The food may be good, but the bartender who took my takeout order messed up EVERYTHING about the order -- the name, which order, the choice of hot&spicy VS half&half, and to top it all off, ONE of my order (out of two) was missing. I specifically asked him to verify the order before leaving the premise. I found out the missing order when I got home. Reading from the rest of the review, it seems that this is a common occurrence. This is one great way to lose a business. read more

Hype train derailed. The place was understaffed for the volume of customers showing up. We came in as soon as they opened for lunch, were seated, and had our orders promptly taken. Not long afterwards, the waiter informed us that we had to wait 30 minutes for the chicken since they hadn't prepared them yet. I thought ingredient prepping is supposed to be done before the doors open. The party sitting next to us even had their order forgotten. Onto the food. The japchae was bland, and it was a tiny portion size for $13. The chicken, while crispy and flavorful on the outside, was very bland and oily in the meat. I'm not sure if you are supposed to marinate the meat ahead of time, but it just tasted off. Also, the meat had soaked up a lot of oil. It was almost like it had been fried in cold oil. I'm tempted to be lenient because they just opened and some things may still need to be ironed out, but it is a chain after all. read more

My husband, despite my many warnings and reminders failed to place our chicken wing order for Super Bowl Sunday ahead of time. Enter Bonchon to the rescue! I've only had their wings so my 5 star review is based solely on that. Right before the start of half time on SuperBowl Sunday (it took all of the first half for me to finish complaining about the lack of chicken wings in my tummy), my husband placed a to go order over the phone. He was back at home with a steaming order of half spicy and half soy by the time Gaga was done telling folks about her poker face. Bonchon does not take the term spicy lightly. The dang spicy wings are spicy. Like burn your stomach open spicy. You'll want to stop eating them but they hurt so good!! They were crunchy yet saucy, spicy yet savory, and perfectly sized. It was love at first taste. And if the spicy is too spicy feel free to wuss out - I mean cool down the spice - by dipping them in ranch. The soy wings were delicious as well. Wonderful flavor and perfectly cooked. But obviously spicy was my favorite. My daughter was able to enjoy them as well. The only downside, if I had to find one, is that they are a little pricy. I will definitely be back - maybe during the day to take advantage of their lunch specials. Highly recommend! read more

My new favorite place to get Korean fried chicken!! There are only two sauces you can get, soy garlic and spicy, or if you want a mix combination of both, half/half. Made the mistake of ordering spicy the first time and was filled with so much regrets! It is definitely for people who enjoy spicy. The soy garlic is so flavorful and the the batter is literally soaked in it. The way they fry the chicken also makes it incredibly crispy and every bite is filled with flavorful bursts to remind you of the good life. Every time we go, we always order the combo of legs and wings. In my opinion, the thighs/ legs are way too big to make it enjoyable. They're also not as packed with flavor like the wings. We also order the jap chai on top of our order which is like clear noodles mixed with bulgogi meat, mushroom, carrots, onions and etc. Definitely recommend that as well. They also have mixed lemonade beverages (mango lemonade, etc.) and it's free refills. However, they take some time to make so you don't really get an instant refill. Service was great and attentive. Cook time was fair, not too long of a wait. read more

I've been waiting for Bon Chon to come to Houston for a looooong time. But no amount of love and anticipation for this place could keep me from cringing during today's visit - which was, undoubtedly, one of the most awkward and disastrous soft openings I have ever attended. Being a soft opening, I can understand the slower-than-usual service and I have no problem cutting some slack for that, but the staff seemed so flustered and just flat-out confused. They were drenched in sweat (come to think of it, was the A/C even working??), delivering food to the wrong tables, and gathered up in a panicked mass around the register. Unlike some of their grumbling, more impatient and less considerate patrons, my sister and I offered encouraging smiles and tried to be as understanding as possible, but we could definitely tell the Bon Chon staff was overwhelmed and unprepared. Food-wise, I'm pretty psyched with Bon Chon's menu. Aside from wings, there's some traditional offerings like Tteokbokki (chewy rice cakes, wheat noodles, and fish cake in red pepper sauce), Kimchi Pancakes, Bibimbap, Japchae (glass noodle + veggie stir fry), etc.; as well as more Americanized dishes like Korean Tacos, Bulgogi Sliders, Popcorn Chicken, etc. They also have a few of these dishes offered for cheap on their Lunch Menu on Mon-Fri from 11:30-3. + KOREAN TACOS : 3 per order. Can get chicken OR bulgogi (+$1), spicy OR non. These were good, but I felt like they needed more sauce. Our server explained that ordering the tacos "spicy" adds more flavor, so I def recommend ordering spicy! I'm pretty ashamed I didn't do that in the first place... + KIMCHI PANCAKE TRIO : 3 pancakes per order, comes with sesame soy sauce, red chili sauce, and sautéed spinach. Good vegetarian option. A little on the salty side, but not bad. + CHICKEN WANGZ : This is Bon Chon's crowned jewel, and yaaaass baby, they should be! Satisfyingly crispy on the outside, moist on the inside, and perfectly sauced up. You can order Soy Garlic, Spicy, or Half & Half. Beware - when Bon Chon says "spicy," they sure as hell mean it. A lady next to me started coughing after one bite - pssssh, weak. I embraced it. Burns so bad but hurts so good! The only thing that turned me off were the varying sizes of chicken: there was one huge-ass dumbstick, then all these itty-bitty drumsticks and mid-sized wings all randomly thrown together. Though, they did stay crispy even after taking them home to eat later - impressive! Being a chain, I'm sure Bon Chon will get their 'ish together in time, but at least, as expected, their food is solid. Go with an open mind and some patience in tow, and you'll get the K.F.C (Korean fried chicken) this city has been waiting for. Bon Chon didn't work out in Dallas; here's to hoping Houston will be a better host! read more

