I'm not a big fan of chain restaurants - alright I can take it, I'm a bit of a snob - but we tried this restaurant for breakfast last Friday and I was surprised at how good it was. We had the "Sunrise special" and my husband and son had scrambled eggs and I had sunny side up "over easy." Now usually most restaurants will either make the eggs so rubbery they're tasteless - or so runny I want to run too! This time they were perfect - and we tried it again on Saturday morning and it was equally good. The place is clean, the wait staff is friendly, the price is reasonable and the food IS GOOD. My first experience with a Bob Evans so I will go easy. I am not a huge fan of chain restaurants. This one had a down home feel despite being in New Jersey. I was heading south on the Turnpike when monsoon hit! Got into the Bob Evans just in time! Food was OK. Service could have been better. I can tell they really take care of their regulars in there. Shaun was also my servicer and was attentive up to a point. Once my food arrived I was on my own. During a recent stay, we visited Bob Evans for dinner. We loved it! The food was terrific and the people were nice. The manager even came by twice to play with our son! We enjoyed our visit so much that we decided to try breakfast the next morning. Even better than dinner! I like that the restaurant was clean and bright, with lots of light. Very friendly. We were also pleased that they offered free kids meal with adult purchase for the month of August. In our two visits, it saved us $10, so no complaint there. It was a nice touch. read more

Tonight was my second visit to Bob Evans. The first visit was on a Sunday morning and the place was packed. The wait wasn't too bad and the food was pretty good so tonight my friend and I figured we would try it again for dinner. We got there shortly before 6pm and there were only 3 other tables with customers. Not a great sign, but maybe we were early; it turns out we were. My friend ordered a western omelette and I was still deciding, do I quickly chose the fried chicken breast meal, asked for a salad and Mike, our friendly waiter, suggested the $9.99 meal with 2 chicken breasts, the salad includes and the free dessert! Wow, excellent customer service! The salad was a decent size. Ok, the dressing came in a packet, but I got to chose how much to put on the salad; and there were two packets if I wanted a lot... My friends omelette and pancakes were done nicely and she said they were tasty. My chicken breast was a flat breaded breast piece, not quite what I expected, but they were cooked perfectly -- Tender and juicy. The French fries were so good I had to stop myself from eating them just to try the chicken! The service was great, the food done nicely. At $24 for 2 this was a great meal. read more

First off the food isn't as good as Perkins or IHOP. And I don't even think they are great. The portions weren't even as big. I tried this place for the first time this past Sunday. Our party of two waited 20 mins which was good for an after church crowd. But once we were seated it just went down hill. We sat there for 10 mins just waiting for our drink orders to be taken. We waited 34 mins for our food. With our waitress popping by here and there apologizing and making excuses for the wait. There was food sitting at the window going out on time everyone was being served but us. People were eating and leaving and we didn't get our order. I'll give 2 stars because I liked the food, but the food isn't worth putting up with terrible service. There was a short wait to be seated, even though there were open tables. I hadn't checked the entire menu when the server came to take drink orders. I asked what kind of fruit juice I could get. He said "fruit punch.'" I ordered lemonade, then saw the juice choices listed on the menu. The server was also hard to understand; speaking too fast and not enunciating. There was a long wait for the food. Finally it came. No complaints there. I enjoyed my pancakes. It took forever to get the check. I wasn't sure I wanted to wait for a take-home box, but took a chance. i ordered one meal (the everything breakfast) AS IS and an orange juice on doordash. the orange juice was put in a to go coffee cup and half of it was gone by the time it was delivered (not sure if the driver spilled it... but, regardless, why would they put a drink for a delivery order in a cup with a hole in the top?). my meal was supposed to come with hollandaise sauce on it (mainly why i ordered it) and it didn't. i don't really see how hard it is to make an order as it comes on your menu? instead of the hollandaise sauce on the hash browns it was substituted with what looked like a pound of grease. this is the first and last time i'll be ordering from here. read more

