I called an order in on Sunday afternoon; I ordered a Reuben minus the thousand island dressing, Chicken Gyro, Lamb Gyro, 2 Side Salads, a Cheeseburger, 2 orders of fresh cut Curly Fries with extra vinegar for each, and 2 Side Salads for late lunch and dinner for two. The cost was 55.00, and I was told it would be 30 minutes. The woman who answered my call sounded very stressed; irritated about something or another and was not particularly pleasant to speak to on the phone. I could tell they were very busy as she was interrupted several times while on the phone with me, and there was problems with the computer she was using as well. My mother picked up our meals and when she arrived home I was disappointed. The fries they gave us were all straight cut fries instead of the curly fries I ordered and they were completely soggy and lukewarm, and there was absolutely no vinegar either on the fries or in a cup. I ate the Lamb Gyro but it was nothing like an authentic greek gyro (go to Little Athens instead). The gyro fell apart completely as soon as I picked it up, all of the stuff inside started falling everywhere. The sauce was very thin and flavorless, and it was on the bottom (probably most of the cause of it completely falling apart). There was barely any tomato, the lamb meat was very bland, and the onion very thin sliced and sparce. No comparison to greek authenticity, was actually worse than "fair gyros". Now I have to go get a proper bottle of vinegar for the fries for dinner time, and I'm worried that the remaining food for our dinner will be of similar quality. The ONLY good note worthy of a single star was the Reuben. I've ordered that sandwhich from the Wistle Stop several times years back and there is no doubt it was made properly. Realistically, I do not see myself ordering from them ever again. Sorry guys for the bad review, but it is an honest review. Update: I ordered the cheeseburger done "medium". When I went to try eating it, the first thing I noticed was that it had no lettuce, tomato, onion or pickles. The bottom bun was completely saturated with grease. Also, the burger itself was not made medium, but rather medium well. In addition, the chicken gyro was identical in poor quality, falling apart just like the lamb one. Waited 30 minutes for under cooked scrambled eggs, cold French toast and half raw bacon. waitress was rude, knew the food was undercooked, on delivery to the table asked us if we wanted our bacon cooked longer. The coffee was good. Sent the food back, paid for the coffee and left. side note, while waiting for our food, both cooks came out of 5e kitchen and dwelled by the soda machine in turn and chatted up the wait staff. They have a Greek omelette that's what I get usually . Very good breakfast fare. Mostly busy so you may need to wait some, but it's worth it. Waitresses are great and animated. We just watched Fried Green Tomatoes so it was fun! read more

The Reuben was delicious and very hearty with house made corned beef . And the fresh cut fries were just right and a large portion of them. He had the country fried steak with homemade Mash potatoes, one of his favorites and said it was very good. Also a nice appetizer of fried green tomatoes. Stopped in with boyfriend and best friend for Sunday morning breakfast. Small restaurant with great old fashioned service and atmosphere. Staff were very nice and helpful. Started off with cup of decaf. Thought I would give the grits a try and hash browns with mushrooms & onions. The hash browns were a nice size portion. Mushrooms & onions were added to the top instead of cooked together with potatoes. The grits were instant and were very thick and bland. I enjoyed the time there and the waitress was great. May have other things that may be better and will have to try them next time. My suggestions: make homemade grits, fresh mushrooms, real butter for those who do not like margarine, and refill drinks more often. read more

Ok, so I heard all about this place from the locals. Had to try it. Wasn't impressed at first. Neat little interior, but boxes everywhere. Looked like they were unpacking still. Then I got a menu and was thoroughly unimpressed. Coffee was also subpar, but not terrible. Service is 5 star. If you can get to the bottom of your coffee you're a better man than me! Friendly and I don't think my coffee or water ever got half empty. I got the Homemade Hash. I'm a big corned beef fan, and this dish was perfect! Carmelized onions, crispy shredded potatoes, and the most delightful mix of shredded corned beef and good sized chunks of it. Very well done. Two over medium eggs, to let the yolks run over the hash, scooped up by sourdough toast and I was extremely happy! Had to look at my bill twice because I thought they forgot something. Almost too cheap! (Almost) I suspect previous reviews are correct. Come here for their specials. Nothing else really looked that great. read more

