It is very loud, both from people talking and then with music once that started. This is more of a vibe place than a good food place. Misoshiru has too much miso. The mackerel was a bit disappointing, the vinegar flavoring is light and it has that thawed from frozen texture. The rice is good, much better than I typically see stateside. The tuna was oddly sweet and didn't have firmness. The hamachi was spot on though, not sure why the other two were misses. The signature dish is fried monkfish in something similar to sweet and sour sauce, honestly not that impressed. Cheesecake is not as dense as American cheesecake and not fluffy like a soufflé, I think it was a good middle ground. Not too sweet.

The food was simply amazing and arranged like a work of art! We were quite a big group and the food arrived at the same time. The menu is quite varied - from more traditional Japanese style dishes to quite modern cuisine - I for one had a meal called 'Mad crab' which was a selection of seafood with a delicious cheese sauce and poached oak Choi with oyster sauce. The service was very attentive.

I've been here a few times recently to take way. It has an upstairs sit in but I've not yet been…read more What I find really good about this place is that the food is always tasty, it is usually made to your order, as you wait, and this time for me it was 3 choices: goma ae, 6 maki rolls (tofu) and a temaki hand roll filled with spicy salmon and vegetables (£10.90). The maki and temaki come with kikkoman soy sauce sachets, pickled ginger and a generous splodge of wasabi. The goma ae is always superb tasting with white miso and sesame oil enhancing the taste. The tofu is a small piece served cold but has been pre fried so it looks like and has a texture like pieces of omelette. The salmon in the hand-held roll is chunky and it too is delicious. The fact is that here you can get really tasty food and just along the street you can go to grim take out only Yangtze, for very poor food that sits in Bain Maries for certainly over an hour, yet prices are fairly comparable. This place has a very small ground floor area with a few steps down to go in; you couldn't lie a phone box horizontal inside, length or width wise, so once you pay on order (cash only) the lady serving ushers you out to the street to wait with undue haste. The sort of shove of 'there's a fire' so what's keeping you. She seemed not to realise that having had to go to my bag for cash to suit their convenience I had to take some time to put my cash away again. Rally worth trying as long as you don't mind a gentle nudge on to the street, which I found funny on a summer day. I'd imagine winter I might have a different view.

The tofu was jellylike and bland with a slimy batter. Mushy sticky rice, a couple of tasteless vegetable Spring rolls and a handful of bland salad topped with salad cream completed the box. Even lashings of soy and sweet chilli sauce didn't help much. Sadly it really wasn't good and I will not return. Extremely disappointing poor quality food and definitely not worth the £7.50 I paid.

There's nothing better than feeling like an adventurer in your own city. This is how I felt this…read moreevening when I visited Cafe Arirang for the first time to try their Korean cuisine. It's nothing fancy to look at and Arirang could probably do with a bit of a facelift in terms of interior decor. A coat of paint would brighten this cafe up. However, visual appearance is the only thing I can fault this eatery on and such things never bother me, especially as the food was delicious, fresh, colourful and filling. Wandering in off the street and never having tried Korean food before I didn't have a clue what to choose off the menu. There are Belfast favourites such as traditional fry ups, breakfasts and sandwiches available but I don't see the point in visiting a Korean cafe just to eat such food. So I had a look at the main Korean menu and the helpful Gentleman behind the counter assisted me by directing me to the Vegetarian options. On his recommendation I ordered Bibimbap a dish of various vegetables, boiled rice, soya, sesame oil and fried egg served sizzling in a hot stone bowl. Along with it on the side was a little bowl of kimchi and a bowl of spicy sauce. My server advised me to break the egg up, stir it through the ingredients in the bowl and add kimchi and sauce as I wished. It was DELICIOUS. I'm raring to get back to eat more Bibimbap and to try other Korean dishes. Would highly recommend Cafe Arirang as a lovely change from the norm and an unpretentious little spot which serves great food.

I found myself in Cafe Arirang one evening; I'd been perusing the menu and before I knew it, I found myself inside, ordering something called 'bulgogi' - I even had a stab at pronouncing it but competely mucked it up. It has two hard-pronounced Gs, should you ever go in. What I got from the friendly Korean chap was a cracking dish of spicy pork in a tomato and red pepper sauce and lovely fluffy rice with tons of veg, for not much more than a fiver. I was sufficiently interested to read more about Korean cuisine and their culture. It turns out that bulgogi barbecue restaurants are popular in South Korea, and apparantly Arirang is an ancient word with no real modern translation, but it pertains to a folk song. Interesting, no? Arirang also offers stuff like coffee, sodas, Ulster Frys, sausage rolls. I hope that the friendly Korean owner hasn't been forced into these options in order to stay afloat... Maybe he really does have a passion for fried soda bread, who knows? But come on, people. Try something new. Go to Cafe Arirang, point at something you can barely pronounce on the menu, and enjoy. What's the worst that can happen? I'll be trying something called Kimchi in a couple of days time.

