The lines go by fast, the food is very good, you get a lot of food and the grounds are set up very nice for social distancing.

Worst BBQ ever.... I used to stop there for nice ribs or chicken a few times a year. Last week I stopped there and got take out food. 1 Brisket meal, one rib meal and one chicken meal. The cost was way to high $63.00 for over seasoned dry chicken, ribs and the sides where horrible. I asked for salt potato's and received mushy sweet potato's instead. I ask for corn on the cob and I received corn on the cob that was left over from the day before. The people working there could not care less about waiting on you in a timely manner. Food is good and service is usually pretty good. However, upon sitting and eating some of our meal, I was asked by my family to go up and get more butter because we only had one. There was no one waiting in line when I got up to the counter again, I thought I would be nice and buy a chocolate milk since they had restocked since my family had checked out. There was a young man up front who had checked us out and was now stocking drinks, he said he would be with me in a minute. I waited 10 minutes for anyone else to acknowledge me. A line built up behind me, and when I finally asked for some quick service, I was told that I couldn't budge in the line that had built up behind me. I have generally had good experiences here, but they need a better set up for people who just need to grab more butter/utensils/etc. Even if I hadn't been attempting to buy another drink, it shouldn't take 10 minutes for someone to get more butter. No one even bothered asking what I needed or what my order was. read more

Passing through the area and found this divine joint when our tummies started to rumble. Polite and friendly staff, finger licking good food all in a park setting. Definitely worth the stop. Awesome chicken (yes a future repeat), brisket sandwich was tasty, stew was good, but a bit thinner like soup than stew. Pleased they had unsweetened iced tea in the case! We were greeted by a young girl with a bad attitude. She had wrist bands and bracelets on that were touching our food and the food containers. She was rolling her eyes while plating our food and was obviously having a bad day. We made the mistake of walking to the register because the girl at the register asked what we wanted to drink with our food. We all went to place our drink order and this made Mariah angry. She told me at the register that next time we need to wait until the food is ready before moving on to order drinks. No worries Mariah, we won't be back. As for the food, the ribs were perfect and the pulled pork was good. The brisket was finely chopped and drenched in juice and sauce. You couldn't taste the meat because it was more like soup with bits of meat. The corn on the cob was water logged and flavorless. We had two people order the 1/4 chicken with sides. The dark meat chicken was moist and flavorful. The white meat chicken was too dry to eat. When we ordered 1/4 chicken, we were not given an option of white or dark meat. Never judge a book by its cover: a barbecue joint in Upstate NY located in a rural bucolic green setting which appears out of nowhere in Homer, NY and looks like a converted farm stand location with smoke rising from and spreading across the property and road. It seemed like I would be in for a special BBQ treat...and I was. Here are the three primary areas which best describe my experience: 1] Atmosphere: Bob's is located in a rural area along a quiet winding stretch of road. Seating is exclusively outdoors, spacious and the area is very quiet. Smoke from the BBQ tends not to rise and blow away from the building (There is NO indoor facility for seating, bathrooms or service). Smoke hugs the ground and, depending on the wind direction, you could be dining in quite a cloud of smoke. When I dined, I found the atmosphere to be quiet, relaxing and only slightly affected by the smoke. All bathrooms are Port O John's...yum.... 2] Service: There is one line for service. One views the menu posted on a large board while on line before approaching the service counter. Interaction with the staff is highly limited so, the counter staff only have to do one thing well when dealing with customers: serve them properly. In other words, take customer orders accurately and politely, put the food into a styrofoam container and collect payment. This is where things got nucked up for me. I ordered a mixed BBQ meal which offered brisket and pork accompanied by a salad (I chose macaroni), bread and corn bread. A gentleman, not a disinterested teenager, took my order and filled my container with the brisket, pork etc... that I ordered. He asked me what kind of BBQ sauce I wanted...mild and on the side, I responded. He swiftly pulled out a squeeze bottle and started to put the BBQ sauce on my meat. I exclaimed, " I want that ON THE SIDE, not on the meat". This wise guy's answer was "It's on the side...see it's on the side of the container". (what a sfachim) Perhaps my body language/facial expressions and gesticulations let him know my dissatisfaction as I was about to walk away. He then offered to put the BBQ sauce in a small, 2 oz container...brilliant. 3] Food: Saving the centerpiece and worst for last, I noted that the brisket and the pork were not being freshly cut or pulled. The meat was scooped out of a metal container from a warming table. The brisket was not sliced, instead it was pulled into small pieces as was the pork. A few places treat beef this way but, it's an anachronism in my book. The macaroni salad was fresh and basic. The bread was a cheap, store bought dinner roll. Corn bread was not corn bread. It was a sweet corn muffin. The muffin and bread were dreadful. Even worse, was the brisket and pork. Both were served as pulled meats which came from a warming/steam table. The texture and juiciness of the meat suffered. The lethal blow was the smoke taste of the meet. I couldn't discern smoke rings, since this was finely pulled meat, but I could note a very strong and acrid smoke taste to the meat. I expected a subtle, flavorful smooth smoked taste to the meat. This was harsh and very unpleasant. This taste endured unpleasantly for hours. So, cheap bread, plain macaroni salad, acridly smoked meat with insulting, imbecilic service...1 star for you. read more