I have only been here 2 times for dine in and one time as a carry out. The food is good, lighting is dim, enough space between tables to feel like you're not eating with perfect strangers. Service wasn't terrible on any occasion but have had better elsewhere. The time that I ordered to-go, no flatware was offered or given, no salt or pepper, not even a napkin. Kind of disappointing. Luckily for me, I was going home, I have that stuff there but as a 3rd shift worker, I was just trying to avoid any type of dishes to wash, have my meal and go to bed. If I were someone staying at a hotel or on my way to work, I would have been pretty upset not having the very basic utensils to eat the breakfast that I spent over $12 on...with tip. The bad: I always feel like I'm fleeced at the checkout. My last trip there was for breakfast, party of 3 with tip walked out spending nearly $50. You're talking eggs, bacon, toast, kid menu pancakes, oatmeal, 2 cups of coffee and a juice. The coffee isn't even worth drinking. On my last trip, we parked out back. The first thing you notice is this huge dumpster. Not behind a fence or anything. About 10-15 feet from that dumpster is their patio area. I don't know if that's for customers or just a smoking area for their employees. But either way, no one, not even employees that smoke should have their view, on their break, be a dumpster. Or have to endure the smell that comes from one in the summer. Speaking of smells, there's some sewage problem that place has. Walking from the back to the front, you can really smell it. Thankfully, it's not something you can smell at the booths towards the front of the building. But I cannot imagine that you cannot smell it at the tables in the back. Also, on my last trip, I did watch as they were "cleaning up" behind the bar area. Combining a bottle of something maybe ketchup? To another bottle. Which that's absolutely a big no-no for "safe-serve". This last experience of mine, will be the last time I go. read more

This is my go to for a hot home cooked breakfast. The omelets are huge. Service is usually above par. My only dislike is the grits. They are instant and had a cardboard taste/scent to them and are very thick. I have enjoyed their blueberry pancakes and hash browns. And why will it take a while? We've already been sitting here for an hour, you can throw a few grits into a bowl for me? Poor customer service. Actually, AWFUL customer service. Came about 9:30 on a Saturday morning for breakfast. Waited 15 minutes to be seated (no big deal - expected to wait). Server got to us quickly to bring us water, coffee and took our order. One hour and 3 minutes later, we got our food. And it was average. The slice of cheese on our omelette was not even melted. Not the server's fault - but a warning about the kitchen being slow would have been nice. I would have been just as happy at McDonalds - and that is the truth. I have been to Whistle Stop a few times since it opened a few years ago. I have never been blown away by regular menu items, but have enjoyed a couple of the specials. My wife checks their Facebook page each week and advises me of the specials. Anytime beef and noodles comes up I do it - pretty solid dish. The homemade mashed potatoes are really good as well. Service and price point are typically pretty decent, but I am not a fan of the interior - it has a strange smell I can't put my finger on. The pizza place that was here before had the same smell. Décor is about what you would expect from a small town diner. The Whistle Stop isn't bad, but it won't blow you away either. A decent option if you aren't expecting too much. read more

My wife and I live in Crestline and on our way home Sunday we figured we try the Whistle Stop. We read reviews about the beef and noodles but that doesn't seem to be regular menu item probably a menu special. We ordered the Fried Chicken special. I hate to say the Fried Chicken wasn't all that great. It seems as if it was fried earlier in the day and sat on a heating rack or in the oven by the time we got there. Admittedly it was close to closing time so that's what we're assuming happened. It was just over done. The breading on a chicken with soggy then I guess that was a good thing because it's probably the worst part of a fried chicken. So we picked the skin off and just had the chicken which was overcooked. But the service was good, and besides, the stuffing and mashed potatoes were homemade and were really good so based on that we would go back. read more

What a shame. This place was recently opened in the wake of a far superior diner's (Millie's Diner) unexpected closing. Currently located in what was Toot's Pizza, and under new ownership, it is quite CLEAR that the management/owners/kitchen staff are hostile and combative. There is a lot of screaming and shouting ~ cooks are way past their primes and 'old school', and not able to keep up with orders and the food SUFFERS. Other staff personnel are treated with resonant contempt ~ Frequent verbal abuse from the new managers/owners has already driven a few employees to walk out, and it was/is very obvious that the new owners have no clue as to how to run a restaurant. read more

This "restaurant" (if you can call it that) doesn't even deserve a one star rating. I was there early afternoon on 08-06-15 and ordered breakfast (bacon, eggs, toast, hashbrowns--nothing too complicated) and after at least a half hour wait, I asked for my order "to go" as I had to go back to work. So much for a hot or even warm meal. Cold eggs are not very good and the toast was so hard that if I would have hit someone in the head with it, they would have been knocked out. The bacon was so hard, I could barely chew it. Oh, I forgot to mention that I also had a 1/2 order of biscuits and gravy. I asked that it be put in a separate container so they scraped the biscuits and gravy into another container but the hashbrowns and eggs were still sitting in gravy. I was extremely disappointed in this dining experience not to mention that I am still hungry. I would not recommend this place to anyone including my worst enemies. Breakfast at McDonald's or Burger King is infinitely better than what I had today. read more

A friend and I found this place when we got lost on our way to Wooster last year. We liked it so much we're going out of our way (on purpose this time) to eat there again. My friend follows a gluten-free diet so she ordered her burger without the bun, but they still made it look fancy by arranging it on a bed of lettuce leaves and drizzling the sauce over the top.
