I was super excited when I saw Bonchon was coming to Katy, but wasn't blown away. For the wings, the spicy is SPICY and overwhelms your tastebuds. The soy garlic is pretty good, but not the best sauce I've had (I personally like Hoodadak wayyy better). The seasoned fries are good...but they're fries. I was excited to try the tteokbokki (rice cakes with spicy sauce) but it was WAY too spicy. For some reason, the spice level is just way too high to be enjoyable (and I like spicy foods). Overall, a bit disappointing. Opt for Hooddadak instead. read more

This used to be one of my favorite spot, but it's changed a lot. The bulldak is no longer spicy, comes with hardly any of their spicy sauce, and the rice cakes have changed. They are now using sliced rice cakes and they come out way too tough to eat. read more

Came with high expectations because the one in Dallas was not good!! Bon Chon is a franchise so not all locations are going to be up to par, which is probably the reason why the Dallas location didn't survive. There are only 2 flavors for the wings, spicy and soy garlic. The wings were perfect and what you would expect from NYC. Ordered 40 wings and they came out pretty fast. Hot and extremely crispy. Both flavors were equally honorable. Most people will get confused with the way the half and half is presented on the menu. It looks as if it would be a third flavor which sounds like a fusion of the soy garlic and spicy, but it's really splitting your order to try both flavors. So in my case ordering 40 half and half wings would be 20 spicy and 20 soy garlic. The service was kind of wack. Mainly because our waitress seemed like she was high on drugs, but we came to believe that was just how her personalty was. She had a full pitcher of water, but would only refill our cups halfway.. that was kind of annoying considering the spicy wings are kind of hot..She also realized she forgot to give us our complimentary Daikon halfway through the meal. The daikon is extremely helpful to balance out the spiciness. Also they are not allowing togo or pickup orders until their grand opening. read more

Hype train derailed. The place was understaffed for the volume of customers showing up. We came in as soon as they opened for lunch, were seated, and had our orders promptly taken. Not long afterwards, the waiter informed us that we had to wait 30 minutes for the chicken since they hadn't prepared them yet. I thought ingredient prepping is supposed to be done before the doors open. The party sitting next to us even had their order forgotten. Onto the food. The japchae was bland, and it was a tiny portion size for $13. The chicken, while crispy and flavorful on the outside, was very bland and oily in the meat. I'm not sure if you are supposed to marinate the meat ahead of time, but it just tasted off. Also, the meat had soaked up a lot of oil. It was almost like it had been fried in cold oil. I'm tempted to be lenient because they just opened and some things may still need to be ironed out, but it is a chain after all. read more

The service was fairly good, right when we walked in we were seated immediately, although the tables were too close together....I could practically reach over and place my hand on the other parties table! We ordered the shrimp shumai, takoyaki, and wings (half soy garlic and half spicy). Shrimp Shumai (1/5), the shumai was not shumai at all, it was all gooey and tasted basically like a deviled egg, the sauce (mayo) they place onto it helps with masking the taste of the actual shumai but other than that I wouldn't order this again due to it not tasting like shrimp at all. Adding soy sauce does help, but for a $7 plate, I expected better. Takoyaki (2/5), with these octopus balls you shouldn't even consider it octopus balls with it barely having any of it inside of them. The taste of it was okay, just not to my expectations. Wings (half and half) (5/5!), we ordered the soy garlic and spicy wings, which in reality was a mixture of drumsticks and wings, they were more on the crispy side than crunchy but tasted great anyways. The soy garlic had a nice sweet tang to it while the spicy was tolerable and tasty. Overall, we will be back for probably only the wings. The appetizers are quite overpriced and not the best, maybe it's because they're new so hopefully they'll step it up in food quality! read more

