My family and I have been ordering from Bocella's Deli for years and they have yet to disappoint. I usually get a Regular 12" Cheesesteak with American Cheese, Fried Onions and Mushrooms and they are not lying when they say the 12" Cheesesteak has a pound of steak. The Cheesesteak always comes stuffed with plenty of your requested toppings. If you ask for pickles on the side, you'll receive about a 1/3 of a delicious deli pickle all sliced up. Other things we've ordered from here are Italian Hoagies, Fried Fish Platter, Fried Mushrooms (appetizer) and Onion Rings. For the amount of food you receive for the price, Boccella's Deli is definitely worth giving a try. You definitely will not be disappointed. read more

Good spot. Nice people, good hours, and a solid cheesesteak as well. Fresh meat, good fried onions, and a nice fresh, soft roll. Quite enjoyable. Onion rings are good too. Nice batter. Crunchy and light. And real onions. Top it off with a good selection of beer and refreshments and quite a variety of stuff well beyond a typical deli. Their wing dings are amazing. And the spicy ones too (which come w a great blue cheese)! Cheesesteaks are very good, but the pizza steak lacked sauce and cheese for my taste, not terrible though. My wife has a cheeseburger, Kaiser roll was old, but still ok. Staff is very friendly both on the phone and in person. Italian supreme is king. Grabbed a regular sized hoagie for a snack as I rode out on the Amtrak for an outta town trip. Smelt so good after one bite half of it was gone! Fresh deli meats and perfectly baked bread. Bread makes the sandwich! soft interior with a nice soft crust that held up. Meat was well-packed and not diced to oblivion (for the pre-chewed look) as many local places do it. Kudos. Amer cheese was well proportioned. Didn't taste the onions as much as I'd like but next time I'm sure they will accentuate if asked. They were extremely nice on the phone. Korean Beef BBQ was good, served in a soft tortilla not a crispy taco, as Dan L. pointed out in a prior review. The beef was really just cheesesteak meat mixed with a special Teriyaki sauce, put on a bed of lettuce, and with salsa on the side. This is a really imaginative take on what to do with cheesesteak meat, and it hits a flavor that you normally don't achieve with traditional cheesesteaks. Perfect if you are in the mood for a Teriyaki flavor. Super-awesome value for the money at this place. Food is way better quality than I thought we'd get for the prices. We are very pleased! This deli is a real jewel in Havertown It's the old family deli that are not so common anymore. Everything is made fresh with high quality ingredients. The prices are great and portions are very generous. It's amazing all the things they make and are always very friendly. Reminds me of trips to the deli with my Dad as a kid. read more

I'm not from Havertown (have lived in MD, NY, NJ,CA) but am proud to call Havertown home. However, if I ever left Havertown, this is place I. Would miss the most. The food is awesome (Italians, Texas chicken, Cuban, chicken tenders, etc), you can't go wrong. The beer selection is off the charts and way better than the craft beer stores around. Not even close. Not the friendliest establishment, but they serve great food and have an incredible beer selection. In general, I would much rather support little mom & pop places like this than corporate chains, but it's an even easier choice when they a) have an extensive, varied menu, and b) everything on the menu rocks. I seriously have never had a bad meal here. They're also f.a.s.t. - you never have to wait for an order. To top it off, whoever chooses their ever-revolving beer list has great taste. There's always a number of flavorful, regional craft beers to choose from at Boccella's. Delis and hoagie shops are a dime a dozen in the greater Philly region, but there's a reason this spot does so much business. read more

