His hot tip: this restaurant is BYOB, so hop into the liquor store (inside the Hmart complex) next door to grab some soju and beer before settling in for some grilled meats. There are some plated dishes on the menu but with grill covers in the middle of every table, it's clear this is a restaurant meant for Korean BBQ. The pork belly was incredible with decent grill-kissed char marks. The marinated beef was tasty but a little tougher than I prefer. I love all the free side dishes that came with our meat orders, especially the soybean stew and towering egg soufflé. Service is brisk and efficient..sort of. This is the sort of place where servers hover with their order pads soon after you settle down, expecting you to just know what you want. Since this is a full-service BBQ, our server came around frequently to grill, cut, or flip or meats. After all was eaten and done, it become mysteriously difficult to flag her down for our cheque. I don't usually leave reviews, but after my experience tonight (March 29th, 7:50 PM - 8:40 PM), I felt it was necessary. We have always enjoyed dining at Daeji Ssonday in Ridgefield, but the rude and unprofessional behavior of our waitress completely ruined our family dinner. We were seated at the table directly in front of the far back-right table (when looking from the counter). From the moment we sat down, the service was hostile: Aggressive Attitude: As soon as we sat, she demanded our order loudly. When we asked questions about the menu, she answered with visible irritation. While we were briefly discussing options with our children, she slammed her notepad onto our table with a loud "bang" and walked away, startling both us and our kids. Negligent Service: She continued to be rude throughout the meal, literally tossing side dishes onto the table. Furthermore, the exhaust hood at our table wasn't working properly, causing the smoke from the pork belly to fill the air and make it hard to breathe. She didn't check on us until much later. Ruined Meal Flow: While we were still eating our pork belly, she came over and--without asking--scraped all the meat onto a side plate to clear the grill for the spicy squid. We had to eat cold, greasy pork belly instead of enjoying it warm off the grill. She never even asked if we wanted fried rice afterward and ignored our table for the rest of the night. We always try to treat service staff with respect and gratitude, but this experience was unacceptable. Despite our polite demeanor, we were treated with zero professional courtesy. If the manager or owner is reading this, please look into the staff working that shift. This waitress needs serious retraining in basic customer service. First of all I LOCED the attention. Went here last afternoon with my boyfriend m, my baby and a friend. They were super sweet with my baby and the attention to us was excellent. They don't sell alcohol but you can bring yours from the liquor store next to them which is totally fine. The food was good as well, bathroom super clean and fresh smelled. I usually only eat AYCE bbq but this place is pretty good for a la carte. The meat quality is definitely better than any AYCE place and the banchan (side dishes) are a lot better too, but it's because the price is so much more expensive for the quality. For a party of 4, my friends and I ordered 2 orders of beef brisket, 1 black pork belly, and the seafood pancake. With those orders, we got 2 free steamed egg dishes and 2 free soups. The steamed egg is super good and the beef brisket is def the best I've had. BUT, for the quantity, it's like sooo little so I left feeling not hungry but nowhere near stuffed. Honestly, the amount of meat we got for 3 orders for 4 people is the same amount of meat I would eat usually for 1 person at an ayce place LOL. So set your expectations lmao. I had to eat a lot of banchan to fill myself up. The seafood pancake was meh and would not get again. If I could give zero stars, I would. I called on a Saturday to ask about the wait time. A male staff member said there were 7 tables ahead and that it would be about 40-50 minutes. He then offered -- I didn't ask -- to call me when a table was ready. Since I live 15 minutes away, I agreed. About 20 minutes later, I got the call and headed over. But when we arrived, the energy changed completely. The waitress seemed frustrated and told us the owner was angry that a table had been held for us. She said, "We don't take reservations on Saturdays," and made it sound like we had demanded special treatment -- which we absolutely did not. From that moment on, we were treated like we had done something wrong. The owner gave us a cold, disapproving look as he walked by. It was incredibly uncomfortable and honestly humiliating -- especially because I was there with my child. We finished the meal just to get through it, but it ruined our night. I later called the same staff member, and he admitted it was his fault and apologized. But that doesn't erase how we were made to feel: unwelcome, judged, and embarrassed for no reason. A surprising hidden gem of a Korean BBQ! Daeji Ssonday has a lot going against it. It is tucked unceremoniously away next to an Hmart in an area that looks industrial than commercial. The name is difficult for anyone who doesn't speak Korean and thus will also not get the pun. I was super skeptical walking into a busy and packed restaurant that had the ambience of a busy sweatshop. However, looks are deceiving. Is this the most glamorous k-bbq you can get around the area? Probably not. However, as soon as we ordered the pork galbi, the service was smooth and astonishingly seamless considering there seemed to be one bus boy serving the entire hall. The waitresses seemed like they had their minds on the other tables, but somehow managed to flip and switch out grills before the meat was burnt. Some of the banchans (side dishes) were underwhelming, but most were solid. The barbecue was done well and marinated just enough to keep the meat flavorful but not cloying with