It's just about 2 stars, chiefly because the food was mostly served cold. I mean it should be totally perfect as the food portion was reasonable for the price paid, and the ingredients were mostly excellent. Imagine serving crap, cold food from top notch ingredients and thinking it's acceptable. The oriental place right next door sells cheap food, cheaply and it had a queue of not fussy customers, yet I was only one of two customers who bought here the whole time I was dining. The king prawns (3) were great quality and the tempura batter was light, properly seasoned, crisp and free from oil. They should have been cooked to order, like all fish. The rice and sushi on the side too were darn good quality as was the pickled ginger and wasabi. I chose fried rice so it was well laced with fried, whisked egg but, like the tempura prawns, both were far too cold to be great tasting. The price also included a vegetable spring roll that, despite being burnt on cooking (see photo) was also stone cold and pretty much devoid of filling. I'll not return, but as a tip, if you go and you intend ordering hot food, be sure to say that you do expect your food to be hot. There's a recession on the way and if this is the standard they aspire to it'll all end in tears.

The dining area is very chic with lots of sleek lines. Very elegant but modern style. Loved all the tableware as well - everything seemed earthy and hand thrown. Our favorites of the night were hands down the duck and truffle fried rice - we all fought for this dish toward the end. It was one of the most unctuous bites of food that I've ever had. The fried rice was PERFECT - each grain of rice was coated in beautiful fat and was the homiest and warmest kind of dish. Would come back for this alone. I highly recommend coming to YuGo, especially if you have a large group and want to try a variety of dishes. All the flavors and cook were spot on, and we really enjoyed our time. Thank you YuGo!

They are very small portions so they recommend 2-3 per person. We also got the chef's sushi selection and it was so yummy, the fish was so fresh! I was afraid I wouldn't be full but after the meal I was perfectly full. The whole vibe of the restaurant was also great! Busy but not overwhelming and beautiful plates and presentation of the food! While the Tofu Saag Main consisted of sauce which was flavourful, the tofu itself was soft, gelatinous and poorly prepared. I cannot understand why a restaurant would bother serving tofu if it's not going to do it properly. Tofu should be crispy, firm, well-pressed and marinated - this tofu possessed none of these qualities. Indeed it was a soft tofu more suited to making desserts rather than a firm tofu which would be better suited to such a main dish. Pluses included tasty vegan naan bread, a dedicated vegan/ vegetarian menu, excellent service from two attentive waitresses and a beautiful restaurant interior. Food in Soul is not cheap, so it should be of better quality and it could be with a few small tweaks.

Good for the soul!…read more That's their motto and I couldn't agree more, let me tell you a wee story... It was my pals birthday and I said I'd meet him for lunch and as he works on the Dublin road that seemed the logical place to have lunch, especially as we both only had an hour to spare. I have to admit that initially we planned to go to Kitch but unfortunately the door was still locked when we approached. I suggested Souls as I had seen it when passing by and had also seen it pop up on my trusty Yelp app. To be perfectly honest I wasn't too hopeful, not because it didn't look great but because I thought it was more of a dinner destination that a lunch spot. Let's start with the decor, it's light bright and modernly furnished - a really comfortable environment without being overly formal - just what you want for a lunch time destination. We were presented with lunch menus when we entered. the options were good although they were definitely a little more expensive in comparison to other lunch menus I've seen. I ordered the Chicken Tikka wrap! When it came I was shocked at the presentation, they made what could have been a simple wrap in to a work of art, the salad sat in a lettuce leaf, the sauce was smeared on the plate michelin style and the wrap was cut in half exposing the tender chicken. The wrap was actually a gluten free naan bread - sensational is the only word I can use to describe it. The wrap had a spicy kick but it wasn't overbearing. Overall the food was incredible, a really great lunch. I didn't feel too full and it was pretty healthy. Really top class food. The other thing to note was the speed of the food (lunch crowd take note) We ordered at 12:15 and our food was with us by 12:35! The staff were great too - granted there was only two of us in the restaurant but they were attentive and eager to help! The whole experience was fantastic - it won't be long until I'm back!
