Our selection for the evening...will be back soon
Clare P.

Popped in tonight on a whim. Got seated right away and the staff were lovely. We were offered the choice of sitting at the sushi bar in the middle or a table. Decided a table would be best or we might still be sitting there. We decided on avocado and soft shell crab rolls. Rainbow rolls which had spicy salmon, cucumber and assorted seafood. Tri colour rolls which were king prawn and eel california rolls. All consisted of six pieces served with wasabi, pickled ginger and soy sauce. Last but not least we chose the chicken yakitori skewers served in a sticky glaze. Everything we had picked was of outstanding quality. I must say I found it better quality than zen and I love that place too. I'm not great with chopsticks, I got a quick lesson on how to use them but gave in pretty quickly as I was hungry. Definitly a must if you like sushi or sashimi. Can't wait to go back! The picture may not look like very much but it really fills you up.

Decent place. Mainly for sushi. Think that's where this place comes into its own. We opted not for the sushi. My chicken in ginger and cashew nuts was lovely. The suave was not heavy or stick. Udon noodles where also nice. Dumpling for starters was moist and had good flavour. Good size portion. Prices are on the expensive side. My main was £10.50 or so and didn't include a side. My mum and sister had fried chicken to start. Wasn't very impressive. Good service. Authentic decor. Seats are quite low for the tables. Would like to try the sushi to see if it's the thing that brings people back here.

Been here a few times and every time is great, food is great, service is great and as Belfast prices go, pretty great. This time we where here for a birthday party and had s nice big table upstairs for a bit of privacy and with the company I was in, it was maybe a bit of peace for the other diners. We had a group of 8 and a 3 year old. I know it's not the done thing but we usually bring food for our wee fella and this restaurant were brilliant, not only where they understanding but they even provided a plate and fork for him. We had two servers dressed in what appeared to be traditional Chinese/Japanese dress. They served us all night, clearing the table and making sure our glasses where never empty. The menu is quite big but explains itself quite well, breaking down the different types of sushi and other appetisers even explaining that they can be eaten as a snack, starter or part of the whole meal. The menu then has some Chinese dishes and Japanese dishes and the servers where more than glad to help with suggestions and explaining some dishes. We ordered plenty and the whole thing ended up on the massive Lazy Susan(hope this is right) in the table. A great restaurant for a meal for two, bigger party's or just a quick snack. Quick note they do have the conveyor belt with the sushi and other dishes moving around, we never got to try but with a super experience we now have a great reason( along with everything else) to head back.

I'm not a huge Japanese food fan, but from time to time I like a bit of sushi in my belly. That is my girlfriends influence I think because she simply can't get enough of the stuff. Because of that I am a bit of a snob when it comes to sushi and kinda hate the places that you pick the stuff off the conveyor belt. My lady says that they shouldn't do that because it doesn't keep the sushi fresh and that really put me off. The service and prices here are both pretty good. You will be able to pick up a decent bite to eat for about £10 which is pretty good for how much you'll get. Also, the staff are really dead on and friendly and always able to help if you have any problems with the food you're not quite used to. If you have the cash you might as well go to Zen to be honest.

Tastes as good as it looks....

What a fantastic Japanese restaurant. Food was outstanding & the staff were just lovely. Nice surroundings too & the menu choices were many . I would highly recommend this little gem , you will not be disappointed.

What I love about Sakura is that they not only serve excellent sushi, but offer a great variety of Japanese food too. As not all my friends are sushi lovers like myself, this still makes a great place for a grand night out. The last time I was here we were a group of 12 and had one big table upstairs. With such a big group of people it a can be tricky at times to get all orders on the table at once, this was definitely not the case at Sakura. The staff did a brilliant job as the timing of all our starters, mains and deserts arrived couldn't have been better, nor did we have to wait long to have our glasses topped up. The food looked and tasted amazing and with a selection of sushi, seafood, duck, beef and chicken served in a variety of Japanese sauces, anyone should be able to have the most enjoyable evening here. They offer set menus at £15.00 or £20.00 per person, so it doesn't need to break the bank either.

Birthday bashes as standard.

Such a great restaurant. An incredibly diverse menu and at a great price. Japanese dumplings are a given get them every starter. Currently working through their mains. They're all amazing!

Never been here before but had my first experience today. Had an authentic feel to the restaurant and the food was lovely. Could have spent all day there tasting and enjoying a few beers but unfortunately work took priority! If you get a chance and like sushi take a few hours and enjoy yourself.