My husband and I had dinner here on the way home from the Adirondacks. It was delicious! I had the rib dinner with two sides. The ribs were well done & appropriately smokey all the way through. The mac salad was tasty but the sweet corn was disappointing....I'm not a huge fan of boiled corn on the cob. I prefer it grilled. Oh well....more room for tasty ribs! My husband had the pulled pork sandwich dinner with salt potatoes & corn bread. The sandwich came with a huge pile of pork, I was shocked that he ate the whole thing AND both sides! This place is totally open to the elements so you can either take your meal to go or eat it there at one of their picnic tables in the yard. It was a lovely fall day, chilly in the shade but perfect in the sun so we decided to eat there. The only bummer is that they only have port-o-johns so bring some wetnaps or hand sanitizer if you are the type of person who cares about those things. read more

Stopped in today about noon place packed. I have known the owner since 1981 he was a class act then and still is. I am a BBQ judge with over 50 contest and judge Memphis in May as well. People often ask me where do you go for BBQ and the answer is only two places Bobs BBQ and I enjoy Galaway bbq find him on Facebook. Bobs chicken and ribs and pulled pork are always very good. You can't help but to love this place, its everything a BBQ should be. Certainly you won't find the best of anything here, but there is nothing like stopping off here on a hot summer day on your way to or from parts south of Syracuse. My wife and I always make this stop soaking in some sun and BBQ sauce on our way back home from visiting my family in Syracuse. Driving back to Gettysburg I 81 was closed down going south and waze sent off the highway, I saw bobs on the side of the road, I had to turn around and try it. It was early so not everything was read. Got the pulled pork Carolina style, it was moist and the spicy bbq sauce was excellent, the coleslaw on top made it even better, beans and potato salad were good as well. For a roadside glorified stand in a remote part of the area, they produce some pretty darn good barbecue! Since it's completely out of my way home I only have the pleasure to visit Bob's a couple times a year. They are a seasonal establishment, open approximately in April and close around October- closed on Mondays and Tuesdays when they are open. I'm usually not a big fan of bbq chicken but their chicken is deliciously memorable, juicy and flavorful. Ribs are okay and brisket is delectable. They rough chop the brisket. Sides are great, the coleslaw is my favorite although this last time there was a touch too much mayonnaise for my liking. Cornbread is very moist and delicious. You can take food to go or they have a nice seating area with picnic tables and sink- to wash your sticky hands and face after devouring your meal. Surprisingly, the desserts are solid. Wish they were closer to home! The service is always kind, the two younger girls that recently helped me with my order were very sweet. On par with other area BBQ titans such as Dinosaur. Each bite was better than the one before Melting in my mouth with spices that invited another taste. Most amazing barbecue. If you are within an hour of Bob's it is worth the trip. We've been two times since they opened for this season and it's still fantastic. We met the owner on both visits and he really took the service to another level. Very friendly and you can tell that he takes a lot of pride in the landscaping that they've done in the seating area. We'll definitely be coming back for more. read more

I love going to Bob's BBQ when I visit my inlaws and I'm lucky that we visited this weekend because they are closing on Sunday for the season. Tonight I got the 1/2 chicken with two sides: Mac salad and a sweet potato. Soo much food! First, the chicken. It was expertly seasoned and charred on the outside and perfectly juicy and falling off the bone on the inside. I stared with a fork and knife and realized after about 5 seconds that I had to use my hands to get all of the meat out. My fingers were quickly covered in black, charred goodness, which I happily licked off. Bobs is certainly a messy, sweatpants kind of meal. :) The Mac salad was good. I think it had celery, onion, egg? and black pepper with lots of mayo. The sweet potato was wrapped in foil and was excellent. It was so steamed it was almost mashed when I cut into the skin. All I had to do was add a little salt. So stuffed! read more

