I'm going to preface this by saying we probably ordered wrong. I think the secret is the fried stuff. Fried fish. Fried things. All things fried. However, we did get the chowder, and that's probably what you have to get when you go to a place with the name chowder in the title. What we did order, however, was a salad with grilled salmon. Grilled salmon was mentioned many times. Grilled. Salmon. We were in a hurry, so we grabbed it to go, got to the ferry terminal, and I guess that salmon was so fresh that it swam away, because as much as we searched it never turned up. Fair enough, they forgot to enter it on the ticket, so I didn't pay for it. We wanted a biscuit, and they also forgot to charge us for that, but threw one in anyway. As for the salad, without salmon, it was just a plain ol salad. But fresh, so I'll give them that. We opted with the "lemon love" dressing which had a lemony flavor, but is creamy and not vinaigrette-ya, and landed on the palate somewhere between lemon bars and lemon air freshener. That sounds bad, but I mean, who doesn't like lemons? The chowder was fine. Bob, you had so much potential. If I ever came back, it would be a fried bonanza. Amazing homemade chowder, one of the best in the region. The variant with fried clams (clamdigger) is over-the-top amazing. It would be 5 stars but to be honest, I tried 4 other menu items (fried fish, fried pickles, crab tots, fried chicken) and they were all misses. Chowder so good it makes up for the rest. Whenever we're up this area we always stop here! The New England Clam Chowder is always a must and super good. This visit I decided to get mine in a bread bowl. It was good but next time I'd opt for just a regular bowl with the crostini's. For beer, we chose Bob's Riptide Pilsner and it was served in a glass that was so cold that the foam froze. It was awesome! The beer was super good and I'd definitely recommend! The other thing I'd HIGHLY recommend is grabbing a bottle, or two, of the Lemon Love dressing. It's so tasty on fish sandwiches, tacos, salads or just on the side! It's a tough condiment to find outside of here so grab it while you can!! read more

A friend and I were driving through Anacortes Washington today and we stopped at Bob's Chowder Bar. I had their cod fish and chips will a cup of chowder. My friend had a bread bowl of chowder with clam strips. While both were very tasty I feel they may have been a bit overpriced for what they were. We both have their key lime pie for a dessert, it was tasty but the crust was like 3/4 of an inch thick in places and hard as a rock. So the next question is would I stop there again and what I recommended to friends yeah it was a good place to eat but again a little overpriced. read more

This place has decent fish and chips and a couple cute waitresses so that's the 2 stars. But definitely avoid the halibut sandwich. The halibut is a perfectly circular fried patty which means it is obviously just a frozen patty from Costco. (Minus 3 stars). I might expect this from a kids menu at a chain restaurant in Ohio but Pretty pathetic honestly that any restaurant in Anacortes would serve a frozen fish patty from Costco or other wholesaler. We drive from Marysville to Bobs on a regular basis because the seafood is so good. I am partial to the sour dough clam chowder bowl, while my husband loves the fish and chips, and he is very picky about his fish and chips! My partner and I went and met our family, because we sat at the same table, and more than 8 of us, all on three separate tabs, each tab had an additional 20% added, which was non negotiable or mentioned ahead of time. We ordered one drink each, and split the fried pickles and a salad. That tab then cost 75 dollars, for an appetizer salad and beverages. We waited a total of an hour and fifteen minutes before we saw any of the food. Service was alright but not anything I need to come back for. Excellent! Go here! You will not regret it. The staff was super friendly and willing to accommodate anything you need. We ordered the Clam Digger chowder bread bowl, Prawns, and the Oyster Sandwich. All was Great. Not over-cooked and portions were large. We also enjoyed discussing the flavor of Anacortes with our waiter. There was also a piano that our son played a few tunes on. 10 stars! I wish I would've taken a picture of the food for this review, but sadly I inhaled it too quickly. Seriously BEST clam chowder, and a fantastic salmon taco. My kid got a sourdough bread bowl and when they say fresh, they mean actually FRESH. Like a lovely overwhelming of sourdough aroma, and hot bread. My kid is usually super picky, but was thoroughly happy with his lunch. The staff is kind, courteous, and smooth. The indoor decor is beach-y and fun. A must stop for seafood lovers on Anacortes! Mom and I spent the day together and we decided to drive up to Anacortes, eat lunch, do a little shopping and see the sights. Our main reason for going was that we wanted to taste the BEST CHOWDER in the World. And so we drove... 65 miles north. We had never been to Bob's, but my oh my this restaurant has a high rating on Yelp. First, the menu. I love the choices. I was HUNGRY and it was difficult making a choice but in the end I went with a sour dough chowder bowl, mom wanted prawns, and a cup of chowder. We ordered fried avocado as a starter. But I digress, I should first say that our server took about 20 minutes to get to our table. In the meantime he was taking other peoples orders who had arrived after us. Many, many, many times he walked by our table refusing to make eye contact so we would obviously look at him trying to get him to stop. Nope, he was having none of it. So, back to ordering. When he took our orders he asked mom if she'd like her chowder with the appetizer. She said, yes. About 15 minutes later, he arrived with a chowder bowl for me and fish n chips for mom. She had ordered prawns. She told him she didn't order that and I asked where the fried Avocado's were. He took her plate, no apologies and disappeared. I sat there with a chowder bowl, not wanting to eat it because mom didn't have any food. Then he came back and told her they'd make her the prawns now. She didn't want to wait so just ordered a bowl of chowder and I told him to skip the fried avocado. After mom received her bowl of Chowder a woman, whom I think was the manager, but she didn't introduce herself, came up to us and asked us if someone else besides our server had taken our order. We told her no. She said thank you, and that was that. It was an odd experience. Never was there an apology from anyone, though we weren't looking for one, later we reflected that it was odd that no one ever uttered, "I'm sorry that happened". Not even the woman that we think was the manager. Okay, so on to the chowder. It is indeed the best chowder in the WORLD! Even after all of that, we will most likely be back and give them another chance so I can update this review. Maybe it was his first day, maybe they were crazy short staffed, maybe it was his... last day. I suspect it was a fluke. So instead of giving the restaurant a 2 because the service really was appalling, I'll give it a 3 because the chowder really was magnificent and as Arnold says, "we'll be back"... or at least I will. read more