I really like this place! The chicken had good flavor but because of the size of the big drums can actually end up being slightly cold on the inside which isn't my favorite! I've been waiting for Bon Chon to come to Houston for a looooong time. But no amount of love and anticipation for this place could keep me from cringing during today's visit - which was, undoubtedly, one of the most awkward and disastrous soft openings I have ever attended. Being a soft opening, I can understand the slower-than-usual service and I have no problem cutting some slack for that, but the staff seemed so flustered and just flat-out confused. They were drenched in sweat (come to think of it, was the A/C even working??), delivering food to the wrong tables, and gathered up in a panicked mass around the register. Unlike some of their grumbling, more impatient and less considerate patrons, my sister and I offered encouraging smiles and tried to be as understanding as possible, but we could definitely tell the Bon Chon staff was overwhelmed and unprepared. Food-wise, I'm pretty psyched with Bon Chon's menu. Aside from wings, there's some traditional offerings like Tteokbokki (chewy rice cakes, wheat noodles, and fish cake in red pepper sauce), Kimchi Pancakes, Bibimbap, Japchae (glass noodle + veggie stir fry), etc.; as well as more Americanized dishes like Korean Tacos, Bulgogi Sliders, Popcorn Chicken, etc. They also have a few of these dishes offered for cheap on their Lunch Menu on Mon-Fri from 11:30-3. + KOREAN TACOS : 3 per order. Can get chicken OR bulgogi (+$1), spicy OR non. These were good, but I felt like they needed more sauce. Our server explained that ordering the tacos "spicy" adds more flavor, so I def recommend ordering spicy! I'm pretty ashamed I didn't do that in the first place... + KIMCHI PANCAKE TRIO : 3 pancakes per order, comes with sesame soy sauce, red chili sauce, and sautéed spinach. Good vegetarian option. A little on the salty side, but not bad. + CHICKEN WANGZ : This is Bon Chon's crowned jewel, and yaaaass baby, they should be! Satisfyingly crispy on the outside, moist on the inside, and perfectly sauced up. You can order Soy Garlic, Spicy, or Half & Half. Beware - when Bon Chon says "spicy," they sure as hell mean it. A lady next to me started coughing after one bite - pssssh, weak. I embraced it. Burns so bad but hurts so good! The only thing that turned me off were the varying sizes of chicken: there was one huge-ass dumbstick, then all these itty-bitty drumsticks and mid-sized wings all randomly thrown together. Though, they did stay crispy even after taking them home to eat later - impressive! Being a chain, I'm sure Bon Chon will get their 'ish together in time, but at least, as expected, their food is solid. Go with an open mind and some patience in tow, and you'll get the K.F.C (Korean fried chicken) this city has been waiting for. Tried Bonchon a few months ago as they were in the area. Ambiance was decent and they were busy. Fried chicken was a little on the dry side and not very spicy. The seasoned fries were ok to good but you can't really screw up fries. I don't remember what else we ordered because it was not all that memorable but it was some type of spicy chicken stir fried. Finally!! I am able to try Bon Chon at this Katy location! The first time I ever tried Bon Chon was in Bangkok, Thailand and it blew me out of the water. It had to of been the best fried chicken my friends and I have ever eaten! Well, 2 weeks previous... we were on a trip to secluded islands, eating traditional Thai food, so something modern was so delightful to our palate. So...Bon Chon is already at a high pedestal to me. With high expectations... I drive to the Katy Bon Chon early Thursday evening. With any new store opening and fresh Hype, there was a line. The wait was about 30 minutes. The hostesses and waiters were highly attentive. When we are finally seated, we already knew what we were going to order. A medium half & half. If you have not ever had this chicken before just Imagine the crispiest, fluffiest fried chicken you've ever eaten, tossed in a sticky, spicy, sweet sauce. Pair it with delicious creamy kimchi coleslaw and you have a winning combination! There are only 2 flavors you can order. (1) Spicey - Def. has a kick to it and will guarantee beads of sweat to form on your forehead. Be prepared to annoy your waiter with extra glasses of water. lol (2) Soy Garlic- It is Savory and Sweet. It is probably the go-to choice for first timers. It's a Great unique flavor! The chicken was great! It was waaay bigger than I last remembered! I did have it in Thailand however, where they probably used farm raised chicken that weren't injected with whatever US poultry are injected with. lol I was thoroughly satisfied with this visit! A couple day's later, still with my Bon Chon high, I wanted to bring my family to try some! Sunday afternoon, we drove through the torrential downpour and flooding that was happening in the area. After about an hour of driving at a steady speed limit of 35mph with the hazards blinking all the way through, we finally arrive to Bon Chon. The place was half empty!! Thank You rain! But the customer service was below par this time. No one was working the front, so we had to wait about 5 minutes to be seated. I actually had to go up to someone to ask to be seated! When we finally sat down, it was clear that our waitress was new and had never done this before. We were utterly disappointed with her service. She was not attentive to our table whatsoever. A waitress working other tables actually helped us more than she did. It was so hard to get a water refill and utensils even. She probably only visited our table twice. To take our order, and to bring us the check. Unacceptable. I did notice, however, The owner provided excellent Customer Service. I did see him go out to cars holding a couple of giant umbrellas, so the customer's wouldn't get drenched in the rain. That was awesome. I applaud this man, and his hard work. He is humble, hard working, and will attend to any need you may have. I wish him and his business great success. Now back to our waitress... She needs a little bit more training. I think she should shadow a more experienced one a little bit longer. It took 20 minutes for us to pay our check. After observing her take a phone call, a couple conversations with another waitress, and a few bites of food from inside the kitchen, she finally gives us our card back. BonChon's chicken does not disappoint, in fact I would have given it 5 stars but the service during this second visit was just terrible. I will def. come back though, because I can see this is just part of the ups and downs of new businesses. They have a few kinks to fix, and in due time, it will get fixed! I love this place the first visit with my friend and noticed something different and I booked the karaoke room for 2 hours, but the reservation fee per hour was so expensive, we though, is only $30.00 but it turns $40.00, but the food is good the Soju is good. I have been wanting to try the Soju for a long time, but no flavor of the Korean store when I bough it. This Soju 101 places was so good and has a different flavor. We have fun singing. We ordered the medium combo with has large drumsticks and wings, for the sauce we ordered half half which is their spicy and their garlic soy. Order came out within 10 minutes unlike dak and bop who usually takes 30 minutes. It wasn't bad at all... the taste was good but was missing something. It was crispy and a bit hard, I'm thinking it was partially fried beforehand and upon ordering it gets refried and drenched in sauce so therefore some parts of the ckn was hard and dry. The place could be kept up a little better, or maybe we came after the lunch rush... the floor was pretty dirty with a lot of trash laying around. Had dinner at the soft opening. The restaurant was mostly full on a Tuesday night. A good sign. The seasoned fries are very good. Some of the best fries I have had. Crispy, hot, and perfectly seasoned. A good sized portion, served with ketchup for dipping. We ordered a 20 chicken strips, half with spicy sauce, half with soy/garlic. Both were tasty, but the spicy was my favorite. The spicy lived up the name. Hot and sweet. The soy/garlic were a bit too tame for me. The batter is crispy and keeps the chicken juicy. The only thing wrong at dinner was that half the 20 piece order was warm, the other half was scalding hot. I am sure this is a process issue they will work out. Service was excellent. Our server was friendly and attentive. Drinks were refilled quickly and we were checked on multiple times. This place has a full bar, and draft beer. read more