Great stop when on a family road trip. Outdoors and play area for kids. Chicken was amazing as were the ribs. Brisket was ok, but not really my taste. But I am from texas originally. Corn on the cob was sweet, local and fresh, macaroni salad was fine. The best bbq around! This is a must visit when going to SUNY Cortland. Only open seasonally. You buy your food outside from the grill....then collect your plastic utensils and paper towels and pick a picnic bench to eat at anywhere on their very pretty property. Ribs, chicken, brisket, beans, sweet potatoes. Only thing missing is corn bread-they offer white warned rolls. No drinks or soft drinks allowed to carry on premises, but no one watches if you bring your own refreshments to the picnic bench. Really good BBQ read more

I really like what Bob has done. I remember him as a young man, hawking chickens on the side of the highway out of his pick up truck in Homer. We loved that, 30-35 years ago. Three bucks for a half, for 90 cents more he threw in a baked potato. We had that deal almost every week. Now it's a much bigger operation and the food is still great. I would venture to say that - accounting for inflation - it costs no more now than way back then, maybe less. The chicken is as great as ever and now you can get lots of other stuff too. Bob? The best chicken dinner with a lot of choices for a side. The employees are always friendly. My puppies also love the chicken too.

Never would have known it was there without locals letting us know of this place. Ribs were costly but more that generous portion. Baked beans were made very well and the corn was fresh. Others in my party enjoyed the brisket, the chicken, the macaroni salad, the potato salad, and the coconut cream pie and it was all amazing. I would recommend sharing a plate. Only downfall for me at this place is that the employees don't take well to explaining much to you, feel rushed and very uninformed when making decisions. read more

HUGE servings of excellent falling-off-the-bone tender juicy ribs at reasonable prices. Whatever size you order, you'll get more than you expect. I get the ribs and my wife gets the pulled pork and we're always happy with them and we always get two meals out of our single orders. I get three meals if I get a full rack of ribs, just one if I order the small rib dinner. The "small" rib dinner will fill up all but the heartiest eaters. Sides are also big portions and generally good although not anything special. Drinks are soda-in-a-can. Plenty of parking, partly on a gravel lot, some on the grass. It's a "down-home" kind of place. Plastic utensils and food comes in Styrofoam servers. My wife and I go there a few times every summer. They have nice outdoor seating and a little play area for kids. Sometimes we use that, sometimes we take it up to Dwyer Park in Little York which is just a hop skip and a jump up the road and sometimes we take it home. Service is stand in line then take your food to an outdoor table (no indoor area, but there are covered areas) or take it home and servers seem to have some trouble remembering what you've ordered so take care with that. read more

Although I live 40 miles away in N. Syracuse I try and hit Bob's as often as I can. Been to most all the BBQ places in CNY and Bob's IMHO tops them all. Only problems I've had was they serve their brisket Carolina style(pulled) rather than Texas style (sliced) and they close down for the winter. I'm already going through withdrawl. LOL They use St Louis stryle ribs rather than baby backs and again IMHO much better. Lots more meat per rib. Better half has sampled most of the menu and has yet to get a bad meal. After sampling a few I always come back to the ribs. For the folks that end up with sauce up to your elbows and all over your face there is a sink along the back side. right near the trash and recycling. I also stick to the beans and Mac salad, but again the better half hasn't complained about any of the sides and that's a miracle. LOL read more

So sad! When we lived in Syracuse, we would always make time to go to Bob's. It was the absolute best. We have not been here in a couple of years, and oh, how things have changed. We ordered almost $70 worth of food, are about $8 worth and threw the rest out. We ordered ribs and pulled pork. He the ribs were very tough and chewy, the other half were bbq'd well, however, what killed it was the sauce. It was awful. Way too tomatoey/sour. The pulled pork would have been ok, but again, the sauce ruined it. The sides were 50/50 as well. The salt potatoes were fine, but the potato salad was awful - filled with under cooked potatoes and rubbery eggs... Ick. I don't know why they changed things, but I would not bother going back. It is not worth the money or the 45 minute drive from Suracuae. read more

