street corn (not seeing it on the menu anymore though)
Chelsea A.

One of my clients is near this Bonchon, yet I'm usually always rushing home to eat dinner. I decided to have a slower evening and eat at Bonchon for dinner for once with my partner. I was a little wary of coming here based on a past Bonchon experience elsewhere and based off of some reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised with the experience here. The only one star deduction is that the tables felt perpetually sticky and that's never a great feeling. Other than that, the service was super prompt, the ambiance was fun since we came on trivia night (we didn't want to play), and the food exceeded expectations. If you're not into having a loud lively environment, I'd advise against coming when their trivia nights are (when I went, it was on a Tuesday evening). The sides we ordered were kimchi and street corn. The street corn tasted a bit more on the Mexican side than the Korean side - MexiKorean fusion I suppose? I'm also not quite seeing it on the menu anymore... The kimchi was very standard. What exceeded expectations was how fresh the chicken was, and how perfectly crispy and saucy the fried chicken was prepared. We opted for half soy garlic and half spicy drumsticks and wings. The spicy was a little more spicy than I expected it to be, and the soy garlic was as expected: savory, sweet, and salty. The pickled radish is always a nice palate cleanser! If you're craving Korean fried chicken and you're in the Navy Yard area, I'd give Bonchon a try as a dine-in customer. I can't really speak much to takeout as that's a whole different experience.

Great spot for takeout and big dining room for eat in. I have been ordering pick up from here for months but finally went in for dinner. The good: the food. The chicken quickly became a takeout favourite with near weekly orders and the noodle dishes are also a solid option. If eating in, the restaurant also has a lot of seating, indoor and outdoor and a lager bar with good happy hour specials. The bad: this is kind of an odd complaint but their Korean hot chicken seems very much like buffalo chicken, which is hot but not Korean. I don't know if this is true but I know each time I've eaten it the hot chicken has been good but reminiscent of traditional hot buffalo wings.

Fried Rice

A modern, chic restaurant serving popular Korean food. Korean Fried Chicken, and they also have Bimbimbap. I ordered a Korean Fried Rice with added spicy chicken. They do not have a physical menu. They have QR codes on each table and you will need to scan the code and order via your mobile device by opening a tab to your credit card. Receipt is also sent to your email.

Satisfied my late night chicken cravings here! This is a casual eatery with bar seating available. Service might feel slow, but be patient with the chicken - it's worthwhile! We started off with takoyaki - not bad. Then the holy grail of the evening finally came: Crispy, hot, juicy, and tender chicken coated in a delightful soy garlic glaze! The sweet tanginess of the accompanying pickled radish cut into the heaviness of the fried chicken.  Their KFC hits the spot!

The Yangnyeom wings are phenomenal! They are sweet yet savory and I would definitely get them again. The tteokbokki was too sweet. It tasted like ketchup. Staff is friendly and prompt per usual.

Food was amazing and fresh! I ordered online for pick up. The pick up time was 12:21pm! The food was ready at 12:17pm, Hot and ready! Service was amazing Easy to order online. Pick was easy as well!

This place easily has a top 5 happy hour in Navy Yard. The place was empty on a Thursday after work so the service was super fast. I am a fan how you just order and pay on your phone. The food options are pretty big and the drink options are not bad. If you want a happy hour off the main area this is the place to go.

Dropped back after a Nats game while waiting for an Uber. Had a drink at the bar. I ordered using the QR code. The drink was made and served very quickly. The staff was attentive, even though you did not order with them. I had a cocktail made with soju and it came with a candy on the side. It was tasty and reasonably priced.

After an awesome baseball game, I decided to hit up Bonchon, just a 5-minute walk from the stadium--a super convenient spot for a quick bite. Even with the post-game crowd, I was surprised at how quickly we were seated and our order taken. It was my first time at Bonchon, but I'd heard great things about their wings. I went with the soy garlic wings and some fries. Let me tell you, these were the BEST wings I've ever had. Crunchy on the outside, fall-off-the-bone tender on the inside, and the soy garlic flavor was out of this world! I'm definitely coming back to try more of their menu. If everything else is as good as the wings, I'm in for a treat!

I really enjoyed my experience here. I understand why people love their chicken. Lol The atmosphere is chill and relaxed. It's not loud at all. It's in a busy area where lots of people work so...it's super convenient for lunch. The prices were good as well. I'll definitely go back for a visit.

JC R.

Korean style fried chicken had become popular to the millennials and the crave has become, well, common, or routine for many unlike when it was first introduced. Yet, it's a solid grub! 8 wings soy garlic served on me were heavily breaded, not their best... For my visit today, proximity to my work primarily pulled me in and because it had ample seating for good conversation or meeting colleagues and friends, at least in the Navy Yard location. It has more of a bar vibe so seating by the bar is best and better than usual Bon Chons in other locations or in burbs. Service was great for today's visit and I recalled their service was always great particularly when my agency held happy hours in past few years...but it's not something I would go to with frequency. As I said, I came here previously for Hhr but it is a nice place if all else fails...

