Bodacious was totally radical man!! On our quest for the best smoked brisket in TX... we had to stop and try this place... I mean... with a name like that, ya just gotta. We were staying at a nearby place, and the kiddos were hungry. So we pulled in and pretty much already knew what we were looking for. The interior was pretty cool with hanging model planes from different eras. Had a classic/western feel to it. The place was not packed, and it might have been the timing, but it allowed my granddaughter an opportunity to stretch her legs and we did some "reach for the sky" tosses! She giggled her heart out and the staff didn't seem to mind. Now for the food.... Um... yeah! Something tubular about some bodacious meat! Loved it! Now... was it the "knock your boots off and curl your socks" good? Not quite... so the quest continues for THE BEST smoked meat. Don't get me wrong though, the shredded pork, brisket, Mac and cheese was spot on! The baked beans were a perfect compliment as for sides go. They sell fried "fish" at actual catfish prices. Swai isn't catfish and is MUCH cheaper. The side of okra with my "fish" barely covered the bottom of the container. Mac&cheese was awful. Wife's bar-b-q was average at best. $52 for 2 people. They'll never get my $ again. read more

This is not barbecue. Where is the stack of wood? There is none front or back. They must be using a phony indoor pellet smoker of some sort. Food tastes oven baked. The really good Bodacious BBQ in Tyler was on Troup Hwy but unfortunately closed down. Bodacious is very good in Longview and Sulphur Springs. Do not waste your time or money at this place. Nothing outrageously amazing, but good food and a bright clean restaurant with cool decor, including a range of old western photos and 3 large model planes suspended from the ceiling. I was surprised that this place wasn't packed at lunchtime on a Saturday but there was a steady stream of customers while I was there. I'd give them 4 stars just for the restaurant itself---great a/c, music, cleanliness, overall experience. The 3 star rating is probably mostly because their bbq sauce wasn't my fave, but hey, I came here for bbq and I wanted to see what they offered. Also, in fairness I only had a turkey sandwich and side of slaw, which was served to my table with a warm(!) bottle of bbq sauce. The turkey was moist and plentiful and with the slaw it hit the spot. They have a large menu and had I been hungrier I probably would have gone with a 2 meat plate or stuffed potato. Also, as the locals probably already know, they have a drive through window for orders to go. Come check these guys out! read more

Just had lunch here. 9 out of 10. Would have been a 10 but they only make french fries on the weekends. Mac and cheese was creamy and cheesy. Sweet tea was great. Brisket was generously served, well seasoned, and great texture. I am not a sweet sauce guy but my party loved it. The best surprise was the individual apple pie. It as dusted with sugar on the outside and the insides were bursting with apple chunks and cinnamon flavor. The crust was tasty and perfect consistency. You gotta have one next time you go. I've also encountered this during the week as early as 5pm. This place has THE BEST TASTING RIBS in TYLER..,if you get there when they open, evidently. I was recently back in Texas after being away for several years. Always loved Bodacious BBQ's Sloppy Joe. During my stay in Tyler I purchased 2 lbs from the store on Frankston Hwy and 2 lbs from the one on Troop Hwy. the one on Frankston was more like a quart of sauce and 1/2 cup of chopped. Really disappointing. However the one on Troop was just as I remembered. Enough beef in the mix to make a decent sandwich and have it stay on the bread. Visited this Bodacious after having been away from the area for about 10 years, and was just slightly disappointed. The pork ribs were excellent (meaty and spicy), but the other chopped meats and sides were not as revelatory as I recalled them to be. Prices were significantly higher as well, putting it probably out of the range for a casual lunch. I have received packets of their rub several times as gifts, and it's probably my favorite grill rub, so I was excited to purchase it in person. I still very much enjoyed it (it blows away BBQ restaurants in my hometown), but I thought it could be better, especially on price. read more

Went here about a month after they opened this location with a coworker and neither of us were impressed. The meat didn't have very good flavor and the food was way too expensive for what it was. I think my lunch ticket, with a drink, was $14 which is quite a bit more than I normally spend for lunch. Probably will not return. read more
