My first trip to a Bob Evans restaurant! I only know Bob Evans from frozen breakfast sandwiches and breakfast sausage at the grocery store. There were a surprising amount of options on the menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! I was even surprised to see a few Veggie options, which could be ordered without eggs and cheese if you'd like. I ordered the Avocado Protein Breakfast Bowl, which came with a side of fruit and Banana Bread. I loved the cilantro lime cream sauce and the sweet potatoes which made the dish very hardy! The banana bread was also very moist and delicious! I was torn between the fresh fruit oatmeal and this dish, but I'm glad I ordered what I did! read more

The food was lousy. My sausage patties were overcooked and very tough to cut with a knife! The chicken sandwich was okay but very messy. We came in around 2 pm on a weekday and had to wait for the hostess to find a table for us, which was surprising because it wasn't busy. Turns out most of the tables were dirty and hadn't been bussed. She had to clean off a booth for us to sit at. The table was still quite wet. The only bright spot was our server Brian! I called in a phone order, and was told it would be 20 minutes. The staff were all very friendly. I even added to my order once I got there and they were. I would definitely go back to this restaurant not only for the delicious food but the friendliness of the staff. It had a very welcoming atmosphere. The last lighting was not too bright, a warm light that doesn't hurt my eyes like some places. I had a pick up order at this bob Evans the other day and was blatantly ignored by a man that worked there, he was very rude. He was biracial, curly hair, a bit heavy set with glasses. I believe his name started with a " T " but I can't remember exactly what his name was. He noticed I needed help and kept staring at me. He was working up front. He walked towards me only to stare at me even more then walk away to do nothing but stand around while looking at me with no expression.. it made me feel very uncomfortable as I was standing by the pick up area. I was confused because he even walked to the pick up area and stood across from me and stared at me.. Twice in a week now, same issue. They put call in to go orders ahead of those standing in line to get seated. First time they were telling us that they were short staffed so our wait would be 25 min. While waiting the entire staff was working on to go orders, today there was next to no business the person working the front was taking an order to go on the phone and told us he would be right with us, stood there for 10 minutes and he was still taking orders over the phone! Stopped in for a quick breakfast. Greeted immediately and shown to a booth. Drinks came quick, as did my sausage gravy and biscuits. We ordered the fried chicken special online for pickup about an hour and half later. When we got there the order was ready. Then we got home (18 miles) and dished it out. OMG....the chicken was unedible. It was so over cooked the breast was split open and dry half way through. Should have taken a picture of it before driving another 40 min. round trip to return it. The manager tried to make it right by replacing the whole dinner and throwing in a pie along with gas money. The second dinner was as it should have been the first time. As for the pie.....it was chocolate peanut and my wife can't eat peanuts. So we will pass it along to the grandkids. So after an hour and 15 minutes we were able to sit down and eat dinner. No matter where we go to pick up food I guess we will have to inspect it before leaving the restaurant. Not hardly worth the trouble of even trying to go out to eat or go for takeout. read more

This restaurant is filthy. Restrooms didn't have tissue to dry hands with. I wonder how workers washed if they could not dry hands properly. Carpet in eating area was almost black. Tile on flooring grout was black and hasn't been cleaned in months. I have to admit the food was fairly good But I will not be going back to this restaurant because of the dirt. Normally bob evans is a good place to go to, however after sitting waiting for food for 30 min, then having it come out cold like it's sat for atleast half of that is frustrating to say the least. Not to mention one order didn't come out with the right sausage and another didn't come out with the right toast. So we asked the manager to send it back, which he did willingly, however he didn't seem like a seasoned gm because he was almost confused at the idea of sending food back. After another 20 minutes, our "remade" food came out. The eggs were cooked perfectly, however everything else was still cold. We talked to the manager again afterwards, and it seemed like he didn't know how to handle conflict very well, although he was very polite. Bob Evans is slightly above average on a good day in any of their restaurants. This one is worse. The server used no order pad at all which totally puzzled us. After he took our order I looked at my wife and said, "this is not going g to go well." I was right. The sides were all wrong on all four of our meals. Our son at one time was a line cook in two different restaurants and he prefers his steak to be medium rare. His steak came slightly less than well done. We brought it to the attention of the server who took. The Kate and returned with another one. It was slightly pink on the inside and our son just ate a little and said, "Don't bother dad (to re-order)" The manager, as they always do, did a fly-by at our table. Barely paused long enough to ask, "is everything okay?" And before we could get a word out he was gone. So at the checkout the cashier asked, "Was everything okay?" To which I replied, "No. Not at all." She looked at me like a deer in the headlights having no clue where to go from there. Finally she said,"Well. Do you want a manager?" I replied to the affirmative. He came over and three of us voiced our discontent to which he replied."well...why didn't you tell me when I stopped at your table?" My wife related our fly-by experience. No apology. He said, "I took $20.00 off of your bill, okay?" I just said, "Fine." I didn't want to be comped or discounted or anything. I just wanted him to know about our ad experience and I expected an apology or at the minimum common courtesy. When I got home, I fired off an email to their corporate. I am the type of person who loves to acknowledge excellent service and product but I also let them know when they have a restaurant that needs help with training issues, cleanliness, poor service or inept management. They sent me 4 - $5 gift coupons. Okay? And a form letter apologizing. To compound my discontent with Bob Evans I went to use my gift certificates while on a business trip in Xenia, Ohio. Obviously the "certificates must be identifiable to their staff as a compensation from their corporate for a bad experience. The management type person who rang me out asked, "so? Where did you get these?" I replied, "from an experience at a restaurant in Marion, Oh." She looked at me and said in a very snide way, "funny how no one ever uses these at the restaurant they got them from." Free food? It must cut my not the stores food costs and bottom line. With a sickening sweet sarcastic voice she said, "that's all your taken care of" and would not allow me to pay the amount over and above the $20 gift certificates. Then...and I can't believe this...as we turned to leave she said (same sickening sweet sarcastic voice)," Cone back to our restaurant again where we ALWAYS treat OUR customers just line family!" That's it I'm done with Bob. Never again. Another fine chain built on quality food and service gone to hell due to cost cutting measures, substandard wages, frequent turn over and inadequate staff training from the corporate gurus who answer to a board of directors and Wall Street alone. read more