Great food! Chicken, fries, and edamame never fails. Try the peach soju. Ethan provided awesome service!

Came with high expectations because the one in Dallas was not good!! Bon Chon is a franchise so not all locations are going to be up to par, which is probably the reason why the Dallas location didn't survive. There are only 2 flavors for the wings, spicy and soy garlic. The wings were perfect and what you would expect from NYC. Ordered 40 wings and they came out pretty fast. Hot and extremely crispy. Both flavors were equally honorable. Most people will get confused with the way the half and half is presented on the menu. It looks as if it would be a third flavor which sounds like a fusion of the soy garlic and spicy, but it's really splitting your order to try both flavors. So in my case ordering 40 half and half wings would be 20 spicy and 20 soy garlic. The service was kind of wack. Mainly because our waitress seemed like she was high on drugs, but we came to believe that was just how her personalty was. She had a full pitcher of water, but would only refill our cups halfway.. that was kind of annoying considering the spicy wings are kind of hot..She also realized she forgot to give us our complimentary Daikon halfway through the meal. The daikon is extremely helpful to balance out the spiciness. Also they are not allowing togo or pickup orders until their grand opening. read more

I had Bonchon once many years ago while visiting family on the east coast and was SO excited to hear that the franchise had finally made its way to Texas. Well, I came here last weekend because I was in the area and I was sorely disappointed. I picked up takeout, so my review is for my experience regarding this service. When you first walk into Bonchon, you are greeted by a hostess. If you want to order takeout, you are directed toward the bar. I was given a menu and told to take a seat. I sat and couldn't figure out who was supposed to take my order. No one made eye contact with me or smiled welcomingly. Finally, after getting up and walking to the register, a young man told me that the lady at the end of the counter would help me. I placed an order for a medium box, which includes 10 wings and 5 drums (~$24). I opted for half spicy and half soy garlic as my flavors of choice- beware! The spicy is not for the faint hearted. It's got a kick and it lingers. After placing my order, I asked how long the wait would be. The waitress told me that she couldn't tell me. Hmm isn't that a pretty standard question when requesting takeaway? This should have been my first tip that this place doesn't quite have it together yet. When pressed further, she said possibly 20-30 min. After about 20 min, my order came out and I got ready to pay. I thought it was weird that my $25 order of chicken consisted of one small takeout box so I looked inside and discovered that my 5 drums had been left out entirely. Luckily, we were still in the parking lot so we were able to go back inside to get the rest of our order. Took the food to go so it might not be the most accurate taste representation, but the chicken was kind of soggy and not crisp by the time we got home and dug in. The spicy is spicy and the soy garlic is sweet and sticky. Both flavors are extremely salty. The drums are gigantic (actual drumsticks); be careful when eating these as the bones kind of shatter a bit when fried and could pose a choking hazard. The food was... Okay. Not the amazingness that I had previously remembered it to be. I was disappointed. This is not a place I would return to on my own dime. read more

Overall the chicken was ok, but definitely over priced there beef sliders and the French fried were good. Also, shockingly the fried rice wasn't good at all, its missing a lot of flavor because tasted kind of bland. I'm glad I finally tried it but I doubt if I will god back. read more

