Nacho chips and beer :)
Maeve M.

I was here last week for the Yelp burrito off and I have to say I was extremely impressed. I hadn't heard of Acapulco until then and I will definitely be returning. The resteraunt is beautifully decorated inside with lovely painted wooden Mexican style chairs, amazing big lampshades, comfy tables and chairs and funky music playing in the background. The atmosphere was perfect! The burrito we tried from Acapulco was amazing, the rice and meat were cooked perfectly. I loved the dressing that was on top of the burrito. It was delicious. There is a great range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks to choose from. I will definitely be going back here soon.

Lunch. Nachos!

To my genuine shock I've just realised I've not yet reviewed Acapulco. Not sure how I let this one slip through the cracks as this is my 'local' - I work down the road and Acapulco is within walking distance, so this would be a fairly regular haunt for me, I couldn't even begin to put a number on how many times I've been!! The Upper Newtownards Road is a fairly good spot in Belfast for food, but Acapulco is my number one. Generally I have the Nachos Todos or a burrito. You'd probably think that Nachos would be more of a starter, but you'd be wrong, I struggle to finish it despite how good it is! It is a plate of nachos, covered in melted cheese, spring onions, sour cream, guacamole, salsa, jalapenos, and loads of chilli beef. Heaven on a plate! They do their burritos slightly differently which I love - I have the chilli beef with rice and beans, with the sour cream and guacamole on top of the burrito instead of inside it. Much nicer!! I have also had the quesadilla from Acapulco, which again was delicious! Oh, and don't forget to try their frozen margaritas!

Amazing flavoured beef. My Flautas where a bit too spicy for me at points. I don't temper it sating about spice in the description. Nice mood setting lighting. Hard to relax and have conversations. It's quite noisy.

Close contender to Boojum. There should be a Mexican wrestling match between the two. Great produce, quality awesome, quantity generous. The seating isn't the best but forgiven. Food on Joe

I can't believe I am actually writing this as Acapulco is my fave mexican place but the last take away I got a couple of weeks ago was a real let down. I went for the pork burrito which I've had a few times before which was always great. This time however a few bites in I found a bit of what I assume was bone. Then as I ventured tentatively to take another few bites I came across a big chuck of fat!!! It was so gross! Needless to say I couldn't enjoy the rest so it was binned :-( sob. I've still give 3* as I'm hoping this was just a one off incident and the flavours were still good. This will probably put me off going back for a while and next time I reckon I'll stick with a trusty chilli con carne burrito instead.

Chicken chimichanga-delicious!!

So impressed with the food here! It really was amazing! This busy little restaurant had helpful and friendly staff and we didn't have to wait too long for food. I had a chimichanga (deep fried burrito) with chicken and paired with the verde (medium) sauce and washed down with the mango jarrito. I couldn't believe how tasty it all was, easily the best burrito I've ever eaten! I would say this is the best Mexican in Belfast! Everyone should definitely check it out! Yum yum!

Greedy fingers trying to steal my churros!

If you fancy a little Mexican spice in your day it is worth the 10 minute (in a car) trip up to the buzzing suburb of Ballyhackamore. Relaxed and casual with super colourful chairs (random fact) this small restaurant really packs a punch. So much for the New Year's resolutions, I popped in for lunch at the weekend and boy was it good. Sometimes in a Mexican it can feel like their salsas are more packet-from-Tesco than packs-a-punch. Not so here, with lovely fresh flavours. I was trying to be good, but if a Chimichanga is on offer, who am I to say no! Spicy yet creamy it really hit the spot, and although we definitely didn't need them, the sweet potato fries on the side were a treat. It can be easy to add things like soured cream and cheese, but you really don't need them as they come with plenty. Again not that I needed it but was being greedy, I can never say no to their Churros either. Made fresh, they were kind enough to do mine without cinnamon (which spoils everything it touches spice-wise in my opinion) and when dipped in the warming chocolate I was really reluctant to share. Best Mexican in town!

The winning Yelp mouthing off burrito, every bit as good this time round!
Gillian C.

After attending the Yelp mouthing off event a few colleagues mentioned how great the burritos looked so planned a little lunchtime outing for one who was going on maternity leave. I enjoyed the winning burrito so much I decided to try it again and it certainly did not disappoint, everyone I was with enjoyed their burritos too including the one who had never had one before and didn't eat "funny foreign food". Next time I'll be trying other items on the very affordable menu

Tacos are soft by default, which I think makes good sense in terms of trying to hold them together when eating them. I'm happy enough about the food but after having to wait for weeks turning to months for this place to open, they could have given more consideration to the people-flow aspects of design and layout. If the place is busy, the queue obstructs the flow of people from counter to seating. Then anybody sitting by the window has to cut through the queue to access the waste bins. Surely there are better ways of doing this. The counter could have been operated in the opposite direction with the queue directed anticlockwise around the wall by a balustrade. Then anybody leaving the counter could access all seating areas and bins without crossing the queue or squeezing past it.

Generous portions, really flavourful food and staff were extremely helpful advising about spice/ heat levels. Would recommend and will return.

I was actually lured in here yesterday by a sandwich board outside saying 'Buy one get one half price on Burgers' but to my disappointment that deal only starts after 6pm - so don't get caught out. Once inside I didn't want to be 'That guy' who leaves once he finds out a deal isn't available - no one likes 'that guy'. So I stayed and I'm glad I did. The lunch menu isn't too expansive - it consists of a few starters, mussels, wings and chowder and for mains you can pick from 7 pub favourites like fish and chips or burgers. Having convinced my wee brain I was getting a burger before I walked in I went for a Mexican burger - it was priced at £12 which I initially thought was quite steep but once it came out I realised it was well worth the money. The burger was cooked to perfection (we were asked how we'd like it cooked - I opted for pink) and it was topped with spicy beef chili and huge chunks of chorizo - nice and sloppy and full of flavour. It was accompanied by potato cut chips, you know the type that have the skin still on one side for added authenticity. Can't fault the food at all and the staff are excellent - we were seated promptly, offered drinks and our orders were taken as soon as we were ready. A really great lunchtime destination. 5 Stars for food!
