While you can seat yourself and they will come and take your order, we went to the counter as it was our first time in and placed ours. My wife went with a BLT that came with chips and I ordered an everything omelette with wheat toast. Our orders came out in good time. My wife said her BLT was very good. My omelette was by my standards quite small, it appeared to have been made in some type of electric omelette machine. With it was one slice of wheat toast instead of the normal 2 slices. While my meal was tasty, it frankly left me wanting more, something I would rather not feel for a $27 lunch. While we enjoyed our stop, we will probably go to a restaurant with normal size servings in the future.

She mentioned their hamburgers were the best. I ordered the grilled cheese and ham, my brother got the hamburger. When our meals came out they looked like things you could easily make at home BUT....they were DELICIOUS! The sandwiches were really good and came with a side a crinkle fries. They have an ice cream parlor too. Sadly they were waiting on the truck shipment the day we were there and only had chocolate and strawberry available, how very boring. It is alright I didn't really need the ice cream. The place is small but the socially distanced tables were almost all full except for one when we walked in. A super cute little diner in Morrow County with yummy food.

On my continuing drive-about breakfast adventures, I stumbled into Edison Depot -- part restaurant,…read morepart coffee shop, part ice cream parlor, and 100% small-town charm. First impression? The place was incredibly clean -- the kind of clean where you almost hesitate to set down your coffee mug because you don't want to mess up the shine. Inside, the locals were holding court: talking crops, local happenings, and laughing like this was their morning news network. It felt less like eavesdropping and more like I'd been drafted into the Edison Breakfast Club. I went with the Country Fried Steak and scrambled eggs (the waitress must've sensed I needed backup protein). The food was solid, classic diner fare -- hearty enough to fuel a day of farming, driving, or just another round of local gossip. The real MVP? The service. My waitress treated coffee refills like an Olympic relay -- the bottom of my cup never once saw daylight. For the tribe, I ordered a breakfast bowl, a half order of biscuits and gravy, some bacon, and even oatmeal to keep things balanced. The portions were generous, and it all packed up neatly for the road. Pro Tip: Don't just come hungry, come curious. Sit back, sip your coffee, and you'll leave knowing more about Edison crops than you ever planned. Verdict: Edison Depot is the kind of place where breakfast isn't just a meal -- it's a community event with eggs, gravy, and unlimited coffee on the side.

The savory kolaches were *IT*. Both the Pepperoni and the Smoked Sausage/Jalapeño/Cheese were 5 star in equal parts to the fillings and the soft dough that surrounded them. The two sweet kolaches (strawberry and cream cheese) featured the same dough, but the fillings weren't as ample or satisfying as the savory ones. Still 4 stars. Breaking the tie was how absolutely kind and engaging the owner is. He checked in with us after we dined in their upstairs space. He gave us a little insight into his process and shared the tip to call in or order online to see what's available that day. Doing so would also help you avoid a particular kolache selling out if you really had your eye on one.

"Fried Bologna, World Affairs, and One Legendary Brad"…read more Longer review but wanted to share. Traveling through central Ohio, I decided to detour for something unique--and landed at Homestead Family Restaurant in Fredericktown. I walked in around 7:30 AM and immediately spotted a table of 8-10 older gentlemen who looked like they were actively solving the world's problems. (Global warming? Inflation? Or just the eternal question of whether the Buckeyes will ever win big--hard to say.) The place oozes classic small-town America charm. I parked myself at the big U-shaped counter, and before I could even think about coffee, a hot cup appeared in front of me. Service here is fast, friendly, and so welcoming it feels like they've known you for years--even if you just rolled in off the road. The menu had those retro comfort food gems you rarely see anymore. And there it was: Fried Bologna Omelet. Pennsylvania has scrapple. Hawaii has Spam. Southern Ohio has Goetta. Central Ohio? Central Ohio proudly waves the fried bologna flag. I ordered the Bologna Omelet with fried potatoes, plus a biscuit with sausage gravy (because if you say no to sausage gravy here, you'll probably get escorted out). The food was very good. Potatoes could've used a little more time in the pan (maybe par-boiling first), but hey--still plenty tasty. For the "tribe," I grabbed: Breakfast Bowl (potatoes, eggs, American cheese, topped with sausage gravy--basically edible joy). Sausage Biscuits and Gravy (aka, double-down on gravy, because life is short). Everything hit the spot. The place is neat, the food hearty, and the service top-notch. But here's what really made the stop unforgettable: Brad. Brad is a local legend and was celebrating his birthday that morning. He sat next to me, gave me the lowdown on the town, and greeted everyone like the unofficial mayor of Fredericktown. The entire restaurant seemed to be there for him. Brad is a kind, gentle soul--the kind of person who makes you think, "You know what? This world really does need more Brads." Final Thought: Homestead Family Restaurant isn't just about good food (though the fried bologna omelet and sausage biscuit & gravy are worth the trip). It's about community, character, and the people who make small towns special. If you're in the area, stop by. Even if you're not hungry, you might meet Brad--and trust me, that's better than dessert.
