Came here since we had some free drinks to redeem from our tour at Mount Vernon Nazarene university. They had this location linked to the language pathology department. So we got to try three different drinks. Grayson was our server... He was super nice and helpful navigating us through the drink options. He even asked how our tour went at the university. The shop is super quaint & bustling w/ energetic students. Our chai tea latte was amazing. The mango lemonade was good & tart. I'm not a coffee drinker but the dirty chai tea was good. One of my favorite coffee shops in Mount Vernon! To begin, the inside has ample seating as well as multiple private meeting rooms you can rent if you need a private space to work. Now the drinks....by far some of the best I've had. I've been multiple times and have never been disappointed. The steamers are great, the fruit flavored drinks are unique and they can make them with zero sugar or artificial things which is awesome! The baristas are always super pleasant and willing to answer questions I have about what to order. Patient too when I get to the front of the line and find that I still don't know what I want! I was in town for work and needed some caffeine after a long day. I love when a coffee shop is open past lunch hours. I found parking right out front on the street and even walked through the small art gallery next door before entering. The space here is large and there were a few people who had set up to work while they enjoyed their coffee. The Rosemary ricotta scone was so expertly flavored. I loved it. I chose something festive to drink and went with the carmel apple cold brew add Almond milk. They also had a good selection of sugar free syrup options, which is always a plus for me. Happy Bean is a great addition to Mount Vernon. It's located in kind of a hidden area. That's what's the worst about it. If you can find it you'll be happy. The coffee is good and the prices are better than most places. It may be hard to find this at first. It's inside a building of MVNU. There's a sandwich board outside. It has the additives you might figure they don't have. There's almond and soy milk. It's about $3 for a regular coffee. There's also some light food too like pastries. I would get to Happy Bean if you're in town. It's better than many of the overpriced hipster cafes. The coffee still is good quality and it's cheap too. read more

I love Happy Bean!! To be honest, I didn't really drink much coffee until I started frequenting Happy Bean, because I didn't think I liked coffee. Turns out, I don't like bad coffee. Asking the owners, Nate and Cassie Johnson, lots of questions and trying their recommendations has turned me into a total coffee geek. Now I know all about the different beans they carry, preparation methods, and more, and I buy bags of beans from them to make at home in my French press! However, in the shop, I'll always have to go for a plain latte or a cappuccino, because I love their espresso. Speaking of espresso, they just switched to using espresso from Mission Coffee in Columbus, and it is maybe my favorite espresso I've ever tried. So go in, try the espresso (also try a pour-over of the Ethiopian, if they have it), and enjoy this little Mount Vernon gem! read more

Nice little coffee shop in the center of town. Decor is inviting. Service is enthusiastic and with a smile. Only one person working, so be patient. It's worth it! Beans are Mission Coffee out of Columbus and tea is from Stauf's, also out of Columbus. Love when shops keeps things local. It wasn't on the menu, but I ordered a London Fog. Yum! I have come to Happy Bean every time I visit Mt. Vernon. Consistently wonderful experiences here. Kind baristas, efficient service. The espresso always tastes solid. Such a wonderful local business to support. If you don't usually tip your baristas, please consider starting now. This is a really challenging time for everyone (particularly service industry workers, who are working long days in masks with extra safety protocols to worry about) and every bit counts. Please be kind. Once (a few months ago, before the pandemic) they even took my order at the door because I had my dog with me. Don't go in expecting this (I've since found other ways to keep my pup safe outside so I could order at the register); just sharing that experience because it was a truly memorable and kind thing for them to do. What can I say about this place except for wow! This is literally some of the best coffee I've ever had!!! I was just down the street at paragraphs bookstore and saw this walking back to my car and thought to myself that I really would enjoy a coffee, so I stopped in. Boy am I glad that I did! The coffee had a beautiful fresh flavor to it and was very flavorful in taste. If you're ever in the area and you want to coffee, do not go to a chainstore when this place is in existence!!! Very cute small college town coffee shop! The employees were nice, the seating was very comfortable and they had a nice variety of coffee shop merchandise to browse while waiting for your drinks. The bathrooms were clean, free pantyliners available in the women's restroom along with a shoe grip on the back of the door so you can exit without touching the door handle. The only reason the review isn't 5 stars is because they don't have a frozen/blended coffee option, but the iced coffees are quite delicious nonetheless. 2.5 stars. I love the way this place looks inside...very open and spacious with lots of seating and industrial decor. But after trying 4 different drinks here, I have to say it's just meh. My husband's caramel latte tasted like milk with a little bit of caramel sauce. Zero espresso flavor. My kids got mocha steamers that were pretty good, but my pour over and cold brew were average. VERY cute hipster coffee shop in downtown Mt Vernon! It is a little hard to find because from the street it is just one of the Nazarene University buildings. The coffee shop is super cute and cozy inside and offers a great variety of coffee and teas. I personally loved the hand written modern calligraphy menus. They also offer pour over coffee which is very popular. I tried the chai tea and it was delicious. I would highly recommend this coffee shop if you are in the Mt. Vernon, Ohio area.
