We had reservations for our entire trip but tonight and we were struggling to find a spot to eat quickly. We finally walked up to wagamama and were seated pretty quickly. I have a silly ginger allergy and they were very accommodating and double checked multiple times with their chefs to ensure what I got did not have ginger. I settled on the shrimp Thai pa and it was delicious with a little heat. We also got gyzo and edamame as a starter. The two other adults with me got various ramens that they also said were very good. The portions are fairly large and you could definitely share between two people. Lastly, price wise it was reasonable. read more

I love Wagamamas. The food is amazing, the portions are huge and the deserts are to die for. So why haven't I given it a 5 star rating I hear you ask? There are a few things that I mark the restaurant down for. 1 is the long bench style seating, I've never been a fan of sitting so close to other people. Great for big parties or groups, rubbish for intimate 2-4 people groups. 2 is the food service and I quote 'As the food is made fresh, it will arrive out of the kitchen at different times' so there may be up to 5 minutes or so, possibly longer between orders coming out of the kitchen. To me this isn't an excuse, plenty of other restaurants manage to serve all the orders at once. Its about timing and employing more chefs to make it work. Apart from my two minor downsides this is still one of my favourite places to eat. The staff are friendly and efficient and the whole experience is a nice one. read more

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Wagamama!! Anything I've tried in this place is always so good. If I had to pick a favourite dish..I guess I'd have to say the teriyaki salmon / steak. They do a great pad thai also. The chicken katsu curry is great too and very popular. Some of the sides are a little pricey, but worth it! duck gyoza & plum sauce - yes!! The portions are typically fairly large & reasonably priced. I've always gone away fully satisfied and what's even better, is that most of the food would be considered quite healthy. They do a great range of drinks, including freshly prepared fruit juices, as well as beers (Asahi & Tiger among others); wines; sake and soft drinks. Wagamama this time around is not what I remembered it to be a few years ago. The ramen broth was flavourless and the noodles had a bad texture. On top of that, it was way too expensive for the quality of food you get. The only positive I have for the bowl of ramen was that it was a big portion - but really portion size means nothing if the quality is not there.If you're looking for an authentic bowl of Ramen, this is not the place to go. It was more like a big bowl of whatever was cheap and frozen. We also had the Yasai Surendra's curry, and although it wasn't as awful as the ramen, it wasn't the greatest either. The curry was VERY spicy-not that good kind of spicy that wants you to eat more.. it was more like the spicy that'll have you glued to the toilet seat in agony for the next few days. Service however was great and the ambiance of the place is lovely, but I just don't understand the hype of Wagamama with the food being mediocre at best and way too over priced. read more

I love eating out, but sometimes you think (or your tightening jeans tell you) you need a healthier option and I like to think Wagamama is the best choice for this in town. Serving a wide range of rice and noodle dishes, with loads of options for vegetarians it is always a popular spot in Victoria Square. We hadn't been for a while, so this time I tried one of their new brown rice dishes which would have been a little bland without the side of chillies I had ordered. We also got a portion of the gyoza which is always brilliant, the steamed ones being nicer (and healthier) than the fried ones. Everyone sitting at long benches is perhaps not the best place to have private chats, but it is quick and decent enough before nipping upstairs to the cinema. Sadly the standard of service has declined recently, with us basically having to chase the server round so we could pay and leave, but it's reasonably priced and their beef ramen is like a big noodley hug in a bowl. read more

Ahhhh..... i always forget about this place. Located on the 1st floor Victoria Sq this place is easy to forget about, but we ended up in Wagamama after a colleague was presented with the new menu on facebook. We went about Lunch time and where immediately seated. After a quick peruse of the menu we ordered. I had the chicken teriyaki on a bed of Noodles. The atmosphere in Wagamama is always pleasant and the food is cooked to order, so dont be alarmed if your food arrives at the same time, although your server will probably tell you this anyways. When our food arrived it was pretty tasty and full of flavour. This place has plenty of seating and really good for groups - with large tables they could seat up to parties of 12 no problem, at one table. The prices are about £11 per main with a heap of possible starters. The portions here are huge and certainly do enough to fill you - so plan for a light dinner if you are calling for lunch OR just go for dinner instead. Overall I really enjoyed my visit here, i am slightly raging i had forgot about here, so will be making a return very soon. If you enjoy Japanese food or are looking for the less adventurous Japanese food then you should go here. read more

I am a fan ... but this branch hasn't quite lived up to the high standards that I've come to expect from Wagamama. I've been to their Nottingham branch quite a few times and been to their Amsterdam one as well and both of them are absolutely 100% perfect. Saying that though the place is only just open so give the guys a chance to find their feet. I'll deffo be back here (probably quite a lot!) to sample their different dishes and see how they're managing to get on. When we came it was really busy so there was a slight wait on our table ... when we were seated unfortunately it was at the table beside the bins, but we were assured we could move if we weren't happy. Thankfully it wasn't too distracting or smelly so we didn't mind at all. We ordered: duck gyoza, ebi katsu,schicimi squid, yaki udon, chicken katsu curry & 2 tiger beer. The total came to around £45. Wagamama is the ultimate communal dining experience, large tables and benches are what this restaurant is about. If you don't like sharing with strangers this may not be the place for you - don't worry though it's only the table not the food! The staff are attentive but not over bearing and have an excellent knowledge of the food available. The menu can look a bit intimidating with all the Japanese food on offer but the explanations below are very thorough so there should be no doubt in what you are ordering. The concept itself is a bit unusual as they pride themselves on freshly cooked meals which means they will not leave your meal under a heat lamp - if it's ready it will be served so this sometimes results in food envy as your friends food could arrive quite a while before yours, so be warned! The menu is extensive and it will take you a while to decide what to order and chopsticks are the cutlery of choice on every table but don't be alarmed as if you are like me there must be some voodoo magic that you have to possess to successfully feed yourself with two sticks - knives and forks are available on the table to help those in need. Tonight I dined with three friends and we were all impressed with the food on offer - I had the teriyaki donburi with chicken which was a bowl of sticky rice with chicken grated carrots and lamb lettuce, it was extremely filling and very tasty, improved by the spice condiment which is on every table (no idea what this is but it was amazing!). The only dampener on this place was the price of the wine £6.95 for a small glass is a bit expensive. All in all a great place to come for a big feed. read more

