CHICKEN WINGS. the korean style chicken wings are definitely what make this place worth the hype. perfectly crispy with a great soy sauce flavor and some heat for good measure (cause after all what are chicken wings with no spice). i'm theorizing that they get the extra crispy texture by double frying the wings, and fortunately they aren't smothered in grease. they're small but surprisingly filling but it's definitely something that you will want to complement with another dish. they have a bunch of other classic korean food here too but to be honest i'm not that well versed with what's good and bad. i just know that what i had here i liked. i know they were also working on getting their liquor license too so hopefully that's all set now and you can enjoy yourself a good soju buzz! read more

We ordered delivery from here the other night, since the boy loves their wings. I wasn't craving wings but went out on a limb and tried some of the Korean cuisine, getting the Bibimbap. I had never had it before so I can't compare it to much, but it was A LOT OF FOOD, I was able to eat it the next day as well. I do wish it would have come with more rice, since there was so much everything else, and being a big fan of rice it didn't really even out for me. Also, some of the veggies didn't seem that fresh (which disappointed me, seeing the cost!) The chili paste it came with was delicious though, and I'd totally buy a whole bottle of it. We also got the bacon wrapped scallop/quail egg appetizer, but there seemed to be different things on each one, and before we realized that, the one that had scallops had already been eaten. I thought there would be more scallop and less quail egg. A decent meal, and fair portions, but I just can't wrap my head around the cost, we spent almost $50 for the smallest serving of drumsticks, a very small appetizer and an entree. not a favorite for me, but I know we will be back for the wings!! I love love LOVE Korean food. This place is the best for wings and apps. However, if you're looking for extremely traditional Korean food, head down a few stores to Buk Kyung II. Pajeon Seafood Pancake is delicious, a bit bland but it is served with a huge bowl of soysauce. bright side, stuffed with so much seafood! Tteokbokki rice cake is heavenly! This one includes the nori wrapped glass noodles and japchae in the sauce as well. i wish it had more fishcakes and ricecakes in the dish, though. sauce was delicious! House Fried Rice - good ol asian fried rice with chunks of onions, peppers, shrimp, and chicken. Bonchon Chicken! always the hype. the main reason why this review goes from 3 to 4 stars. Delicious, crispy, finger lickable, yummy, and all the above. I suggest soy garlic glazed. Lychee sake and warm sake are also an interesting add to the meal to off set all the korean soul food. I've been to several Bonchon locations: one in NYC, one in Harvard, and now this one. This one is by far the best one because it's menu is huge! We got the usual Large (30 Wings) Soy Garlic flavored. They came out quickly, very crispy, and delicious. Love this place, and had leftovers too. We also ordered the Salmon salad that came with boiled salmon on top, caviar, eel sauce, cucumber, and kani. This place is such a staple for me honestly. I always come here when people are visiting from out of town or if I want something that I know I will enjoy. This was my introduction to Korean fried chicken, let alone double fried chicken! My go to order here is the soy garlic chicken and I don't even order sides because my sole focus is the chicken. In the Allston location, we get two free sides: pickled daikon and coleslaw. I normally don't like cole slaw, but Bonchon's is the only one I love. If I'm feeling extra hungry, I'll order the salmon avocado salad with salmon roe on top. Never had anything like it and it's an absolute must If I feel like drinking, I order either the lychee or the yogurt soju. Unfortunately over the years, I feel the portions for the alcohol has gotten less and less. Nonetheless still delicious! Pre COVID Bon Chon was incredible and the go to place for the best bang for the buck. But after my visit tonight, I cannot recommend Bon Chon to my friends anymore when there are much better Korean Fried Chicken Restaurants in the area. What used to be fresh big pieces of boneless wings have turned into chicken nuggets and the value isn't there anymore. Very salty and just the wings are not the quality they used to be. On top of the coleslaw being very bland and the fries have changed in size as well. I've been told it's a new owner and so far it seems to have gone down hill. Bonchon definitely knows how to make fried chicken. We got the soy garlic medium chicken strips, a whopping 20 pieces of boneless chicken. Every piece was crispy and crunchy, way more than your usual fried chicken (they double fry their chicken here). I am always surprised when I have my first bite. I also really