    Brie & Garlic Burger
    Kelley G.

By @iwanttobewhatieat If Brie was a friend, you would hype her up every day and tell her what a bad ass bitch she is for being way better than all the other cheeses.@porterhousepub slayed the Brie & Garlic burger. The clam chowder as well as fish and chips were also drool worthy. The lesson of this story is you should order all three on repeat. I highly recommend this little gem in Mount Vernon Washington. Our server was excellent and smacked the crap out of lunch service all by herself on the floor.

Stroganoff and Carne Asada Mac n Cheese

Great service! Great food! Mac n Cheese with Carne Asada and the Stroganoff were great! Also got the calamari which were a bit small and not worth the price. Happy hour made them a bit more cost worthy.

My wife and i stopped in for a quick lunch and cold brew. Free parking can be found on the street as well in the community parking lot. Discover is an accepted form of payment. There was nothing quick about our lunch here. Severely understaffed with only one waitperson working the bar as well as the restaurant. We seated ourselves and waited 10 minutes for the table to be cleaned off. We waited another 10 minutes just for our brews to be served. We were seated for an hour before our lunch was finally set down in front of us. We each had a couple of local pints of brew for $5 each. Fair pricing. We shared the Porterhouse Cheeseburger for $12: cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and french fries. We had to cut our own burger to avoid having a split plate charge of $2. Overall the one waitperson was friendly, the brews tasty and the food decent. Hopefully the next time we stop in here, staffing will be sufficient.

    BBQ Brisket Sandwich

First time here. Easy to find. The help is friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed. Wood floors (original), wood tables (rustic), plenty of seating options (tables, booths, bar, high table, half both with 2 chairs). Very comfortable place to meet, eat, or just have a drink and some conversation. The BBQ Brisket Sandwich was AWESOME. The brisket had a nice smokey flavor to it. The sauce was just right and it was topped off with fresh coleslaw. The fries were OK - full disclosure, I am not a fry guy. The wife thought they were really good. I would trust her judgement on that over mine. It was a 50 mile drive on a whim and we were very satisfied. I would actually come back for just lunch all on its own and drive straight back home. If you are in Mt. Vernon or want good food, great atmosphere, and friendly help, swing on in and treat yourself at the Porterhouse Pub.

I came for lunch with a large group today. I was rather pleased by the speed of service, considering that the server seemed to have quite a large portion of the restaurant. She was very impressive. I tried the elk burger, which was tender and moist burger. Fries was delicious! Plenty of parking nearby

    Fish tacos, just ok.

This was a decent place to hang out during the happy hour, we sat by the big glass window and it was a nice sunnier day, so it felt good after a long walk in the tulip fields and in the farmer's market that was also on that day. The beer selection is awesome, lots of IPAs on draft, the wine selection is ok. Happy hour has some discounts, although the salad that I ordered is the same price on the regular menu. The fish tacos my friend ordered were just ok, although they looked good there was nothing too special. The crab corn chowder was good. And the salad was decent. Our waitress was accommodating and checked in on us, despite being the only server at that time. I would definitely go back for the decent beer selection, not so much for food.

The patio faces one of the main streets so there was lots of good people watching. I ordered a beer flight and was very satisfied with all four of my selections: Prickly Pear Kolsch - it was creamy and easy to drink, bursting with prickly pear flavor; just the right amount of tart and sweet. Lightly Buzzed Honey Lavender Blonde - my favorite of the flight; it was very hoppy but light and refreshing and well balanced by intense lavender flavor and a smooth honey finish. Get it! You won't regret it. High Five Hefe - lighter/less hazy and more hoppy than most hefes it made for a unique and complimentary beer on my flight. Pommeroys Citra Pale Ale - a perfect West Coast IPA. To eat, my pup got the Lucky Dog hamburger (which the chef pre-cut) and loved it! He chowed down in less than a minute. And I got the Mac & Cheese Burger (sub a veggie patty) with the Garlic Fries. It was a very indulgent meal to say the least. The burger was loaded with so much Mac & Cheese that I couldn't even put the top bun on it and pick it up. lol I had to knife and fork the whole thing which was totally worth it. The Mac is a classic home style recipe (think Stouffers but better). Their fries are shoestring and super crispy and salty. And they loaded those up with an amazing garlic aioli and Parmesan. I got a side of their house-made curry aioli and was obsessed with it. Every fry that didn't have sauce or parm got a dip in that deliciousness and I added it to quite a few of the burger bites too. All in all, a great brewpub that I look forward to returning to in the future!

Not just a brewery, women-owned TH is also a taphouse featuring an assortment of tasty local and regional beers, wines, seltzers, and ciders. You'll find anything from their own house-brewed beers to local favorite breweries from around Washington State. I like going here with The Dude, because they've always got at least a couple of good IPAs on tap for him, as well as more mild choices for those of us who aren't as into over-the-top hoppiness. What sets Temperate Habits apart, though, is their excellent menu. From quirky options (like their famous mac 'n cheese burger) to more traditional offerings (like my favorite, the caesar salad with salmon), there's something here to fit most tastes, and most budgets. We love going here for lunch, grabbing a couple of pints, and splitting one of their tasty cheeseburgers. I'm also a fan of their appetizer brussel sprouts, made (of course) with Skagit Valley's finest. They do have an outdoor patio, which is a good place for people watching (but can get kind of loud as it's right on the street). Going solo? There's almost always a spot at their friendly bar!

Case in point: I like dark beers, especially in cooler weather. They had a porter, which tasted tangy but not quite like a sour, and a stout, which mysteriously tasted very like an English porter, but too light a body for a stout, certainly no creamy head to speak of, and again that sour note. Whatevs. The drink menu is mostly chock-a-block with IPAs, blondes and lagers - ambers and darks are perhaps just not in their wheelhouse. We also came because they supposedly have a pool table here. And they do - tucked away in a dimly lit corner upstairs. We had to ask the waitress to turn on the lights for us, but only a mostly-burned out string of Costco tivoli lights served to illuminate the space. It was very hard to see the balls, or our food. Food? We had a flatbread pizza and Brussels. They were ok. They're probably better at sandwiches...again, we hit 'em where they ain't... So, the "up and down" bit: If you want to sit upstairs, fine, but you must order downstairs. Want to use a restroom? Downstairs. All done and ready to close tab? Downstairs. The bartender (running the place solo, apparently) was gracious and accommodating in bringing us food and refills upstairs, though, and we tipped accordingly. Good service. Not our particular cup of tea, perhaps, but give 'em a shot if you like IPAs and lagers, and don't care a whiff about pool or pizza. You might like it!
