This place is a small mom and pop shop. Been around forever and is a go to place for locals. The food was amazing, I got one of the omelets and it was delicious! My wife and I wanted to go out for breakfast today, so we hit Ted & Ali's. We ate here a few years ago and really liked this place, so figured we would come again today... Service was quick and friendly. My wife got biscuit and gravy with bacon. Biscuits are homemade, gravy from Sam's Club (but was good) I got bacon, eggs and waffle. Bacon was a bit salty for both of us. Eggs were ok, but the waffle was not tasty and was heavy and dense. Like made from cheap pancake mix. Reminded me of Aunt Jem-- er-- Pearl Milling. Good food at reasonable prices. Service needs improvement. First, there are a great number of workers but almost all are permitted to only refill coffee and pickup plates leaving long lines to order food. Many of the younger workers seem more interested in looking at phones and gossipping than taking care of customers. Black haired lady in charge only speaks w her friends and barely acknowledges ur presence when taking orders if she doesnt already knows you. There is a cook in the back who is not only is really good cook but also provides the best costumer service when she comes up front. She will actually talk w you even if you are new. When we are in the area this is our breakfast lunch choice. Had a great burger and love the hand fries which are like jojo's. Coffee is good. Husband had the country fried steak with sausage gravy, real smashed potatoes and corn plus a dinner roll. He was a happy camper. The servers hustle and are very good, attentive, others in party enjoyed meatloaf, liver and onions, house salad is huge and not just lettuce. The chili was a little bland needed more seasoning and several of us have a sweet tooth but they offer no desserts. read more

Okay I'm gonna say I was skeptical about this little place because I read all the reviews and they were all 5 stars, and I thought to myself it has to be one of those locals only diners where everyone's just nice to eachother because they've known eachother for 20 years. God was I wrong. First off, kudos for serving dinner items to me at 9am, I came in expecting breakfast, and I'm not a big breakfast kind of person so I was instantly happy to know I could order anything. Prices werent outrageous at all as we skimmed the menu. I ordered a meat loaf meal that came with meatloaf, mashed potatoes, a buttered roll and a salad for only $6.50. The meat loaf was phenomenal. Perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and a hearty portion size. Same with the mashed potatoes, they werent instant fake potatoes, they were definitely home made, and there had to have been like 2 cups worth on my plate. Crazy generous for the price! My girlfriend had chicken noodle soup and potatoes and I tried a bite of hers and it tasted good. The atmosphere is cool, lot of older folks eating and drinking coffee, nobody was rude and staring. Waitress was nice and did a good job. The hours here kind of suck I just wish they stayed open later! This place would get a SIX star rating from me if possible if they were open 24/7. Cute little corner diner in Shelby, Ohio. Caters to the breakfast and lunch crowd, as the place closes at 2 pm. It seemed we were the only "outsiders" in the place as everyone knew one another from the cook to the customers. Small town USA. Ya gotta love it. Wife got the taco salad and it was very good. I got a double cheeseburger and you could tell from the shape and varying thickness of the burgers, that these did not come out a processed box, but that the cook had made the patties by hand. Finally a REAL burger. One of the other sons got the pulled pork and he deemed it quite good. The other son got a Reuben, and it was also very good. The french fries were hot and crisp. The place was clean and so were the bathrooms. If I were to make one suggestion, it would be to have the waitresses be a bit more attentive. I expect it was due to us being "outsiders", but one lady spent more time texting than anything else. The other two were busy carrying on a conversation amongst themselves. This sort of thing delayed us getting menus, and extended to delaying our food. What I mean is the food would sit at the cook's counter. You could see it there, but no one would pick it up and hand it to us. I even had to get my own mustard bottle after asking for some twice. Other than that very good. read more

Oh Yelpers, why have you forsaken me? Five stars? Come on. Expected so much and got so little. My wife and I were very excited to try this highly recommended restaurant this morning. The gravel parking lot was packed at 10:00 a.m. which we took to be a very good sign. The inside is about par for the course for a small town restaurant. All tables were filled, so we opted for the only available seating at the counter. Our waitress - a term I use loosely - arrives after a couple of minutes and asks for our drink order with coffee pot in hand. We both opt for water which seemed to put her off for some reason (I am sensitive to caffeine, give me a break). Shortly after our waitress returns with waters and takes our order. My wife opts for the shredded chicken and tater tots, and I choose the closed face roast beef with mashed potatoes and gravy. As we sit awaiting our meals we observe the chit chat going on between the large staff and locals / regulars in the restaurant. Understandably so, as the newbies / outsiders we were obviously not part of any of these conversations, but were also eyed suspiciously by both staff and patrons. After an uncomfortable 15 minute wait our food is dropped off without barely a word, or smile, from our waitress - she did not check on us again through the rest of the meal by the way. With the first bite we both realized that this experience is just continuing to get worse. My wife's shredded chicken looks very unappetizing and tastes exactly as it looks. I say that as a shredded chicken lover who had, up until today, never met a shredded chicken sandwich I didn't like. Strange flavor and lukewarm. I wanted so badly to take a photo of the sandwich, but realized that taking pictures in this establishment may not be wise. We had already attracted enough attention as I guess the locals had never witnessed an engineer and buyer out of their natural habitat. Her tater tots were not very good either with nuked pieces of other food items from the fryer making their way into her serving of tots. My closed face roast beef was about as lame as it gets: the roast beef was actually just a bunch of slices of cheap lunch meat on white bread with instant gravy. Extra points for serving real mashed potatoes, but they still weren't that great and seemed to be lacking milk and butter. The waitress stealthfully delivered our check without a word as I looked down at one point and realized it was there. No standard "How was your meal?" pleasantries. Interestingly, at check out the cashier did not say a word to us either. I was locked and loaded if the question was posed, but sadly there was no inquiry as to if we enjoyed our food and service. Total price was $11.97 which proved to be the only high point of this experience for us. I can see how Ted & Ali's Corner Cafe would be ok for some - most notably locals and maybe those who really like generic diner food. If you aren't a local don't expect the welcome wagon, and if you are a "self-professed foodie" you will definitely want to look elsewhere. read more

I love the old diner type places, they are few and far between now. Love the bacon, which is different than any I've had and I've had a lot of bacon. Great place to grab a bite to eat. To my surprise my wife ordered an Asian salad with shrimp and she loved it. I usually have sausage gravy, biscuits and eggs. My son loves the pancakes with a side of bacon. Had lunch here while in town for work and was excited that they have breakfast all day, and man was it good! I got 2 pancakes with bacon and sunny side up eggs. The bacon slices were big and thick cut, cooked to perfection and not greasy. Really great quality meat, one of my coworkers commented that it must be sourced from somewhere local because it was such high quality. What really stayed with me though was the pancakes - they had a hint of some kind of flavor in them that was really good and has me wondering how to replicate it at home. I don't know how to describe it other than delicious, but it definitely wasn't your basic pancake batter. Maybe it was the grill they cooked it on, I have no idea but I'm definitely coming back the next time I'm in town for work to solve the tasty pancake mystery. Yum! read more
