We stopped in with our kiddos today for a late lunch. We ordered our usual fair with added chicken for the littles. Now the food is always great. We love the food. The problem was when I reached into my wallet to leave a tip my wife said "no no...they already took out gratuity..over $13." I refused to pay that gratuity especially when I wasn't aware of any type of system ever being in place. They said when there are more than so many people they do it. How many I asked and no one could say. Nothing on menu, nothing written at tables and the waiter failed to speak about it. Why does this bother me? Mainly because one of the individuals in our party was 10 months old, another was 3 and 5. Where the older people in our party. I don't mind this directive in restaurants, especially nicer ones that take pride in service and product. I do have issues with lack of communication and including baby's as a way to garner more money from patrons. I wonder how many people just sign the bill without looking and leave gratuity on top of secretly enforced gratuity?? read more

This place is terrible. I went in to get take away and the service was terrible. We had to sit and wait for over an hour to get our take away. Even the guests dining at the restaurant were having to wait a long time. They were giving the guests dining at the restaurant free appetizers for the delays, but not us take away people sitting and waiting just as long. The time wasted waiting for our food we could have just dined there. The food was terrible. After waiting over an hour for fried chicken, they don't even provide the turnip that goes with the chicken. The whole point of this fried chicken is to be eaten with the turnip. This is supposedly a chain from Korea and Koreans would not have the turnip and fried chicken separate. The chicken was over fried and bland. I have eaten at a Bonchon chain in Thailand and it is nothing like the Katy location. The chicken here are full sized drumsticks compared to the buffalo sized chicken in Thailand. Hopefully, you don't have to go to Asia to try good Bonchon, but I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

I love Bonchon! I've been there with my coworkers four times. Each time during lunch. Only one of the times the service was poor and it seemed like they were understaffed. Otherwise the waiters have been attentive and served us our food promptly. EVERY time the food has been DELICIOUS. We order the potstickers as the appetizer and I've tried their Korean tacos(my favorite), bibimbap, bonchon wrap, chicken katsu, chicken strips, and the parm cheese fries(super crispy and yummy). My point is, no matter what we've ordered so far we haven't been disappointed. I highly recommend going to bonchon! read more

