Had dinner here Saturday ... prior to watching a movie at the Galleria, so arrived early and was able to take advantage of Bonsai's 'happy hour' - 3:30-5:30 ... so cost was very reasonable. Restaurant was clean, wait staff were pleasant, food was excellent - we had a variety of sushi rolls and a little sashimi - everything was good. Location is probably why I hadn't gone before - it's a couple of doors down from 'Bugaboo Creek' (which is fine when you have little kids, but otherwise aweful) ... so in a strip mall ... not the best location ... but the interior is very nice. My boyfriend and I woke up feeling extremely sick after eating at this place one night. We usually go to Bonsai 3 in Fishkill & have never had any issues with them there so they're my go-to. I was in the area so me and my boyfriend thought why not come here. I had a slight feeling while I was finishing my sushi that something wasn't sitting well but I thought I might've just ate too fast. After finishing up I went home and continued to feel ok. Woke up the next morning feeling very sick to the point I called out of work. My boyfriend had texted me saying he didn't feel good the next morning and ended up getting sick all day as well as myself. I used to go here with my wife at least twice a month but that all changed after today. The service was terrible. Not only did our waitress rudely walk away from us and seat a couple who waked in the couple got their food before we did. The man looked over st me while eating and asked if we had been waiting long. I said yes and asked if he ordered his food prior to coming on because my wife said they must have done that. He said no and said he thought it odd they were served before us. And what's worse his wife said she ordered the chicken box which takes a moment to prepare. I told my wife let's go. Suddenly our waitress said our food was up. I told her we'll only be paying for our drinks. As she rudely rang us up another couple came up behind and loudly announced they'd never come back because if the service. Now I don't want to bring up race but my wife and I are black and the couple served before us us white. And the white guy said this is messed up. So I'd sooner eat McDonald's than go here again to the racist and rude restaurant. read more

Bonsai II has the WORST service of any restaurant in the area. Arrived at 5:30 specifically for happy hour waiting for a half hour while watching the servers clean the tables and take care of people who walked in 20 min after us. After letting the server know we haven't been taken care of the server tossed two menus on our table and we asked if we'd be able to do the happy hour which ends at 6 (5:52) she said no, we got up and left as she continued to give us an attitude. my sister treated me to this place for a much needed sushi fix. the food is delicious, if you love sushi you will love this place. my only problem is that a waiter comes up to you every 2 minutes asking if everything is okay, it kind of gets annoying when you are trying to eat and they ask you questions when your mouth is full. but other than that its my late night friday haunt and i try to go their every other week. read more

My friends and I come here as much as possible! It's a bit of a drive for me from westchester but it's well worth it. The food is great! The prices are reasonable. It's nothing fancy but they have so many roll combinations to choose from (my favorite being the baked lobster - banana tempura, with scallop, topped with crab and lobster masago). Bonsai II - Sushi Bars Near Me - Poughkeepsie, New York

I was excited to check this place out because of the good reviews. I came for lunch but decided against any of the specials because their special rolls sounded so good, but ultimately I was disappointed. The upsides is that the restaurant was clean, nicely decorated, and the service was quite good. The only downside in ambiance was that it was really cold (I love cranking the AC but that was too much for me and I'm never cold). The real disappointment for me were the sushi rolls. I ordered 3 of the special rolls (which sounded and looked great on the menu) and they just were not great. I think the fish was good, but something about the rolls were just off - I think it was the proportions and how they were rolled. The end result was almost too big to comfortably fit in your mouth. They also just weren't "dressed" right. There was one (not very good, very one note) sauce on the plate and all 3 rolls came on top of it. There were no sauces on the rolls themselves and the sauce on that plate wasn't right, so they tasted...bland. The menu pictures looked WAY more appetizing than what I was actually served. To be fair, the food wasn't horrible, but when I pay $40 for 3 rolls, I'm expecting to leave in a state of sushi euphoria and that definitely wasn't the case. And not for nothing, but when you serve a bunch of lunch specials for $7-$14 that are served with soup and salad, when a customer orders $40 worth of sushi at lunch, the least you can do is offer some free soup or salad. Bottom line, if you order a lunch special or happy hour special this place very well may be worth it, but if you're just ordering special rolls, this place is way overpriced and the quality is lacking. I've had much better special rolls just down the street at Enso or Kodomo. read more

Came here recently for dinner. The place was clean and quiet, and the servers were attentive. My husband ordered the sashimi which he relatively enjoyed. The presentation was pretty, the portions of fish were generous, and the quality was okay. Went here with my girlfriend for the first time today and was not impressed. We were seated right away since it wasn't busy but it took a few minutes before the waitress even came over and asked what we would like to drink. After that we ordered one roll which took at least 20 minutes to come out. When we got it we realized we didn't have any chopsticks. Waitress was unreachable so we ate a couple by hand and asked for a box and the check. The sushi itself was actually really good. I would give this place 4 stars if the service had been faster and the host at least a little engaging. I love Bonsai. ( if this is one next to the mall ) This bonsai is so good ! I always get waited on in a friendly manner. I love the plum wine with my maki combo. the maki combo is such a good deal! It comes with a soup and a salad, and 3 rolls! - an ell roll, california roll and a spicy tuna roll ( i believe) this could be the spicy maki combo. either way its fantastic. This was a terrible experience. I went into get a jalepeno roll.. they gave me green pepper instead. Not spicy what so ever. So that was fine, I only ate one piece and called the waitress over and explained that I wanted the jalepeno roll. She told me I was wrong!!! And refused to replace my roll. Had a very good experience with dinner here. The bento box dinner is a great deal for the price. In other places I have spent a lot on sushi dinners and walked away still feeling hungry, the portions, with soup, salad and the selections for the dinner was plenty. Lots of variety to chose from and it was all good. The sushi was fresh and well made. The restaurant is decorated nicely and bathrooms clean and nice too.