A nice family place to go for an after school play. I went here with my family for a late night dinner. The hostess was super friendly and very attentive to our large group. I ordered the blue cheese crusted steak. This may not have been the best choice as Bob Evans is not known as a steak house. The steak tasted like a pot roast with blue cheese on top. Even though I was not a huge fan of the food itself, Bob Evans is recommended for a place to eat in Marion. Bob Evans has been a staple in our family's dining out experience for years. This was the worst experience we've ever had. To begin, we waited five minutes as the only new customers before we were greeted for a weekday lunch. The restaurant was nearly a quarter full. When ordering, we were told, on multiple items, that dishes or sides could not be made to order. My son and I both ordered the broccoli side. Both sides had brown spots showing the age of the broccoli. I ordered the steak and eggs, steak medium. As you can see in the photo, it was raw in the middle. My wife ordered her favorite: the Wildfire chicken salad. There were more tortilla strips than lettuce. I was told I could not have the sauce I wanted with my meal. The first look at the place it is very nice and clean inside and out. Me and 3 on my friends come here for lunch. To start off we got to orders of candy bacon not sure if it was supposed to be COLD but it was... still good tho. For me and my buddy's main meal got the sunshine skillet with toast. So the 1st look looks amazing and the taste is not bad at all but the bacon and a few potatoes way burnt. My one friend had a cheeseburger with bad lettuce on it but the Burger was still OK. Went on Mother's Day! What a mistake. The place was dirty, disorganized, and our server admitted that she had only worked there a couple of weeks and said she wasn't sure about the menu. The server said they had a "no call no show" and nobody realized the other person was not working until they discovered that our table, along with a few others, weren't being served! Waited about 30 minutes for food, drinks were watery, floor was so filthy all around us. Very disappointed. Will not be back to the Marion OH restaurant. Last night my husband and I chose to have dinner at Bob Evans restaurant, we chose the turkey and dressing dinner, it was the worst tasting meal that we have eaten at any restaurant. The turkey was very dry and tasted old, the only food we enjoyed was the blueberry bread and the cranberry sauce, not much for $10.99. Needless to say, we will be looking at another restaurant in the future. read more

Service and food was terrible, seated in a booth, table was dirty, menu pages were stuck together, carpet looked as hadn't been swept in awhile, ordered new biscuit bowl, served cold, never seen waitress to say something, informed staff at checkout of terrible service and food & didn't seem to care, just said ok. We stopped here today for lunch. my wife got the wildfire chicken salad it was pretty good, the chicken was a little old but she didn't complain. I had the BLT on Brioche, I wish I had ordered dish water soup. The bacon was over cooked and the bread was toasted so hard, it scratched the roof of my mouth. I complained to our waiter and he stated, "I'll tell them up there". That was the end of it, I don't know who they are and where they are up there but they apparently didn't care. The wife and I come here almost every Tuesday night after teaching in prison. We love it. The food is great, the service is quick and friendly. (Ask for Amanda: she'll take real good care of you.) Frequently the floor is messy at that time of day, but otherwise it'd be tough to ask for a better dining experience at the Bob Evans level. I saw all the bad reviews and obviously know one takes into consideration that Bod Evans is a very busy place. Yes it is slow but only because they have a lot of business there. Bob Evans is one of the greatest comfort food places there is in my opinion. I know opinions are not validated facts but Bob Evans reeled in a number of over 40,000 employees. The staff is very great and the managers are very busy. If you think about it, Bob Evans had grown from a truck stop in Rio Grande, Ohio to a WORLDWIDE food chain. The food there is delicious and yes, sometimes the staff(waitress/waiters and cooks) make mistakes but did it come to mind that the day you came in is the day they first started working there? No. You didn't. The one thing that I can say is bad is that, yes the place does look as if it should be.. relatively cleaned everyday. That is one thing that I can agree on. Okay enough with the ranting. Bob Evans is my go-to restaurant for when me and my grandmother want something more homely. The atmosphere in the Marion, Ohio Bob Evans is great and all of the staff greets us with a smile and a wonderful attitude. They cook our food to order and they always get it right. Only once were we unhappy. It was when they forgot to give us our 'Hotcakes' and they kept insisting that we never ordered them. We ended up leaving with free hotcakes after. Bob Evans is a great food place and I feel as though you should experience it yourself instead of reading reviews. If you do go, I recommend the Farmers Choice Breakfast. I will give it 3 stars b/c management(I guess) stepped up and solved the problem. I walked in to place a to-go order as I'm in a hotel and can not cook. Tired of fast food I figured I would give it a try. The to-go 'boy' took my order and I was very specific about the need for plasticware as again, I'm in a hotel. I knew I would forget if I didn't tell him right away. So, my food came and I went to my hotel across the street. Of course there was no plasticware in the bag so I called the restaurant and asked for the guy doing to-go's. He said he was sorry but what did I want him to do about it. I simply asked him how I was suppose to eat my meal without utensils. He went mute and again apologized then said "what else can I do for you". I asked him again and he put me on hold. A lady answered and quickly offered to make another meal and personally bring it to my hotel. All in all, it's the simple tasks that get overlooked yet make huge impressions.
