Holy Bologna! A Waldo Wonder at G & R Tavern" Let me tell you about the day I took a bite out of fame -- fried bologna fame, that is. Nestled in the tiny town of Waldo, Ohio (yes, it is real, and no, we did not lose him), sits a local legend: G & R Tavern. If you have never heard of it, allow me to enlighten you -- and if you have, then you already know what kind of glorious, greasy magic I am talking about. Now, I came for one reason: the iconic fried bologna sandwich. This is not your sad, thin, floppy lunchroom bologna -- no sir. This is a thick-cut slab of love, griddled to golden perfection, with just enough char to let you know it means business. Slapped onto a soft bun with cheese and pickles, it is a blue-collar burger's funky cousin -- and I was here for it. On the side? Beer-battered onion rings that crunched like a symphony and made me seriously consider writing them a love letter. They were crispy, golden, and dangerously addictive -- I could have eaten a basket the size of Waldo. My wife, being a bologna skeptic (bless her heart), played it safe with a burger and fries. And I gotta say, for a place known for its bologna, the burger held its own. Juicy, well-seasoned, and stacked just right. The fries were hot, crispy, and ready to be stolen off her plate -- which, yes, I did. Now, let us talk about the decor -- because walking into G & R is like stepping into your great-aunt's basement rec room circa 1973. Think of wood paneling, lace curtains, neon beer signs, and maybe a deer head or two wondering how it all came to this. It is cozy, kitschy, and charming in that "we're not trying to impress you, we're just being ourselves" kind of way. And honestly? I loved it. But fair warning to the modern folks: this place is proudly, unapologetically cash only. No credit cards, no Apple Pay, no crypto, no tapping your phone and hoping for the best. It is old-school -- like Bologna. So come prepared with those greenbacks, or you might be washing dishes in the back next to someone's Uncle Larry. In a world of Instagrammable cafes and overpriced avocado toast, G & R Tavern is a refreshingly humble, meat-loving time machine. Come hungry, bring cash, and leave with a belly full of bologna and a heart full of small-town Ohio charm. Until next time... I am Brian, remember to Take the Trip -- your Next Adventure is waiting.

Fried bologna and fresh onion rings.

Fun local tavern known for their fried bologna which is specifically made for them. I had the bologna salad sandwich this time which is very tasty. You can't beat the price at $3.50. Onion rings were fresh and good. Everything is reasonably priced just don't forget to bring cash to pay. Worth a stop if you're in the area. Service is very friendly. It is a small older building with a sports bar vibe. It can definitely fill up on game days so get there early.

Oh my goodness!! now I understand why 614 magazine and other publications have named GNR Tavern with having the best fried bologna sandwich. It was fantastic and huge. I was not expecting it to be so big. Our server was fantastic. He even joined in on the conversation and was joking with us, was perfect. The tavern itself is very eclectic. So much to look at. You can tell it's an old tavern with the wood floors. Very great experience here well worth the drive.

Visited G&R Tavern to taste their world famous bologna sammich. My coworker and I visited and quickly realized they only took cash. Well, I only had a credit card, so my coworker was going to have to cover for me. For lunch, I requested a thick-cut bologna sammich (duh) and some onion rings with a Mountain Dew. My coworker requested the same sammich, but with fried mushrooms. Not long after, the food was delivered. My first bite of the bologna was magical. It had an excellent char on it that I found delicious. The flavor of the bologna was excellent! With cheese, onion, and mustard that I added, this was one of the best sandwiches I've had. Now, I have had a special place in my heart for bologna sammiches since my grandpa cooked them for us when we were kids. The onion rings were large and tasty. This place is worth a visit if you enjoy bologna. Our waitress was fast and very friendly.

I've heard about this places legendary bologna sandwiches for years. I tried it on a previous visit and it was juicy and delicious. This time I opted for a burger. The burger was good but the mushrooms stole the show. Very comfy small town vibe inside. The staff was very kind and welcoming! The crème pies are next on my list to try.

They should rename this place "Cheat Day," because you're not getting out of there without something fried, sweet and/or alcoholic. And it's SO worth it. The legendary bologna sandwich is legendary for a reason. That thick cut slab is enough to send you home happy by itself, but adding cheese and onions will make you happier. The burger is better than anything you would get at another grease pit or any fast food joint. And the combination of the burger and bologna - named the Country Boy - was the best choice of them all for me. G&R also has a unexpectedly large selection of pies. My wife and I shared an apple and a butterscotch cream pie. Even though they're more expensive, the cream pies' richness and density justify their cost. G&R is a tavern at the end of the day, so you'll find a few TVs and cheap beer to your heart's content.

WHERE''s WALDO? Well, G & R Tavern is in Waldo, Ohio! Stopped by for a quick lunch. Food was great! Fried bologna sandwich with cheese was excellent! Pork tenderloin sandwich and fried mushrooms were very tasty! The service was fantastic and all of their employees were very nice even though they were very busy! The restaurant was very clean! I will definitely return to try other items on their menu' Thank you G & R Tavern for preserving the food history of the fried bologna sandwich!!