We decided to just sit at the bar since we could see that all the tables were full. The bartender was so kind and helpful. We ordered the chicken, half spicy and half soy garlic. The spicy chicken is actually quite...SPICY, lol. I really liked it though. Could only eat two pieces because they were big...and spicy. I found the soy garlic chicken to be a little too sweet for my taste but it contrasts well with the spicy. We also ordered the fried rice and seasoned fries. Wings are delicious. I went during their soft opening awhile back and I will say, yes, the wait was horrendous. They ran out of items that they shouldn't have- like the chicken. So they had to marinade a new batch which takes awhile. Do I fault them? No because they didn't realize how inundated they were going to get. That's a great sign that people want to try them out. Bad for service? Sure but keep in mind, it was their soft opening- a time where they figure out what works and what doesn't. I waited over an hour for my food at the time- thank goodness for the bar LOL. Once I did receive my wings, I was pretty content with what was put in front of me. I'm giving it three stars for now because we only ordered Japchae and the original soy garlic chicken combo. I would say, comparing to the other Bonchons I've had in other countries, I've had better. To be fair, the menu is different. Same food chain, little tweaks in their offerings. I will definitely still come back to try the other stuff in their menu. It was obvious they just opened, so the staff was a bit all over the place. They weren't sure who's waiting what table... The people on the table next to us didn't get entertained for about 20minutes. I know because I heard him complain about it. While our time and service were pretty much okay, we did have 2-3 staff coming back and forth and getting confused if our orders have been taken or not, someone gave us our bill and another person took it and they confused themselves. I'm sure they'll do better with practice! One important note though, and I hope this gets to the management, we were being served by a lady who seemed like she could benefit from wiping sweat and putting her hair away from her face before serving food.. My family and I literally live less than 5 mins away from this plaza and we love Bonchon! One of the awesome servers even recognized us! The service is outstanding. Literally, they are so upbeat and just ready to cater to their clients! I haven't gone during dinner yet, but lunch time hasn't been too hectic so I haven't endured the horrendous wait. We usually just order the wings and fries. One time I tried the broken glass noodle dish, and wasn't too impressed for the price. I would gladly return for the chicken. My only disappointment from this establishment is that I recently came thirty minutes after opening. We sat down, ordered, I got up to use the restroom, returned and checked one email to look up to see our food was served. That was ridiculously fast. One of our chickens looked like it was reheated so we tried that piece and another one only to find out the meat was dry and warm. It wasn't hot as if it just finished cooking. We mentioned it to the waiter, he insisted it was just cooked by happily redid our order. I was so relieved he did that because again, they have amazing service! I have been waiting for this place to open up for months. So excited that I caught the soft opening this week. Korean fried chicken has been subpar In Houston so far except for Tore ore in HMart. I ordered the wings and the strips half and half (half spicy half soy ginger). The menu stated that the wings were made to order so it could take 30 mins to get your order however even with a full restaurant, our orders came out pretty quick. First few bites were awesome. Perfect crisp, nice flavor...then the heat hits. Holy moly the "spicy" is spicy (I'm talking Thai gourmet 3-4 peppers spicy) My coworker can usually do spicy pretty well but he was crying. Even my husband who eats extra spicy crawfish at crawfish cafe needed milk and he's lactose intolerant! Thank goodness for the pickled radish to help tone down the heat. I only managed 4 wings and had to stop. Soy ginger flavor was awesome though. The fries were also great. Bonchon has a terrific fryer. Advice to the establishment higher ups: offer different levels of spiciness so you don't lose patrons who can't handle the only intensity of spiciness u currently offer and u'll have better luck keeping folks coming back (i.e. Dallas) I'm sure there r many ppl like me that like spicy but also like to feel our lips at the end of the meal read more

