We were passing through Delaware and needed to grab something to eat. We've dined at Bob Evans in Virginia, so we were familiar with this chain of restaurants. Since our experience at another location was positive, we decided to stop by for lunch. When we walked inside, we were greeted by a friendly host. She seated us right away and we began to browse the menu. We knew what we wanted to order, so we sat patiently waiting for someone to acknowledge two hungry customers. One waitress tended to the customers seated at the booths on the left side of the restaurant. She had her back turned toward us the whole time. We began looking around to see if anyone else was available. We couldn't get any eye contact from her, so we knew that she wasn't going to take her order. 10 minutes went by and we were still staring at all of the employees who weren't coming our way. The restaurant was not busy and had plenty of open tables, so we became frustrated. I finally got up and asked to see if someone could take our order. They finally sent someone over to our table. He was a friendly young guy and service was great. However, no one should have to walk through a restaurant that had very few customers and ask to have someone take their order. When we went to pay the bill, the same waitress who wouldn't acknowledge us rang us up. She took the bill, asked if we wanted a receipt. That's all that she said. This lady did not want to speak to us at all. So basically, I cannot recommend Bob Evans in Delaware to any of my friends or family. The food was ok, for anyone that was wondering.... read more

Waitress was a disaster waiting to happen, she had an attitude from the time she waited on us, food came out which was lukewarm warm, bread missing from 2 of the orders said biscuits were in the oven, customers who came in and ordered after us received their baked goods, coffee wasn't refilled when asked for refill was given a half cup, had to ask for a full cup. Not sure if she was new or just didn't care, if I go back I will refuse her if she's our waitress. Food was only mediocre, wife said potatoes had a different taste to them..hmmm read more

Would not recommend. Dined in with friends for thanksgiving and the service was the worst I've see . The servers were not present and unaware. Terrible experience! My comments in no way reflect our server. We were seated quickly as there were no folks in front of us. Quickly received our drinks and our order was taken. And then we waited. And waited. And waited. We were there late morning so there were maybe 5 other tables seated. One hour later we received our food. I was only able to eat one of my pancakes. The others were so over cooked they couldn't be saved. The sausage patties were like shoe leather. I took one bite and decided they were inedible. And the hash browns were beyond salvation. We complained and the server offered to have our food remade. ( And wait another hour? No thanks) My meal was comped which was appreciated but I actually came here to eat. I did speak to the manager. She informed me they only had one cook ( and apparently not a star cook at that). I said I wish we had been informed at the hostess stand to expect a delay, we would have left then. After a complete disaster across the street at the Waffle House I notice the Bob Evans... across the street...still starving gave it a try... At first was a little concerned when I walked in there were 8 that's right 8 employees behind the counter but still went unnoticed for a few minutes‍ Anyway got sat, my wife had eggs biscuits and bacon she was very pleased I had the special 5 piece black pepper maple honey topped bacon (crispy) and a short stack When it arrived I received your typical 3 slice side order of bacon... when I asked about the special bacon I ordered was told oh we don't really make that... ok!! I just arrived home after a very very very disappointing breakfast at the Bob Evan's restaurant in Middletown, DE. Today is June 14, 2023. Bad news first: My date invited me to breakfast. I selected Bob Evans, because we've had 2 good meals previously. I like to order steak and eggs. I order the steak rare. Today my steak was not rare. It was not medium rare. It was a dry well done. I kindly asked for another one. I waited for an extremely long time where my other food got cold. Finally when my steak arrived, it was exactly the same. Dry. Brown. So now my food is really cold from waiting. The waitress told us the manager would speak to the cooks and then come to our table. I wish I had thought to take pictures of each steak. I regret that evidence. The manager declined to come to our table. She did not introduce herself. I asked her name. She said her name was MaryJo. I was not angry. I only wanted to show the manager my 2 previous steaks that were still sitting there. The manager came over finally. I showed her the 2 steaks. I mean... dry and dark brown. Let's remember I've been to this restaurant 2 previous times and ordered the steak and eggs each previous time and loved it. That's what I ordered it again. The manager looked at it and said, "It's kinda rare." Wow. First of all, there is no such thing as "kinda" rare. But this was completely dark brown and dry. I was appalled that she was reluctant to come to our table (probably because she and the cooks did not want to admit it.) I was so appalled. I had hoped to be a future regular customer as the last 2 times Bob Evans blew away our Metro Diner and our 2 other nearby diners. I have now been sitting there for 45 minutes with no food eaten as I was waiting for the steak to dip into my egg. Cold eggs are disgusting. The manager said she would "comp" my meal. COMP MY MEAL?????? My meal is NOT COMPLIMENTARY IF I DID NOT EAT ANY! And I did not want a free meal. I have money to pay. I wanted to eat breakfast with my date. What a terrible date. My only previous experience with Bob Evans was on a long trip from NJ to Chicago 20-some years ago. They were everywhere, they were cheap, and I thought the food was abysmal (my lack of funds kept me eating there though). Twenty-some years later, my elderly father lives in the Middletown area, and he likes to eat here. And either the chain has gotten better, my taste in food has gotten worse, or this particular location is an exception to the general rule. Bottom line--- I like it. They refill the coffee, and I always get the large breakfast (there's a special name for it, but the name escapes me at the moment). Pancakes, scrambled eggs, home fries, bacon, and I add a side of grits. After that expansive repast, I don't need to eat all day. And my father enjoys it. Is it gourmet food? Is it a place you should travel an hour to get to? No and no. But the price is right, the waitresses are efficient and friendly, and the food hits the spot. But if you go on a Sunday morning, like I did recently, be prepared to wait a long time for a table. read more