This is one of my top chain restaurants. The food is always super fresh, guilt free, healthy and fragrant. Portion sizes are good and leave you feeling suitably satisfied. The sides are really tasty. Would recommend the tori kara age, squid & duck gyoza. For main I'm a huge fan of the teriyaki salmon, pad thai, chicken katsu curry or the donburi. Staff are friendly and service is excellent. If you want really great food in a nice casual restaurant this is the place to go. It is a young, lively and fun experience. If you want some really good asian food and haven't alot of time to spare then go for this fast but tasty restaurant. I have been here several times with friends before going to the Odeon cinema or after a busy day shopping in Victoria square. It is busy, but I can understand why. I had high hopes coming to this place for a myriad of reasons: 1) I was starving and it's hard to fuck up food for me when I'm starving. 2) The place was packed and everyone had smiles on their face. 3) The decor was really cute and the restaurant looked very clean. I don't even know where to start with my horrible experience but in short, the food was horrible, the service was horrible, and the wait was not worth it. My friend ordered teppan udon and it was waayyyy too salty and reeked of japanese-thai-fusion failure. My chili chicken ramen was also full of fusion failure. The broth was weak, watery, and bland. The noodles were all broken up and floury. The only edible dish was the gyoza, hence the solitary star. Our server was rude and seemed to resent us for sitting in his section. He never came back after placing our initial order and we had to repeatedly ask other servers in other sections to either refill our water glasses or place subsequent orders. read more

Took my two daughters here for dinner to celebrate end of school year. Arrived about 6 pm and it was packed. Had to wait a couple of minutes before being seated. Our order was taken quickly and arrived promptly. Girls had mini chicken yaki soba and mini chicken Katsu curry with rice and salad and I had chicken Surendra curry with rice with side of prawn lollipop. Absolutely amazing taste and portion size. The problem was the food was pretty bland and the rice, a major portion of my meal, was way over cooked and basically all stuck together mush. Slick, clean, organised and impressive. These guys at WAGAMAMA know there onions in terms of what works and what does not. This place only opened a week or so ago and you would think the staff had been there for decades, knowledgeable about the new to Belfast eating experience and a BIG emphasis or customer care and satisfaction. Top marks for cleanliness, staff, location and service. If you are looking for a Chinese serving chicken curry fried rice chips and curry sauce forget it, you wont get that crap here, its all fresh, tasty and the healthiest fast food place you will get. I have to say I was impressed, food is served at long tables so if its busy you could be seated beside a stranger, so if you are odd don't choose to eat here. Its an ideal spot for a quick pre movie bite, or a mid shopping lunch stop, I don't think I would come out for a relaxing evening meal here, no back in your seat for one! I like it and will definitely be back, more of a Japanese influence rather than Chinese or Thai which suits me down to the ground, would like to see some sushi on the menu but non the less I will be back. My ode to Asian Fusion! I had experienced Wagamama's unique brand whilst on a holiday in Cork with my girlfriends family. Totally loved it, to the point that I had convinced myself and everyone around me that I was going to start the process the very next morning of opening a Wagamamas in Belfast (needless to say, many, many goblets of wine had been consumed just before this eureka moment)! Anyway, in the sobering light of day, I am just back from a lunch with my girlfriend (before you ask, yes, it's the same one as the holiday) and we both loved it all over again. The seating arrangement is overtly social and slightly more intrusive than us NI folk are used to, but get beyond that and it opens up a wonderful way to dine. I had a curry noodle dish called yasai katsu which was delicious, usually I wolf down food like I'm late for a train however I decided to use the complimentary chopsticks which slowed the speed of the meal to a more relaxed, conversation friendly pace. We also ordered some edamame beans as a side which I had never heard of but my word...you think Pringles are addictive? Service was excellent, very obviously trained in the art of efficiency but polite and friendly to go with it. Thumbs up all round! read more

Was so excited to hear that wagamama was coming to Belfast. I had heard so much about the chain tho never had chance to try it. I couldn't have been more disappointed. It was a Wednesday night at 6:00pm and the line off proletariat was out the door. The bench seating idea wasn't working as staff placed people one space apart leaving half the seats empty. The food we ordered sounded great tho when the noodle dishes arrived they where bland and generally unimpressive. I had the smallest shrimp I have ever seen and the chicken was dry and tasteless. Our side dishes arrived when we were nearly finished our mains and again we found them to be disappointingly tasteless. What's worse is the fact that it's normal for the sides and mains to come at different times, I can't understand this as every other restaurant can manage to serve fresh food together. From sitting down to paying our bill took 25 mins and for this experience we where charged £38.40, a total ripoff. My advice... Try Sakura on botanic ave. read more