Some of the sushi is ok. There is sugar in things there should not be sugar in. Mediocre overall, I'm afraid. Perfectly nice service.

It is very loud, both from people talking and then with music once that started. This is more of a vibe place than a good food place. Misoshiru has too much miso. The mackerel was a bit disappointing, the vinegar flavoring is light and it has that thawed from frozen texture. The rice is good, much better than I typically see stateside. The tuna was oddly sweet and didn't have firmness. The hamachi was spot on though, not sure why the other two were misses. The signature dish is fried monkfish in something similar to sweet and sour sauce, honestly not that impressed. Cheesecake is not as dense as American cheesecake and not fluffy like a soufflé, I think it was a good middle ground. Not too sweet.

The service was very attentive.

"Would you like to adopt?"... Nah I'm only messing. I was actually asked "Is this as good as Zen?" and then everything came into focus. The place simply isn't as good as Zen. Zen is arguably the finest eatery in Belfast, if not certainly one of the finest. Ginger Tree has a similar atmosphere, similar menu, similar style. The dining area is very chic with lots of sleek lines. Very elegant but modern style. Loved all the tableware as well - everything seemed earthy and hand thrown. The fried rice was PERFECT - each grain of rice was coated in beautiful fat and was the homiest and warmest kind of dish. Would come back for this alone. The duck fried rice was delightful, but a bit too truffle forward (for us) to the point where it was too rich to eat much of. The 4 star review is purely because of the ambiance. The maki and temaki come with kikkoman soy sauce sachets, pickled ginger and a generous splodge of wasabi. The goma ae is always superb tasting with white miso and sesame oil enhancing the taste. The tofu is a small piece served cold but has been pre fried so it looks like and has a texture like pieces of omelette. The salmon in the hand-held roll is chunky and it too is delicious. The fact is that here you can get really tasty food and just along the street you can go to grim take out only Yangtze, for very poor food that sits in Bain Maries for certainly over an hour, yet prices are fairly comparable. This place has a very small ground floor area with a few steps down to go in; you couldn't lie a phone box horizontal inside, length or width wise, so once you pay on order (cash only) the lady serving ushers you out to the street to wait with undue haste. The sort of shove of 'there's a fire' so what's keeping you. She seemed not to realise that having had to go to my bag for cash to suit their convenience I had to take some time to put my cash away again. While the Tofu Saag Main consisted of sauce which was flavourful, the tofu itself was soft, gelatinous and poorly prepared. Tofu should be crispy, firm, well-pressed and marinated - this tofu possessed none of these qualities. Indeed it was a soft tofu more suited to making desserts rather than a firm tofu which would be better suited to such a main dish. Pluses included tasty vegan naan bread, a dedicated vegan/ vegetarian menu, excellent service from two attentive waitresses and a beautiful restaurant interior. Food in Soul is not cheap, so it should be of better quality and it could be with a few small tweaks.

Good for the soul!…read more That's their motto and I couldn't agree more, let me tell you a wee story... It was my pals birthday and I said I'd meet him for lunch and as he works on the Dublin road that seemed the logical place to have lunch, especially as we both only had an hour to spare. I have to admit that initially we planned to go to Kitch but unfortunately the door was still locked when we approached. I suggested Souls as I had seen it when passing by and had also seen it pop up on my trusty Yelp app. To be perfectly honest I wasn't too hopeful, not because it didn't look great but because I thought it was more of a dinner destination that a lunch spot. Let's start with the decor, it's light bright and modernly furnished - a really comfortable environment without being overly formal - just what you want for a lunch time destination. We were presented with lunch menus when we entered. the options were good although they were definitely a little more expensive in comparison to other lunch menus I've seen. I ordered the Chicken Tikka wrap! When it came I was shocked at the presentation, they made what could have been a simple wrap in to a work of art, the salad sat in a lettuce leaf, the sauce was smeared on the plate michelin style and the wrap was cut in half exposing the tender chicken. The wrap was actually a gluten free naan bread - sensational is the only word I can use to describe it. The wrap had a spicy kick but it wasn't overbearing. Overall the food was incredible, a really great lunch. I didn't feel too full and it was pretty healthy. Really top class food. The other thing to note was the speed of the food (lunch crowd take note) We ordered at 12:15 and our food was with us by 12:35! The staff were great too - granted there was only two of us in the restaurant but they were attentive and eager to help! The whole experience was fantastic - it won't be long until I'm back!