Back to one of my favorite places. I missed seeing my favorite person "Victor" he's quite amazing. I've been going here for a while now. I must visit at least one a month when I'm not too busy. I love love love the spicy chicken and the fried rice with the spicy sauce (I call it the game changer) simply amazing. Went with a couple of friends to have lunch. Had the following: *The $31.99 Large with 15 wings and 8 drumsticks: Half and Half (that's half Spicy and half Soy Garlic) really good. Crispy yet moist in the inside. The spicy definitely has a kick though so be careful! Only weird thing was the sizing of the chicken *The Salmon Avocado ball - Amazing!! Really liked it. There's cucumbers, bite sized chunks of avocado, salmon and crab meat. All topped with spicy mayo and unagi eel sauce. Topped with crispy panko. All my friends enjoyed this. *Spicy rice cakes - we didn't really enjoy this as much as we were quite full. But I didn't really like the mozzarella cheese on top. *Fries - not very crispy. Kinda mushy so was okay. *Daikon - comes with the meals. Not a big fan of it. But my friends usually like it but thought this was one chopped really big and thick. I'm extremely dissapointed with Bonchon. On Wednesday 4/11/18 We called and ordered for take out half an hour ahead because that was how long it took us to get from our house to there. When we got to the restaurant, they told us "we ran out of pre-cooked chicken wings, and will have to make your order from scratch, and that will take 20 minutes"... the problem is I called half an hour ago, something doesn't add up right? But I decided to wait because it took us 30 minutes to get there plus we had to pay all those tolls. When we got our food home, I found out that there were 10 wings and 5 drum sticks, we orderred 20 Wings!!! To top it off they didn't even cut the radish, it was a whole big piece. When I think only about the food, I want to give 5 stars. The service, however, would get 3 stars if I'm feeling generous. And the reason I'll generously give it that, is because even when they mess up - which is often - the staff here is very pleasant, friendly, and welcoming. First, the chicken is just delicious. This is literally the only restaurant I would keep coming to even after multiple instances of bad service. It's that good. The flavor is superb, the crispiness is amazing, and the meat inside is juicy. But just to give an idea of the issues we've experienced: 1. Literally EVERY time we've been here, a server has tried to deliver a dish to the wrong table (sometimes ours, other times a nearby table). 2. So far after 7 visits, our order has only been correct twice, and that's if you still count it "correct" after they've tried to serve you food that some other table ordered. All the other times, they've either given us the wrong quantity of each flavor, or actually brought us our order with several pieces of chicken missing (this in particular has happened 3x)! 3. Thankfully this final issue only happened once...but we were seated and waited several minutes for our server. After that wait time, another party was seated next to us, and their server came out to take their order within about 2 minutes. We still waited a few more minutes, but no one came to take our order. That third experience was saved by the owner coming to our table and apologizing (because asked to speak with him). He made sure our order was placed right away and we got delicious, fresh chicken. I thought that was a satisfactory way to handle it, though most savvy restaurant owners would take care of it better - by either offering a discount or complimentary drinks, sides, or dessert. That being said, he's an incredibly nice guy, so I didn't mind that his handling of the situation was just "good enough" rather than stellar. Despite the problems we've had, my wife and I keep coming back, at least weekly. We just consider it a running joke that we can place bets as to exactly what they'll get wrong. The food really is good enough to endure that, which is saying something! One last thing: if you don't try the seasoned fries you are missing out. Some wings and/or drums with their seasoned fries might be one of the tastiest meals you'll ever have. This place definitely needs improvement. I've had Bonchon before when I was in NYC and I thought it was the bomb so when I heard it was coming to Katy, I was really excited. When I first went to New York, I was 22 years old and naive. Since then, I've tried many other places that serve Korean fried chicken but I always had Bonchon in the back of my mind. We ordered the combo #2, half and half, chicken katsu, along with a side of regular fries. We were seated in a two top right in front of the kitchen, which we were completely fine with..no big deal. But our experience there wasn't as great as we hoped it would be. First off, the place is still brand new and the staff is still learning but I didn't see a single manager there out on the floor managing. I was seated facing the kitchen doors so I saw the servers going in and out of that kitchen. All the servers looked super confused right as they walked through those doors trying to drop off food to the tables. Our server (forgive me, I can't remember his name) was very talkative and super friendly and also awkward at times. Apparently, our table number was switched with another table who also ordered the same thing we did so a lot of our food that we ordered first actually went to that other table instead. -_____- We also heard the servers talking and confusing one another in the back and people were also dropping glasses and plates everywhere..it was pretty bad/awkward to watch. As I'm scanning the place, I also noticed a couple of other tables who were just as frustrated..if not worse. Food took almost 30-45 min. to come out with no explanation. Took advantage of a road trip to from Austin to Houston to stop in at the new, highly-anticipated Katy Bonchon. The fried chicken is scrumptious, as you would expect, although it could have been fried a tad longer - some of the skin was still rubbery and thick. We got half spicy and half soy garlic. We like spicy food but the spicy was a bit too much for our tastes. Next time we will do a plate of soy garlic. We got a medium combo order, and we were surprised at how much food it was. The sides were not so great. The bibimbap was not very good - the stone bowl wasn't hot enough to crisp the rice, and the amount of chicken (which was an upcharge) was minimal. And it had an unexpected amount of mushrooms, which isn't traditional and which was not ideal for our group of non-mushroom-lovers. We also got the japchae - it was basically a small plate of stir fried noodles with veggies and beef. Nothing special, and not worth $13.95. We've been here several times since it opened, and have not been disappointed! The food is on point every time and soooo delicious!!! Service was a little rocky our first time but these last couple times have been great and this is definitely one of our new favorite places to go! I was really looking forward to Bonchon's opening. I came in on Saturday of their soft opening during lunch and there was about a 15 minute wait. We ordered a medium combo (wings + drumsticks) with half and half (soy garlic + spicy) and an order of the Parmesan fries. Wings: crispy but not as crispy as Dak & Bop is. Really enjoyed the soy garlic flavor and spicy isn't really that spicy (maybe that's because I can handle spicy??) all the wings were pretty decent size and around the same size as well. Fries: did not like the texture. Reminds me of spicy fries. Would have enjoyed them better if they weren't rough. Overall, the service still needs to be worked on. It seems that they haven't fully trained their staff but I accepted how it was since they just opened. Wings are good, but kind of overpriced. (In my opinion) will probably come back however. My boyfriend wanted to try this place out as he said he has pass through it a few times. The parking lot is spacious and there was plenty of parking available for a Wednesday night. Me being Korean I had high expectations of this place. Because I know how Korean chicken suppose to taste like. One thing I hate is if I get a fried chicken and it's not piping hot.
