Came here wanting a nice Indian meal and noticed this restaurants review status was at 4 stars and, they took tastecard at Christmas time. Result right..??? We had a relatively early booking so fairly empty when we arrived but did quickly start to fill up. Food wise I ordered KAKRA PURI for starters described as 'Lightly spiced crab meat infused with shallots and cilantro.Served on a snap fried puffed bread'. What arrived was spiced crab meat which, was a little wet but nice however, there was no 'puffed bread'. I received a doughy pancake which was slightly under cooked in the middle. No snap puff which was disappointing as I wanted something light for starters not a thick pancake. I had ordered a paratha with my main meal again this was disappointing. This just seemed to be a larger version of my first 'pancake'. There were no flaky layers but a heavy doughy paratha which you could see was undercooked in the middle. Staff were pleasant enough but left feeling this was not one of the best, reasonably priced' Indians I've been to and not sure that I would opt to go back.

We came after reading many reviews and walking twice through the street with more than 50 restaurants serving all most same type of Indian typical food. #1. There are few other restaurants with same name making it confusing as to which is the real balti restaurant. After few attempts we found this one which is reviewed as top 5 !! ( not reliable reviews) didn't find it good enough. #2. Any curry you order will be similar no different other than name being it Himalayan chicken or chicken tikka Masala or any other in red curry typical not authentic. 3#. Not fresh food. Samosa(lamb) was soggy, chicken curry not good, naan was in rubbery and unchewable. Rice was okay. But food overall Yuk not eating here again. 4#. Poor service - food took a long time to come to the table. Water without ice, no chutney with samosa. No onions salad etc. Servers were kind and poor but not trained well. We just ate at Dishoom and was able to compare the food with here it's a huge difference in food, taste, service. Even though we had to wait for hour and half in line at the dishoom restaurant but was worth the wait !! I am a fan of Indian food eating out but I will not come back here in this life.

Brick Lane - a mecca for curry houses. As you make your way from one end to the other, there is no shortage of smiling faces grabbing your attention with promises of the best deal, the best curry, family owned restaurants, authentic dishes and more. It is hard to make the call for the right one. I normally go for the ones requiring the least sales effort and with bums on seats, as there is nothing more off putting than an empty restaurant. Enter tastecard London which has its fair share of Indian partners offering either 2 for 1 or 50% off food on this famous curry street. Having scanned through the tastecard reviews and our old friend Tripadvsior, the Standard Balti House stood out for our weekend lunch. There are a couple of things which are appealing about this place. Firstly, the welcome, with friendly guys who do not give you that dreaded look when you say the word "tastecard". All are welcome with open arms and that is certainly a bonus. The interior, whilst still ethnic, the style is quite contemporary and muted, without the garish colours and prints which can normally frequent such establishments. An international crowd made up of couples, lone diners and what appeared to be adult students from an international school also filled out the spot. Where the menu is concerned, I have my favourites and I tend not to stray. This is bad, as I should experiment now and then. That is why it is good to have a dining partner, as they can bring the newbie dishes to the table for reviews such as these. All your favourite dishes are on the menu, 5 to 8 different blends of cooking sauces with either prawn, chicken, veg or lamb. Our starters were shared poppadoms with the usual dips of mint sauce, mango chutney, seasoned onions and chilli. For the main feature, I opted for my old favourite, chicken rogan josh, which was served slightly different here. Normally it is with large stewed tomatoes, but this had smaller cherry tomatoes. Luckily this did not impact the taste I am used to. I had a side of "ladies fingers" which is okra chopped finely, fried with curry spices and onions. We shared a pilau rice and cheese nan bread. My companion had chicken vindaloo which hello, is one of the spiciest dishes on the menu. I feared for him, but he said this was his thing, he likes spice. There was a slight blush in his face, but he enjoyed it. I of course had to give it a little try, so I cautiously dipped my nan bread in the sauce. Nope, full on spicy food is not my thing. I love this place. It has a combination of comfort, attentiveness, friendliness, familiarity and of course, good food. I will venture here again and yes, I will try a different dish because I felt comfortable enough at the Standard Balti House to do so. We enjoyed 50% off food with tastecard, available every day - but do call if you can to make a reservation.

