The Bonchon in Fort Lee has sanitation issues and quality control issues. Sanitation issues...When I walked in the front door the woman who handles customers was just coming out of the bathroom and she had a toothbrush in her mouth and toothpaste all over her lips. She saw me and just kept brushing her teeth and then I saw her go back to the open bathroom and I saw her spit in the sink. She then just left the bathroom door open. Great Fried Chicken! It is very different from any other American fried chicken, so it is difficult to describe it if you haven't had it yet. The chicken is made to order, so you have to call 20 minutes ahead. They have two flavors, soy and spicy. Spicy is really not hot at all, so don't be afraid to try it out even if you can't handle spicy food. The chickin is so crispy outside, and you don't taste or feel the "oil". I don't know how they do it, but it works. I would say it is an exact opposite of KFC. Your fingers never get greasy from the chicken. They will get dirty with the sauce they put on, but not grease. They serve pickled raddish with the chicken. It is small raddish cubes, smaller than a dice, marinated in vinegar and little bit off sugar. It's not fermented so it is not kimchi. BTW, Koreans have at least few dozen varieties of Kimchi. I personally love it but some of my Amercian friends just hated the smell. I don't understand why. It doensn't smell like kimchi, which I understand why someone who didn't grow up with it or acquired the taste would hate it. I am a Korean, but even I don't want to smell like kimchi after a meal, so I always brush my teeth afterwards. At any rate, this raddish is great with the chicken in my opinion. Too bad they don't have any beer. Cold beer and chicken would be great. But liquor license in Fort Lee is very expensive. I heard it is way over $200k, so I understand why they don't sell beer. BonChon (pronounced boe'n choe'n) popped my KFC cherry (this one's for you Matteo). I was...I guess you can say anxious, like most teenagers, to see how it felt..I mean tasted. Non-greasy, super crispy, fried chicken, Korean style? You don't have to ask me twice. Soy Garlic or Hot? I usually order a large combo (half soy/half hot) which costs $20 (good for 2-3 people). I know, I know that's a lot for fried chicken wings BUT it's made to order, supposedly fried twice and tossed in a special sauce which is why it takes them roughly 20-30 minutes to make. A small is $10 (good for 1-2 people). Unfortunately, they don't offer any liquor to go along with the wings but they do have an assortment of side dishes. You also receive a nice amount of complimentary pickled daikon (radish), plus a can of soda if you order a large. If you haven't tried KFC, BonChon is a good place to get popped. Best place to get chicken. I've come back here again and again even though it's about a 20-30 minute drive away from me. I can't get enough of bon chon chicken especially from this place. I've had bon chon chicken from another place in nyc but it didn't compare. The skin just wasn't as crispy. When I've come here with my bf, we usually get the large combo, which includes 6 drumsticks and 10 chicken wings..and we devour it. You can choose soy or spicy for the sauce..i love the flavors of both. Just thinking about this place makes me crave for some bon chon! Decided to bring my mom here for a casual brunch. Came to find that it was mostly a take-out establishment, but they had a dining area with a few tables in front at which we ate. While waiting for our order (20 wings, fries, sweet potato, and radish), I found that majority of their business was from customers calling ahead and picking up. Our order was ready in about 20-25 minutes, but it was definitely worth the wait. Wings were crispy and a decent size. Fries had a nice seasoning as did the sweet potato. Although it's better than the BonChon in Leonia, it pales in comparison to Boom Boom in Fort Lee. I've been here twice. Once I got the small wings for lunch. The wings are SO tiny and overcooked. I can't believe I paid $12 for what you'd think would be a decent sized meal and then get 10 tiny, dry wings. Flavor was great, though. The next time, I got a lunch special (6 chicken strips and a side). I think this experience is the same as what someone else said about them not following the menu, changing what they want, and keeping the price the same. The menu on their website didn't list any limitations, just that you can choose a side. When I called to place my order, the woman said I can only choose between white rice and fries. I see that seven months ago, someone posted a pic of the lunch menu printed on blue paper and taped to the counter with these changes (didn't see that before placing my order, though; I looked at the menu on their site). When I went to the restaurant to pick up my order, I looked at the menu cards and they handwrote you can only choose those. So the website and (I guess) official printed menus don't say this and, if it were a business-wide change, you'd think they would've updated both of those in the last seven months. This leads me to believe only this location does this. I've had a couple orders from the Nutley location and, while I didn't check their lunch special, I can say that the quality of food was great. The chicken strips were so tender and large. The wings were crispy and saucy, not overcooked and jerky-like. This location is so close to my job, but unfortunately I will not be coming back. Nutley is closer to home, so I'll get my fix there. Maybe I'll try Boom Boom Chicken when I'm in Fort Lee since that's what others are recommending. read more

This chicken is crazy good. I have only been to the Fort Lee location. It is located right next to Fort Lee Pizzeria on Lemoine Ave. The owner is extremely friendly and helpful. He always comes over to chat with us. We like to eat at the location so we call ahead, around 20 minutes, and the food is hot and ready when we arrive. The chicken is delicious and not messy to eat. Finger lickin' not required. We get it with a side of the daikon radish cubes and fries. The fries are the "steak cut" type but they fry them perfectly! Hot and crunchy! read more

This is the fried chicken that Blue Ribbon sushi in Manhattan charges $25 for, and was rated, "Best Fried Chicken" in "Best-of." The chicken is cooked very meticulously. It is fried at a lower temperature than traditional southern fried chicken, but for a longer time. This results in the subcutaneous skin fat to melt off, leaving this wonderfully crispy chicken goodness. It's then lightly painted with either the soy ginger or spicy glaze. Other than the chicken, the cole slaw is western-style and the steak fries are just as crispy as the chicken. The owners were pleasant and struck a conversation with us. Located on a street that reminds me of any main street, USA, BonChon is conveniently located with plentiful parking nearby. The chicken can be a bit pricey, but well worth it. Deep fried, crispy, yet juicy. If you have an appetite, this will hit the spot. The side dish of salted/sweet radishes was a perfect compliment. Being from So Cal and trying many Korean chicken establishments, I was thoroughly impressed with the taste. All the while I was expecting a great tasting, greasy, crispy fried chicken, I came away with just crispy. Don't get me wrong it tasted very good but there wasn't a lot of meat on the bones. I take out from here about once a week. I order the chicken strips in soy garlic sauce and the wings in the hot sauce but ask for it "not too hot". Comes out just right. Well, for the most part we got there early around lunch time on a saturday afternoon. The restaurant didn't have much tables maybe because it's mostly people just wanted to just grab and go mostly for take outs. There is a parking lot around the corner that is free for shoppers (limited to 2 hours). Both the spicy (contains vitamins A & C) and soy garlic are very crispy, juicy and not very greasy. It is really different what I have expected. which is totally true. The soy garlic is exceptionally sweet (BUT would want it more like a garlicky taste rather than sweeter) and the spicy is very spicy . You can choose from a number of combination: wings drumsticks, soy garlic, spicy, or a mixture of both. An order of large goes for $20 and the medium is $12 (tax included). . Do remember to pre-order 20 minutes prior to pick-up or dinning because the chicken made to order and will take sometime to prepare. I love the pickled daikon radish. Proper protocol according to Bon Chon makes you pay onsite and before delivery of goods, however they don't give their customers receipts (process failure). Well, $54 later and on super bowl Sunday, they lost my order which consisted of 50 wings and two orders of kimchi. Such a shame. Incompetent management, poor point of service, and in much need of Marcus Lemonis. This business needs some translators to help bridge the language gap.
