I didn't expect to find a cake shop in a Chinese food court, but Bon Cake is worth the visit! We purchased a cake for a recent celebration and had a great first experience :) The service was friendly & helpful in answering our questions about the best size cake to order and drink recommendations as well. Their osmanthus latte and iced latte tasted great - not overly sweet or bitter. We loved our ovaltine crunch cake! This shop is great for those who prefer a less sweet yet fluffy cake because they use whipped cream instead of traditional icing. Whether you like classic flavours like chocolate or Black Forest, or you prefer Asian-inspired flavours like ovaltine, matcha, or HK milk tea, there's a flavour for mostly everyone!

I had always seen Bon Cake whenever eating in the foodcourt at FMP, and decided to finally give it a try. We tried the Yuzu Mango Cheesecake, which was not too heavy like North American cheesecake or light like Japanese style cheesecake. The burst of citrusy flavour added a nice touch to the cake as well. I'd be happy to try some more desserts here!

mr. Tran got me a slice of the mango chiffon cake for Mother's Day. Looks too cute to eat! But had to eat it sometime later that day as my toddler was saying "cake" all day. The slice of cake was a pretty decent size, it wasn't small and it was enough for two people to share. The cake was fluffy and super light, and mango was ripe and super sweet, but the cake itself wasn't overly sweet. Just the right amount of sweetness. The cream was light and fluffy, but it did leave a eggy aftertaste in the mouth. A little pricey for a slice of cake, but since it was Mother's Day, a little treat and appreciation from mr. Tran was nice.

I was dying to try this cake place located in FMP. The cake slices and whole cakes look so pretty so I was always curious how it tasted . We ordered four indv cake slices , strawberry pistachio;Ovaltine; mango and coconut osmanthus. Look wise it was quite eye catching . The disappointment for us was the cakes somehow shrunk when we got home :o . It was $9.5 for most of the slices we got . Initially it did seem semi worth it given how large the slice was but once we got home ( few hrs later non sunny day ) , I guess condensation but they all deflated/ flatten :( and were smaller especially the strawberry pistachio. My relatives said the same for the other slices. Taste wise it was just regular chiffon cake and not worth the higher price tag tbh . It's also on the lighter sugar side so I can see this being suitable for the Asian palette

This bakery makes little cakes and treats with Asian inspired flavours. They sell cakes by the slice, mini cakes, full cakes, cake rolls and cheesecakes. In addition, they also have a selection of drinks ranging from coffees to flavoured sparkling sodas. We ordered: 1. Mini Strawberry Chiffon Cake A two layer mini cake with cream and fresh strawberries. We found this the perfect size to share, and loved the lightness of the cake. The cream wasn't too sweet and the strawberries were the perfect combo. 2. Sea Salt & Cheese Slice This slice was the perfect mix of sweet and savoury. We also enjoyed the lightness of the cake and how it wasn't too sweet or heavy. For drinks we tried two flavours of the sparkling sodas: - yuzu sparkling - Lychee sparkling Both of these flavours were refreshing, we appreciated the little bit of yuzu and lychee in the drinks. This spot is a great dessert stop for some cute light cakes and drinks. We would definitely come back to try some other cake slice flavours. @alot.eats

Bon Cake Ratings: 3.9/5 Food: 4/5 - Took an afternoon lunch break with my boyfriend today and took a stroll at First Markham Place. We found this Asian owned bakery here and decided to try a slice. We got the pistachio & strawberry, and it was good but not great. Definitely not the best slice I've tried in Toronto. Please see the description of the cake below for more details. - Pistachio & Strawberry Cake [GET]: I like how light this cake was, and the pistachio cream and strawberry mousse was not too sweet. There's a slight pistachio flavor, but I wished it was stronger to be honest. The strawberry mousse was subtle. The texture is definitely heavier than a mousse, so more like a paste I'd say. The chiffon cake was light and fluffy, just like what most sponge cake tastes like, eggy and spongy-like. It was tasty, but nothing too mind-blowing, missing the WOW factor for sure. I got to say though, the ingredients they use are fresh! Ambiance: 4/5 - Located in First Markham Place (FMP) food court. It is just a small shop with a cake display container showcasing some of their cakes and Swiss rolls. It is in the food court, so plenty of tables and chairs for you to sit. Great spot for catching up with friends or if you are with a large group of people, otherwise it is more of a grab and go place. Price: 3.75/5 - I found the price point for the cakes here to be quite steep. Each cake slices range from $8.50 to $9 before tax. Although the cake slices are bigger than most, I think it is still pretty pricey. Good to try it if this is your first time, if not I think Duo is much better for a similar price point. Service: 4/5 - The lady at the counter was friendly and patient, answered all my questions before I decide which flavors to get. She was polite and end up recommending the pistachio & strawberry cake to me. The cake is neatly packaged in a very cute box. They do take credit cards. Overall, pleasant experience. BLUF: Cute cake shop that will catch your eye when you are at FMP, and make sure to check out Bon Cake. They serve fresh cake slices in some of the most unique and interesting flavors. Great services, nice people, and most importantly they use fresh ingredients, and you can tell when you try it. I would recommend getting any of their chiffon cakes, probably the Ovaltine flavored one, because I might next time. This is good, but not a MUST try place in Toronto.

