This was highly recommended by a friend so paid a visit few days ago. We were at Southbank and our first choose was Ping Pong but it had a 2 1/2 hr wait on a Thursday evening! Bombay Chao is Very close to Ravenscourt Park underground station (District Line) and upon arrival I noticed the place bit smaller than I expected. Bombay Chao is Moderately priced with Good selection of drinks and cocktails and pretty good service however I was not impressed by the food. I ordered a Hot n' Sour Chicken soup which was decent, the starters let me down big time. The Chilli Chicken was bland and didn't have any Chillies (not even any green pepper), Chicken Lollipops were soggy on the inside. The Okra Potato Chilli starter was a winner but it was the only exception. By then we weren't very hungry and we ordered Sichuan Fish and a Pak Choi dish for mains and I really enjoyed the Pak Choi. Over all average experience and in hindsight was a poor decision to go all the way to go to Hammersmith to try this place out. I suggest you do give this a try if you are in the area but would don't travel for just food. read more

Bombay Chow is one of the few restaurants in London specialising in Indochinese food, located near Ravenscourt Station. Their restaurant itself was very inviting from the moment we stepped in with it's spotlights lighting the darken restaurant and looked warm reflecting off the bright vivid artwork on the wall. Decor was kept simple with its dark grey walls against red painted pillars with tables lined up in rows against a long comfortable leather bench. Service is definitley worthy of a mention as staff were outstandingly helpful and friendly. They all had a lovely warm personality, very patience and all with a light humour. Unfortunately their food did not live up to those quality, lacking skill and flavours of the indochinese cuisine. Complimentary prawn crackers No complaints here. It was nice of them to serve the more fragrant and peppery kind. A generous portion too Man chow soup (veg) This soup did not taste as interesting as it looked. It was very one noted and very salty. I could only taste the peppers in there. There wasn't any flavours of the ingredients as promise in the description such as the garlic or ginger. It was so over-seasoned that the more I drank it the more thirsty I became. Such a shame for a soup that had the potential to be better as I did enjoy the texture of the thick soup against the crunchy fried noodles. Chicken Lollipops These were incredibly succulent and tender and with the chef's spice mix marinade, it was quite enticing, giving off sweet mild peppery aromatic flavours. However once again they went slightly overboard with the salt leaving you extremely thirsty after eating them. Hong Kong paneer Probably the best dish of the evening and with everything seasoned perfectly too. Could have done with more wok energy but the flavours and textures won me over. The paneer had this lovely firm bounciness to it with the crunchy sweet onions complementing it really well. All was lovely stir fry in a hot spicy bean spicy giving it depth and complexity. Kung pao potato Another firm favourite of mine this evening. The potatoes were incredibly fluffy in a really moreish sweet and savoury sticky sauce, perfectly seasoned too with its complex flavours. The heat was very quite mild for me but that made it easier to eat especially when it came scorching hot. Vegetable Manchurian I really wanted to like this dish. It was almost everything I like with the soy sauce cornstarch slurry surrounding the lovely crispy yet fluffy vegetable fritters giving that subtle sweetness to the dish. A generous portion too. But sadly it was way too salty for anyone to eat it on its own. It was as if someone had dolloped a whole tablespoon of salt into this dish Triple Szechuan This dish was pretty disastrous if I was to be honest. It was all very bland, no wok skill and the main flavour was coming from just salt again. Although not in the description, the dish came with chicken tossed in a really weird weak and runny pre made sweet and sour sauce. At least it was juicy and tender though which helped seeing how dry the dish was with the poorly fried rice and crispy noodles. Being quite a flavourless dish it made it very hard to consume with the lack of moisture. The spice was stronger here but more from chilli powder rather than actual chilli as I couldn't taste the fragrance of fresh spice. The fried egg and the Chinese leaf lining the plate was the only thing I enjoyed in this dish Sizzling noodles It's weird to have a dish that was so bland when everything was over seasoned and salty. The noodles weren't even fried properly, still firm and lacking that smokiness you get from cooking in a hot wok. I saw onions in the dish but didn't taste it whatsoever. Bombay Chow was quite a disappointment to be honest. All the sauces seem pre-made or bought from an external supplier with no true authentic flavours from either the Indian side or the Orient side. Very westernised. Dishes lacked wok energy as if they just tossed everything in a luke warm wok and then served. The most disturbing issue was that most dishes were way too salty for consumption. It's a shame for such a restaurant that serves such an unique cuisine and has the potential to flourish. At the moment the only things that it can be praised for is it's large portion sizes and excellent customer service. But sadly it's not a good enough reason to return if the food quality does not follow. read more