I've certainly had more moist, flavorful BBQ in upstate, but if you are in this area, want to sit at a picnic table surrounded by nice landscaping- this is your place. Salt potatoes and corn were not covered in butter, so a plus for low calorie options. Half chicken was dry and not very seasoned. Pulled pork required lots of added sauce. Cornbread muffins are in a plastic container with tongs, where handle of tongs rests on food you get served to you by the same person who handles the dirty money at the cash register. Great roadside bbq! Don't go looking for fancy dining. There's not a wall to be found, but you won't miss them. While I wasn't a huge fan of the brisket (all I could taste was smoke), the chicken and the ribs were outstanding. Haven't had Bob's in a long time, stopped in there last week end on way home from vacation. I had ribs and Chicken combo with baked beans and corn on the cob. Beans where way to sweet for my likings, chicken was out of this world with flavor and juiciness, ribs on the other hand where edible but I have had better. great ambiance and friendly service but mediocre food. this place is famous for its chicken but the few times i've had it it was overcooked. that doesn't mean it was burnt, it means that it spent too much time cooking and that it falls apart when you go to pick it up. the dark meat is still good when served like this but the breast meat is dry and very hard to eat. the brisket they serve at Bob's is chopped and it has a flavor to it that i don't like but i can't quite put my finger on what it is. the ribs were actually pretty good though, if i were go to back i would just stick with those, they picked up a nice flavor from the charcoal and the sauce was pretty good too, not too sweet. as for the sides, i like the mac salad, but the coleslaw and potato salad were pretty bland. the baked means had a familiar taste to them, i could tell they were from a can but with more meat added, and possibly a few other ingredients, they were definitely one of the better sides. i've had the cornbread here before and it wasn't too bad but nothing great either. i do enjoy the dinner rolls they have, and i had a decent slice of key lime pie here before too. if you're a local, this place is ok, but if you're a traveler looking for great BBQ you should keep going north until you get to Syracuse. read more

I came across Bob's BBQ and decided to take the family. I ordered the chicken with two sides and a pork plate. The young boy that helped me was very nice and did my order which looked delicious. I get to the cash register and they try to charge me 15 dollars for just a plate of pork that is on the menu for 7.75. They had the audacity to make me stand there for 10 minutes and argue with me while they talked to EVERYONE that worked there like a pow wow to try and figure out the problem. They didn't even know their own menu or prices and tried to blame the young kid. After waiting they opened my meal and poured more than half of it in the garbage. They were so rude to my family and their own employees!!The chicken was beyond salty, and very dry. Their BBQ sauce is just a mixture of sauce and hot sauce. The pork plate was measly and I was not satisfied at all. The only thing that I liked was the macaroni salad. I am very disappointed for them being a local business and treating us so poorly. read more

Been by this place many times, always lots of people there. Made a special trip to visit and sample BBQ. Ordered the Carolina brisket dinner with two ribs, mac salad and beans, $19.95. Total disappointment. Brisket, while tender, was bland and relatively flavorless. No hint of smoke, (remember billed as "Carolina Brisket) I've been to Carolina and that ain't how they make it down thar. Ribs were tender but tasted as though they had all their flavor boiled out of them and thrown on the grill to char em up a little. Mac salad was basically elbow macaroni with mayo. Overcooked macaroni, mushy. Beans were ok if you like Bush's baked beans. GF had pulled pork. again, no smoke, totally unremarkable. Their outdoor area is fantastic. Too bad the food sucks. I finally made it to Bob's. I wish I had waited longer. The food here is expensive for what you get. The pulled pork is not pulled fresh, it's leftovers in a heater bin. It is very dry and flavorless. I had spicy sauce and it was the worst sauce I have every tasted. I think the sauce is ketchup and red wine vinegar, it had a "bad salad" taste to it. The roll it was served on was one of those cheapo burger buns that come in a large pack at the discount club for $1.99. Stale too as it was sitting out in the air. Sides scored 50%. The potato salad wasn't bad but it was a bit mushy. The corn on the cob had a rotted butt end and the tip had a large black rotten spot as well. The corn tasted real nasty and I could taste it for a few hours after. Just some nasty field corn I suspect, from a cow farmer. The can of diet pepsi for $1.75 was the hit of the meal. Portions of pork were very small, went home and had a bite to eat. You sit outside in a very nice garden/lawn area. They use a portacrapper for a restroom and the bees were an unwanted continuous pest. I did see someone else get the chicken. It was black black black and when they ate it it looked like it put up a good fight. It surely didn't look appealing. My put: if you have to go here, get the pepsi, it's the best buy and it tastes right. BTW, they have a sign up saying that you can't bring in your own food and drinks, must be people like their own food and drink more? read more