Ask the Community - Bonchon Navy Yard

Is there an allergen menu list that includes sesame? I know most of the foods will have sesame, just trying to find something for my kiddo to eat if we have dinner at Bonchon.

Just ask the waiter. I'm sure they'll respond and not add sesame.

Do they use peanut oil? My sister is allergic to peanuts so wanted to know before we try!

Only soybean oil for the chicken. There are no nuts whatsoever in the restaurant!

Advice: sitting outside might be better in the cooler weather because we were being eaten alive by mosquitoes and fighting off flies. I really hope that they consider some type of nature oils near the tables to help guests feel more comfortable outdoors. Also, it would help to get more than one fan. Hospitality: aside from the bugs encounter, I would say that we did not have reservations (they were packed inside) so the hostess was nice enough to accommodate us outdoor. Our waiter, Anthony was a ball of energy and he really understands the dishes and was able to give great recommendations, some of which we plan to try on our next visit. Portions: the dishes are shareable so we only ordered the beef noodles and walnut shrimp and both were more than enough for a party of 2. DRINKS: I ordered the dark and stormy which can best be described as not too sweet and perfect for anyone desiring a well balanced drink. The bourbon smash was also really good. Well balanced with a smoky flavor which I loved. FOOD: Beef noodles- gosh this was so divine! Be warned however, there is a bit of spice to it but nothing that you won't be able to handle. I think the spices paired with the preparation of the noodles and the beef all made this dish memorable. Walnut shrimp- another memorable dish which came with a side of white rice. The shrimps were HUGE! But the flavors on each shrimp paired with that crunchy texture and creamy sauce, spectacular! Safe to say that we enjoyed both dishes and cannot wait to return and reserve indoor tables lol

I don't even know how to describe the energy in this place, but you can just feel it the moment you walk in. The restaurant has a dark aesthetic that gives it such a cool, cozy ambiance. My daughter and I ordered the Dan Dan noodles and spicy wontons. Everything was so filling that we ended up ordering another bowl of the Dan Dan noodles! And honestly, I still crave them. The Dan Dan noodles were SO good. The sauce was the perfect combination of creamy and spicy, and there was a generous amount of minced pork that balanced everything out really well. The wontons paired perfectly with the chili sauce that came with them! They were spicy--my ears turned red and my nose started running--but I literally could not stop going back for another bite. Even the wontons alone were incredibly filling. I don't live anywhere near this place, and I genuinely wish I did. I traveled pretty far to get here, and I'd absolutely do it again. This was one of those meals that stays on your mind long after you've left!

Fig Around and Find Out: 4/5, not too sweet, and you could really taste the prosecco Chikin: 5/5, you can't go wrong with this Anju classic! This is a perfect appetizer for four people. Our waiter provided some hand wipes so we could clean our hands off afterwards. Yukhoe: 3/5, this was sweeter than I expected, and the sugar/nuts/chili basil overpowered any beef flavor. Chadolbaegi Fried Rice: 4/5, great smoky flavor but I wish the butternut squash had been cut bigger to enjoy more with each bite. More pork also would've been nice. Half chikin (4/5) - why do they call it chikin? It made me think it wasn't real chicken like what veggie grill calls their fake chicken. Anyway, it was messy but it was crispy and hot - it was fine. I've had better. 3. Lobster steamed egg (1/5) - the lobster was rubbery and I'm not a big fan of mixing sweet and savory together and for me, the sweet peppers ruined the entire dish. For me, the dish as a whole was less than the sum of its parts. 4. Ssam (5/5) - this dish saved the rest of the meal. The meat was tender the pear was nice and refreshing but to be honest, I consider this hard to mess up as long as the meat is good. My wife said that she wishes we just ordered two of these and nothing else lol. 5. Drinks (non-alcoholic - one was yakult and the other I think was passionfruit) - my wife really enjoyed both drinks so I guess I'll round up the review to 4 stars. If I lived in DC, I would probably go back here but since we're from out of state and visit DC once a year for work, we probably wouldn't come back here.

It was perfectly crispy, light, and flavorful--both my husband and I really enjoyed it. The curry chicken was decent. My husband loved it, but I thought it was just okay. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't particularly memorable either. As for the stir-fried noodles, they were average and didn't leave much of an impression. Unfortunately, what really changed our overall experience wasn't the food--it was the service at the end of the meal. When it was time to pay, my husband used his card but intended to leave the tip in cash. As the waitress was processing the payment, she said, "You know the tip is not included." It wasn't what she said, but how she said it. It came across as if she was demanding a tip rather than providing the kind of service that would naturally earn one. The interaction left us feeling uncomfortable and ended the meal on a disappointing note. Because of that experience, I can't recommend this restaurant. Chinatown has plenty of other restaurants that offer not only better food but also friendlier, more welcoming service.
