Grown up grilled cheese and corn chowder
    Ophelia M.

Stopped in Boll Weevil recently for dinner with a colleague. It was a Monday night at 6:30pm and we were able to be seated straight away. The vibes are casual and comfortable which pairs perfectly with the fare. There was live music while we were there (which was pitch perfect in volume as we were still able to speak comfortably). We sat and my dining companion mentioned they have a decent number of stouts on menu. I ordered a spiced stout, which was amazing. We also ordered their fried green tomatoes, which were great. It was my first experience with fried green tomatoes and they seemed to be an elevated version with a drizzle of balsamic and a horseradish sauce to accompany. Lovely! For my main, I got the grown up grilled cheese and a cup of their corn chowder. The grilled cheese was a tasty combination of pimento cheese and applewood smoked bacon on sourdough. It was divine. The corn chowder is hearty and flavorful. The service was friendly and the prices are reasonable. Get to it!

As the saying goes, "the more things change, the more they stay the same." And if you've been in Augusta you know downtown is ever changing (for the better). New places to eat, shop, and even art to discover. But just off the beaten path, though directly across from the Augusta Convention Center, is a spot that has been baking cakes, frying green tomatoes, and making bowls of corn chowder for 35 years! Boll Weevil is diverse in its clientele because of its diversity in offerings. You need a meal? Or just dessert? Or an entire cake? Or maybe one of the biggest selections of porters and stouts in the area? Yep, you guessed it. All right here at Boll Weevil. And come through to hear live music, join in on Bingo night, or experience a open mic. I have been here solo, as a couple, and with the extended family. There's seating and great customer service whatever the party size. If you haven't been, or it's been awhile, stop nito Boll Weevil soon. Also, bring your appetite for the desserts. They are humongous!

Stopped by here for lunch stopping through town on a Saturday. We had a wonderful server, Leila, who was super sweet and told us which dishes she recommends. We're glad we listened to her because her suggestions were good. We had the Havana Chicken with a side of Cesar salad and my husband had the Southern Gent Sammich with a side of corn chowder. I liked the chicken and the corn chowder but felt the rice that came with the chicken was not good. My husband enjoyed his sandwich. Lastly we finished with a slice of key lime pie which we both really enjoyed. In summary, the chicken itself, corn chowder and key lime pie were my favorites from what we ordered. Docking a star because the rice was not good with the chicken and that was a significant part of the dish. Thank you Leila for your hospitality!

It's been almost a year since I visited... Definitely not the same. The bread was different and not nearly as good as it used to be. Sandwich was much smaller. But the service was good, thanks to Rhagen. Overall, it was a little disappointing.

Dive bar ambiance. Good service. Free Street parking or their own lot. Southern cooking with some healthy vegetarian options. I enjoyed the black bean burger with cucumber salad and asian slaw. They offer this burger 2 different ways, and with your choice of bun/bread/hoagie and choice of side. I enjoyed the house salad with vidalia dressing. Hummingbird cake was ok but not as good as i expected. The texture was more finely ground than expected; the texture of the cake reminded me of a cake mix. Frosting is delicious. Right near the riverfront park. I would dine here again.

    A big cockroach

My sister in law at the Boll Weevil. And this roach was crawling on her. Manager did nothing. Just said it was an old building. Won't be back. He was a jack ass.

Boll Weevil Café is one of the first places in Augusta that I ever learned about, prior to ever visiting the area. It is a cute restaurant located downtown and near the river. Their cake and cheesecake slices are very well known and recommended by many! During my year in Augusta, I dined here probably five times. My take away from my experience is that the food is not the best ever, but it is a good place to go when you are with a couple of people and you want them to have options. Every time I have been here, I have only been for lunch. Never did I order anything for dinner. I definitely think the Experience of sitting in the place is worth it and I'm not sure that I would recommend just ordering something to go. Staff are friendly, but I'm think I like sitting at the bar best!

Place was clean. Music was at good volume so I wasn't yelling at my husband to have a conversation. The waitress was nice but not sure she cared for me so much. She seemed distant at the table. He ordered the Reuben Sandwich with tomato apple soup. He said the Reuben was good. The meat wasn't as tender as would liked. The tomato soup tasted like canned soup with additions. He would order the sandwich again but not the soup. I ordered the pimento cheese burger and chips. I got the burger and pasta salad. I stated I didn't ask for the pasta salad and she promptly brought me chips. The burger was a little more spicy than I expected it to be. It was good though. I'd order it again. The chips are kettle chips. They were as expected. We ordered a few craft beers. We enjoyed them and posted our review of those on Untappd. We also got a piece of cake. A single order was large enough for both of us it was more than we could eat. It was the 7th Heaven. It was good not impressive. Not close my eyes and moan delicious but good. Parking was around the back which is nice to not have to park on the street or search for parking. We will eat there again. It was good not great.

They have a number of stuffed and warm cookies to choose from. I couldn't decide on just one flavor and so opted for two! This was a bit of a mistake as their cookies are really large and dense which I discovered when the worker placed the first box with one cookie on the counter before me and it made an audible kerplunk. My goodness! I got their chocolate peanut butter cookie as well as a sugar cookie. When I realized how ample the cookies were, I gave the sugar cookie to the hotel clerk at my hotel, so I can only speak to the chocolate peanut butter cookie. It was sweet and delicious. I will note that their cookies are very sweet. I don't eat sweets often so the rich sweetness of one cookie was a bit much for me. Were I to go again, I'd probably split one with a friend. That said, the cookie was warm and ooey-gooey. It's kind of an inside out peanut butter cup with a peanut butter cookie surrounding a fudge-y chocolate center. If you like a chocolate/pb combo--this cookie is for you! The workers were lovely. I walked in with no familiarity with the biz and the clerk immediately gave me the rundown of their cookies and how ordering works. They were all so nice in here! So it wasn't a total surprise to find that they have decided to move to suburban Augusta. The new shopping center they've chosen was otherwise still under construction when I stopped in, but several groups of people had found this place and were shopping for ice cream. I imagine on a nice summer day there will be a line when word gets out. Not a lot of really top end ice cream around here, but this place knows how to infuse flavor. A more caramel and cookie creation complemented my dark and bitter chocolate. The chocolate came with Andes mints inside, which sounded nice but honestly could hardly be tasted because the flavor of the ice cream itself was so strong. Premium local ice cream isn't cheap, but here I did get a heaping portion size as I watched more flavors being created in the back of the shop.

I visited this place while traveling on a hot, sunny weekend right when it opened, and it was an utter pleasure. Parking: there's plenty of street parking. I parked right in front of the dessert cafe. Free parking. Ambiance: it's a dark themed place with grey walls, a luxurious plush couch, and a dungeon-ish feel. It's more Halloween themed kind of style than luxurious. It's a cute mix of orange and black-grey themes. There's soft upbeat music in the background. Right when it opens is a great time to go! I nearly had the whole cafe to myself! Dessert: I ended up getting their pineapple cheesecake with cheesecake snow. It was light, fluffy, creamy. It's similar to Korean shaved ice or a lighter Italian shaved ice. It melts in your mouth and releases the sweetness. You can build your own and they have premade flavors such as turtle cheesecake, amaretto romance, cotton candy, vampy sour, orange dream, I love you Cheryl much, Mexican candy, pina colada. I ordered large, and I could definitely finish it all for myself! This is a chain that started in California. They start with a proprietary base, mix in the flavors, freeze it into a block, shave it, and then decorate it. In addition, the worker informed me that some of the cheesecake flavors have a homemade purée, with the strawberry cheesecake being the most popular. I'm 100% visiting again when I come back to Georgia!
