I was completely blown away by Bonyeon Korean Steak Omakase. From the moment I stepped in, I knew this would be different from the usual omakase experience--more serene, more intentional, and definitely more focused on the food. What I appreciated most was the quiet sophistication of the experience. There were no chefs talking over the food, no awkward small talk mid-bite, and definitely no performative "drink-and-grill" energy. The chefs here were fully focused, letting the dishes speak for themselves. The music? Soft, atmospheric, and just loud enough to put you at ease while you truly savored each bite. It stayed that way until the very end, when a more playful tune set in for the last two desserts--a perfect transition to close the night on a light, cheerful note. Now, the steak: absolutely phenomenal. Cuts were sourced from the U.S., Australia, Korea, and Japan, with the Kagoshima wagyu stealing the spotlight for me. That said, the Korean beef was surprisingly rich and satisfying, and the American and Australian cuts held their own beautifully. Every piece was cooked right in front of us--slow, deliberate, and paired smartly with seasonal vegetables or light sauces that never overpowered. You could feel the balance in each course. The seafood courses were also excellent--fresh, clean, and a nice contrast to the meat-heavy progression. If anything, the entire experience might benefit from trimming down the total number of courses just slightly. It was a lot of food, and I found myself nearing full by the midway point. That said, the pacing was well done, and nothing felt rushed. Wine pairings were spot on. I'm usually picky about wine with steak, but they nailed the selections without going overboard. Would I come back? Absolutely--especially on a day I'm craving serious steak, thoughtfully prepared in a calm, beautiful setting. This is the kind of omakase that makes you fall in love with the art of it all over again.

My wife and I had an incredible time during my birthday. We went on a Wednesday evening as soon as they opened, 5:00pm. We had the whole place to ourselves so it was a very intimate and private experience. We got to ask the chefs about the prepared dishes and what other dishes they enjoyed in Chicago. Food: exceptional. I highly recommend the wine pairing. Not only did they compliment the dishes, but also cleanse the pallet to prepare us for the next course. Service: incredible, everyone easy to talk to and down to earth. Atmosphere: private and intimate experience in a modern kitchen. Room for improvement. Possibly offer the beef cut with little to no seasoning prior to the dish so the customer can taste and enjoy what wagyu is supposed to taste like prior to the add one of flavor.

This is an incredible experience if you're a steak lover ! It's a steak omakase with Korean influence and it is some of the best steak I've ever had! It's a really chice vibe with about 12 seats at the counter and the chefs will prepare some of the menu at the kitchen and the steak infront of you on the bbq grill! You are treated so well by everyone and they know the menu front to back and make the experience special. Can't wait to go back!

For context, I'm a 1st Gen Korean American, and have eaten in more places than most in both countries. By far, the worst experience I've had in an upscale setting. Service is cold, and aimed towards tourists. They would go under within a month if they were counting on repeats. Budae Jiggae pictured below was the worst item, needed a highlight. Lukewarm, 90% noodle (that isn't even housemade), completely under salted, and so flavorless I was about to search for a shin ramyun packet. Genuinely the worst thing I've had this year. Nothing else was of note. All decent or good, but I'd recommend you go to any decent KBBQ, or just take a flight to LA and back. You'd save money in the end. We were in for my beloved girlfriend's birthday, visiting from Paris. They set us up with the least trained chef, who was constantly behind other chefs by a minute plus. Very nice guy, but I could tell he was struggling to keep up. They served her the shittiest made dessert at the end, andwe could literally see they intentionally swapped us for a lovely couple next to us who probably thinks Jonga Kimchi at Costco is authentic. I see why they got the soju pairing, would need to be drunk to enjoy this. Stick to sushi, chef.

I enjoyed every dish here. They had all types of beef from Australia, Japan, and the US. A lot of care seemed to be put into each. There was one fish dish with congee. It's more relaxed than their omakase sushi experience. I think it's due to all the people it takes to make each dish. The interior is nice and the music has a strong beat but isn't too loud.

Beef box they present before the meal

one the best and most interesting menus I've had in the city! beautiful intimate space, friendly staff and cooks and the food was delicious! highly recommend for a special occasion.

Can't believe Bonyeon hasn't received more reviews! So amazing that I went back a week later. Every one of my friends loved it. Chicagoans love their steakhouses, I assumed steak omakase would be a hit.

Everything was phenomenal! Bavette's does their steak right with the intersection of perfectly charred along and juiciness. It was well seasoned and all the flavors are truly phenomenal. Be prepared to be very full because a lot of the food I felt was greasy. However, the crab stuffed avacado was a nice refreshing touch!

One criticism was the Keylime pie. It was super tall, but the cream on top wasn't particularly good. Overly sweet and not adding anything. The Keylime portion on the bottom didn't have much tanginess to it. A real missed opportunity, especially at the price.