The service was fairly good, right when we walked in we were seated immediately, although the tables were too close together....I could practically reach over and place my hand on the other parties table! We ordered the shrimp shumai, takoyaki, and wings (half soy garlic and half spicy). Shrimp Shumai (1/5), the shumai was not shumai at all, it was all gooey and tasted basically like a deviled egg, the sauce (mayo) they place onto it helps with masking the taste of the actual shumai but other than that I wouldn't order this again due to it not tasting like shrimp at all. Adding soy sauce does help, but for a $7 plate, I expected better. Takoyaki (2/5), with these octopus balls you shouldn't even consider it octopus balls with it barely having any of it inside of them. The taste of it was okay, just not to my expectations. Wings (half and half) (5/5!), we ordered the soy garlic and spicy wings, which in reality was a mixture of drumsticks and wings, they were more on the crispy side than crunchy but tasted great anyways. The soy garlic had a nice sweet tang to it while the spicy was tolerable and tasty. Overall, we will be back for probably only the wings. The appetizers are quite overpriced and not the best, maybe it's because they're new so hopefully they'll step it up in food quality! read more

We have been there a couple of times now. The first time was during the soft opening and we were understanding of the delays and confusion. The last time, last week, we went and there were still delays and confusion. The table next to us had a very upsetting experience with food and with the wait staff. Then our food came after a lengthy wait with the appetizer we ordered earlier coming after the meal. When we commented to our waiter they stated the food comes out like this all the time. If this is the case I do not see them creating repeat customers but instead continuing to struggle. We had no issues with the taste of the food. The timing for food and confusion of the waitstaff is what is driving my rating. read more

the spicy chicken fried rice is AMAZING! A friend of ours said this place was good. His opinion is no longer valid. As we first walked in noticed that there wasn't anyone behind the bar. Never saw anybody back there the whole time so glad we decided to get a table. Also the place was 1/3 full but tables were still dirty and had dishes. It's definitely short staffed there was only 1 server, nice guy though. As for the food we ordered the Takoyaki, mixed wings, pork buns and Tteokbokki. First the takoyaki was nothing but a big ball full of mayonnaise with a tiny piece of octopus, definitely pass unless you like eating mayonnaise by the spoonful. Pork buns had a tiny square of pork that was mostly fat, so another pass. I understand they don't have to put a giant slice of pork in them but to be mostly fat is a little ridiculous. The wings where decent had good amount of flavor and extra crispy. The Tteokbokki was also decent. We had 5 dollar goblet drinks as well 1 Long Island and a rum punch. Full of ice could barely taste anything in the rum punch. Long Island on the other hand tasted like just vodka and water on ice. The first experience wasn't good doubt we'll return. read more

Finally!! I am able to try Bon Chon at this Katy location! The first time I ever tried Bon Chon was in Bangkok, Thailand and it blew me out of the water. It had to of been the best fried chicken my friends and I have ever eaten! Well, 2 weeks previous... we were on a trip to secluded islands, eating traditional Thai food, so something modern was so delightful to our palate. So...Bon Chon is already at a high pedestal to me. With high expectations... I drive to the Katy Bon Chon early Thursday evening. With any new store opening and fresh Hype, there was a line. The wait was about 30 minutes. The hostesses and waiters were highly attentive. When we are finally seated, we already knew what we were going to order. A medium half & half. If you have not ever had this chicken before just Imagine the crispiest, fluffiest fried chicken you've ever eaten, tossed in a sticky, spicy, sweet sauce. Pair it with delicious creamy kimchi coleslaw and you have a winning combination! There are only 2 flavors you can order. (1) Spicey - Def. has a kick to it and will guarantee beads of sweat to form on your forehead. Be prepared to annoy your waiter with extra glasses of water. lol (2) Soy Garlic- It is Savory and Sweet. It is probably the go-to choice for first timers. It's a Great unique flavor! The chicken was great! It was waaay bigger than I last remembered! I did have it in Thailand however, where they probably used farm raised chicken that weren't injected with whatever US poultry are injected with. lol I was thoroughly satisfied with this visit! A couple day's later, still with my Bon Chon high, I wanted to bring my family to try some! Sunday afternoon, we drove through the torrential downpour and flooding that was happening in the area. After about an hour of driving at a steady speed limit of 35mph with the hazards blinking all the way through, we finally arrive to Bon Chon. The place was half empty!! Thank You rain! But the customer service was below par this time. No one was working the front, so we had to wait about 5 minutes to be seated. I actually had to go up to someone to ask to be seated! When we finally sat down, it was clear that our waitress was new and had never done this before. We were utterly disappointed with her service. She was not attentive to our table whatsoever. A waitress working other tables actually helped us more than she did. It was so hard to get a water refill and utensils even. She probably only visited our table twice. To take our order, and to bring us the check. Unacceptable. I did notice, however, The owner provided excellent Customer Service. I did see him go out to cars holding a couple of giant umbrellas, so the customer's wouldn't get drenched in the rain. That was awesome. I applaud this man, and his hard work. He is humble, hard working, and will attend to any need you may have. I wish him and his business great success. Now back to our waitress... She needs a little bit more training. I think she should shadow a more experienced one a little bit longer. It took 20 minutes for us to pay our check. After observing her take a phone call, a couple conversations with another waitress, and a few bites of food from inside the kitchen, she finally gives us our card back. BonChon's chicken does not disappoint, in fact I would have given it 5 stars but the service during this second visit was just terrible. I will def. come back though, because I can see this is just part of the ups and downs of new businesses. They have a few kinks to fix, and in due time, it will get fixed! To the owner and his family! I can see that you truly made this your family business! Great job, and wishing yall nothing but the best. read more

