauce which was flavourful, the tofu itself was soft, gelatinous and poorly prepared. I cannot understand why a restaurant would bother serving tofu if it's not going to do it properly. Tofu should be crispy, firm, well-pressed and marinated - this tofu possessed none of these qualities. Indeed it was a soft tofu more suited to making desserts rather than a firm tofu which would be better suited to such a main dish. Pluses included tasty vegan naan bread, a dedicated vegan/ vegetarian menu, excellent service from two attentive waitresses and a beautiful restaurant interior. Food in Soul is not cheap, so it should be of better quality and it could be with a few small tweaks.

Good for the soul!…read more That's their motto and I couldn't agree more, let me tell you a wee story... It was my pals birthday and I said I'd meet him for lunch and as he works on the Dublin road that seemed the logical place to have lunch, especially as we both only had an hour to spare. I have to admit that initially we planned to go to Kitch but unfortunately the door was still locked when we approached. I suggested Souls as I had seen it when passing by and had also seen it pop up on my trusty Yelp app. To be perfectly honest I wasn't too hopeful, not because it didn't look great but because I thought it was more of a dinner destination that a lunch spot. Let's start with the decor, it's light bright and modernly furnished - a really comfortable environment without being overly formal - just what you want for a lunch time destination. We were presented with lunch menus when we entered. the options were good although they were definitely a little more expensive in comparison to other lunch menus I've seen. I ordered the Chicken Tikka wrap! When it came I was shocked at the presentation, they made what could have been a simple wrap in to a work of art, the salad sat in a lettuce leaf, the sauce was smeared on the plate michelin style and the wrap was cut in half exposing the tender chicken. The wrap was actually a gluten free naan bread - sensational is the only word I can use to describe it. The wrap had a spicy kick but it wasn't overbearing. Overall the food was incredible, a really great lunch. I didn't feel too full and it was pretty healthy. Really top class food. The other thing to note was the speed of the food (lunch crowd take note) We ordered at 12:15 and our food was with us by 12:35! The staff were great too - granted there was only two of us in the restaurant but they were attentive and eager to help! The whole experience was fantastic - it won't be long until I'm back!

It is very loud, both from people talking and then with music once that started. This is more of a vibe place than a good food place. Misoshiru has too much miso. The tuna was oddly sweet and didn't have firmness. The hamachi was spot on though, not sure why the other two were misses. The signature dish is fried monkfish in something similar to sweet and sour sauce, honestly not that impressed. My favorite was the aloo tikki, which was nicely spiced--in general, however, most of the dishes on the thali were all toned down in spices to fit a more Anglo-Indian flavor palate.