We went here on Sunday afternoon 8/22/21 and there was one two tables being used currently it said to wait to be seated we waited for at least 10 minutes and saw some staff walking in and out of kitchen no one acknowledged us even once. We decided to seat ourselves took 15 mins for someone to come over and give us Menus she said "oh I thought y'all had Already ordered. We didn't even have drinks so not sure how that would have been possible. While we were they so many tables got sat for only two servers they couldn't keep up it was terrible took forEVER to get our food a though the food was still tasty the service the last couple of visits will prevent me from coming here anymore, on top of that we asked for our bill split from the beginning and she didn't do that causing us to wait even longer and the server charged gratuity on the bill they have never done that before, this place was on our regular Sunday lunch rotation so I'm positive unless they suddenly started charging gratuity this week and included my two year old who ate one wing?? The high chairs were so sticky and dirty we had to ask the server to clean it and that took so long we ended up just letting out two year old sit by us. Just overall terrible experience and service and it's a shame how downhill this place has gone because like I said we have visited this location often. read more

I brought my mom here because she and I had heard this place was pretty good. We arrived right at 11:00 am when they were supposed to open and we watched employees stand around inside for an additional 5 minutes prior to even unlocking the door. When we finally did go in , the floor was extremely sticky and crumbs were on the floor as if no one swept or mopped the night prior. My mother and I both ordered a combo off of the lunch special with different flavors of wings, nothing was labeled to tell us which box was which. They gave us both the same flavor. Highly disappointed especially when you really have a taste for something and it's not up to par. Katy location needs to do better at cleaning and looking at the order and makes sure it's correct before giving it to their customers. read more