liked the soy garlic sauce as well. It really is some of the best fried chicken I've ever had. Besides the chicken though, their side dishes are really hit or miss. I had the gyoza here and also the beef bulgogi and both left for something to be desired. I also have a problem with the menu, as everything besides the chicken seems to be overpriced. The bulgogi for example was around $18! It's much more economical to just get the chicken here. Overall, Bonchon obviously knows how to make fried chicken and does it for a good price. My family and I have been visiting this place for years, and it's finally gotten to the point where we can't go anymore because of the service. They charge for extra sides, which other Korean/Korean fried chicken places don't do. The seating protocol is totally messed up and they are unapologetic even after making you wait longer than 30 minutes and seating groups just one person bigger before you. The servers always seem bothered and it's like you're inconveniencing them. The chicken was great as usual. However, today the house special chicken fried rice was very it was plain and unseasoned. I was extremely disappointed because I had ordered a takeaway for the same fried rice 2 weeks before, and it was absolutely delicious. The only logical explanation for this is that the restaurant was extremely busy at lunch time so their quality of food paid the price. Just hope they fix this so that they can try to match up to the other Bonchon branches in Salem and Lowell, which are excellent.. Jansel as well as one other server had all of the tables in the restaurant and were doing everything including bussing the tables themselves. Came here with a group of friends on Sunday night at 7. Surprisingly it wasn't as crowded than I expected though I attribute that to it being Easter Sunday. One thing to note us that they won't seat your group unless your ENTIRE party is there so make sure people aren't late! Service was prompt. We got the large combo (50/50) as well as tteokbokki, crispy salmon maki, vegetable bibimbap and miso soup (not on the menu apparently but available upon request). The chicken was very crispy and delicious. I'm a fan of the garlic soy but if you like spicy then the spicy version will be a favorite of yours. One thing I noticed was that the drumsticks weren't uniform as they were years ago. We had a few dinky ones mixed in with the normal sized ones. The maki was good but nothing mind blowing. The tteokbokki (noodles doused in a spicy sauce with melted cheese) is good (if that description sounded delicious to you ) but is pretty spicy so be aware of that. read more

Bonchon is one of the popular korean fried chicken places around Boston. There is always a line so I got takeout. I ordered a small wings - half spicy and half soy garlic. The spicy flavour definitely has a kick to it so don't get it if you can't handle spicy foods. The soy garlic was well seasoned and the batter was very crunchy. Only major complaint is that the chicken meat is pretty dry compared to other Korean fried chicken places like BBQ chicken in Allston or Crave in Chinatown. I have tried Bonchon several times now but have found myself going to the other two places more because they have juicer wings with better seasoning and generally more meat. What used to be my favorite Korean fried chicken spot is now sadly a joint that is not worth visiting, i.e. a has-been. The quality of the food has sharply gone downhill over the years. The chicken is consistently oversauced to the point where it's disgusting & the sushi is on par with supermarket sushi, that is the rolls are packed with rice and falls apart, yuck. I was in denial months ago when I first noticed the deteriorated quality (have not come here in a few years), I thought it must have been a fluke. Been here a couple times. It's always a lively environment with a line out the door. Call ahead for larger groups. Great for cheap, decent Korean/Asian food and bigger groups to share family style. It's rich in flavor, a solid 4/5 and must-have when coming here. I've ordered their Tteokbokki every time (per my friends' requests) and i honestly don't like it. 2/5. The sauce is very spicy and they add way too much cheese. They also have egg, glass noodles, fish cake etc in the whole bowl. Good for sharing. I'm a huge fan of their fried rice and get it every time. They have a variety of options, but the Kimchi and Bacon combo has never failed. It gets very oily when you microwave it the next day, but 4/5 for taste! I was also pretty impressed with the Bulgogi Jjigae. I loved the glass noodles in it and the rich broth. 