Comparing to other places in Bricklane serving similar type of cuisine I found this restaurant pleasantly clean and nicely decorated. The lunch deal bargained was a starter +main+beer/wine for £10 per person which was great taking into consideration that the food was well prepared and really tasty.

Got the Lamb Balti, absolutely phenomenal. Next time I'm in London I'll definitely be coming back

You know the food was good when you think about it for days afterward. That basically sums up my experience here.

Visited Standard Balti House in Bricklane with friends. The food was amazing, the staff were friendly. Got 10/10 service. Recommend to anyone.

FOOD 10/10 I haven't eaten Indian food much, but was thoroughly impressed. From my mango lassi which was perfectly sweetened and tart to buttered buns, fried okra, black Dahl, garlic naan, and lamb skewers, everything was delicious. I esp loved the lamb skewers! The food was exceptional -- aroma, flavors, spice levels, portions; everything was perfect. While visiting London, a local friend invited me to Dishoom, knowing how much I love Indian cuisine. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon around 5PM, and the place was already packed. They don't take reservations for dinner unless you're a large group, but trust me, the wait is worth it. They have a fantastic bar where you can grab drinks while you wait for a table (they give you buzzers). I tried the Negroni and another tequila-based cocktail (sadly I can't remember the name), and both were phenomenal. Shared plates are definitely the way to go at Dishoom. We ordered the gunpowder potatoes (incredible), an appetizer with potatoes and pineapple (not my favorite; the pineapple threw me off), monkfish curry (amazing), and chicken curry. It was a lot of food for just two of us, but I couldn't stop eating. I seriously wanted to bottle up that sauce! The service was surprisingly impeccable, especially considering how busy they were. We ended up spending about £110 for an incredible dinner, and we nearly couldn't finish everything. Lastly, the ambiance! Inspired by Iranian cafes in India, the atmosphere at Dishoom is eclectic. I loved the dim lighting, unique decor, and the lively pace of the restaurant. Just go!

So we did some research. Somewhere along the line we found Meraz written up as one of the 12 best Indian restaurants in England. Okay, so we trek over to the East End (pretty wild neighborhood that we enjoyed) for dinner at Meraz. My husband was disappointed not to find a particular dish on the menu, but the waiter didn't hesitate to offer to have the kitchen whip it up special for him. My husband also went a little wild ordering all sorts of appetizers and side dishes. Now I don't like to deal in hyperbole. A five star rating should be sufficient praise. But I'm going to go overboard just this once: BEST INDIAN FOOD I'VE EVER EATEN IN A RESTAURANT. EVER. I've eaten in Indian restaurants at home in Chicago, in L.A., New York, St.Louis, Atlanta, San Francisco, etc., etc. etc. Many have been good, but none approached this. We ate every scrap of all the food we ordered, and only because we had a tight timeline and a busy itinerary for our brief visit to London did we not go back for at least a second meal.

They had the perfect amount of grill flavor and were very saucy and well seasoned. There was no classy way to eat them--they were that good. For our entrées, we ordered the goat shoulder and the half rack of lamb chops. The half rack is more than enough for one person, especially with naan and rice. The reviewers were not lying when they said you must try the lamb chops. They came out sizzling, and we laughed because it took us back to dining at Chili's (iykyk). Perfectly seasoned and incredibly tender. The same goes for the goat shoulder. This was my first time trying it, and I was very impressed with how good it tasted. While I'm not usually a dessert person, you must try the carrot pastry. Think of it like a McDonald's apple pie (the old-school one), but with warm carrot filling on the inside and a sprinkle of pistachio on the outside--just 10x better. Everything here tasted spectacular, including the chili naan. Can't wait to come back and try more dishes.

