I love that you can really customize your order here. I enjoy sweet and savory for breakfast/ brunch but I hate that you usually have to choose between the two but I was able to get a savory dish (the Jersey skilled) with just a side of sweet which was great. Saturday morning and the restaurant was swamped. The lobby was standing room only as the host and hostess told every person the wait would be 15 - 20 minutes. The wait was more like 35 minutes but that should have been obvious from the waiting crowd. Happily, my crew was pleased with our food. My patty melt was delicious and juicy, served on sourdough as requested instead of rye. My daughter loved her breakfast burger. There were only 2 disappointments. Been meaning to check this place out. We have stopped a couple times in the past but the wait has just been too long. This past Sunday we went and the wait was about 20 minutes so we put in our names. We were sat before that. We got a booth right by the window which was nice. Our server stopped by instantly with our menus. We pretty much knew what we were going to get. I ordered the pumpkin pancakes because 'tis the season and my boyfriend got the West Coast Avocado Benedict with home fries. My boyfriend got a hot chocolate. It was made with water but pretty decent. Our food came out fairly quickly. My pancakes were very good. Good balance of pumpkin and spice. I thought the little container it came with was icing but it was just a very sweet butter, very good. My boyfriend got his benedict, and it was Luke warm. I told him to say something but he said it was good. It was good but it would have been better hot. You get great size portions and everything was very good. Once we received our food we didn't see our server until she brought over the check. I need to know the recipe for their pancakes here. They're always so fluffy, full of whatever ingredient you ask for: blueberry or chocolate chip and perfectly buttery. I crave these at least once a month. Love that their big menu has something for everyone. I've gotten a blt for breakfast once and the tomato was so juicy and was a perfect sandwich with psoriasis fries (IYKYK)! Def our family's go to spot for breakfast. We've been going here since it was Perkins. The manager owner of Stacks is fantastic he does everything the staff does, I wouldn't be surprised if he actually did dishes when necessary. They try their best to get you in and out in a timely manner. That being said, the food is plentiful, delicious and priced fairly. The staff seems to never change which tells me the employees are happy with their jobs. Stacks gives you big bang for you dollars. The food is delicious. I had the chicken biscuits with withe gravy and it was amazing, I had hash browns and turkey bacon do my sides. My wife had the same but she had potatoes with peppers and onions. My uncle had the breakfast skillet and pancakes. He said that those were some of the best pancakes he has ever had. He had been there 3 times in two weeks. He said he wants to go again. Yeah I say it is good as well. I will be going there again. We stoped at Stacks because the wait of another diner was going to be ridiculous. Even though Stacks had people waiting outside, we decided to check on the weight, which was actually only 20 minutes. After the 20 minutes, we were seated promptly. The place was busy, but the staff was nothing short of phenomenal. I watched them as I waited for my food, and they were running around assisting other staff. That's the way you do it in business. Our waitress was amazing as well. It would be nice if Yelp had separate ratings for service and food. I find myself torn at times when either the food is better than the service or vice versa. Stacks was interesting, they had a large menu, it was clean, all the staff was friendly and the service was fast. I give them a 4 star rating for service. Before you read any further, let me say that I do want to visit here again and try something different. The reason being is that it is not a chain restaurant, from my visit it seems that the owner is working hard at trying to provide good food and I feel that because the service was so good and everyone was friendly, they deserve another chance. The food was "okay", I give it 3 Stars overall. My wife had the West Coast Avocado Eggs Benedict, and I had the Steak Tips and Eggs. I was impressed that included with my selection was 3 pancakes and breakfast potatoes with green peppers and fried onions. My wife's order came with a fresh fruit cup and choice of hash browns or breakfast potatoes. She chose the hash browns. The place was very crowded but fully staffed and we didn't wait long for our meals to arrive. Visually, both our orders looked very good, and I was eager to dig in. Unfortunately, the steak was very tough and not cooked to the temperature I had requested. I asked for medium, and this was closer to well. I think they are using NY Strip, which would explain the chewy/toughness. If they are using NY Strip, if they would take the time to trim the fat that runs down one side of the majority of NY Strip cuts of steak, I feel this would improve this menu selection tremendously. My potatoes were good, but my pancakes were barely warm. I wasn't in the kitchen, but I would be surprised if the pancakes are made to order based on their temperature. When pancakes are served stacked and fresh, you can almost burn your hand lifting them up to put on the butter, and they are always steaming. This order of pancakes didn't even fully melt the butter. My wife liked her order but she wasn't impressed. It was bland, lacked flavor, and it was warm, not hot. The harsh browns weren't dry, but they tasted like they had vinegar in them I actually can't wait to go back because I really feel this experience isn't what most people have at Stacks. Menu is extensive and I like that there are sections of items on the menu where a short stack of pancakes are included. So great when you're craving savory and sweet. They also have lunch and dinner items. Wait staff was friendly and efficient. We had the cinnamon roll French toast, create your own omelette (spinach and feta) and florentine Benedict. I met a friend at Stacks for breakfast today. The host quickly welcomed us and our server was polite. I questioned if they could prepare the meat portion of my meal a certain way. Our server assured me that the meat would be prepared the way I requested. When she brought my meal, she came apologizing that the meat had been prepared differently from what she had ordered or I had requested. So, I requested a different kind of meat, but she insisted on trying to correct the order. 30 minutes later after my pancakes and eggs was cold the owner comes to the table with the meat prepared the same way as the first. When I tried to tell him I did not want it, he raised his voice and asked repeatedly "what is wrong with this? What is wrong with this?" I said "I asked for it to be prepared differently." He yelled at me and said "well don't you ever order this again!" Feeling that he was being disrespectful, I responded "how dare you. Don't you lecture me." Instead of de-escalating the situation he responds "I'm not lecturing you, I just don't want you wasting my food." I then told him if they had just brought me a different kind of meat like I requested after the first, all of this could have been avoided." A minute later the server (not the owner) came with a different meat (well done) that looked like it had been sitting for a while on the side of the grill. This was to accompany my cold eggs and pancakes. By this time, I had lost my appetite and asked the server to take my meal off the bill. The owner adjusted the bill, but never came back to apologize or ask about the meal. He walked by several times and avoided me like I didn't exist. The attitude and approach of the owner was condescending and unacceptable. Especially since I am old enough to be his father. Whatever happened to the customer is always right? I can't comment on the food because I did not eat anything. However, I did give the server a 40% tip on the food that I never ate. It wasn't her fault. read more