sweetness, like cheap marinated pork can often be. We were sold on the spring onion and lettuce that came with a sweet-and-spicy sauce that cut through the fatty meat when things got a bit greasy.. The price point was excellent for k-bbq around the area. My family is Korean, cheap and equipped with access to cheap and high quality meats, which makes us terrible customers at k-bbq places. We were well satisfied and agreed the price was worth all the food, service, and not having to clean up burnt meat off the grills and airing out all the smoke from the house. Maybe this place isn't suitable for first dates and girls night out. The best pork bbq hands down I've been to outside of my mom's kitchen! So good that I went two nights in a row. . Yep, The first night was with my friends for my sister's birthday, and because I felt like I didn't have my full, I went again with my parents the next night. It had been a while since I had such great Korean BBQ! My family and I got the dwaeji galbi (pork rib galbi) and it was super soft and tasty. The restaurant gives an assortment of side dishes like doenjang jjigae (fermented soybean soup) and steamed eggs. It was extremely refreshing to sip on the soup while eating the meat. My close friend Mikaela invited me to stay with her family for the weekend after finals, before flying back home for winter break, and the first meal they treated me to was a samgyeopsal dinner here. Who knew that New Jersey would have such a sizable Korean American population, with businesses like this one to give me access to authentic Korean cooking? I do now. We were seated at table with a center grill and had one of the server ladies start the cooking for us. I'm so used to all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ which you cook yourself, and Mikaela had been confused as to what I meant by that because here we don't need to cook our meat ourselves. I've never been to a non-self-cooking Korean barbecue restaurant, so this was a new experience, making samgyeopsal wraps with lettuce, onion, garlic, etc. I am in love. This is just another reminder that I could never be a vegetarian. Banchan is always good, I always love japchae. We also got gyeran-jjigae and doenjang-jjigae which is always yummy. Hands down my favorite place for samkyubsal in NJ. Well to be fair, I haven't tried many places in NJ but also I live in Flushing so my standards for samkyubsal are pretty high. This place is good for groups and has rooms available for big parties. Overall, they cook the meat pretty fast so you are not waiting around for food. My only problem is that the service isn't as attentive and the waitresses have no notion of personal space, especially when cooking the meat in the grill. We order lunch from here often, and the food never disappoints. They offer a great lunch special deal. The bbq is amazing; on the pricier side, but worth it. The pork belly and marinated beef here is the best. The location is convenient and three is ample parking in the lot. There's a bus stop right out front. It's also right next to the Hmart and a Paris Baguette. My only grow here is the ventilation, they could improve that a bit. During dinner, it gets to the point where the entire restaurant is filled with smoke(more so, I think, than any other bbq restaurant). And yet the bathrooms are freezing (during the winter/colder months). I have started putting all my outerwear and layers into a plastic bag to avoid the smell from seeping in. Bad service and force you to pay higher tips. I and my husband used to be big fans of the restaurant. The food there tastes good in our experience, and it is next to the hmart, very convenient lacation. But yesterday's experience totally made us disappointing of it. When we came in, the restaurant was almost full, and we waited for a while. After 10 mins, we were lead to our table. And two waitress rushed us to made our decision to order, we even didn't have time to see the menu. They were very rushed and just stand beside your table all the time, and tell you what to order. When we ordered one order of the Galbi (over 40 dollars), she told us at least two order of the BBQ, or they won't serve it. The second thing is they took over the pot and plate even we didn't finish! Maybe the customer is too many and there's not enough pot to use, so they took the pot before we finish the dish without asking. The third thing is about the tips. The bill of I and my husband was almost 90 dollars, and we paid 15% tips, When we are leaving, the waitress came to check the bill, then she told us at least 18% and force us to change the amount. We only have two ppl and we ordered two order of the BBQ and one order of other dishes, that is a lot. And their service is not that good, why you force me to pay 18% of the tips? I will never go to this place again. The first time, I ordered Bibimbap to go and they only put a tiny bit of lettuce, and bean sprouts. No rice, side dishes(banchan), no gochujang. I called them to explain and they said that next time, they will give that amount credit or get the same meal. Second, I went 12/17/22 and I ordered 2 marinated pork $25.95x2=$51.90, I ordered small size cold noodle for $8.95 and Blood soup for $15.95 total $76.80. I talked to the server, she remembers, me and she told me that she will credit out my blood soup. The check, came to $77 dollar and change with tax. I left a cash tip for $10.00, then server told me that in BBQ I must pay her a higher Tip 18% up, so I gave to her $15.00 cash tip. I found this place through Instagram and it did not disappoint! Everything was so good, especially the pork belly. Highly recommend! It was chilly and raining that day so it was perfect for budae jjigae which i was craving! It's pretty much an army soup with a lot ingredients thrown in (kimchi, spam, hotdogs, etc). Although dining is indoors, the restaurant practiced social distancing where tables are about 6 feet apart. We didn't know this till after, but you can also bring your own alcohol if you'd like.
