Boneless Peeking Duck

Perfect way to end our trip to Belfast. Saturday night no reservation and seated upon arrival attentive and knowledgable wait staff. Food arrived promptly as ordered. All the food was on par with most of the Chinese restaurant I visit. We soaked up the atmosphere reviewing our trip. Highly enjoyable.

I stopped after work for a quick dinner. I was sat quickly but the servers didn't come for a while. There weren't a ton of vegetarian options that sounded great, but I ordered a curry and side of fried rice. The fried rice was dry and flavorless and the curry only tasted of fat-no heat. There were a lot of vegetables but not a lot of tofu. Food was mid would not go back. The restaurant looked clean but the decor wasn't anything special.

So as we pulled up to the restaurant Gayla Peevey's I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas was playing on the car radio. Tis the season to be jolly after all? There are two things that this Red Panda usually delivers at Christmas - darn good Chinese food and being ripped off. The menu says it's a 10% service charge for groups 6 and over. We were two and got hit with 10% so I didn't leave a tip - had they not billed me with the add on I would have left a tip greater than the 10%. So our bill for one starter between two, the two mains, a fried rice and noodles with one glass of white wine was £53. We got gift tokens for a friend as we paid and the manager tried to hike the bill by another £11 on top of the already over inflated charge - sorry my dear it's £111 not £122 funny how they never undercharge - it's Christmas, bah humbug? So it was delicious duck with pancakes for two to start followed by king prawn salted chilli with noodles, onions and beansprouts and a honey chilli chicken with fried rice. Every dish was nailed perfectly. Crisp prawns with the right balance of chilli and salt and the noodles piping hot and almost tasted toasted - just wonderful. Similarly the honey chilli chicken was aced, and this is going to sound daft but there was honey in it so more sweet than chilli. Most Chinese restaurants/takeaways just pile in white granulated sugar and keep it as cheap as possible. The portions were generous and the service rapid; quite literally when you put down the cutlery the plates are cleared away. We didn't stay for tea or coffee and couldn't manage the dessert. From memory they don't serve toffee apples so that's the only dessert that would keep me there. I guess it'll be March 2022 before we return here. As we left, the car radio came on and it was Fairytale of New York just at that killer line 'merry Christmas your arse I pray God it's our last.... Yes it certainly is the season to be......?

The food is excellent and the staff are very kind and attentive. We enjoyed it so much we may be back again tonight before our trip is over since we were refused service due to having teenagers with us at 3 different Irish pubs at 7pm in evening. Thank you, red panda, for welcoming us when others wouldn't. You saved our entire experience in Belfast.

I went here on two occasions, one for a birthday party and another just for a meal. These two situations left me with two quite different views of the restaurant. On the night of the Birthday, we were placed around a big round table and given complimentary shots (always a good method to increase tip percentage) and were treated very well. They even brought out the cake and the staff joined in, in singing happy birthday to the birthday girl and for some reason, mostly to her embarrassment, got her to stand on the chair. The second time, being just a meal between two people was a completely different affair. We were rushed in, sat down and left for around 12 seconds before they demanded our orders and stared at us in terror when we dared to order starters. If you have a large group of people coming, then don't give two people a table and try and force them through a meal to make a little extra money, it's off putting. I haven't been back since.

Two stars review usually signal something terrible has happened and that you must avoid this restaurant at all costs. Don't let me give you that impression. I went here with my parents before they took off to a concert (those young ones nowadays, i dunno...). We went here primarily because they were staying in Days and as the Red Panda is conveniently located beside them and not me, we met here. The food was grand for what chinese food is but as far as going to a restaurant for a chinese, you expect much better. If it were a takeaway I would think "that was fine, I may go back if I am down that end of the town". however it is a restaurant and the entire place was just a bit of a "can't-be-bothered", the food was boring, the staff seemed like they were going through the motions, and overall chances are I'm not going back. The Red Panda will do very nicely thank you very much. If you're after a good, solid Chinese restaurant without the frills, Red Panda will suit you down to the ground. This place is *always* busy, so reservations are a good call. It's a popular one for birthday parties, having been to a few here myself, as well as being witness some poor diners undergoing an excrutiatingly embarrassing rendition of 'Happy Birthday', followed by the regimented 'carrying out of the birthday cake'. Yep, it's the place to be. Food is excellent, I can particularly recommend the black bean sauce, and the honey chilli chicken (not at the same time mind you...what a strange concoction that would be!). The waiters are fantastic - once, at a birthday dinner I was at, we had the most amusing server, who kept leaping into photos and pulling faces. Needless to say, he went down a treat. The service is unbelievably quick. 30 minutes it took me and my boyfriend to sit down, fill our tummies, pay the bill and leave. 30 minutes! Indigestion = inevitable, but we were in a rush. Thoroughly recommended, for a high-speed dining experience.