Well let me tell you, the waitress was clueless, we ordered a all white egg omelet with spinach and chicken links, she came with regular egg omelet, when we said it was white eggs, she said " oh right my bad" mind you that she wrote this down. I ordered pancakes, bacon, but the bacon was on a separate dish?? I hate to complain because I think I would get the Karen special, my husband asked her 3 times for napkins, she bought them at the end when we were about to leave. I've been to this location a couple of times over the years. There was maybe a 15-20 wait yesterday morning but we expected that. Loved the Mexican omelet, hash browns and biscuit that I got - my husband, on the other hand, wasn't very impressed with the "Classic" breakfast that he ordered (two eggs, pancakes and a meat) because it was rather boring, but really, what do you expect from basic breakfast items like that? This is one of those chains with pre-made frozen food, which is inexpertly heated up by the staff. The staff here seems to change week by week. Or did, because I don't know if that is still the case as I stopped coming here. It was because of the Egg Incident. I ordered oatmeal and a hard boiled egg for a light breakfast. The egg showed up, having BEEN MICROWAVED. (I mean it was a boiled egg subsequently put into a microwave because whoever dished it up thought the egg shouldn't be ice-cold from the fridge.) Now admittedly, most people in Delaware have not studied physics (I did) but average cooks know what you can and CANNOT put into the microwave. I should have known better when I saw the egg was warm and toasted in random spots, indicating MICROWAVE! WARNING! but I couldn't resist poking a fork into the warmed egg. KABLOOIE! It was ALL over. (The superheated fat of the yolk creates a pocket of steam contained by the cooked white. If you puncture this capsule, it releases a lot of steam and pressure and you get an exploding egg. Don't show this fact to your kids. Burns and a mean cleaning job can result.) Sometimes the food is cold (I mean, really, all they have to do is 'wave it. It's prepacked frozen food.) I really wanted to like this place. Being from a northern area, I had not been to a Bob Evans before nor really knew what it was. I hoped for better. I'm giving it 3 stars based on the caramel mocha coffee alone. If it wasn't for that cup of deliciousness (half coffee, half hot chocolate, and caramel drizzle), I don't think it would have passed to the 3-star mark. Our waitress was very friendly and as efficient as possible during a busy Sunday lunch hour. The service was slow but I expected slowness because of the busyness and because of the general speed of southerners (no offense). I ordered two eggs over-easy with hash browns and sausage. The eggs were watery and flavorless. The sausage and hash browns were decent, and the two buttery biscuits that came with the dish were very good. Yelper Ben Y. got a side of macaroni and cheese that was served cold and fried onion skins (or something along those lines) that just straight-up didn't look appetizing. Our experience was quite frustrating. The waiters and waitresses were the nicest people ever, but the food was not. We were sadly in a hurry and had to wait more than a solid half hour. The "chefs" in the back forgot about our order, and proceeded to sloppily piece it together. Something has changed for the better! I know it's a chain restaurant and I've been here before. But my last Bob Evans stop on the road was awful. This one is great. Friendly staff - good breakfast food (although some strange very caloric concoctions on the menu). You may think it's hard to screw up two eggs over medium with grits - but I've been to quite a few diners that never get it right. First of all - as southerners know - grits shouldn't HAVE to be eaten with a spoon. You can use a spoon, but they should stand up to a fork as well. So well done on the grits B-E! Perfect. We were just in there today, were seated within a minute or so of walking in, sat at our table for 15 minutes with no one coming over to take a drink order or say anything to us. We were very disappointed and had to walk out, even on our way out, not a single word was said to us. It was 2:30 in the afternoon with plenty of staff and about 6 tables, which the largest was in the process of being cashed out and leaving. We just got back from this establishment, and I still give them 4 out of 5 stars. This time the food and service was excellent. My only problem on this visit was the Hostess, (Samantha). She had a little bit of an attitude. When we got there, there was about 10-12 people waiting to be seated. I told her (Rose, party of 2). And she said it would be a little while as she had to seat the other guests. Then I said are there any other (parties of 2)? She said no. I asked if we could be seated at the (table for 2) right there next to her station. Then she looked at me and said "Ok, I'll seat. Here you go" with a little attitude. I am a big Bob Evans fan. I love their breakfasts and biscuits. That being said, the Middletown location is abysmal. The service is terrible and often the food is not up to par for what I'd expect. It seems to be a theme in Middletown- bad service and bad food, but people still pack the places full. Waited what felt like an eternity for our drinks and even longer for our refills. Once we ordered our food we waited about 20 minutes for them to return with it. Although they did not return with everything. They informed us only after waiting 40 minutes for our food that they were out of soup and chicken salad. This is the third time, and it's always the same. Not crowded early in the morn, but it takes 45 minutes to get your cold food. The manager wanders around apologizing for taking so long. You say the food is also cold, and she gives a lame excuse about cold syrup on the French toast. Not sure why the potatoes, eggs and bacon are also cold. We give up. What a strange place. I stopped here with friends on our way from Annapolis to Philly. It was about 4 in the afternoon and we hadn't eaten all day, and this seemed like a good idea. The place was clean and we were seated promptly and the menu was huge and cheap. But the waitress was so effing weird. Every time she came to the table she was so so weird. She seemed like a nervous wreck, quivering as she passed drinks and cups of salad dressing across the table. She told us she didn't know how to make iced coffee. She asked where we were from, and we said"Philadelphia". She said "What part of Pennsylvania?" and again we said "Philadelphia". I felt bad for her when I saw her making a salad for one of my friends - the servers have to make the food too? Our food came out really fast, and with the exception of a really questionable sausage gravy, was totally fine and just what you would expect from a chain breakfast place like this.