Booking Process: Made the booking on the phone only a few hours earlier and requested a nice table…read moreand when we arrived we were not disappointed. Location: The restaurant is a little out of the main road and it is just down after the Hakkasan which is next door so easy to find once you get on the right road. Decor & Lighting: Modern design with low light levels and separate bar area as well as a separate private dining room so great for events and private parties. Open Kitchen so you can see all the work. If you want to take photos in the evening you will need to take a light and/or flash. With large glass windows however i think light levels will be fine during the day. Ambience & Acoustics: No need to shout here and music is background and not overpowering. I am sure they can turn up the volume as desired should you want more of a party given i have seen they do live music events in the bar area. But during a normal dinner the level of background music was perfect so you can actually talk without needing to shout. Drinks: Many options here but as i do not drink i focus on the mocktails and they had a good selection and again the staff were able to adjust and amend any based on your taste. You also can get masala chai by the way for all the fans out there. We had the following: Passion Infusion - Asked for one to be more citrus and loved it. Very fresh and sweet but i really enjoyed it. Darbaar Smoothie - A nice red berry drink, thick but full of flavour, i got a hint of cinnamon but i like cinnamon so no complaints there. Food: There is a good selection of food but not too much that you cannot make you mind up. It does seem at first that there is a limited vegetarian selection but this is not the case as they are able to accommodate and make dishes off the menu. One of the party was vegetarian and did not go hungry. Portion size is perfect as any more and we would have wasted it. Worth sharing dishes so you can taste a wider selection. Food all arrived promptly and hot. We had the following: Papad and Chutneys - Great selection and mini papad making it a lot easier to share. Came with three chutneys, all were great and different to the usual. Corn Fritters - Veg option and small portion size but it was nice but not spicy Grill platter (to share) - We asked for the salmon to be substituted which was no issue and you get a selection of Panner, Lamb Sheekh, Murgh Malai Kebab as well as Tandoori Salmon which we had subbed out. The selection and food was fresh and clean. All tasty but mild with the exception of the Lamb Sheekh which had a little kick to it. Chutney served with the dish was just right. Nothing was left.... Nizami / Baby Aubergine - Again everyone liked the dish and something i have not tasted before, came in a sauce which i tried as i don't really like Aubergine (just the consistency i think) but i did enjoy the dish and great vegetarian option for a main course which is not on the menu. I noticed another review said it was caked in oil but i did not find this was the case when we visited. Cumin Roasted Potatoes - Cooked perfectly and a nice side dish. Kasturi Butter Chicken - Cooked well and tasted nice but i am not sure how you can really make a butter chicken taste much different as you get a similar taste in many good Indian restaurants but not too sweet and classic taste so you know what to expect. Rice / Garlic Nan and Roti all served cut and initially looks like a small portion but really fresh and not thick but plenty for us. Garlic nan was really nice and not overpowering. The rice was also really perfectly cooked and very aromatic. Could have eaten the rice just by itself. Desert - Not a large selection but plenty to choose from and they do specials of the day. I was lucky as the special was one of my favourites a Dark Chocolate Fondant with Cinnamon ice cream. Really lovely chocolate sauce inside and it was really good, even though i was full i could not resist and had to eat all of it. Single portion size but enough for a dessert. Highly recommend this dessert if you are a fan of chocolate. Staff / Service: Everyone was super friendly and attentive. There was only some confusion over a second drinks order but this was rectified with no fuss and it is important to know that any issues are dealt with. Head Waiter was always attentive and kept passing by and was always able to help and advice on dishes and happy to make amendments to a dish and even suggested and made off the menu items. We were also introduced to Abdul Yaseen who is the owner and chef. Which was a nice touch. Bill / Cost: We had three in our party and we shared dishes with only mocktails and no alcoholic drinks and the bill came to £50 per head (£150 total for three of us) which i think is reasonable for fine dining. But i would add another £20-40 for those drinking depending on how much is consumed. Conclusion: I would highly recommend a visit and its nice to be in a different area