4/5. For groups of 4-5 people, we usually do family style and order fried chicken + 3 more items. We always have A LOT left over. Again, great place to satisfy cravings and meet with friends. About two month ago, i got okonomiyaki & chickens togo.. okonomiyaki was so burnt it was not edible. They must have seen how burnt it is when they packed it cuz as soon as i opened it i saw how burnt it was.. i cant believe they sold food like that.. and I went back next day to get money refunded and gave back the food that wasn't eaten..they said i will be contacted and will get money refunded... i thought i was odd that they are not giving me refund right there but i believed them and walked away.. i called them multiple times sent pic of food and all that.. after two month.. i gave up. Manager is never there! Put someone in charge if you are not going to be there. I used to get cravings for Bonchon's soy garlic wings. They were CRISPY, salty, sweet and garlicky, just everything I look for in wings. Unfortunately, that's not the case anymore. The last few visits here were disappointing to say the least. Last time we ordered takoyaki, soy garlic wings, french fries, and rice. Takoyaki was good, it came out piping hot. Soy garlic wings were meh. They weren't crispy. Not super hot either. It wasn't as garlicky as I remembered and way too salty. I had to drink a lot of water. The wings come with pickled radish and coleslaw. I used to LOVE the coleslaw and this time it was watery and lacked flavor. The portions for the sides were also smaller than before. UGH why can't they just keep things the way they used to be?! My partner's plate was dirty and asked for a new plate-- it never came. He also ordered a can of Sapporo and they gave it to him with a warm glass, so the beer turned warm. Who wants to drink warm beer... Service was friendly and on the slower side. Delicious chicken, big portions, good prices and very busy. Korean style fried chicken is awesome. They have two different sauces, soy garlic and spicy. Both are very tasty and the spicy sauce really is spicy- gets you in the back of your throat. They also give you the choice of strips, wings or drums. I got the Katsu Don and it was pretty good. The chicken was a bit weird, it was kind of difficult to bite a piece off. Had to stick the whole piece in my mouth as to not embarrass myself. The egg and onion on top with rice and sauce below were delectable. Also tried some of the Teokbokki (sp?) and the beef bulgogi. The Teokbokki was pretty spicy and came on a huge plate, definitely leftovers. Beef bulgogi was sweet and very easy to chew through. Friends and I got there around 2pm for a late lunch and the place was crowded. Since we had a pretty big party, there happened to be a corner booth open that seated us all. "Have you had Bonchon yet?!" the question I always get when I tell people I live in Allston. After half a year of living here, I finally tried this place out! I did take out with a couple friends. Super nice, super efficient staff. The one thing I always heard others say about Bonchon is that the chicken is the only thing that's amazing. Everything else is ok. We got a medium combo of chicken and tteokbokki. Chicken was good, not amazing (but I'm also not sure if I'm a huge fan of fried chicken to begin with, so this review might not be completely fair lol!) Tteokbokki was meh. I'm actually not sure that it can even be called tteokbokki because it was about 80% noodles. It also had a couple of dumplings, which I never had in tteokbokki, but I liked. Overall, I don't think I'd ever go back on my own, but if I do, the chicken would be the only thing I would get. read more

This is my go-to place to satisfy my fried chicken cravings. I went tonight with the fam and got a large order of wings, half soy garlic and half spicy, which sufficiently fed 6 people. Crispy and flavorful as always. The soy garlic is always a great option but if you appreciate and can handle spicy, go for that option. It's unique in that it's a slow burn that pairs so well with a Sapporo draft. We also got a bibimbap with bulgogi which was decent and tried their new soft tofu stew with seafood. The tofu was pretty good but I've heard that there are better places for it. BonChon is a chicken place so don't have expectations that are too high for other menu items. read more

This place gets extremely busy on the weekends so if you're coming during prime time, be prepared to wait! If you're looking to come at a less busier time, I suggest before 5pm. You'd think this place only serves chicken but there are some vegetarian options for non-meat eaters! I tried the kimchi pancake and a tofu bibimbap. The kimchi pancake was ok. It was not super greasy and tasted like a classic Korean pancake. The fried pancake preserved the salty pickled flavor of the kimchi which was very nice. I really liked my bibimbap. The rice really makes a difference; I love it when it gets crispy at the bottom of the stone pot. Some places make it too crispy that it's very hard to eat and chew. This place makes it just right. I was afraid that the tofu would be a little bland because of the way it looked but it held a lot of flavor to it. It was a lot better with the red bibimbap gochugang sauce. read more
