Today I dined at the Bob Evans in Bowie, Maryland. After being seated we waited a long time before we were served. There were apparently understaffed today. Our coffee was lukewarm and their was quite a bit shouting being done by the employees to the cook. Sourdough toast should have been served with the meal but the waitress asked the cook 4 times "where is the sourdough toast". I came when were just about finished with our me. It sounded like we were in a carry-out, not a restaurant. The most awful thing was seeing a cockroach on its back that was still alive. As I going to pay for our meal spoke to manager to share my dissatisfaction with the food and service. I asked to him walk with me so that I could show him the cockroach. I didn't want to make a scene. Instead of the manager killing the roach immediately, he walked me back to the register so that could pay for my meals. He did give me a consideration and only changed me for one of the meals and I appreciate that but, I have serious concerns about their food handling practices and what appears to be a cockroach infestation. What really impressed me was the kids menu's several hearty options, not just the usual grilled cheese and tenders. My child had a plate that could've come straight from a Thanksgiving table- turkey with cranberry sauce, carrots, and mashed potatoes with gravy. I myself got the Pick 2 combo with half Cranberry Pecan Chicken Salad and half Double Cheese Pot Roast Dip. It even came with delicious slices of soft homemade banana bread. Here we go again! Unfortunately a 2 star now because the service has gone completely down. The bathrooms are nasty and not attended to. The food today made me nauseous. The server took ten minutes before coming to my table. The food wasn't hot or fresh specifically the Cinnabiscuits, 3rd ordering those and all times weren't good. The so called manager black lady with red hair is extremely unsanitary, she was dancing where the food is being prepared, then she went where the cooks are and proceeded to cook food. There were no food left at the buffet at our hotel, so we decided to come here. We were a large group, so we waited for 35-40 mins for a table. After we sat down, our server came to get our orders. The service was prompt. And we didn't we very long time for our dishes. I got the steakhouse burger, burger, bacon, mushrooms, cheese and special sauce and also the pot roast. I asked my burger to be cooked medium. When i was served the meat was kinda dry. I think it was previously cooked and they served it to me after. Not crazy for it. Also, the pot roast came with mashed potatoes. Beef wasn't tender, it was a little tough. Also the mashed potatoes didn't have the creaminess, and no flavor. Our server was great, the manager was walking every table to check on customers. The food was just ok, not that great as it looks on the pictures. We only had eggs and biscuits, which were served hot and tasted delicious. The only bad thing was the coffee wasn't hot enough. The servers were very friendly, polite and attentive. What a wonderful and refreshing experience @ this location. Food was truly excellent and the service and the kindness that was extended to us was truly on par if not higher. We were fortunate to have "William" as our waiter; he was very kind and caring and made the visit that much better. We were both very comfortable and left feeling great. Food was 2 thumbs up. Manager on sight was extremely attentive and frequently checked up on us. Cashier, "Diamond" was very polite and kind. Truly an A+ experience. I was going to an interview and didn't want to get to far from the Hilton. I ran to Yelp but didn't see much in this area in the way of small business. So I settled on the closest. It was ok. Waiter was nice. Food tasted about as good as I expected. Not Denny's gross but not Perkins good. I don't really like Perkins either. When you're a chain like this 3 stars is your max not 5. This was my first time trying Bob Evans after seeing its products in the fridge at my job at my local supermarket. The place looked nice on the inside; very clean and a modern looking place. Our waiter was also very nice and respectful. However, here is my breakdown on the food: Main Picture: I ordered the Whole Hog (without the sausage and Pattie's, and asked for shredded hash browns rather than the whole fries), so here's how it went down: - The Ham was too hard, to the point that I almost couldn't take a bite and was afraid I would break my teeth - The hash browns were decent, but I would have liked it to be cooked a little more well done and crispy, not soggy, as mine were a little soggy - The eggs were cooked PERFECTLY, just your normal round of over easy eggs - The bacon was also cooked right on the money, it was the thing I liked most out of the entire meal - The pancakes were very sweet, with chocolate chips inside (tho there are more options with the way you want to have your pancakes); however, it came with French toast, and I didn't really like the French toast as much as I would have thought. In all, some things were better than others at Bob Evans, but