Perfectly dressed breaded pork tenderloin sandwich

Finally made it to Carlyle's for lunch. Oh my goodness; what a great spot to eat. When you hear them hand pounding flat iron steaks, tenderloins, and chicken tenders you know you're in the right place! Enjoyed their scrumptious hand breaded crunchy onion rings. The hubs had delicious fried cod dinner with a salad and bean soup. I had a hand pounded breaded pork tenderloin sandwich, fully dressed on a toasted bun. With crunchy fries on the side. Our server was professional, friendly, and attentive without being intrusive. They're a busy spot but don't rush their customers at all. It's clean and tidy, unobtrusive in a small strip mall. They're open M-F from 11am-3pm. They do lunch and do it perfectly!

    Fried Chicken Salad

Food descriptions may seem simple, but execution was top notch. Burger and fried chicken salad were awesome.

Tracy the owner is super sweet and came out to check on his customer's. Top Notch, way to run a restaurant. Today I took my 3 year old in, he had the grilled cheese kids meal and I had the protein plate. I have to admit, because I just came from working out-ordering the protein plate just hit the spot and kept me honest on my goals. I loved the fact that was a choice, on their menu. Overall clean, very personable staff and great atmosphere and food. Thumbs up! Hey just popped back in and wow great service and hometown feel, and reasonably priced.

Love the food, love the staff, since they cut their hours I don't get there as often as I did before. Can't beat the pie, or the meatloaf.

    G & R Tavern - Infamous Fried Bologna Sandwich

Home of the Famous Bologna Sandwich…read more That's the bold claim G & R Tavern has been making in Waldo, Ohio for more than 60 years, and judging by the line waiting outside when we arrived shortly after noon, plenty of people believe it. Located in a village of about 300 residents, G & R Tavern has become one of Ohio's most popular destination restaurants. Visitors come from all over the state to try the sandwich that put this small-town tavern on the map. Founded in 1962 by George Yake and Roy Klingel, G & R Tavern has become a true Ohio institution. In 1985, Rick's family purchased the restaurant and has continued the tradition ever since. During our visit, I had the opportunity to speak with Rick and learn that the next generation is already preparing to carry on the family tradition. In a time when many independent restaurants struggle to survive from one generation to the next, that's something worth celebrating. The atmosphere is exactly what longtime fans have come to love. Wood-paneled walls, a bustling dining room, homemade pies in the dessert case, and an old-school charm that feels increasingly rare today. Even the cash-only policy somehow feels right at home here. As for the famous sandwich, it continues to live up to its reputation. This Ohio classic features a thick-cut slice of fried bologna topped with melted American cheese, sweet pickles, and onion on a soft bun. It's simple, flavorful, and easy to understand why people continue making the trip to Waldo year after year. Perhaps the strongest endorsement came from my wife, who ordered the fried bologna sandwich as well. That's not something she would normally choose, but she thoroughly enjoyed it. The fries were hot and crispy and made a great companion to the meal. Some places become popular for a season. Places like G & R Tavern become part of Ohio's history. Salad was fresh with perfectly cooked chicken that was tasty. My wife had the pork carnitas bowl, which was a healthy portion and delicious according to my wife. Two Rivers has been open two years, which is amazing as we weren't even aware of it. According to our waitress, they hear that a lot. They do take reservations, but it really wasn't needed. A mix of high tops, tables and a nice bar. Bright airy interior and a covered exterior patio.

Everyone from the hostess to our server was very friendly and nice. They have a full bar and a decent selection of beers. My wife and I decided to share their whipped ricotta appetizer and their French onion burger. The appetizer came with thinly cut crusted baguette. The ricotta cheese was mixed with some strawberry flavor. It wasn't bad but I would have preferred it to be thicker in constituency. The burger and fries came out perfectly cut into half portions for each of us, which was a really nice touch. We had asked for the burger to be cooked medium rare and I think it came out more like a medium well. The patty itself was a bit dry. This may be a one off issue and we hope to return to try some other dishes.

I ordered the Manhattan and husband ordered a bourbon neat; the Manhattan was classically tasty, but the bourbon was a very small pour (though the prices are very reasonable). Kiddo had the lavender lemonade which was tasty. Husband and I both ordered the chicken fingers, he with the pimento Mac and cheese, and I ordered the jalapeño cornbread. Kiddo had eaten already but we ordered her the biscuits. The chicken was fantastic- seasoned well and not overcooked. It was served with tasty vinegary greens (wish I had more!) and thin-sliced watermelon. The Mac and cheese was good but light on the pimento; we enjoyed the Old Bay seasoned Ritz cracker crumble. The jalapeño cornbread was lacking heat but tasted good. I tried the biscuits and could eat the orange marmalade-ish jelly forever, though our kid didn't care for it. We came back the following week and this time tried the catfish and grits. The catfish was seasoned perfectly and very good; the grits were average, needing more seasoning and some cheese. It was busier this time but still great service. I enjoyed a Negroni and husband had a whiskey (better pour this time). Overall we've been impressed by the menu, service, and price. We'll be back and Hope this business can keep it up to offer some local variety in Marysville.
