This Bonchon lacks so much compared to the ones in Allston and Lowell. For starters, prices are more expensive at this location for small looking chicken and portions. Quality of the chicken is not like regular Bonchon's either. My wings were not crispy, and I was surprised to see popcorn chicken instead of the regular chicken strips! What in the world?!? I am following up on a review that is already on here from Rhea B. I was the one who placed the order online for the spicy chicken tacos - i picked up the tacos, went home and saw it was beef. i called Bonchon immediately and expressed the issue. The individual on the phone assured me that i could come back and swap the beef tacos for chicken. I explained to him that I live half an hour from the location and could not leave in the middle of the work day again. He was very understanding and said i could come back at any point of the day. I went to Waltham a few hours later to swap it out. I called ahead while on my way to ensure that the replacement would be ready. Again the person on the phone had no problem and said the kitchen was making it. Once i got to the location, the person at the front asked for a lady - who i assume is the manager? to come to speak to me. I explained her the issue. Per your comment on Rhea B's post - It wasn't a super complicated issue to explain so I did have the words to explain it - i received beef instead of chicken. The woman did not even give me the chance to speak, and refused to believe that she accidentally gave us beef instead of chicken. She refused to even open up the box to even check - which i asked her to do 3-4 times. Per your comment on Rhea B's post - can you tell me how she informed you that half the meat was eaten if she hadn't even opened up the box? We do not eat beef. We never have, it's part of our culture and upbringing to not eat beef. It might be unacceptable for you a customer to bring back a dish half eaten, but i can assure you that there is no way we would have eaten the beef. It is unacceptable as a customer to receive no accountability on your end. As someone who doesn't eat beef, i have had this issue happen multiple times at other locations - it's really not a big deal. places will swap it out and apologize and it's fine. But this experience was terrible. Not only did we receive the wrong dish, there was zero accountability, the woman refused to open the box to even check what i was saying and still on Yelp you are making up stories saying we "ate half the meat" on Rhea B's post. If the lady we spoke to was nice and honest, she would have had no problem giving us her name when i asked twice. She refused to give her name, and refused to provide us any service. We are huge bonchon fans, and have gone several times at many locations. This experience and the terrible customer experience we received on that day, as well as the follow up i see on Yelp is extremely disappointing. My spouse had the fried chicken and it was good. The servers were polite so i did not have a problem with the service. Ordered the spicy chicken bibimbap and although it was tasty, it had a lot of rice in proportion to the other things. The chicken portion was tiny. Ordered an extra portion of the chicken- this was was very small too. The proportions of vegetables/meat in this dish need to be revisited by whoever does the menu. I've been here at least 10 times and have probably tried the entire menu by now and everything is amazing. The standouts are the japchae and the bulgogi, and of course the fried chicken. They do primarily takeout and delivery so even when things seem calm, they're working on a lot of orders, and the food still comes out fast and perfect. read more

I've been wanting for weeks and was excited to see this location of Bonchon open! We came here this past weekend and ordered and a half and half of the boneless wings. The service was pretty good. I was pretty underwhelmed by the food. The was way too spicy, and I like spice. The problem when food is too spicy is that you miss the other flavors. I was not able to taste if the sauce had kelp or anchovies in it. Everything was overwhelmed by spice. My husband and I were in agreement that in Korea is not this spicy (and yes, I know that they are supposed to be spicy rice cakes and I expected spice, but the sauce has other flavors in the background that I missed). I didn't expect it to take me back to Gwangjang market. I mean, we ate it and it was okay, I just wanted to be able to taste other flavors that are subtle in the sauce. We also could not differentiate between the flavors of the wings. Still, the food satisfied my craving. The restaurant itself is a nice space and it is good addition to Waltham. read more

Been a dine in customer pre-pandemic and mostly a take out post pandemic. the layout of the waltham location is a bit stale and the service is not as attentive and refined as a white tablecloth restaurant, but at the end of the day that's not what the place is known for or striving for. the food is still classic bon chon, dating back over 20 years ago since the first establishment in Boston. when my family hankers for fried chicken it's normally a toss up between KFC and bon chon out of convenience. bon chon normally always wins as the kids can get the soy wings and the grown ups can get the spicy wings/drumsticks. yes there are better Korean options closer to BU, but for waltham and the college kids, this is solid no frills. fries prob not worth it, even for kids. read more