Little removed from the heart of london, but worth checking out! Delicious food (be sure to say no MSG!). The only part that sucked was the service. Both our servers were slow and MIA all the time.. so the owner was running around as well. But he was great! We tried the spring rolls, which were clearly homemade with big pieces of vegetables. Veg Manchurian that also had big fritters of vegetables unlike the traditional small minced balls. Also, the honey chili chicken which is fried and sweet and spicy! We also got a bottle of wine and hated it, but the manager was nice enough to let us switch it out for another! Only complaint is the service and the entrees should come with rice. But the food makes it all worth it! read more

My love for indo-Chinese makes me come here often. The food here is good. However, the service has deteriorated. I come here during the weekends with prior booking and I feel the staff always struggles with managing the crowd. I would prefer coming to this place next time on a weekday maybe when it is calm and enjoy the food more. Must try the Chicken lollipop, chilli chicken and triple schezuan. read more

Well hello there beautiful! Indian chinese done right, in west London. Indian-Chinese cuisine is not a mix of Indian and Chinese cuisine. Don't be fooled. Its the thefood you get in India which is called 'Chinese'. There a couple of restaurants which claim to do this in London, but only this one which seems to nail it right. This place does not overdo the spice - just because its 'indian'. The dishes like Hakka Chicken, Chicken Lollipop and Triple Szechuan make mouths water. And this place does not disappoint. Its quite a trek for me from the east, but we've already been here twice. And many more times to come! read more

Have been here before 2 times, but truly the service has now degraded beyond imagination. We booked a table of 20 people, arrived in time at 19:00. As soon as we arrived, we were told to order and finish the food by 21:00. The staff was inefficient in explaining the portions of the dishes when asked; service was slow. As such 2 hours for 20 people didn't make sense. They really didn't care even to refill water or ask us how was everything and if we needed anything. At 21:00, we were told to finish off quickly. One of the staff even argued with many of us. To add on, we also found hair in our dessert!!!! Overall, the food was ok, but the staff was rude. Good food with bad service really spoils the whole experience. Horrible, horrible, horrible service, the restaurant needs to learn some manners!!!!!!! read more

Very good food. Subtle and nice ambience. Service is good, however it takes a bit long for the waiter to always attend to us. The only thing that spoils it for me is the restaurant's smell.. fills up the entire place.. not sure what diffuseur or what they use but it kills the appetite. For a lover of Indo-Chinese food (the lesser known dimension of Indian cuisine), this was a surprise revelation in UK. We made reservations on a Friday and could only get a table next to the door as they were booked. For starters we ordered some favorites (read my favorites) - chicken lollypop, manchow soup. The chicken was yumm. Soup - meh. The mains were bad. They need to work on getting the sauces right. Upsetting considering Indo-Chinese cuisine has nostalgic stronghold. But it was good to see an extensive menu, although I wonder why they have sizzlers - a clear misfit. Service - painfully slow. The lady serving was very apologetic. Food delays - understandable. Drink delays - nah!! I wanted to try my Bacardi with Thums Up (an Indian cola beverage). But I was gutted that it was unavailable (why raise expectations by putting it on the menu?!). Very packed and busy. Small space but quite decent. Would prefer getting a take away. read more

Great place! Definitely recommend coming here if you want to be reminded of childhood flavors of Bombay. Here is what we had: The chicken lollipop taste just like home. Plump lollipop, fried to perfection, crispy on the outside and bursting with juices on the inside. The chicken is so moist! Calamari was light, airy and fresh - we got it extra hot. The Chopsuey - Great texture! Crunchy fried noddles and with a rich, sweet, sour sauce loaded with vegetables. Chicken manchurian was probably my favorite. Delicious dark brown sauce, with plenty of ginger, garlic and coriander. The chicken is cooked to perfection again - moist and juicy! Prawn szechuan - generous portion of prawns, delicious red sauce, lots of heat! Hakka noodles were very good. Loaded with vegetables, and taste fresh. Service was excellent. No long wait before getting a table. Food came out quickly. Place is sparkling clean. We will definitely return soon. read more

Amazing indo chinese near the Apollo. Delicious soup to start, spicy hakka chicken, crispy cauliflower for apps, sizzling rice (must have!) and great szcheuan mains. Highly recommended! Will be back! read more