I would come back and try something there for dinner one night. If I were to get another breakfast there, then I would get everything except for the ham and French toast, (and make sure the hash browns are a little more well done). Do not be fooled by Bob Evans being a chain or the location sandwiched next to a Walmart...this is a very well-managed restaurant with attentive, friendly servers and really dependable breakfast items and good coffee. As I honor the memory of my husband, this is my review. We've visited this location several times and always enjoyed it. Today, as I stood in line, counter staff must have been discussing the hostess who was not on her post. They said "she just clocked out and left"? Neither of them attempted to seat me, so I seated myself. I chose a table and sat. When the server came, who by the way was awesome, he asked if someone else already took my order. I explained my situation and he offered an apology and got me a menu. He was great. He was very helpful with my order. But when the meal came, the plate looked less than appetizing. It looked like some other food was scraped off the plate. But the food was as good as it always was. Visited here this am. Nice and clean restaurant. Friendly staff. I like walking into restaurant and see baked goods upfront. OMG, the cookies were huge. I had breakfast here this visit. An omelet with cheese and bacon, home fries, and wheat toast. The omelet was excellent. Lite and fluffy. The home fries, half of which were under cooked. The decaf coffee was great. My biggest complaint is that there is construction going on, on 2-sides of the restaurant parking lot. There are no signs from the street view telling you how to get to the restaurant. I spent 20 minutes in NJ traffic (because in NJ, you can't make LT turns) to get back to a point where I could attempt a second time to find the entrance. If you can navigate the traffic and construction, will get a worthwhile meal. read more

Hands down the best place for breakfast in the area. From the service, ambience and quality of the food, it never disappoints. The coffee is good and stays hot. Very clean dining area and floors;, plenty of parking. The biggest and most tender biscuits around and loads of luscious sausage in perfect gravy - total heaven! Also worth mentioning they provide real whipped butter and hearty substantial slices of bacon unlike similar spots in the area. Was here for a late breakfast so lunch was also being served, and from what I could see, it looked very good. My only criticism is that I wish my portion of hash browns was bigger - they were great! The chicken salad was horrible, no pecans on top; looked like one strawberry sliced ( way overripe), on the cantaloupe could not have been sliced any thinner. This was takeout and returned. As far as road trip breakfast options go, few places compare to Bob Evans. I must have been to this particular Bob Evans location at least 20 times. The food is always fresh, the service is always friendly and the place is always clean. For those of you on the West Coast who are not familiar with Bob Evans, let me introduce you. Bob Evans is a couple of steps above Denny's and Waffle House, a step above Marie Callender's and on par with Cracker Barrel. In fact, in my twisted pancake-and-syrup dreams, I like to imagine that Bob Evans is married to Marie Callender, because they're kind of similar in many ways. Denny's could be their son, and they could all live in a Waffle House down the street . . . Are you still reading, or have I lost you completely? Bob Evans markets simple, down-to-earth country fresh food. I recommend Bob Evans for breakfast. I tried it for lunch once, and I wasn't impressed. Eggs, bacon and pancakes are kind of difficult to mess up. I always opt for Farmer's Choice breakfast, which includes 2 pancakes, 3 strips of bacon, 2 eggs and some home fries for only $8.59 (prices and participation may vary). Add a cup of weak coffee, and you're looking at $10 + tip. It's fast, easy, convenient and, most importantly, fresh. Bob Evans' pancakes are very good, but their specialty is biscuits 'n' gravy. 2 biscuits and a bowl of rich, creamy gravy is a great unhealthy way to complement your great unhealthy meal. Strongly recommended. It's a chain, so the decor is consistent across all Bob Evans locations (and I'm not ashamed to say I've visited many of them from Indiana to Maryland and from Michigan to Florida). The decor is that of a mass-produced generic country house with light wood accents, rusty cans, Mason jars and checkered curtains. It doesn't make you feel at home, but it does make you feel welcome. When I embark on a road trip, I always plan to have breakfast at a Bob Evans or a Cracker Barrel. They offer way better options and way better service than most other roadside establishments. read more

The pot roast dinner I had tasted good. However it consisted of shredded beef--no chunks! I ordered three slices of different pies to go. Whoever packaged the pie slices should be fired as when I got home---and opened the containers--the pie slices were in a sloppy mess.