Good impressions initially but these dwindled as the meal went on, they had a good deal on cocktails: 2 for £7.95 and were very tasty. Our starters arrived promptly and were very good. The menus are far too extensive we were given 4 different books that were all very large and hard to follow. It took quite a while for drinks to arrive. The mains were absolutely massive we could have easily shared 1 between us. We ordered more drinks which didn't arrive until we eventually decided to pay the bill and go. It was quite obvious we had been forgotten about! During the payment the waitress took my card and walked around the restaurant while she was attending to other things. Being a fraud analyst I am seriously against anyone taking my card away from me as I see the horrors every day. All in all good food, poor service!

Very good and fresh food. We weren't sure how the Asian food would be in Belfast. We were pleased.

Elements came out on the nearby search and the rating results so it was a no brainer. After ordering over the phone we headed straight over and guess what? It was ready for us. I was impressed with the clean interior of the takeaway and I liked the way you could see in to the kitchen. Also there was a comical sign on the window saying, 'Don't stand on the sofa or knock the window' - not sure what's gone on in the past but it was pretty quiet this evening. We ordered a salted chilli chicken dish with 2 sides and it was absolute perfection. Filling and flavoursome. The price wasn't too bad either. £9.20 for all this! I was impressed.

The Chinese owner behind the counter tried to make them leave by saying, "No hurt me, me Provie too, me Provie too!" This myth has literally travelled the world over so that whenever I've been in Irish bars in North America, second generation Irish kids will ask me if i know "Provie Charlie's" (the Weo Pings's nickname). For a chinese, the food isn't bad at all in the Weo Ping. It's of a much higher quality than other Chinese takeouts in the surrounding area. But I agree with the last reviewer that it can tiresome after a while, but I put this down to the fact that North Belfast's takeaways offer predominantly Chinese food with very little variety. So if I'm not screaming about how great this place is, it's only because I've grown up on it.

This is probably one of the first Chinese takeaways I ever tried and it's a brilliant one to start off with. Their salted chilli chicken is fantastic. The chicken is perfectly cooked, and despite in being a dish without a sauce it's never to dry. The best thing about Weo Ping however, is their curry sauce. By far its the best curry I've ever tasted and could possibly make an old trainer just tasty enough to eat! Their prices are brilliant, the delivery charge is barely noticeable. The only problem I have (if you could even be a problem) is their enormous portion sizes! This is only a problem because of the guilt I feel, throwing out their epic grub that I just couldn't fit into my belly!

We had a meal there last week before going onto somewhere else and, as usual, we were more than pleased. Nothing can quite beat the pleasure of perusing a menu with a cold Tsing Tao Chinese beer in your hand. While you're doing this, The Four Seasons, like most Chinese restaurants, serves prawn crackers while you do this, but it also serves little dishes of fire-hot chilli dip and a green chive and ginger dipping sauce that could lead to a momentary lapse in table manners as you try to scoop up the last bits. We always over-order, so we agreed to have 2 starters and one main course: how can I describe what their hand-made dumplings taste like? Or the 8 inch long, skinny spring rolls with their own pork and garlic filling? Kimchee beef followed, more beer and what do you know? Stuffed - again! Here are my tips for a successful visit: loose clothes, no thoughts of going on to party anywhere else, and a nice bed to drift into later! The staff are lovely and the clientele loyal, it's reasonably pricey, but so what when there's no pink, gloopy sweet and sour sauce in sight? This is a restaurant to treat yourself to, but you'll want to go back, I promise.