If you love fried chicken and want to venture out a little bit, give this place a shot. It is Korean fried chicken. My husband and I are addicted. We have tried the takoyaki and japchae from here, but they were just meh. I wouldn't really order anything else but the chicken. The drumsticks is where it's at. The chicken is crispy and crunchy, but not overly battered. They must use corn or potato starch to fry it with because it is the perfect amount of crispiness. Even though it is fried, it is not greasy at all. You can get it sauced with soy garlic, spicy, or half and half. We usually opt for the half and half. The soy garlic is delicious, especially with rice. The spicy is the "hurt so good" kind of spicy. It starts off mild and ends with a kick. So freaking good. We enjoyed the chicken so much, we got it three times in a week. We have only picked it up to go and not dined it. When I did pick up, it seemed that there weren't many servers around. Although I had placed my order over the phone, it still took a little while for someone to acknowledge me and ask if I was dining in or picking up. You shouldn't leave your customers waiting around. Although the chicken is delicious, also be aware that it is on the pricier side. We usually order 10 drumsticks, but it costs around the $25 mark. Try it first and judge for yourself! My family will still probably eat here regularly. read more

Had dinner at the soft opening. The restaurant was mostly full on a Tuesday night. A good sign. The seasoned fries are very good. Some of the best fries I have had. Crispy, hot, and perfectly seasoned. A good sized portion, served with ketchup for dipping. We ordered a 20 chicken strips, half with spicy sauce, half with soy/garlic. Both were tasty, but the spicy was my favorite. The spicy lived up the name. Hot and sweet. The soy/garlic were a bit too tame for me. The batter is crispy and keeps the chicken juicy. The only thing wrong at dinner was that half the 20 piece order was warm, the other half was scalding hot. I am sure this is a process issue they will work out. Service was excellent. Our server was friendly and attentive. Drinks were refilled quickly and we were checked on multiple times. This place has a full bar, and draft beer. read more

Like a big bug. Someone in our party almost ate it had it not been for my keen observations skills for saving the day. We came out from the Main Event and the name of this place caught my eye "Korean Fried Chicken" The name of the restaurant was very attractive - too bad the food was not Their specialty is the Korean fried chicken - Spicy or soy garlic? Spicy version (way too spicy) soy garlic version (didn't get a hint of garlic, and a little soy) basically dip your wings on soy sauce then dipped in bland batter then fry it. (its that simple) - TIP: Do not order drumsticks (way too dry) Popcorn chicken - burnt and dry Salmon avocado ball - a big ball of chopped up cucumber salad with LITTLE avocado and a very thin salmon on top. Not sure why it was greasy (guessing from grilling the salmon) Pork Buns - Totally not worth the price - 3 buns with a small piece of dry pork, veggies and sauce. For $10.95 I better get meat on every bite. This reminded me of Mcdonald's Big Mac. Open the bun and there's your tiny little patty. Japchae - WAAAAAAAAYYYYY too much sesame oil. It should be called sesame oil with noodles. Edamame - Its really hard to mess this up but the edamame was old - maybe stored in the freezer for too long? The only thing I liked was the pickled radish!!! which its complementary from the chicken wings. read more

The Chicken Drum sticks and the Kim Che Cole Slaw. Absolutely delicious. I could have eaten a whole chicken!