My fried chicken tastes like they are from a bad local dive bar - the chicken was dry, the batter either extremely salty (soy garlic) or so incredibly spicy that our tongues became numb for a good 30 min. The food here is great, you need to dine in when the chicken is fresh. Definitely a good spot to eat, don't listen to the negative reviews. We only come here out of convenience, easier parking than Allston, and because they offer deep fried pickles which my daughter LOVES. Otherwise, we wouldn't come to this location. Our last order, the chicken was awful. It arrived soggy, like it had been sitting in the boxes when the chicken was still too hot and steamed up inside the box. Extremely disappointing. My experience at this Bonchon location was very positive. I've been to both the one in Allston and Cambridge and yes, this menu is not as large, but the quality and taste of the chicken I think is the same~ which is the most important thing anyway! When I went with my family, it was a Monday night and it wasn't crowded at all. Parking in Waltham is definitely more manageable and easier to get around than the other locations. We got a large order of soy garlic wings, house fried rice, japchae noodles, edamame, and fries. The serving size of the rice and noodles were a little on the smaller side (granted we were doing family style), but other than that everything was honestly delicious. The chicken tasted just like the bonchon chicken I know and love~ crispy and tasty on the outside, warm and tender on the inside. Highly recommend everything else we ordered as well~ the japchae was really nice, and also surprisingly the fries had the perfect crispiness. Would definitely go back to this location again! So convenient to have outside the city and much more manageable to get to! read more

I ordered a small serving of the fried chicken wings- half spicy and the other half not spicy. First of all, one of their staff was rather impatient and unfriendly. So I expect the food would be decent. But unfortunately, the not-spicy wings had really thick and dry crust; the spicy wings had extremely spicy sauce outside the thick crust, but the meat tasted like they didn't add any salt. This happened sever months ago like in March.If you like the Bon Chon in Cambridge and Boston you're gonna hate this one Unlike the other locations, their wings are by far the smallest I've ever seen(shorter than my pinkie lmao) we got the stone bowl bimbimbap and it tasted like reheated rice, so I asked the server and he replied " oh the other tables said that too haha" and walked away. Pricey, and nothing too exciting. I got a small order of boneless chicken wings, half soy garlic and half sweet crunch. I have never had Korean Fried Chicken before so I don't have much to compare this to, but I wasn't super impressed with either flavor. The boneless wings were similar to chicken nuggets in texture, which is fine, but I would say not enough sauce overall. The portions were large. I could have easily split the small one, which if I ever go back, that's exactly what I'll do because this place is not cheap. This is for two visits to this particular BonChon. I love Bonchon. I've been to multiple Bonchons in NYC, in the DC/Virginia/Norfolk area, and in Allston. I was excited about the Waltham location because Allston is always packed and parking is a bit more difficult. The first time I went here was around the first month of opening. It was pretty packed and the service was ok. But it was within the first month of opening, so I gave them a pass on service. The food was not ok. First, the wings only took 20 minutes to get to the table. This is odd because every other Bonchon has been closer to 35-45 minutes. Perhaps they already fried a bunch of wings and are only doing a second fry when customers order. And the wings are much smaller than the other Bonchons. We also had the Veggie Udon noodles and chicken Katsu. Both were ok, but we wouldn't order them again. I've had better Veggie Udon from the Instant Udon packs I buy from HMart. So fast forward to yesterday, Black Friday. After a day of online shopping, we decided to get some Bonchon. I called the Allston location first, but they were closed. That's right, I rather drive to Allston, which is twice is far away from Waltham and I have to pay the Mass Pike toll to and fro. Then I rationalized. Maybe they've improved since opening. Maybe they've seen all the reviews about small wings and took action. And I'm only doing takeout for wings. I order the X-large (30 wings) and it was $37 total. Already a red flag - The Allston BonChon charges $35 + tax for the XXL (40 pieces). We asked for half garlic/half spicy. They said it would be ready in 20 minutes. In 20 minutes, they can double-fry the wings, sauce them and package it up? We get home and the wings are still small. They leave the wing tip on the wing to make it look bigger. They are definitely not double frying it. It's not crispy like the other BonChons. I've had leftover wings hours later that were crispier than these wings out of the box. The sauce is fine - which I assume they just buy buckets of from HQ. And to top it off, they shortchanged me a wing! read more

I called to inform them of the mistake. My first time in this location and I really can't give it more than 3 stars. The food was subpar , the service as well and it's a shame that a new location of this franchise isn't doing it right. My udon soup barely had any flavor, my Salmon Avocado Rice Ball had 1 tiny piece of avocado in it and I almost needed a magnifying glass to find it. The salmon was extra thin and although they are supposed to lightly braise the top the whole thing tasted burnt. I called Bonchon multiple times with no response and had to contact Grubhub. Grubhub then told me that the store just closed at 3:20PM when I placed my order at 2:42PM. Major waste of time since I do not live close and totally unprofessional for them not to cancel my order in the beginning and not placing any notice for early closure.