We ordered Beef Veggie Soup (it sure wasn't Campbell ) , had nice sized chucks of beef and well seasoned soup. Chicken Wildfire Salad w/ grilled chicken was very tasty but chicken was a little to dry for my personal preference. Ordered hot cakes w/ Sunrise breakfast. It were absolutely stupendous (it may put I.H.O.P. out of biz if their customers only knew who actually deserves the title of House of Pancakes). We were on vacation and thought Bob Evans would be a perfect place for a family dinner based on eating at other locations...Wrong! The service was horrible if you can even term what minimal attention we received as service. It took twenty minutes for someone to take our order, the food took forever and some was forgotten. Other tables actually got up and left. The best employee was the hostess who served most tables food and served the drinks and answered most complaints. The manager was useless. Really....first off, as soon as I enter i am oogled by every one there. it's like they have never seen a man who became a woman, who changed their mind, became a man again, woman again, man once more, then finally setting back on woman. Womanhood is magical. Anyway, the waitress was a total bitch and didn't even look my husband in the face when he was ordering. i demanded extra butter for my pancakes and they put it right on the stack. HELLO?? I got up to piss and the place looked like a gas station bathroom or a set for one of the Saw movies. I would have easily cut off my leg to get a key or whatever the fuck that movie did to get out of that place. all the floors were sticky - i would be terrified to take a black light in there. I believe that seedy motels for $39 / night in wildwood, NJ are cleaner than these, and i got poison ivy on my cock once in one of those (i was a man then) The manager overheard me talking about how the fireball shots were watered down and came right over to ask if there was anything he could do. As i spoke to him, i had my husband get behind the bar and steal every single bottle from the bar. I really appreciated my visit at Bob Evans tonight on Veterans Day. The Hostess was great. The Waiter was wonderful and sweet. The manager was on top of everything but very kind and gentle. He checked in with each table, being sure they were not waiting to long. It was very busy. My husband, the veteran really enjoyed his meal. My food was fresh and tasty. I was there yesterday for breakfast and the waitress got my entire order wrong, she did not write down what I was ordering and try to do it from memory, and every single item on my plate was incorrect. She also never bothered to check in with me and see how my meal was. I spoke to the manager as well and he was completely apathetic, he did not do anything at all, nor did he tell me that he planned to address it. Does anyone tip to-go food? The first time I went there I left a two-dollar tip for to-go food and they did my order right, and I was satisfied. The second time I didn't tip for to-go food, cuz sometimes I don't tip to-go food and I usually tip guys less. I had the short cool-looking black guy w/ the rad haircut. That time, they replaced the crepe for pancakes, and hashbrowns for a fruit cup. I'm not sure if you need to tip a to-go order but next time I'll tip a to-go order. read more

The way I can describe the food at Bob Evans is --- just okay. I got my food to go and ordered their meatloaf which came on top of bread and mashed potatoes and smoldered in gravy. They have a three course meal for around $9 and you get your choice of soup or salad and dessert with your entrée. I got a salad with ranch dressing and a berry shortcake with my meal. For a shared appetizer, we ordered fried cheese bites. Nothing too special about these - they literally are just fried bites of cheese. The meatloaf that I ordered was okay, it didn't taste particularly homemade but it also didn't taste overly manufactured and stale. I'm a sucker for gravy, so I'm glad they were pretty generous with that. The shortcake was also okay. I was expecting plain shortcake with berries and whipped cream on top, but they made it with berry shortcake with whipped cream and more berries on top. The cake tasted good, but I probably wouldn't order this dessert again because the berry flavor was really overpowering. We added biscuits to the order and these were really good. They also tasted great the next day as an impromptu breakfast. Also got their chocolate chip cookies - the calorie count for the cookies is insane, but the cookie itself is a nice treat for the end of your meal. The total for dinner for 8 came to around $80, which isn't bad at all considering we added a few things like the cookies, biscuit, and an appetizer. The food came out at a good time, we went there about a half hour after we placed the order online and we only had to wait around 5 minutes upon arrival because they were working on getting our biscuits.