Bonchon offers two wing flavors: spicy & soy garlic. I recommend getting half & half cause you'll need a buffer when the spicy gets too spicy! I can only eat 2-3 wings before I have to switch over to the garlic soy. the spicy is pretty enjoyable, but when it compounds, it will start kicking. the soy garlic wasn't too salty or garlicky. The japchea (13.95$) was not good. It had too much sesame oil. I didn't like the potstickers (9.95$) either. The filling was funky and the texture of the potstickers were doughy. BUT... try the lychee soju (10$). O.M.G almost the best soju I've had! read more

Tried Bonchon a few months ago as they were in the area. Ambiance was decent and they were busy. Fried chicken was a little on the dry side and not very spicy. The seasoned fries were ok to good but you can't really screw up fries. I don't remember what else we ordered because it was not all that memorable but it was some type of spicy chicken stir fried. Oh Bonchon, what will we do with you... Let me start off by saying that the food here is good, it really is. Also, I will definitely go back to Bonchon; however, with that being said I will never dine in again. I know that previous reviews have mentioned bad service, but even that did not prepare me for what was in store. The service is bad, like abysmally bad. I'm pretty sure that no one outside of the kitchen has ever worked at a restaurant before. One of the servers was entering an order at the POS for over 10 minutes. There were multiple times during the meal that we stood up and waved our arms in order to try and get someone's attention. The service here is a hot, debacle mess. Thank goodness the food is good. For food, I got the soy garlic chicken tender and seasoned fries. Both are tasty and I can't wait to eat them again (as takeout). read more

I have been here twice both for takeout so I decided to give this restaurant 2 tries. It is a bit too expensive for what you get compared to other places when you want to order drumsticks and chicken wings. I was excited for the First time to try this because I have always been a fan of Korean fried chicken and their spicy taste. I ordered 10- 5 wings and 5 drumsticks with half soy - half spicy. I ordered this for takeout and the people working there were nice and fun. When I got home my fiancee and I were saddened because they had given us 7 drumsticks and 3 chicken wings in total. My fiancee does not like drumsticks at all but we shrugged it as it was probably confusion despite having only 4 customers there. So second time comes around and we ordered the same thing and again we got fewer chicken wings and more drumsticks. So now we are going to be more aware and check our food before we leave the place and let them know. Anywho, for the flavor and the food, it is pretty good. Right crisp and flavor for both the drumsticks and chicken wings. The soy taste is really good for someone who wants to chill back and can not handle spicy. The spicy flavor indeed was pretty spicy!! I finished 2 water bottles so fast but I wanted more. Will definitely come back for sure! read more

Bonchon Katy - This was my lunch at Bonchon Katy...Bibimbap - Chicken Wings Near Me - Katy, Texas

Came back for a second chance... Service is much better this time. We were well-attended to. Glasses of water was always filled. Food was served in fair amount of time, check and payment was completed without confusion. Loved and enjoyed our soy chicken combo and Japchae. Would come back another time to try other options in the menu. ------- There's a lot of Bonchon where I came from... So I was really excited to find out they've opened here! This is one of my son's favorite chicken places. Relatively a lot of people coming in for lunch on a weekday. I'm giving it three stars for now because we only ordered Japchae and the original soy garlic chicken combo. I would say, comparing to the other Bonchons I've had in other countries, I've had better. To be fair, the menu is different. Same food chain, little tweaks in their offerings. I will definitely still come back to try the other stuff in their menu. It was obvious they just opened, so the staff was a bit all over the place. They weren't sure who's waiting what table... The people on the table next to us didn't get entertained for about 20minutes. I know because I heard him complain about it. While our time and service were pretty much okay, we did have 2-3 staff coming back and forth and getting confused if our orders have been taken or not, someone gave us our bill and another person took it and they confused themselves. I'm sure they'll do better with practice! One important note though, and I hope this gets to the management, we were being served by a lady who seemed like she could benefit from wiping sweat and putting her hair away from her face before serving food.. Not trying to be rude... Just trying to say something that could be beneficial. read more

I was a bit skeptical to come, but it being such a hot place, then why not? This was a hit and a miss for us. First, service was fine and friendly. We had the salmon ball - not doing that again. Salty and more salty, we could barely eat it. Big mistake. We also opted for 20 wings, half the spicy sauce and half the soy garlic. Spicy wings - definitely spicy and delicious. Hubs could only have one because of the spice, but I was glad it lived up to its name. Soy garlic was super salty, and I was so disappointed. Just when I thought this place was tipping to the likable scale, the saltiness tipped it the other way. I really enjoyed the pickled daikon served with it, but that didn't help with the saltiness of the soy garlic. We had to order some rice to tone it down. We wanted to try a dessert, but our server gave us a Togo box and a check immediately. I guess no dessert for us then! read more