Where's Waldo??? The drive to Waldo is worth it to eat at the G & R Tavern. They claim to be the home of the famous bologna sandwich - which I did not think there was such a thing as a famous bologna sandwich. There is, and it is definitely at the G & R Tavern. This place is not an impressive building but it is really cool inside because it is filled with nostalgia that covers the last 60 years or so. The restaurant is clean and I loved the vibe. The staff was incredible - they operated like a team and we got great service. The food came out quickly - I really wish more restaurants could pull off great service and getting the food out that fast. I had the famous bologna sandwich, fried mushrooms, and fried cauliflower which was delicious (I was totally, impressed with the famous bologna sandwich). Wifie had their Cobb salad with chicken which she enjoyed. I normally don't eat dessert but the Cherry pie was calling my name and WOW a slice of warm cherry pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Yes, 5 stars. It is not fancy, but it did not disappoint. The G & R Tavern fires on all cylinders--it is worth a visit. We will be stopping back to explore more of their menu.

Stopped for lunch on a Saturday and it did not disappoint. We both got the bologna sandwich with cheese and onion (hold the lettuce and sweet pickle relish because eww). I got onion rings and he got the jalapeño poppers. Both were also good. Would definitely recommend. Forgot to take pics of the food so you're just going to have to take my word for it.

Whenever I tire of driving I-75 south thru Ohio, I jump over to US-23 ... and G&R is a great lunch stop. The bologna in their fried bologna sandwich is not Oscar Meyer - it is MUCH better. Better taste. Better texture. Great onion rings too. And cream pies are available again - love the peanut butter pie.

Decided to stop in while passing by. Located on the corner of a charming small town, step inside and seat yourself. It's a step back in time with vintage decor, dimly lit, like your hometown bar. Menu is pretty simple and pretty cheap! Service is great, fast and welcoming. The sandwich comes with a thick slice of bologna, onion, pickles, and cheese. Onion rings are tasty, thick cut and large in size. Lastly the pie. You cannot leave without a slice of pie. I had the chocolate cream. Huge slice, rich and creamy and a perfectly crisp crust. You must try a piece!

Did take out on our way to Perrysburg, Ohio. We ordered two fried bologna sandwiches and combo pizza. Everything was delicious!! The fried bologna had pickles and onions! The pizza was fantastic and filled with mushrooms, yellow peppers, sausage, pepperoni and cut into small squares. Hubby enjoyed his slice of peach pie.

Yummmmmyyyyyyyyyy!!!…read more Nice little Greek diner with very nice staff and great food!!! Stopped here after a morning of thrifting at a family recommendation and was pleasantly surprised! It's decently cute on the inside, nothing oober fancy but nice like a chipotle style or similar. Staff were super nice and friendly, described the different types of fries and food is made pretty quick!!! Ordered to go but food came out on plates, not a biggie, who seemed to maybe be the owner was very apologetic and gave me an extra garlic sauce! Seems like staff work together very cohesively bc several of them started transitioning the food into to go containers. Portions are big!!! We ordered a gyro, a gyro salad and two side of fries for $33! Decent prices as well! I lovvvvve the garlic sauce, one of the best I've had. The salad had lotssss of gyro meat and lots of diff veggies which I loved!!! I loved the cold case of all the home made looking treats!! I will have to try some of these next time! They look very well made and love that they are made internally!!! Super flavorful and great healthy option!!! Would def go here again and recommend!!!

The menu is bright and tells you exactly what to do, you can build your own bowl, pita wrap, or salad. They also have sandwiches and sides. I went with a build your own bowl. Couscous was my base with chicken shawarma. I added traditional hummus, spicy hummus, a variety of veggies, for sauce grandmas hot sauce and a side of tzatziki and Moroccan hot sauce. We also had a side of sweet potato fries. Starting with the sweet potato fries, those bad boys didn't even make it home. They were deliciously seasoned and so crispy, legit the best sweet potato fries I've ever had. My bowl was a 10/10 everything had so much flavor and the perfect amount of spiciness. If you're not a huge fan of spicy definitely stay away from the hot sauces because they have some heat. The portions were huge, neither of us finished our bowls. Hummus republic is a great addition to the Delaware area. I'll definitely be back.

Since there were a number of couples waiting for the full service side we opted for the former. We ordered and paid at the counter. I ordered the grilled chicken breast with a sweet potato and steamed broccoli while my husband ordered the grilled salmon with sweet potato and opted for a caesar salad in lieu of a second side. The grilled chicken breast was moist and well seasoned but it essentially was naked. It could have used a nice sauce like a bearnaise or some kind of salsa (maybe chutney) to jazz it up. The sweet potato was embarrassingly small. The broccoli was crisp tender but again was bereft of any sauce or just melted butter to make it yummy. My husband's entree was tasty but essentially was pretty bare. His salad was decent though. This restaurant must understand that the eye eats as well as the stomach because when the entrees arrived at our table the plates were rather underwhelming. We also ordered coffees and the gentlemen at the front said he would make a pot of fresh coffee. (He never did). The coffee we were served was old. Apparently, coffee isn't a big draw at this place. The best part was the gluten-free brownie and ice cream at the end. All in all, the place is nice and clean. The food is decent but there is room for improvement. Would we return since we are locals, I don't think so.