Tried a couple of their cake slices. Pistachio strawberry - nice strawberry flavor, could've used a bit more pistachio flavor come through. But perfectly not to sweet. Mango yuzu - really enjoyed this flavor profile. Cake was done nicely as well and again not too sweet. Can tell their sweetness level is to our liking. A bit pricier at $8-9 per slice but a nice treat. Will definitely be back to their their other flavors. They have so many options.

Bon Cake is a new women owned and Asian owned bakery that opened up in the First Markham Place food court. The owner has experience at Duo Patisserie, which (for me) sets high expectations for quality products. They are having their grand opening this weekend (June 18/19, 2022), where they are offering 15% off all items except for whole cakes. They make delicious looking cheesecakes including Basque cheesecake, Yuzu mango cheesecake, Matcha strawberry cheesecake, and chocolate raspberry cheesecake. They also offer roll cakes such as Black sesame pecan roll cake and Coffee roll cake at the time of my visit. We purchased the yuzu mango cheesecake and black sesame pecan roll cake to bring to a family gathering. We tried the matcha strawberry cheesecake. I appreciated the noticeable matcha and strawberry flavours. It was lighter in texture than a New York cheesecake or basque cheesecake, with the texture similar to cheesecakes that have gelatin in them. I enjoyed the graham crust and the fact that the cake wasn't very sweet. I did find the price point of $9.50 per cheesecake slice somewhat steep. That being said, the yuzu mango cheesecake and black sesame roll were delicious, not too sweet, pronounced in flavours, and I'd 100% return to purchase these items. Whole cake orders are available with one day advanced notice. They also sell coffee and various specialty drinks. Will certainly come back to try more of their menu offerings.

RATING: 3.5/5 the Osmanthus Coconut chiffon cake i had was light and floral, but not too sweeeet! they had a lot of tasty sounding slices but this one caught my eye. i'm not usually a big fan of sponge cake but the airy whipped cream made it taste like a cloud. the price is quite high (almost $10 per slice after tax) but it's enough to share between 2 ppl especially after having a meal at first markham place food court !

Review is based on the pistachio strawberry cake. I happened to be passing through FMP and this cute new-ish cake store caught my eye. The slices are quite big and all the components are great quality. The strawberry pistachio cake had a light fluffy sponge, lightly sweetened strawberry gel and a smooth and creamy pistachio mousse that actually delivers a great amount of pistachio flavour. A single slice isn't cheap at $8.5 but it's a good quality treat that has thoughtful and pretty packaging.

Located in the food court of First Markham Place. They specialize in making Hong Kong flavoured desserts. The cake was okay and the shaved ice was also okay. Prices are a bit expensive at around $10 per slice of cake.

Recently, I got to try two of their 6 inch cakes. The earl grey tea chestnut cake with fresh strawberries and the black sesame mochi lava cake with fresh mangoes. Both cakes are AMAZING! I could taste the earl grey flavor and the chestnut flavor separately along with the fresh strawberries, it is a wonderful combination. The black sesame one was sooooo good also. It has black sesame mousse on the outside and the top is like a black sesame lava topped with pistachios and some kind of nutty crumble crunch. The inside has mochis layered within along with black sesame cake, more of that nutty crumble crunch and at the bottom is fresh mangoes. I honestly don't know which one I like better but I am craving either cakes again (I had both within the last 3 weeks haha). The service there is still excellent. Everyone working there is so kind & helpful. The ambiance is nice... it is spacious, bright and clean. I really love going in there and chatting with everyone while receiving top notch service.

The curry bun could use more filling, but the pastry itself was flaky and flavorful. The cheese chicken bun was huge and super satisfying. We got it fresh so the outside was crisp and the cheese stayed gooey. We also grabbed their famous egg tarts. They kept selling out and the kitchen was scrambling to keep up, so we pre-ordered and came back thirty minutes later to pickup. Totally worth it. The crust is flaky and buttery and the filling is silky and creamy. In our opinion, these are the best egg tarts in the city.