Deli eats with a side of unsolicited passive aggressiveness? I came here after a leisurely afternoon of shopping at Suburban Square (thanks to the doting Yelp reviews). Once I arrived, there were several things that gave me pause: 1) The stodgy, homogenized atmosphere that easily could have been the setting for a '60s era lunch counter sit-in w/ the exception of the Asian clerk behind the counter, 2) The somewhat limited pescetarians options, and 3) The fact that they were out of waffle fries - the very reason I came here after seeing a picture posted on Yelp that literally made my mouth water. I decided to give this place a fighting chance and ordered an eggplant panini... So far, all is well. However, let me mention the unconventional model they've adopted where you pay after you eat. That factoid will be very important later on in my review. I went and grabbed a seat and after a little bit of a wait, my food eventually arrived. It was edible, but nothing special by any means. The panini was bland (i.e., there wasn't enough provolone cheese; the eggplant was under seasoned; there was mounds of iceberg lettuce; and the bread was burnt) and the fries were also underwhelming. However, I decided to enjoy the meal for what it was, while watching the football game on the flat screen in the back of the dining area. I soon finished my meal, gave the clerk my tray, and quickly made a beeline for the restroom. Afterwards, I exited back into the store/deli and headed out the door, right pass the clerk, to my car (being that I'm not used to paying AFTER finishing a meal at a deli/lunch counter/non-full service restaurant). The clerk immediately comes running out after me saying, "Sir, did you pay?" Darn, I had totally forgotten and I graciously returned to settle up. As I walked back into the restaurant a middle-aged white male (who sat at a diagonal, behind me, the entire time I was eating) yelled to the clerk, "Good awareness!" Really? Did anyone solicit your off color remarks, sir? Keep your biased, passive aggressiveness to yourself. If these are the types of people who patronize this establishment, I have no interest in ever going back. read more

Stopped in again last night, picked up a cheesesteak with fried onions. It was truly top tier! I noticed right away the roll they used for the cheesesteak was different than the one they use for their hoagies. It was your classic steak roll such as Liscio's or Amoroso's, very nice slightly crusty, slightly chewy exterior with a fluffy interior. Their menu claims they use 1lb of meat on the regular (12") steak. It was that or more. They used slices of steak instead of the chopped up steak. I like it either way, but prefer slices-especially when it is as tender as this. I got the cheesesteak special which comes with fries and is an outstanding value for dinner, ringing in at under $10. Although I drove home with my food and my fries were soggy (unavoidable) by the time I got home, they were STILL good! I can only imagine how amazing they would have been if I had eaten at B's. Boccella's is quickly becoming my go to place for sandwiches in Htown. If only they served pizza, I might never leave the place! read more

Came here because I was craving a cheesesteak, but they were out of steak. It was only 1:30pm :( Instead we got a burger to split. The burger was massive but so delicious. I suggest keeping it wrapped as the burger started falling off the bun. Very flavorful. It also came with a side of onion rings. I am a sucker for onion rings and these were also great! A perk of this place that I had no idea about was the solid beer selection. It was like Christmas morning all over again with the Cantillon bottles, Russian River, and Trillium cans. This is some weird hybrid of craft beer outlet, deli and convenience store just outside of Philly. But the cheesesteaks are legit -- huge, tasty, melty and on some amazing buns brought in fresh. The value is good too, and the waffle fries are the bomb. The only downside was that they were out of mushrooms and the hot peppers aren't spicy at all. Well, and it's sort of like sitting in a booth at a gas station (even though it's not one). Very friendly staff though. read more

I like to get take out from here sometimes. I have yet to have a bad meal. They have a pretty large menu. They also have breakfast which I have yet to try. My favorite thing to get from here is the chicken cheesesteaks, they are possibly the best ones I have ever had. The large is giant! I got it once thinking it wasn't going to be that big, it is probably big enough for 4 people!! I thought it was going to be smaller based off the price, pricing is very reasonable here. I found this place about a year and a half ago while I was in the area. I was doing a Google search for cheese steaks locally. So I decided to stop in and try their food, I have to say they have an excellent tasting cheese steak and their fries are very good too. Whenever I'm coming up from Virginia (I'm a Philly native born and raised in the Northeast area), I always make a point of stopping in for a good sandwich or whatever I feel like eating at the time and never leave disappointed. The staff is always very helpful too, very nice people. I also order a hoagie or two to have for another meal. Thank you to the great people at Boccella's for your wonderful service and great food, I look forward to my next visit in about a week from now. I will post pictures after my next visit. read more