It was my first time there, so I ordered The Mighty Bob. There is an assortment of fried seafood - codx2, prawns x3, oysters x3, and clams strips. My favorite are the oysters - very large juicy oysters with a light batter outside. This comes with fries, slaw, tartar, and cocktail sauce. This comes in a box and can feed 2-3 people. It's been a while since I've actually dined in at Bob's and thought it time for another go. The menu has changed significantly since my last visit. I opted for the Rock Crab Roll. Toasted bun with crisp romaine, sliced tomatoes and a cold rock crab salad. The crab salad was made with their lemon dressing which paired quite well and was executed with nice proportions. You could still taste the crab which is a huge plus in my book! The portions of entrees and fries are not oversized. Rather I'd call them just right. Sandwich plus fries and I still had room for dessert. I went in for the coconut pound cake. I did not make a mistake. Yum. It does come with a chocolate drizzle on top. Bob's is my son's favorite after school snack. The mini bob meal is tasty crispy thin-cut french fries, tiny chunks of panko breaded fish, and a drink with a side of salt water taffy. For me I'm a big fan of ordering their chowder poutine off-menu. It's a perfect winter treat! A small cup of fries, with chowder and fries poured on top. Its sounds so wrong but tastes so right! My friend and I took a road trip to Anacortes, and luckily found Bob's without door dining. It looked great from the outside and inside is a cute local chowder house. We enjoyed our Chowder Bowl and Fish and chips. The have different ciders, i had one that was Huckleberry and it was delicious. The owner was wonderful. He introduced himself. We chatted about NW chowder and clams vs New England Chowder and claims. It was a relaxing fun experience, and the food was pretty good too. I'd go back. Give it a try if you are in town. read more

I think the best chowder I had was at Splash Cafe in California. I actually like Ivar's chowder better than the one that they served here. It wasn't that hearty. What I really did enjoy was their friend oysters that they put inside their bread bowl. It was delicious. I don't usually enjoy eating oysters but the oysters here were delicious. We've been fans since the farmers market days! Today's experience was quite different and not in a good way unfortunately.. We ordered to go and when we got to Cap Sante' the cheap plastic lid on the chowder came off and poured into the fish & chips! Gone are the trusty cardboard lids that held tight! The chowder was another fail, it was so watered down it tasted horrible! Again, not the Bob's Chowder we knew and loved Also very disappointed to be greeted by employees wearing masks! This place is so legit. They offer a beautiful menu, full of options and down right great food. They won't leave you hanging on dishes that you could get at any fast food seafood joint. My opinion is it seems this place has been around for a while (I live in Seattle so I'm not overly familiar with Anacortes) and pretty sure they will be around for a long time. Great food menu! It was our first time at Bob's Chowder Bar, when most places closed on Labor Day. My daughter wanted to try their fried pickle and we really like it. It's crunchy and juicy, not too sour or salty which is perfect. I also had their chowder sampler because I couldn't decide which single flavor I want. And it's good, I made the right choice.
