Walked in and instantly thought, "This is a coffee shop that secretly moonlights as a breakfast joint." The place was buzzing -- vaulted ceilings plus a full house of caffeine-fueled chatter meant I got surround sound with my omelette. The sausage and cheese omelette was solid. The hashbrowns? Let's just say they were more "supporting actor" than "star of the show." And the toast... well, it came out as a slice. Singular. Like they were rationing carbs for the apocalypse. The coffee was great, though -- it's basically DIY, but I'll take any place that trusts me enough to handle the pot. We have been going here for nearly two years. Service has never been great, but today was so awful we will never return. We ordered, took a seat and saw that there was a huge line behind us and the restaurant was already pretty full, we took the last table. We waited patiently, for 50 minutes when we realized people we watched in line significantly after we had taken a seat get their food. We went up to the counter and mentioned it. They said they'd look. No update. 55 minutes, we ask again. No update. At 60 minutes we requested a refund, which they provided without apologizing. We were polite the whole time. They didn't care. Didn't offer a gift card, didn't try to recover the service at all. It was terrible. So, go here if you want to be wait for hour, leave hungry, and be treated like you don't matter. read more

If you're looking for good coffee and a sandwich in Mount Vernon this is the place! Note that this is a "order at the counter" restaurant, so you will wait in line and it does take time to get your order. Everything is fresh made and they are often very busy, so you have to go in with patience! But the food/drink is great and the workers are friendly. My favorite is the Main Street Mocha and Cran Turkey Wrap. Yum! The only negative I can give (hence reduction of 1 star) is that they close FAR too early on a Saturday (12:30pm) and are not open on Sunday. I cannot tell you how many times we've forgotten they close early and have arrived at 12:45pm on a Saturday and there are other people also standing outside wondering why they are closed for lunch. Hands down worth a visit. Coming up from Orlando for work, looking for a good place for brunch. Absolutely scrummy. Very clean inside and in a lovely part of this small town. The food is very fresh and presumably handmade. A friend and I enjoyed the CBR and quiche which were both fantastic. This is such a lovely cafe! My husband and I stopped here for lunch on our way home from staying at a place nearby. The cafe is nicely decorated and easy to navigate. We shared the reuben and a cup of the shrimp and corn chowder. We very much enjoyed the sandwich and the chowder! The homemade dressing on the reuben was amazing!!! This was my second time at North Main Cafe. I got the CBR wrap both times. I would say my first time was a better food experience. On my second visit I did come close to closing time. I felt like the wrap wasnt as good and the chips were from the bottom of the bag (mostly crumbs) however, it was still a good wrap and the flavor was delicious. For $8 you get a nice size wrap with hot chicken, chips and a pickle. The interior is cute and if it's warm they have seating outside. Overall, great local find! read more

Small town living. You gotta love it. Mt. Vernon tends to get overlooked but it shouldn't, some serious stuff going on in this up and coming town. One of the latest additions is North Main Cafe. When I walked in I smiled. Well done. They renovated the building and kept a very casual but trendy look while making it feel homey and warm with a touch of industrial. I like. The menu is on the wall posted on chalkboard in a fun script. Hard to read but cute. Grab a printed menu while you wait. The menu isn't huge but it has interesting items and man oh man, they did not disappoint. I got a large BBQ chicken salad. No kidding, it came in a cool black bowl the size of half a bucket. I took half of it home. The dressing was homemade and creamy and the salad had fresh and plentiful toppings....except the chicken. Not a lot of chicken at all. I got an iced chai latte that was heavenly. They made an error with my milk choice and I got no less then 3 separate apologies and an offer for a refund. Customer service is NOT dead! Woot. My friend got the chicken sandwich. Served on a beautiful bun the chicken breast was perfectly cooked and the portion huge. We finished with a piece of Hoho cake. Holy Willy Wonka. The size of a hand spread open and probably one of the best comfort desserts I've put in my mouth in a long time. It's the specialty of one of the owners, who makes it herself. Amazing. I want more. I want sleep on a pillow of Hoho cake. I am excited to go back...for a small town cafe, this place has come out of the gate strong. Two small things: The chairs are not made for anyone who is slightly ample. My friend had comfort issues. Not a place to hang out if you got junk in the trunk. They have plenty of parking but it's consistently packed, with a line at the register. My advice? Offer a register for food and beverage and a register for coffee only. If the coffee line is non existent, that cashier can pick up food line slack or go do something else near by. But- if I want coffee (it is a cafe after all) I would think twice about stopping in to grab a cup due to the lines. I will most definitely be back...I think breakfast will be my next adventure at this small town gem. UPDATE: I'd like to think it's because of this review...but who knows. Who cares? This place has just opened and it's a great addition to our city. There is indoor and outdoor seating. You order at the counter, they give you a number for your table, and food is delivered to you. As I walked past the outdoor seating I noticed a delicious looking breakfast omelet. But, alas, I was too late for breakfast- it's over at 10:30am. Next time I'll be there for breakfast. I ordered the BBQ Chicken Salad and a Vanilla Bean Frappe (I don't do coffee). Both were delivered to my table quickly. The salad was a good size, I ordered the smaller size, with a nice amount of toppings. The dressing was thick and tasty. The Vanilla Bean Frappe was delicious - thick and flavorful. Wow. What a cute & delightful place. Went on a Wednesday for lunch, and returned on Saturday for breakfast because we were so impressed. For lunch, we enjoyed the Hamlini, a turkey cranberry wrap and lattes. The waffles for breakfast were fantastic; hint of a sourdough flavor with fresh fruit. The buckeye mocha was amazing, as was the chai latte. But let me tell you what impressed us most - the friendly service and the cleanest restaurant bathroom I've ever seen in my life. We sat on your deck outside waiting for our food for quite some time before going inside because it was too cokd. Shortly after going inside my husband went up to ask about additional wait time. I would say that may have been 3 minutes after we came inside to continue our wait.