She absolutely fell in love with the place and said she was having a great birthday. She wasn't planting seeds, I swear, but our server, ever the professional, said he'd take care of us. And he did, punctuating our dinner with a wonderful dessert with a birthday candle. Speaking of candles, the focaccia appetizer came out with a lit candle that melts a tasty, buttery dipping sauce. I had work done at the dentist earlier, so I had a hard time eating. Every bite was painful, but I heated up our leftovers and fell in love with my rigatoni with vodka sauce all over again. Yum. The only drawback is the prices. We're not rich, but we love a great experience. We understand that an experience like that comes with a price, so we'll be back as much as we can.

Perilla is a tastefully decorated restaurant, both loungey and rich, but still makes you feel like the joint is all for you. You know, 5 star service is such a lost art, it makes you forget how much you miss it when all of a sudden it happens to be right in front of you. Ricardo, our bartender, what a gem. Forget about the perfectly made drinks that were served to us. Ricardo made us feel right at home with his kind disposition and friendly demeanor. But it doesn't just stop at Ricardo. Everyone was absolutely fantastic. We could have been served 7-11 sushi at this point and I still would have left 5 stars. Food time. The kimchi pork dumplings were an absolute flavor bomb and that parmesan broth gave the dumplings a little extra kick that took it to the next level. Plus, I love when the dumpling wrapper has a little chew to it and isn't this soft mush that dissolves in your mouth. The beef fat frites were a nice treat as well. They were not extra or over the top in anyway. But you can tell when something is done well and correctly, just like these fries were. The Premium Steakhouse Set, in my opinion, is all two people need to enjoy this very special experience. All the accompanying condiments were exceptional on their own and could have functioned as their own course. The Japchae glass noodles were a stunner. The real sleeper was the chopped lettuce greens tossed in their chili vinaigrette. Could have eaten 20 bowls of those lettuce greens. Sadly, I forgot the name of our server who cooked and cut our meat for us. She really added to the experience. She expertly prepared our food while maintaining a fun and pleasant conversation with us. The meat itself, my goodness, tender, smoky, quality-forward, and perfect served with the condiments. I was staying at the hotel and encouraged to check out the restaurant so came downstairs to reach out to the host about a reservation. They told me they were fully committed the whole night, I said okay is there a waitlist, she looked at me unsure. I explained further if there is a cancellation would love to be notified and she wrote my name down. I went back to the lobby, looked on OpenTable and I saw multiple reservations. I went back to the hostess showing the 8:15 resy I got and she said it wasn't accurate and if someone booked it and came they would refuse them (what???!! There's a cancellation fee as well). I asked about the 8:45 and her coworker said that IS available. I was confused, because a minute ago she said they were fully commited. Which I said back, she said there is actually an 8:45 (okay so you lied). I asked if we could put our name down for that and did. After that extremely strange interaction, which I was not used to after eating at many higher end restaurants we sat down at 8:45. We ended up getting a mix of small plates. The waiter was clearly trying to sell us their expensive courses for his tip though he was very sweet... which he may not have realized we had an expense budget for work and we were trying not pass that. He emphasized the small plates were small and not enough food which we fell for and got more and had way too much food and passed our expense budget due to it. The food is great, it's the service that has work to do especially for such a high price tag. Get the chicken for sure. Dumplings you can pass on. The broccolini (not pictured) is great as well. Amazing sauce. As the food is good I would not come here again due to the service as their are other restaurants that are more buttoned up than this.

I had seen it previously advertised on TikTok and decided it looked like a nice, upscale dining experience and the perfect mimosa-filled brunch opportunity. Upon coming in at 11 when the location opened, I was already impressed by the beautiful cafe inspired French interior. The warm lighting and refined Parisian details were so beautiful and elegant, and I especially loved the look of the bar, which is a central statement of this restaurant. I chose the French toast breakfast and my boyfriend got the steak and eggs, and we both had mimosas as well! My French toast was light, fluffy, and delicious, definitely a solid choice. My boyfriend was super impressed by the steak and eggs and said it was the best breakfast he had our entire trip! The food itself was great and I would love to come back and try their dinner menu at some point. The service, however, is what truly stood out to me in our experience. Our servers were very helpful, knowledgeable about the menu, and speedy. We truly felt taken care of. Fernando was the sweetest and most welcoming, and he immediately made my boyfriend and I feel so welcomed and at home in Chicago. We greatly enjoyed our conversation with him and he even gifted me a coffee table book detailing the history and menu of La Grande Boucherie, which was so kind and such an amazing gesture. We ordered the $195.00 seafood tower, only to find that it barely included any seafood, 1/2 of a lobster, 4 shrimp and about a dozen oysters. I understand that Chicago is not a coastal city, but to not even include an entire lobster for a tower that cost $195.00?! Yikes! The drinks are also very expensive, and we found the steaks to be tough and dry. The Niçoise salad was awful, and not at all what we expected. It was drowning in dressing and the combination of anchovies and tuna did not work. It was also quite obvious that the tuna was not seared properly. I did think the roast chicken was good, and the fries were by far the best part of the meal. We went to several fine restaurants over the past few days to celebrate a milestone birthday, and La Grande Boucherie was the absolute worst in terms of value and quality of food. They were also the only establishment that didn't give the celebrant a small desert with a candle to mark the occasion. Just disappointing all around.
